Most of the time, a lesson in common sense is taken much better by a person if it is given by a stranger. I don’t agree with some of his strategies; but he is good for people that have little or zero financial knowledge.

As much as I love all the new personalities, these videos make me sad. I forget how many more pieces off wisdom we used to get from Dave. Plus, that father like feel where he'd give tough love, be more compassionate, and give almost motivational speeches.... Now it's like "whats the question, here's the answer, next caller" But back then, he used to give 15 minute + mini speeches and THOSE are what really changed my life. I'm so lucky that when I started listening in highschool and college, I got THAT version of the DAVE Ramsey show... the Ramsey show is fine, but just not the same.

@@therapywithisabelyes, if you go back in the videos a couple of years, you’ll see videos where it’s just Dave (like the clips in this segment). Back then it was the “Dave Ramsey Show” before he started gearing up for retirement and rebranded it as the “Ramsey Show”.

Sometimes a credit card debt can go on forever, 6k went on for 15 years. I kept saying I’ll pay it off but kept paying off the minimum payments. I pay it off already, now I’m debt free. Note, never help out families and cousins because they won’t pay you back and if you ask for your money back years later, they other victim and you’re the bad person for asking. Helping families and cousins got me broke and started using credit card. Lesson learned

Ditto! Helped several Family and Friends on credit cards because I didn't have the cash on hand but wanted to help.
I did say to each of them that they didn't have to repay me.
I took out a personal loan in the amount of $13k in August 2021 for five years.
I just paid it off on April 1st, 2024 roughly 2 1/2 years early after throwing everything but the Kitchen sink at the debt.
So happy 😊 it's behind me with just my Car lease to go at roughly $5500.00 leftover.

When it becomes too difficult to organize things, it means you have too much and need to declutter. Buying more containers is not the solution. Most of the cleaning supplies we have we don’t need and if you want to try something new use up something old first. You only have so much square footage if you go beyond that you’re creating a mess. Everything should have a home and be accessible. Forge ahead and much love.

My son, in his mid-twenties, a couple years after college I had to sit my son down and explain the reason his little sister was so much more successful, since then he's changed his methods and he is also soaring. Having a target and a plan to reach that target makes the difference.

16:00 she really does not even want to try to negotiate with her family the arrangement. She's probably very passive, and possibly has survivor's guilt for being the only family member on the path towards success.

She's got a partner, she's asking Dave for advice, and if they lock in, they can turn their situation around. She definitely needs to work on accountability, and prioritizing. Take care of her fine before she starts trying to help everyone else.

Thing is there's nothing to negotiate. She can say "I'm only contributing this and you guys can decide to cover the rest of not" but her siblings have absolutely no obligation to take care of their parents who sound very irresponsible. She can only set her boundaries. She can't force an obligation onto others.
Sounds like the parents need to move back to their owned property and either brother moves or stays in exchange for helping them as needed.

Also let's not assume she has any negotiating power within her family only because she made up her mind. family is a delecate situation, and other cultures are way less individualistic than the us, some places is simply no concept of "me first" and one can't just force it. it might take some time.i also wonder about the others situation. if they live in a difficult situation themselves, which we don't know, they might look at big shot sister who went to America and maybe rightfully question why they have to support the parents purchase over there? we don't know, but i think it's too quick too assume that she could change the family dynamic and maybe whether she should. if anything, maybe the parents need to make some decisions to not ruin their daughter, if they're still able to. we don't know about their health or mental capacity at this point. also, if she is in the will inheriting the us house then maybe it's fair within family context? i don't know, just wanted to throw some other perspectives in the mix 😅

I was able to get a 20 year old excursion with over 240k miles for $1600 and it lasted me 4 years. It wasn’t sexy but I was able to move cross country for a higher paying job in it and found an apartment that I could walk to work. Good luck and happy hunting!

There are a handful of snowflakes here complaining about how Dave used to talk to folks...the gentle parent way, caring about your feelings and side-stepping poor life choices.
I started listening with his old clips and could NOT stand the repetitive callers: I have 4 kids, 60k in debt and I make 28k a year, I still owe 14k on my car and I want to buy a Condo. What should I do? Btw, been listening to you for years. Help me.
And poor Dave would gently, calmly tell these callers to refer theBaby Steps...over and over that I got sick of it.
The new personality and show tells it to them straight: Why would you do that? What have you done to achieve your goals?
All a breath of fresh air!

That poor newlywed... I feel for her. Central and South American culture are very toxic when it comes to supporting parents/siblings etc. They probably think she's "rich" because she lives in the US and then no one feels like they should do a thing to help the parents. Her parents obviously don't have the means to afford the mortgage and have a paid off property in Belize. They should live where they can afford to. Plus she's the only sibling helping pay the mortgage but once mom and dad go the siblings are going to want "their share".
