“Where Debt is Dumb, Cash is King, and the paid off home mortgage has taken the place of the BMW as the status symbol of choice!”- Dave Ramsey.
Now that’s the opening we remember and LOVE to HEAR!!! ❤️👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I relate to the first caller so much. My father was diagnosed with multiple myeloma and was in and out of the hospital due to complications. We aren’t close so it was so embarrassing when they were asking who the power of attorney and health care proxy’s were. He didn’t appoint that to anyone and he has four of us. No savings and house in foreclosure. He’s leaving nothing behind. I just kept saying it was a selfish thing to do and when I have kids they won’t ever have to worry or scramble.
I love how honest Dave is about his own past stupidity. It really makes it easier to relate to him.
Hello here watching. My mother has dementia. It is a terrible disease. She is in memory care now. We tried keeping her at home, but it got really tough. Trying to work full time, she hardly sleeps. It wasn't safe any longer. Please remember to take care of yourself as well. Being a caretaker takes its toll for sure.
My mom was a high paid attorney for decades. She was diagnosed with dementia in 2012. She had no money, no will. I was able to get the POA before she got really bad (recommend). She lived with me for 4 years, it is VERY hard. It became hard to keep her safe, including when I should have been sleeping, and someone always had to be there. She went to assisted living in a group home (these are great, look into them, only six other women in a house). She also went to adult daycare which gives the caretaker a break, look into that. Now she is in a nursing home, on Medicaid as Dave stated. Just know you are not financially responsible personally for any of it, because it can hurt your family and children. Best of luck.
What happened to her money?
My grandmother had dementia as well. My family started out caring for her at home, but as you mentioned, it can become unsafe for everyone. So, we eventually put her in a nursing care facility. We didn't have a great experience, and then we moved her to a group home and she got much better care. My heart goes out to all caregivers - it's much more overwhelming than I had realized...AND I'm so grateful for the time I had with her.
I’m so sorry. I took care of my mom in her last year but she did not have dementia or any other disabling mental or brain issues. I’m grateful. I sincerely wish you weren’t going through this.
I took care of my beloved Mother for Seven years as she suffered through and endured Parkinson's Disease and Lewy-Body Dementia. I myself am also afflicted with a legally disabling Blood Disorder. NONE of my relatives helped and they could be EXTREMELY volatile, cruel, and trauma-inducing during the very occasional instances in which they were around. The state we lived in (Florida) offered very few resources as help until end of life Hospice amid her final months, weeks, and days. Caring for my Mother was the honor of my Life and yet, it was also the most arduous endeavor I have ever undertaken. She and I were PROFOUNDLY close. I miss my sweet Mother with every breath. 🖤
@AvecPoesie Just wanted to send you a big hug xxx❤
Dave’s comments on the 1st caller was spot on. I take care of my mom now who was not financially smart so needs help. I’m so glad Dave calls out people to do the right thing like teaching kids about saving money and having a will! I’m not gonna be in that position in my 70’s! I’m learning from my family’s mistakes 😮😅
"She has alzheimers, she doesnt get a vote" What kind of sociopathic sickfuk would force someone's ex husband on to an old woman going through that? Glad Im taking care of my Grandpa and not someone like Dave...yikes. No wonder nursing homes are hell on Earth
Lol my mums friend works at macdonalds in her 70s. She has around 5M net worth. She just enjoys it. She has a full life. Shes raising her teen grandsons after her son had an early stroke and shes enjoying being surrounded by youth lol.
George is a natural breath of fresh air! Love George! He makes this show so fun! Genuine and direct and ohhh such help!
No he is trying so hard to be dave junior .
@@Inakamoand you're trying so hard to be a troll, but you're just a loser 😊
I started listening to the program to practice my english but it has helped me a lot with my finances. Thanks for all the tips!
I’ve only just discovered your channel last week. I’m super motivated (and shit scared) to pay my debt in a year! Please wish me luck 🙏 thank you for the work you’re doing, I’ll be watching your show regularly to stay on top of my game. Greetings from London 🇬🇧
How's it going on your journey? 🎉
I’m a new one on this too! 😊I’m older too so I’m scared too to do things differently but so many people have done this and succeeded! 🤓I’m getting some of Dave’s books too so you can do it!👍
@@nonainbloom so far- good! 😊 according to the plan, paid off quite a bit!
Wishing you all the best! 😊 Sounds like your super motivated! You'll do well!
U will grow addicted quickly to the show and to saving money anyways possible even if its 50cent! Or at least this was my endeavor with finding the show. It motivates you to know how to be able to tackle the debt without feeling like you arent getting anywhere. You get where you need to be fairly quick if you stay on top of it. I'm a watcher of the Ramsey show and the show his daughter rachel and George do together which is the happy hour . It's on TH-cam as well. Wishing you the best of luck. Keep chugging along ,you will get there 🎉
As a nurse I can speak for all Nurses in saying that Brandi is the only nurse in the history of forever that’s loves to chart!
I like how he tosses out George’s millionaire status! Real quick, congrats on the hard work George.
If he's splitting it with his wife, he's not really a millionaire

Rachel! I am so very sorry to hear about your mother. There is a drug to battle Alzheimers that is currently enrolling in a phase 3 trial called simufilim that is enrolling patients all over the country. One patient went from forgetting how to drive in his own neighborhood to visiting his daughter in Miami from NC....and drove himself
George's genuinely thoughtful comment at the 100:10 mark took that call to a who other level and Dave ran with it and next thing I knew my eyes were leaking b/c that was exactly my story. I see all the Ramsey personalities try and do this but George & John are the only ones I see nail it like that in the way that Dave does. George is even more impressive being so young & able to do that.
I respect how both of these guys ask the difficult, important questions in order to truly help callers. God bless people with true problems.
My family struggled and didn’t have much, and nothing will be left for us. Even so, any stress or “burden” left for us to figure out could never change the fact that I could never think of my parents as a burden. They sacrificed for us, and we will be prepared to show our appreciation and return the love and care they once provided to us.
The dream team! My two favorite people together!
In addition to having the will, you need to SEND COPIES to people. My mother never sent a copy to anyone and ended up losing it all from dementia and someone who showed up at the last minute and pursued it. Really sad for the whole family.
I didnt know it was that big of a pain to get legal access to care for a family member, i guess i need to start on this yesterday.
I took care of both of my parents on hospice and now have my schizophrenic brother all as a single mom. I had paid off $175k in medical debt for me and my two preemies doing all kinds of side hustles over the last decade in addition to my regular job. When my mom got sick last year I got put into a terrible situation because my parents did not prepare for end of life and they did not prepare a place for my brother. Now I'm starting over trying to knock out student loan debt while I get me and my kids situated.
Get long term care insurance, don't waste money on stupid things, and don't expect your kids to give up their lives to take care of you.
We paid cash for our house we bought it from the bank no realtor fees from the courthouse for $100,000! Best decision we ever made it’s gorgeous and the market was down at the time! I was 22 and my husband was 27 and we owned our house and cars no debt. 😊 our house now 7 years later is worth about $350,000 to $400,000!
Husband sniped you at a young age
Congratulations.
How much were the fix up costs, to go along with the low purchase price??
@@Kaythegardener-w5x there weren’t any I mean we painted and put in new carpet before we moved in but you didn’t HAVE to. Now we have done tons of upgrades and adding to our house in the 7 years we have been here but everyone does that. We love our house and are so blessed to be able to say we own our home at a young age.
It's teaching a man to fish, and not just handing him a meal. Love it!! What is best for an engaged couple, Total Money Makeover or FPU? As far as the mortgage comment, George's new catch phrase could be "The new FLEX is a paid off mortgage. " 😂 George sure likes the word Flex. ;)
Bradford and Emy are absolutely inspirational to me. @ 28:45 I will remember to make full use of any free gasoline I get in my tank! 😅
Love, love, love, the Dirty Rich People sarcasm! And thank goodness for them!
My brother has dementia and has a health care POA however I can’t do anything with it until I can get two physicians to agree to activate it. He was evaluated last year and it was agreed that he had lost executive function however because he was drinking they would not diagnose the type of disability he has. My point is while having a health care POA is good advice it is not a silver bullet .
Yep I had Poa on my mom and because she refused a nursing home, I lost my job because she couldn't be left alone. It's not just a quick fix. It's very difficult to get someone put in a home if they refuse to go because the court tries to maintain independence.
I like George with Jade. Great combo when Dave can’t be there
Rachel should check with her local Social Services agency. They often have resources available to help with elder care. Also, check in with her local library - again they usually have lists of local agencies that can help with elder and memory care. Her mother’s doctor and hospital ombudsman might have other resources too. Depending on how advanced her mom’s Alzheimer’s is, she might also look into adult daycare. This will help her get a break and have some space to breathe. (Speaking from experience, you really can’t be there all day and all night and still maintain your sanity.)
You are correct. My mother had a terminal cancer.
Dave, Armadillos have more compassion than corporate America despite having small hearts 💕
I'm from Ukraine, I listen to you almost every day! Thank you!
The young debt free couple were wonderful to hear from. Great job guys!
I remember losing a good chunk of my 401K in 2008, but it all came back and then some. There's always going to be something happening investment wise, but the important thing is to stay the course.
My heart breaks for this woman mom that have dementia. Prayers for this woman.

My nephew is an entrepreneur, whose business is going gang busters (for now), but always has another idea. He’s creating a chasm of sorts with his wife (my niece); he continues to call it “our dream” but it is not hers. Ladies once they are the ex keep them the ex smh 🤦♀️
…that part, they are an ex for a reason. I’ve heard too many stories of people getting pregnant with the ex…like what did you think would happen?! But hey a baby is still a blessing
In Iowa USA, a will, and a medical power of attorney does not grant you any right to oversee the financial decisions of a parent or family member who isn’t able to make those decisions for themselves a very separate financial power of attorney is required to pay that family members bills with their own finances.
I hope Ashley in Dallas TX took Dave's advice & followed through with it. Texas has Child support laws & the father will have to pay 20-25% of his pay to the child. She needs more money to raise a child in the Dallas area cause it's expensive there. There's a lot of help there for her & through the right church there too. Dave was right on this one big time.
I can't wait to do my own scream! Almost finished with credit cards, next is mortgage.
So sorry to hear about Ashley with MS. Dr. Ken Berry has a TH-cam podcast on this subject. I hope that would be helpful.

First time I heard long-term care insurance mentioned on your show - can you talk more about it?
Even tho I know some guys are getting a raw deal on child support cause they want to be in there child’s life and some moms won’t let them but I see why it’s necessary when you get clowns like her ex husband I’m glad it’s in place please take half that idiots check!!!
Contact the Department of Aging and Disability. The Community Bases Assistance CBA. I take care of my mom went thru Guardianship. The State thru CBA Program will allow you to hire someone to take care of her while you work. I been doing this Since 2011. Mom is not in nursing home! She lives with me and I get 56 hours of care each week, so I can work.

"My mom has dimentia"
Dave: Sell the mom
1:28:57 also. You’re paying 3% interest on what balance on the mortgage? You’re saving money faster than the balance of your mortgage? Your 7% gains on your 500$ or whatever you are saving would need to outweigh the 3% on the 300-500k mortgage
Congrats Kelly! You are awesome!
57:00 dave letting us know something most of us have always believed. i have always thought working for a corporate business' i would always get paid as long as i dont mess up and working for my self was horrible because i never knew when the next buck would come and wanted pay security with a corporate. so i got back on a w2. i created this fake cloud that im safe at my job. it could happen to any of us unfortunately. hopfully one day i can try and work for my self again.
What is a good way to go about getting a will done? Just got married last year and a baby on the way in a few months. Definitely want to take care of it
I swear that song that plays after commercial is Pale Shelter by Tears for Fears. Tell me I'm wrong lol
When you talk about investing is a Roth IRA what you mean? Is that the best option, im catching up and im 31 and looking to invest and have enough in retirement around 65-70.
Yes it’s not tied to an employer. You contribute after tax so you don’t have to pay taxes on all the growth. If you start now at your age you will be very wealthy at retirement age. I wish I had started mine at 31!
When wills came up, Dave was the most angry I've ever seen him.
Get a power of attorney. Makes the difference between you or the state having control.
Great interview!
Happy 10 year anniversary Kelly !! 10 year Ramsey-versary
The dad doesn’t want to help. It’s typical and it’s also typical that the daughter is always the care provider for parents
Happy Ramsey-versary, Kelly! 💐
Is this a good time to move to NYC - question. (1) Can you work for a school/university as a resident assistant (RA) ? To have room and board covered?? Just a thought.
There is people in in the US that needs help too and the government don't help the homeless or veterans the rich people could donate their monies to those people here in the US.
Had to throw in the, “I own a McDonalds!” ???
“James is hip” is so hip to say.
49:35 If YOU donate 100%, almost :-) , goes to where it was indented it to go.
If you pay taxes only a fraction only ever goes to charitable endeavour, after federal and state taxes, fees, budget costings, wages, military, etc. My guess, PFOOMA Method, is only 5-10% would actuality goes to community/communal (good) use.... and I'm being conservative....
Oh they come from Tulsa, or like some say....the Paris of Oklahoma. 😂
I love listening to you. I am to far gone to help
I'm amazed at how some people are fragile when it comes to investing. That woman Debbie experienced 2008 and went into money market instead of mutual funds? Oh Lord. I'm nearing retirement (few months away) and my portfolio isn't changing one bit. I'm sticking to a few funds that are made up of over 98% stocks. Bonds?....nope, not for me. I'm not scared of the roller coaster ride the market experiences. Let it ride baby !!!!!! EDIT to add: I bet Debbie is kicking herself in the butt if she saw this episode.
I would encourage you to check into the Monte Carlo simulation research. Also a bond tent seriously reduces the risk of retirement. I love retirement, but I’m also just a young guy, so if there’s something I’m missing let me know.
@@baitroyale6070if you're young, let it roll and take some chances. I will heed your advice and check out that Monte Carlo simulation...thanks for that.
Love Ramsey. But he’s wrong on Bitcoin. He will figure that out in the next few years. It’s a new emerging asset class. Wish he would take more time to learn about it.

Good Stuff
Ramsay recommends everyone should have long term care insurance. Haha. What a joke. Because the reality of costs for institutional care, insurance companies are backing out of the area. Both of us have such a policy which was for unlimited time. We had to cut back to 6 years and a dollar cap. Each year the cost goes up and the benefits shrink. This year the unlimited policy would have had a premium of $24,000.
1st Caller: I cannot believe he suggested to put this lady in a nursing home!! You don’t think she knows that’s an option?? She obviously does not want to do that. I wonder if Dave had a bad relationship with his parents/in-laws. I’m seeing a trend when it comes to parents/in-laws.
My grandmother had Alzheimer’s for 20+ years (rare for someone to live that long with it). My mom and aunt’s (4 of them) spent about half of that time taking turns taking care of her in the beginning stages. I grew up seeing it all and the toll it took on everyone. She did not remember us and could not even talk. It came a time when it physically became too difficult to care for her. She was placed in a nursing home but we would all take turns visiting her on different days and being active around her, though we weren’t even sure what she could of been feeling or thinking. Nursing home doesn’t mean abandonment, it means help for the health of everyone. Him mentioning it made perfect sense to me as something to plan for in the future financially. That call hit home for me and I can only imagine it being just one person to care for her when my grandmother had multiple daughters. Not to say there isn’t people that abandon their parents in nursing homes because I spent a lot time in my childhood talking with the other folk that were being cared for in those facilities as well. The caller reminded me of my aunts so I doubt she’s do that.
@@mikeym708 My point is she knows it’s an option. Nothing about this call sounded like she wanted to do that. Nursing homes should be the absolute last resort unless the person wants to be there. Most of the workers there do not care about the patients. Some of them do but many patients aren’t well taken care of. The workers aren’t paid much and staffing is low at many places. If a person gets to a point where they cannot take care of their parents then you have to do what you have to do. Her situation did not sound so bad where she can’t. My grandma and aunt both take care of my great-grandma. I just come from a family who believes in taking care of each other so the whole family helps. We believe in sacrifice whether the person knows who we are or not. None of the elderly people in our family have ever been put in a home. I will say if they decide to put their loved one in a home they need to be there regularly to see what’s going on. My issue with Dave is he doesn’t believe in sacrificing for others. Sacrificing for other people means some times we will be inconvenienced and feel discomfort for the sake of another. That is one part of Christian doctrine he does not seem to understand.
I worked in the industry and so often it was not as “roses” as your situation. ALMOST always it was one person doing the caretaking and NONE of the other family helping. We always said the person who needs the care WILL be taken care of. The caregiver was the one who sacrificed EVERYTHING and their own detriment. You cannot keep up with taking care of the elderly nowadays. Healthcare has made it that the elderly live a looongg time and need care for looong period of time. It is not sustainable for one person to do it. I was single, working a job 60 hours a week and had TWO seniors in my house to take care of. One had dementia. I was gonna end up in the hospital and would have lost my job AND home. Then who would have been taking care of them…..the nursing home….and what would have happened to me? Homeless and on welfare. Everyone has limits and I could even recognize the fear, stress and desperation in her voice! Thank you Dave!
