One of the features no one mentions about Google Pixel phones is on video you can pause , and start recording again and it's a good transition for quick videos that you need to add several shots too but haven't the time to edit .
Great video , I've switched to the 8Pro , and also gone all out Google buds pro and pixel watch 2 , and honestly it's like a breath of fresh air , I can only imagine it's like coming out of prison and feeling free again 💁

I did the same. Once you get used to the new pixel phone its pretty nice. My favorite feature of the pixel 8 pro? Its so light and thin compared to the iphone pro max! Its much easier to hold and more comfortable in your hand. The pixel watch 2, I love again how light and the circular polished rock look. Its very comfortable to wear all day and it shows your heart rate constantly. You don't have to be in a work out. All the other features I used on the apple watch is there are as well, answering calls, responding to text and google assistant is there just like siri was. I used samsung android phones in the past, and I don't miss any of their crap ware and having to disable all their stuff, and getting android beta updates immediately is nice as well. No waiting months for it to maybe come to your phone.

I've used iphone for years, but I'm so happy i switched to Android a 1 year ago. I since moved my whole family to Android. Better pictures, brilliant AI, better battery (especially if you optimise your phone - remove gestures, haptics, etc)...most of the google apps are class (keep notes and photos, etc...i can access everything on my macbook and windows computer)...it's literally freedom. I went to pixel 8 pro, pixel watch 2, and pixel buds pro. Ditched iphone pro max, airpods pro 2nd gen, and apple watch series 7. It was a complete replacement, only thing I miss is find my phone service keeping track of the kids when their out and about. Favorite thing I like about the pixel 8 pro is how thin and light it is compared to iphone pro max. When you get used to the weight and how easy it is to use with one hand for example, then grab your iphone pro max, it feels like a brick.

One of the things to note about the battery is that it is an adaptive battery and will adjust battery consumption over time to get the most out of the battery. So when you first begin to use it, you will undoubtedly consume more battery until the adaptive AI learns how and when you use the phone. A lot of people complain about the battery life when they get the phone without realizing that the battery is adaptive and needs time to learn, which can take anywhere from 1-3 weeks.

Say, with regards to google temporarily rerouting your pictures to their server for AI imposed color adjustments and other things, is there a permission to grant or deny that capability? Like say you don't want the pictures you take to be rerouted, but you want them to remain local to your phone only, can you opt for this?

Can you set one alarm for a specific date and time in the future? Then, once you dismiss it, it will delete that one time alarm. I have an iphone and not having this feature drives me insane. I don't want a calendar notification or a reminder because when I have my phone on silent (which I do most of the time) the alarm will not ring loudly, defeating the purpose. Also, can you schedule a text to send at a specific date and time? My android friends have these features, which is one of the reasons I'm considering switching from iphone. Just want to double check that you can do these things with pixel 8 before I purchase! Thanks!!

I have a very particular question about “best take”. Everyone talks about it being used in group photos but let’s say I at a Comic Con taking a selfie with a celebrity. What if I don’t like my face in that particular selfie? Can I use best take in this way or can it only be used in group pictures? Hope this example makes sense! Thank you! I have always had iPhones but possibly looking at other options when it is time for me to upgrade. I have Cerebral Palsy and sometimes my face does not always turn out the best for pictures, especially if they are quick so this option really caught my eye but I don’t take a lot of group photos. Thanks so much!

From yours and other reviews, it shows just how utterly capable and close today's phones are. A big fan of Android phones because of the variety of flavors and features. I also like the extra customization the Android still allows. I'd be more interested in considering iOS as an option if there we various brands offering the platform. I don't want to be beholden to just one brand because I've gotten used to a feature or two and it impedes me from considering other choices. Thank you for your honest, thorough review.

The Pixel platform is definitely the "smartest" phone I've ever seen. Find yourself in a restaurant or something and hear a song you like, but don't know what it is or who sings it, the Pixel automatically detects it and displays the track title/artist at the bottom of the lock screen. On flights, it automatically displays what gate you're departing from, then when you land, it changes to what carousel your baggage is on. There is no bloatware whatsoever, which was the reason I left Samsung. I already use gmail, YT music, Google Calendar, and Google Drive, so it works together seamlessly. Everything is just so intuitive and convenient.
I do wish it had a more powerful processor/GPU in it. And it gets hot pretty easily. Definitely not without flaws, but it's such a cool phone.

I feel like tech reviews, especially in USA, are all following the same hot/cold list of things to discuss about Pixel phones: Pixel=best photo, iPhone=better video, Pixel=best translate AI, iPhone=better apps/blue bubble. Is it all for the algo?! I guess there's just so much focus on non-productive stuff like scrolling on instagram and an intensely scrutinizing color balance on mega zoom images rather than some of the powerful features available on Pixel/Android. Like I switched back to my Pixel purely because Apple's calendar widget doesn't let you scroll ahead on the week and Pixel's does. It's the little things that add up and make it a great productivity tool.

Thank you Jacklyn for your perspective here, I am rather unknowledgeable on Apple I went from , Nokia Symbian, to Windows phone to Android and maybe have been missing out but that was my path. I have a Pixel 7 and bought my son a Pixel 8 and my spouse a Pixel 8 pro, Android 14 was a game changer for my Pixel 7 in regards to battery life, stability. My brother and sister are Apple only, they never gonna change but humans are creatures of habit

You're measuring ice blocks and then the coffee surrounding it, this is why you get mixed temperature readings. There is a tutorial that is given at the start about AI features and how to use them.. Also only videos will be uploaded to Google cloud for improvement not pictures.

I am primarily an Android user, and at first glance I didn't understand your bias for iOS. I had to go back and reread the title, which clearly stated you are an iOS user, lol, I get it now. Fairly accurate information I believe. I have an iPhone and I really enjoy the device because of the way the user can interact with others with iMessage, it's pretty cool. I enjoy that apple devices hold their value two years later as well. Hope you get better asap.

As a user of both Apple and android, RCS is too much of a mess. The web version of messages is unstable, and when you go all in on Samsung and try to use Windows to text from Samsung phones, last I tried (less than a year ago), it didn’t even support RCS; It switched me back to SMS.
I agree, I wish we could unify everything together a la Beeper, but until RCS irons out all the kinks, iMessage on its own is way more convenient.
I agree with you though, it sucks that it has to be that way. My fiancée is a pixel user and I’m an iPhone user, so we have to use FB Messenger. 🤢

When the 8 Pro launched, I was going to upgrade my P7P, but the trade-in offers were garbage. I kept my P7P and got an iPhone 15 Pro Max to replace my aging 8 Plus. The Pixel is still my main phone, but I'm enjoying what's new on iOS

    • @lockysock1901

I upgraded from my pixel 7 to the 8 pro. The trade in offer in Australia were really good but I'd thought I'd stay with the 7 because as an average user it felt kinda the same when I went to have a look at the 8 pro in one of the shops. But I had been watching the latest reviews on it & it won me over. The trade in offers were gone so bought one outright. Content with my decision & the upgrade from 7 to 8 pro is worth it in my opinion especially battery life & the speakers ...... I'll be watching out for trade in specials in next year's pixel line up 😂

The only reason I'm commenting is my iPhone 13 Pro Max screen stop responding. Tried everything , tech support mentions new screen costs $500+. So I headed to my network provider & picked up a Google Pixel 8. I haven't used android/ google in years. I've always supported Apple, then before that Blackberry die hard. It's a transition from going from Apple IOS to Android. I have 10 days to return the phone. Let's see how it goes. Thank you for sharing the video. 👍🏼

I tried the pixel 8 and pixel watch 2 for two weeks, but ended up going back to my iPhone 15. Loved the Pixel Watch and the Pixel 8 hardware, but just found Android to be more difficult to use compared to IOS. Also, that Pixel temperature sensor seems pretty pointless.

What i like from my pixel is: you can share any images from any apps like Facebook or even TH-cam just by sliding it to the share button, no screenshot needed, you don't need to open the pay app to pay, just present the phone from the lockscreen, google can readaloud a web page.

Nice comparison but I would have loved to see the iPhone 15 Pro compared to the Pixel 8 (non pro) since they are similarly sized. I don't want a big 6.7" phone. I am torn between the iPhone 15 pro, S23 and Pixel 8.
