I know a couple that was in a similar situation. From what I heard their relationship was fiine albeit challenging at times. Unfortunately she died in a car accident a few years later. The difference is they met here in the US and attended the same church. Personally I was not happy about the way they proceeded with their marriage but they were mature adults in their 40s and there were mutual friends and acquaintances who could vouch for his character. This caller is in a long distance relationship with someone she can barely communicate. The foundation of their relationship is shaky. He is also presently unemployed. Too many red flags. Maybe I have seen too many episodes of Dateline, but I fear that this may not end well for her.

A lot of people who graduated from shty medical schools in Granada who don't actually end up getting a residency (which is like a full 1/4 of medical school graduates) end up going to specialized nursing schools or go to work for pharmaceutical companies or both. Not the best situation but it's what a lot of people do because there are more medical school graduates then there are residencies.
16:34 I would change my identity. Is knowing the world I could be saddled with nearly a half $1 million in debt with a degree that doesn’t pay because I didn’t finish. That’s the worst scenario ever.
I didn't even realise that could happen. Is people ending up with no degree and loads of debt a common occurrence? Never did the whole college/university thing.
@monkey39128 common? No not particularly. The caller in question seems to have failed his medical boards which if my knowledge of that subject is correct, means he essentially finished law school then failed the bar exam twice. So he cant be a doctor since he failed the boards twice without going to medical school for a second time
As bad as it is. It means his student bill is footed by the taxpayer. No too bad since the Biden administration is spending out tax dollars like a drunken sailor. I guess 400,000 is nothing to another 400 billion.
Really like how respectful he was to the first woman, didn't accuse her "boyfriend" of anything, just raised the red flags for her to decide herself, perfectly done.
He point out as a father talking to his daughter, he understands that she like / love that man it is to enlight her to be aware of the looming danger ahead of her.
That's the Dave I love. I believe his advice regarding budgeting and debt management however the concerned Dave doesn't always come through. He was solidly Papa Dave with this first caller. Really loved that.
For the caller with the $430k in student loans: you most definitely can become a nurse with very little to no need for student loans. There are programs you may qualify to help you cover the cost of tuition and many courses from your biology degree will absolutely count toward your nursing degree. Then, I recommend you move to a relatively low cost of living area in Northern California, work for Kaiser, earn over $200k per year, and pay off your student loans in 2-3 years.
2 Year Associates Degree at a local community college can absolutely get you in the door as an RN as it's all you need for the RN cert. After that, you can work your way up to higher roles and supervisory roles that put you in 6 figures. All for the cost of under $12-15K and that's paying out of pocket either by loan or cash, with no grants, subsidies or scholarships. In some states, Associates degrees at a local state school is nearly free outside the few costs of fees and books.
He could also use his bachelors to go through a 12 month program and become a perfusionist. Average pay is 130k but the managers exceed 200k. The lower 10% still make over 90k. I inquired at the program in Houston and they said the bachelors can be in anything but medical related is a plus.
@@lizc2168 Personally I wouldn't recommend. The medical establishment and herbal/holistic medicine have been at odds with each other for well over a century. With the establishment nearly always coming out on top. In the U.S., you're far more likely to find a well paying job and have many more opportunities in traditional medicine than in the herbal/holistic field.
I dated someone who also had the same medical situation, 3 years in and didnt pass and very high debt. He went into a fast paced 1.5 year nursing program, did amazing, and is now a successful male nurse. Probably would be great to look into that for this young guy.
I’m in similar situation. Graduated from pharmacy school. Got my doctorate and delivered a baby months later. But I underestimated how much being a new mom with postpartum depression and ADHD would affect the ABSOLUTE focus you need to study for board exams. Also I don’t live near my family. Because of my education I was able to identify quickly that my daughter had autism (no believed me and thought I wasn’t disciplining her enough). After 2 failed tests and my daughter’s constant overstimulated tantrums I knew I had to solve 1 problem at a time. With research, trial/error, and TONS of patience my daughter is 4yrs old, doing great in school, can spell, read, do math, barely has tantrums and loves to help mommy. She still struggles with speech but I have to find a new dream that provides money to lift the financial burden from my husband and afford a speech therapist because Im not an expert lol. I wish I had a therapist because I’m scared to death that I’ll be a failure to disappoint my family again and i have soooo much anxiety built up from the past 4 years but I’m applying to everything. I can only fix one problem at a time.
I am from the Indian community. I know two women whose husbands left them after becoming permanent residents in the UK. Sad reality is they waited years for it. It happens a lot.
Regarding the first caller, I’m from the Dominican Republic and I can tell you that her “boyfriend” is desperate to leave the country and he sees her as his salvation 🤣🤣
I agree, shes gotta flip the script on him to find out. Guaranteed he's bragging to his buddies that he's so great some American idiot is going to bring him over.
First call is literally how my dad became a American citizen back in the 90s. Once he got what he wanted he left the women and got back with my mom. Terrible thing to do and never underestimate the desperation of those in poverty in a third world country.
The guy with 430,000 in student loan debt with a major in biology/science along with the full term of MD study even though he has not passed would be an excellent candidate for pharmaceutical rep
I feel like this guy is very demoralized from failing twice. I hope he realizes that his worth is not determined by whether or not he can pass the boards. Some people are not good at test taking. Some choose things that are out of their reach, but none of that determines your worth. I pray he has friends and family that can help him get his confidence back.
My grandfather was an insurance salesman. Took out a whole life policy on each child. His son died at 26 of liver cancer with a young wife and son. He was completely devastated to learn that the bill of goods he had sold everyone and bought into so much himself- that it was trash and there was nothing. Term life insurance is what he should have had and term actually serves the purpose of protecting a family from the lightening strike of an untimely death.
It makes no sense that a whole life policy would end up with nothing. It sounds like he bought junior policies on children then didn’t convert them at age 25 or so. I converted my son’s policy and added a term policy on top. You can’t get term insurance on children.
@@valley5617 Uhhh you can get term life insurance on children. From Progressive..... "While many parents choose a term policy for their child's life insurance, you might decide to get permanent life insurance (like a whole life policy) if you want to make sure your child and their future family have coverage into adulthood." From Aflac..... "Aflac juvenile life insurance offers both term and whole life options for children, with no medical exams required."

@slickster3211 dont forget that sometimes the stupid tax is paid by OTHERS. try getting into a wreck with an uninsured motorist or being related to a person who costs you money for their bad decisions. namely, knocking up a woman who refuses to get employed yet hits you up for child support. theres so so many ways OTHER folks stupidity becomes your problem. becareful who you become attached to. (by money, marriage, sharing a child, friends and so on) their problems can become yours. the stupid tax just by association.
Here's another way to put it: The reason why rich people are rich and poor people are poor is that rich people are smart and poor people are stupid. One way to get smart is to learn a skill that pays a living wage.

When we were young and dumb(er) we bought a modest whole life policy. Looking back at what the payments were I'd have been way ahead getting a term life policy and investing the difference. We've never cashed out the policy, but it's worth nothing compared to what that money put into a S&P 500 index or similar fund would have done. Ah well, a good life lesson.
James broke my heart....what a difficult position to be in. I often thought about whether or not I would pass boards when I was in the healthcare field....and knew folks who didn't. So tough. And as far as the NYC woman---take the tundra job!!! I moved to a rural underserved population to pay off my loans and then fell in love with it---stayed for a decade. Now I'm retired at 56 :)
Thank you for your service. I grew up in a rural area. My family physician took care of several generations of my family, before he retired. That surgeon's wife sounds like his first wife, who dumped him and moved on. I guess there was no place to show off her designer clothes or to socialize with people she thought were her caliber. I could elaborate, but I won't. Fortunately, after many years he remarried. Second wife was and still is a lovely, friendly, country girl. He has given so much to the community over the decades. I am so glad that they were surprised with raising a new family. The kids are also now grown. He is still active and provides care at free clinics.
Yeah that NYC woman kinda annoyed me simply for even questioning that decision. 3 years for nearly $3m between her and her partner. She’s wondering about having enough money to retire but doesn’t want to move to a nice quiet country town for a few years to end up better than many people ever have the chance to end up. Somewhat insulting
@@OnlyAchievingHere Just the simple fact that they are still together with financial strife and not being on the same page enough to take an obvious opportunity, over what? Comfort, inconvenience? We had one in the family and refused to buy his junk. Told him to his face it was junk (he wouldn’t sell term to family said he didn’t like anyone that little lol). After that he avoided me and any family functions at our place, which was fine with me.

Such a sad call. This lady needs to put everything on hold. Let’s see how long he can wait. I think Dave’s advice is perfect! Thank you for caring about her.
first caller i know Dave is right. 22 years old, language barrier, ,no job and wants to get married? and only met 4 times/9 months is not enough to marry someone. I say just date or call it quits.
I was dating a guy in Florida, we actually even lived together for 4 months. Chilean. After 3 months in I figured out he was illegal and even was deported before 😂 you can not trust anyone 😅 after we broke up I was getting calls from collectors about him owning a lot of money, luckily I was smart enough NOT to share any financial responsibilities with him 😂
The fact that either he felt the need to send pictures of him going to work, or she felt the need to ask him to send her pictures of him going to work, is a huge red flag. It’s the same as these scammers who send women pictures of their bank accounts to prove they’ve got that $5 million in the bank but they just can’t access it. Run honey run.
For that first call, im glad Dave saw right through that and went straight for the 18 red flags rather than answering her insignificant debt questions.
@@shellythompson3740 sounds like he’s waiting for the right idea to be suggested to him. I read someone suggested he go Military. The doctor's wife and Doctor should consider the tundra. They might be surprised by the peacefulness and the pure beauty of the place. Also, people around there will be super happy to have y'all there and welcome you with open arms. They need you there. You might find a super tight community there. These are all in the past, but food for thought if someone else is considering this. Obviously, I grew up the opposite way on the sticks raising and growing all of our own food. We were green before green was a term, as in we composted, and grew organic food, and all that stuff. I go back and forth between wanting to live very rural and living in the city. If I was married I would probably want to go rural, but the city is easier for me to meet people.

Three years goes by in a flash. You could also use the time to accomplish something else like working on your fitness, learning a new language, do some art, improve your education. To experience a new country/ culture is an enrichment and an adventure, so many new things to learn. If you are bored that is your own fault. Even if it is cold.
I know. Some people don't want to live below their means long enough to get rid of debt that is stressing them out anyway. She is so deep in the stress she doesn't see the opportunity as anything other than more discomfort and more work. Meanwhile, the debt is eating her hope for a free future alive.
The medical student who couldn’t pass boards should go to CRNA school. Find a hospital that will hire Associate Degree nurses, apply for hospital to pay for him to get RN Bachelor’s and then off to CRNA school. I bet a lot of his prior classes will be accepted.
And hospital systems will pay off his student loans-or a good chunk. Also, Rural Health Districts a huge need and have awesome opportunities: total tuition reimbursement (Nurse Practitioner or PA - 3 years for him)in exchange for a multi-year contract with the District.

That caller annoyed me. I understand loving where you are from and enjoying city life, but holy buckets... are you so stuck up about city living that you think spending a few years in a rural place is a prison sentence? My goodness. Rural areas are beautiful. And for that kind of money and what it will land you long term, it would be more than worth it. They may even discover they love it enough to want a vacation home there someday. I just wanted to scream, "Go touch some grass!" 🤦♀️
For the guy $430K in debt for medical school. He failed step exams, likely step 1. I’m an MD and managed to take on no debt by joining the Army. I’ve advised my own kids to NOT go to medical school. The cost is absolutely ridiculous and taking on that debt with all it takes to make it through is perilous. If the US wants the primary care doctors it needs, we’ll have to subsidize medical education.
1st caller, as the mother of a 22 yr old young man, living in the Caribbean, I know my son is not ready to be married yet. Still a boy at heart, still studying and still relatively reliant on us. No way can he take care of a wife or kids as yet because we would be the ones financing his marriage. Its too early for u all to be thinking marriage. Take ur time, dont rush it cause u may regret it.
My husband and I got married at age 20. He is Dominican. We've raised 4 kids together. Been together 14 years now. Age isn't a clear indicator of maturity. There are some men who are still immature at age 50, and others who are capable of getting married and raising a family by 15 years old (like several of my husband's cousins in DR and folks in the olden days).
I love that every life insurance salesman that tries to defend whole life always says "if the policy is written correctly" when confronted with an issue. Yeah that's the problem, no one writes them like your ideal case - including you!
Getting your cash value out of the policy should be the default condition of the policy. The fact that you have to write the policy to reflect that is a major clue that something is hinky.
@@ASimoneau What 99% of them are talking about with "writing it correctly" is setting it up so that in the latter part of your life, the cash value is used to purchase paid up additions which increase the death benefit, and to pay the premium. But of course, that's not really getting the cash value out - that's using the cash value to buy even more expensive insurance with a slightly higher face value (because you are older in that period).
@@funtechuI have no doubt that's true, but this specific broker flatly denied that he was referring to paid up additions when he talked about "writing it correctly."
I was once in an insurance company class to obtain an insurance agent license the instructor said something about life policy I asked him if I can give this information to the client he says NO if you do the client will not buy it so I asked so I need to lie to the client he said no you don’t lie you just don’t tell them everything. My response was saying Good Bye as I got up and left.
I have sincere and significant love and respect for Mr. Ramsey. I would bet banks, whole life insurance and time share companies do not share my opinion.

I appreciate Dave's concern and wisdom. Thank you for putting on your "Papa Dave" hat and giving this young girl some wise advice.
Hope She Listened!
My problem would be that I worried about that girl until she called me back.
That's the Dave I love. I believe his advice regarding budgeting and debt management however the concerned Dave doesn't always come through. He was solidly Papa Dave with this first caller. Really loved that.
Dave said what her real father wouldn't or couldn't because he's no longer around. Or maybe she doesn't listen to him.
I watch your channel, great advice! I hope he sees your comment!
South Dakota is paying for nursing degrees as long as you work for their hospital. A friend's daughter is moving in May.
"I did take my muddy boots and walk all through your house there" adding that to the vocabulary, brilliant ✨
I know... I absolutely loved that one!!!

Why did they cut off the doctor call? You get invested and then it switches to another call, not a well edited video
Because of my education I
was able to identify quickly that my daughter had autism (no believed me and thought I wasn’t disciplining her enough).

That’s a great idea. Are you gonna leave American and be a doctor somewhere else the next day?

"While many parents choose a term policy for their child's life insurance, you might decide to get permanent life insurance (like a whole life policy) if you want to make sure your child and their future family have coverage into adulthood."
From Aflac.....
"Aflac juvenile life insurance offers both term and whole life options for children, with no medical exams required."
@valley5617 you most definitely can. It's a rider. Which is cheap.

When we were young and dumb(er) we bought a modest whole life policy. Looking back at what the payments were I'd have been way ahead getting a term life policy and investing the difference.

Also, people around there will be super happy to have y'all there and welcome you with open arms. They need you there. You might find a super tight community there. Age isn't a clear indicator of maturity. There are some men who are still immature at age 50, and others who are capable of getting married and raising a family by 15 years old (like several of my husband's cousins in DR and folks in the olden days).
Ok let's call a spades of spades, first caller is being scammed. Period.
Dave should have asked her better questions. Where did they meet? Who pays for the plane tickets. Why isn’t he learning English?
Natalie from New York is a high maintenance woman. Just listening to her talk you can tell she’s not one to give up desires to accomplish a goal.
I was so glad to hear Papa Dave do a Papa Dave and tell it how it is.
Straight talking is the only way to go in the first case. Love the show
I love that every life insurance salesman that tries to defend whole life always says "if the policy is written correctly" when confronted with an issue.
Exactly , why wouldn’t it be written correctly
I love his ranting, it's an eye-opener
First caller: Run and don't look back.
papa dave makes good sound advice
Papa Dave. Lovely and caring man ❤
I have sincere and significant love and respect for Mr. Ramsey.
I would bet banks, whole life insurance and time share companies do not share my opinion.
Both term insurance and whole life has left me set for life. I was 66 years old and disabled when my husband passed away
Life Insurance tends to work great when the person dies. That doesn’t mean that one of them doesn’t work out in most peoples favor.
The insurance guy switched his argument from first-person account of evidence to appeal to authority when his first attempt to argue with Dave didn’t work. 😂
Absolutely love this guy. What a great gift to us all. Thank you Mr Ramsey!
First caller, “ DON’T DO IT “ you will end up supporting him and his family he might have a wife and children I seen this before they will swoon you until you fall then they take control my advice “ STOP “
I don’t think she’s ever seen 90 day fiancé.
