Even though I’m already an OSU student, I liked this video because there was some stuff that I didn’t know. Now I have advice for younger people that ask me how to get into OSU so thanks!
Both of my brothers have gotten accepted and are attending THE Ohio State University. The difference is Ohio State is my dream school unlike my brothers who had other schools in interest. I really love Ohio State and don’t want to be the runt of the family. I need to get my ACT up (23) but my GPA is great and I’m top of my class. I’m a first generation student and Hispanic as well as involved in a lot of extracurricular activities.
for transfers!!! try to see if you can get your application reconsidered if you are originally denied. this happened to me as I did HORRIBLE at the first school I attended my first semester of college, but I still wanted to see if I would somehow get in. I went to community college my second semester, did way better, had a boost in my gpa overall, & asked to be reconsidered for admission & they admitted me.

this video was SO helpful thank you !! this has been my dream school ever since i found out about the marching band ( i play the trumpet and i did the tbdbitl summer camp last year ! ) and i'm applying for early action later this year. i'm just a * little * nervous because i'm only going to end up with two years of a foreign language. even if i'm taking ap classes and an extra year to exceed the requirements in math and social sciences, will that weigh me down? i couldn't take an extra year of a foreign language because of band and a desire to have an art class freshman and sophomore years. i'm honestly terrified because i really want to get into their business program and ofc, to try out for tbdbitl !

hey marissa! i've been binge watching your college videos since quarantine STARTED and I'm now a senior and will be applying in about 6 months (which is terrifying) and I've been really worried about not getting onto main campus b/c I don't wanna go anywhere else my first year, I have the recommended requirements and maybe even more and my GPA is pretty good, however I just want to make sure I WILL get onto main campus.
I’m hoping to apply next fall, I have about a 3.7 gpa and am soon to take the SAT. I’m involved with several extra curriculars, I’m really nervous I’m not going to get in :(
I went to the Lima Campus of Ohio State and I really never had a desire to go to Main Campus except maybe to have a better campus life/dorm life because I never got to experience that and I feel like I wish I did at least one year on the Main Campus. I mean don't get me wrong I loved Lima Campus, but I just think maybe I would be better socially if I had, had dorm life in my life and been on my own and had some more independence.
the regional campuses are great!! But main campus definitely gives you a bigger taste of a "college experience" with the dorms, clubs, football, parties, football, etc.

I just applied for EA and I’m SUPER scared of not being accepted. I’m an IB Diploma student, but without ACT/SAT scores, have 4.01 weighted scale, applied for scholars, and wanting to major in Political Science. i was wondering if anyone here was accepted into OSU Honors College. I have a 4.07ish GPA weighted (on a 4.0 scale) and my PSAT was a 1270/1520. I took the SAT a few days ago but am waiting on results. If you were accepted into OSU Honors, what were your SAT scores? Thank you!
I have a 3.65 gpa (but took all honors and took tons of AP’s) and a 1250 SAT. I also took a business internship, played baseball and worked. I really hope I get in. It’s been my dream school my entire life.
What if you haven’t taken a foreign language class at all? Would you still get accepted? I’m going into my junior year of high school so I could still always take Spanish one and Spanish two.
Every school is different so I can’t say for sure. But on OSU’s website they do require 2 years of the same language and prefer 3 of the same for admission.
No!! When you apply there is no spot for info like that, same with "alumni family members" OSU doesn't ask for your connections, only your academic info.
Hey Marissa! I love your videos, they're so helpful! ♥ Do you HAVE to have at least 2 units of the same foreign language? I know it says that it's the minimum required, but will OSU still consider you if you only have 1 unit of foreign language?
I am applying to OSU and I actually talked to my school counselor about this! I go to on an online high school but take CCP courses. I am planning on majoring in chemistry, so I've been focusing mostly on science courses and the core courses that I need, meaning that I have only taken one language with the CCP program. I also took one language course with my high school, but it was a different language. To say that I freaked out when I read that requirement would be an understatement lmao. My advisor basically said that it's something they look at, but hardly a concrete requirement, but they might just make you take two units of the same language while attending their college. If you have a reason for not taking two units of the same language, I'd definitely write about that in your application, like in the "additional information" section if you're using Common App like I am. I am planning on writing about how it is less common for students to take multiple language courses if they're attending an online school and how I have been focusing on core and science courses, as I stated before. I'm still lowkey kinda freaked out about it, but I'm hoping that they'll understand and be chill with that!
I don't want to advise one way or another because I'm not sure, based on their website it looks like a minimum. If you are worried you can always give OSU a call 614-292-3980 and they can help you!!! Sometimes guidance counselors don't always know, so I wouldn't rely on their word. I would hate for you to miss out on going to OSU because your guidance counselor didn't know.
Hey! I just got my acceptance notification yesterday so I know that it's fine if you haven't taken two years of the same language, at least if you explain why like I did. They probably just expect us to take 2 units of a foreign language at their university, which I was planning on anyway. I hope you get your admission decision soon if you haven't already!
I'm not sure if there is a time limit for "first gen" consideration. I would assume no, seeing as First Gen would mean you are THE FIRST in your family (ever) to attend university - but I could be wrong!
Where my class of ‘24 at? I got accepted and also got into the honors program and I’m majoring in Political Science. My stats were: GPA: 3.84 UW, 4.46 weighted, ACT: 31 superscored
Let’s say I took Korean 2 but couldn’t take Korean 3 my junior year due to schedule complications, but I can take Korean 3 my senior year. Will that still count as exceeding the minimum requirement even though it’s my senior year?

I have ADD which makes it so hard for me to learn and take test, which is my main concern because I’m only a sophomore in high school I haven’t took my ACT or SAT yet. They will be looking at your ACT/SAT but they won't be looking at your course exam grades, just your overall grade in the class and your GPA. I think volunteering would be a great addition to your application, but correct they won't know your major when applying too OSU, but your major will of course know your major and that volunteer work could help be admitted into the university and your preferred major. Letters of rec aren't required but they accept up to 2 of them and they can be from coaches, teachers, bosses, anyone!! I personally don't think it's bad not to be in NHS, honors classes will look good for the application!!
I'm not sure because I attended Ohio State and not Miami, but maybe check if there are Miami youtubers or check out their admissions site and compare info from this video!
what is the max amount of credits you have taken, and what would you recommend I am thinking of taking a full boat next semester, ive already taken 16 last semester and 14 the semester before that with no problem but I am worried itll be too much what do you think? also whats your opinion on online classes?
18 credit hours at once is the max I've done. it definitely depends on how you are and if you have a job and your major etc. there's a lot of factors, so that is totally up to you! Don't overwhelm yourself and take care of yourself!! Me personally, I haven't taken 18 since freshman year because I can't do it, but everyone is different!
Marissa Nicole yea i guess that makes sense, for me I work 2 days a week, my major is sociology/criminology & criminal justice studies, whats your thoughts? im just an average student the most ive consistently taking is 16 credits, but i just dont know if i could handle 18, but i want to graduate early :/
that's totally up to you! If you want to graduate early, that's kind of what you have to do :/ so you might have to try it and see how you work with that! everyone is different!

I definitely would! Especially with everything going on ACT/SAT scores aren't required so I would give as much info as you have on yourself, a personal statement, 3 letters of rec, do really well on your essay and full application! good luck! 💗

i have an A in AP Euro, but it’s too stressful for me with the way my teacher teaches it. Is it ok if I don’t take many AP classes? My high school is very rigorous if that makes a difference. Other than that, I have a 4.0 unweighted, i’m in a few ECs, and I’ll get a job soon. I’m LGBT+, and I’m taking Spanish 4.
AP classes aren't mandatory! as long as you have those minimum college requirements, you're okay. AP and Post Secondary are just helpful for YOU and it may heeelllpppp with admissions, but not necessary.
update: application decisions released yesterday for some people, i'm not sure if they release gradually because I still haven't received a decision yet and from what i've heard the date you submitted your application doesn't affect the day you receive it. do you know how this works?
there are two dates for early action admissions and if you didn’t receive it on the 10th then don’t stress cuz I didn’t get mine yet either but on January 21 they will release the other decision letters
correct, there is no correlation between when you submit and when you hear because there are multiple committees looking over applications at the same time, so it's just a matter of time. don't fret! It'll come!
It has always been my dream to attend! I am a Jr. in high school, but my school does not offer foreign language. To meet the requirements I will be taking 2 classes during the summer and 1 online during my senior year so that I have better chances of getting accepted. I have been offered a scholarship for music and plan to be in TBDBITL, but that does not mean I will be accepted. I have a 3.5 GPA and am yet to take the ACT or SAT. But you said that as long as I am born in Ohio and have a 2.0 I am guaranteed to attend a Regional University if I am not accepted into Columbus Campus? I am very nervous for my application as it has always been my dream to attend and I wanted to make sure I heard and understand that correctly. It would only take about a year of attendance at a Regional Campus and then I could go to Main Campus (meeting the requirements of course)? I would just like to make sure I am guaranteed acceptance to Ohio State so I can stop worrying as much. I did not know that this was an option before, and knowing that I am guaranteed to attend would make me feel much better as then I would know that I would soon be able to attend main campus. Any type of feedback would be really appreciated, thank you very much! :)
Correct, if you're an Ohio resident (and meet the other requirements I mentioned) then you're guaranteed admission to at least a regional campus ♥️ I linked the websites for more info on those things in the description, I would look into those sites just for some clarity and to ease your mind
At OSU you schedule those on your own using the schedule planner through Buckeye Link. But I would recommend meeting with your academic advisor to make sure the classes you're taking are good and keeping you on track for graduation!

They're smaller and cost less money, and have fewer major selections. Typically students don't graduate from a regional, and come to the Columbus campus to finish classes and graduate!
both my parents went to OSU and I had a 3.9, 29 ACT, like 8 AP/Honors, 3 year varsity letterman, service, etc and got deferred then rejected. When you live in central Ohio it's 10x harder to get in!!!
OSU is definitely getting harder and harder to get into every year and becomes more and more prestigious. But if you are a resident of OSU then like I said in the video you were automatically admitted to a regional and then you could have come over to the Columbus campus your sophomore year!!

I didn't take any foreign languages in high school because I already speak a second language. Do I have to take a foreign class to go to OSU if I speak a second language? I don't mind taking a foreign class, but I was just wondering.
Rachel Turner So my ACT was not very high at all. I sent in a 23. My GPA was a 3.9 unweighted, ( I believe my weighted was 4.2?). I only ever took the PSAT and I got a 1080 on that I think. So again not very high at all. I originally was accepted as a pre major, but shortly after was directly admitted in to the business school after they gave my application further review. You can only go to a regional campus if you are a state of Ohio resident. So if you are from the UK, then no! You would have to apply to Columbus campus and get accepted.
It depends on the school but, for OSU I would follow their guidelines listed on their website and if you have any additional questions I would call admissions just to be sure!
I mean living in Ohio doesn't mean anything for getting admitted ONLY IF you are denied main campus then you are offered regional if you are an Ohio resident. But, there is a thingy where "once a buckeye always a Buckeye" thing where if you went to high school and graduated in Ohio then you're always considered an Ohio Resident for osu purposes so if that applies to you then you could still be offered regional if you are denied main!
The major social sciences are Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Geography, History, Law, Linguistics, Politics, Psychology and Sociology but different schools may qualify others so you can always call and ask!

Hiii! So I’m an out of state student. I live in TN and I’m actually graduating in May of this year w/ and associates so that leaves me at 60 credits. I applied last night & I’ve been looking for videos like crazy bc I’m worried I won’t get i n. I called their admissions office & I was told for Columbus campus a competitive applicant is a 2.5 student. I’m at a 2.7 bc I struggled a lot with a class since I was trying to balance youth leading & work. I’m currently sitting at A’s & B’s so I’m sure that’ll also raise my GPA up a little more. I did specify that in all forms. Ig what I’m saying/ wondering is, does all this apply to out of state students? I know you mentioned how in state students have higher chances but I just wanted clarification on that.
So in state students only get guaranteed admission to a regional campus as an incoming freshman. But when OSU is actually looking at the applications they aren’t looking at student’s majors or in state vs out of state vs international. All of that is a blind look. THEN if you’re denied freshman they look and if you’re in state, they offer regional etc. so being out of state won’t lessen your chances of getting in!
it doesn't matter WHEN you took them, just that you're reaching the requirements at SOME POINT in your high school career but you can always call admissions and double check :)

LSU is a really good college but I don’t know if I want to attend because I have lives in Columbus my whole life and I kind of want to get away from it
I can assure you, OSU is like a mini city in itself, it's so cool. But I totally understand that because I wanted to get away too! do whatever makes your heart happy 💞
Each class you take is classified by credit hours because full time status is at least 12 credit hours (or 4 classes, because usually classes are 3 credit hours, but you can find some for more or less) they essentially signify how "hard" the class will be. the higher th credit hour, the harder the class.
Wait? How long do you have to live in Ohio for to be a "resident"? Also my mom and dad were both born in Ohio but We are a Military Family, so I am technically a Resident?
Out of state students can not attend a regional campus. Only in state students. And only freshman are guaranteed admission to a regional campus if denied Columbus or if they just apply to a regional. Transfer students aren’t GUARANTEED admission to a regional even if they’re in state, because that guarantee is only offered to freshman. But there is no minimum GPA for applicants to Ohio state. Students looking to transfer to OSU can apply with any GPA, however on their website it says transfer students are considered competitive with a 2.5 GPA at least. I hope that helps!!
It depends, some applications you write it IN the application, if not (at least with OSU) you're able to email a PDF of your essay to admissions and they will attach it to your application. If you don't know how, Google it. If you're applying for Fall 2021 then you have (Early Action) until November 1st to submit your transcripts, so just keep bugging them, and until (Regular Decision) February 1st.

I went to the Lima Campus of Ohio State and I really never had a desire to go to Main Campus except maybe to have a better campus life/dorm life because I never got to experience that and I feel like I wish I did at least one year on the Main Campus. I mean don't get me wrong I loved Lima Campus, but I just think maybe I would be better socially if I had, had dorm life in my life and been on my own and had some more independence.
the regional campuses are great!! But main campus definitely gives you a bigger taste of a "college experience" with the dorms, clubs, football, parties, football, etc.

I’m an IB Diploma student, but without ACT/SAT scores, have 4.01 weighted scale, applied for scholars, and wanting to major in Political Science. Every school is different so I can’t say for sure. But on OSU’s website they do require 2 years of the same language and prefer 3 of the same for admission.

No!! When you apply there is no spot for info like that, same with "alumni family members" OSU doesn't ask for your connections, only your academic info.
Hey Marissa! I love your videos, they're so helpful! ♥ Do you HAVE to have at least 2 units of the same foreign language? I know it says that it's the minimum required, but will OSU still consider you if you only have 1 unit of foreign language?
I am applying to OSU and I actually talked to my school counselor about this! I go to on an online high school but take CCP courses. I am planning on majoring in chemistry, so I've been focusing mostly on science courses and the core courses that I need, meaning that I have only taken one language with the CCP program. I also took one language course with my high school, but it was a different language. To say that I freaked out when I read that requirement would be an understatement lmao.
My advisor basically said that it's something they look at, but hardly a concrete requirement, but they might just make you take two units of the same language while attending their college. If you have a reason for not taking two units of the same language, I'd definitely write about that in your application, like in the "additional information" section if you're using Common App like I am. I am planning on writing about how it is less common for students to take multiple language courses if they're attending an online school and how I have been focusing on core and science courses, as I stated before.
I'm still lowkey kinda freaked out about it, but I'm hoping that they'll understand and be chill with that!

I don't want to advise one way or another because I'm not sure, based on their website it looks like a minimum. If you are worried you can always give OSU a call 614-292-3980 and they can help you!!! Sometimes guidance counselors don't always know, so I wouldn't rely on their word. I would hate for you to miss out on going to OSU because your guidance counselor didn't know.

Hey! I just got my acceptance notification yesterday so I know that it's fine if you haven't taken two years of the same language, at least if you explain why like I did. I have ADD which makes it so hard for me to learn and take test, which is my main concern because I’m only a sophomore in high school I haven’t took my ACT or SAT yet. They will be looking at your ACT/SAT but they won't be looking at your course exam grades, just your overall grade in the class and your GPA. I think volunteering would be a great addition to your application, but correct they won't know your major when applying too OSU, but your major will of course know your major and that volunteer work could help be admitted into the university and your preferred major. Letters of rec aren't required but they accept up to 2 of them and they can be from coaches, teachers, bosses, anyone!! I personally don't think it's bad not to be in NHS, honors classes will look good for the application!!

18 credit hours at once is the max I've done. it definitely depends on how you are and if you have a job and your major etc. there's a lot of factors, so that is totally up to you! Don't overwhelm yourself and take care of yourself!! Me personally, I haven't taken 18 since freshman year because I can't do it, but everyone is different!

i have an A in AP Euro, but it’s too stressful for me with the way my teacher teaches it. Is it ok if I don’t take many AP classes? My high school is very rigorous if that makes a difference.
Other than that, I have a 4.0 unweighted, i’m in a few ECs, and I’ll get a job soon. I’m LGBT+, and I’m taking Spanish 4.
AP classes aren't mandatory! as long as you have those minimum college requirements, you're okay. AP and Post Secondary are just helpful for YOU and it may heeelllpppp with admissions, but not necessary.

update: application decisions released yesterday for some people, i'm not sure if they release gradually because I still haven't received a decision yet and from what i've heard the date you submitted your application doesn't affect the day you receive it. do you know how this works?
there are two dates for early action admissions and if you didn’t receive it on the 10th then don’t stress cuz I didn’t get mine yet either but on January 21 they will release the other decision letters

It has always been my dream to attend! I am a Jr. in high school, but my school does not offer foreign language. To meet the requirements I will be taking 2 classes during the summer and 1 online during my senior year so that I have better chances of getting accepted. I have been offered a scholarship for music and plan to be in TBDBITL, but that does not mean I will be accepted. I have a 3.5 GPA and am yet to take the ACT or SAT. But you said that as long as I am born in Ohio and have a 2.0 I am guaranteed to attend a Regional University if I am not accepted into Columbus Campus? I am very nervous for my application as it has always been my dream to attend and I wanted to make sure I heard and understand that correctly. It would only take about a year of attendance at a Regional Campus and then I could go to Main Campus (meeting the requirements of course)? I would just like to make sure I am guaranteed acceptance to Ohio State so I can stop worrying as much. I did not know that this was an option before, and knowing that I am guaranteed to attend would make me feel much better as then I would know that I would soon be able to attend main campus. Any type of feedback would be really appreciated, thank you very much! :)

At OSU you schedule those on your own using the schedule planner through Buckeye Link. But I would recommend meeting with your academic advisor to make sure the classes you're taking are good and keeping you on track for graduation!

What is the difference between regional and Columbus campus
They're smaller and cost less money, and have fewer major selections. Typically students don't graduate from a regional, and come to the Columbus campus to finish classes and graduate!
both my parents went to OSU and I had a 3.9, 29 ACT, like 8 AP/Honors, 3 year varsity letterman, service, etc and got deferred then rejected. When you live in central Ohio it's 10x harder to get in!!!
OSU is definitely getting harder and harder to get into every year and becomes more and more prestigious. But if you are a resident of OSU then like I said in the video you were automatically admitted to a regional and then you could have come over to the Columbus campus your sophomore year!!

Rachel Turner So my ACT was not very high at all. I sent in a 23. My GPA was a 3.9 unweighted, ( I believe my weighted was 4.2?). I only ever took the PSAT and I got a 1080 on that I think. So again not very high at all. I originally was accepted as a pre major, but shortly after was directly admitted in to the business school after they gave my application further review. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask lol !

I mean living in Ohio doesn't mean anything for getting admitted ONLY IF you are denied main campus then you are offered regional if you are an Ohio resident. But, there is a thingy where "once a buckeye always a Buckeye" thing where if you went to high school and graduated in Ohio then you're always considered an Ohio Resident for osu purposes so if that applies to you then you could still be offered regional if you are denied main!
What are social science classes?
The major social sciences are Anthropology, Archaeology, Economics, Geography, History, Law, Linguistics, Politics, Psychology and Sociology but different schools may qualify others so you can always call and ask!

Hiii! So I’m an out of state student. I live in TN and I’m actually graduating in May of this year w/ and associates so that leaves me at 60 credits. I applied last night & I’ve been looking for videos like crazy bc I’m worried I won’t get i
n. I called their admissions office & I was told for Columbus campus a competitive applicant is a 2.5 student. I’m at a 2.7 bc I struggled a lot with a class since I was trying to balance youth leading & work. I’m currently sitting at A’s & B’s so I’m sure that’ll also raise my GPA up a little more. I did specify that in all forms. Ig what I’m saying/ wondering is, does all this apply to out of state students? I know you mentioned how in state students have higher chances but I just wanted clarification on that.
So in state students only get guaranteed admission to a regional campus as an incoming freshman. But when OSU is actually looking at the applications they aren’t looking at student’s majors or in state vs out of state vs international. All of that is a blind look. THEN if you’re denied freshman they look and if you’re in state, they offer regional etc. so being out of state won’t lessen your chances of getting in!

What is are credit hours??
Each class you take is classified by credit hours because full time status is at least 12 credit hours (or 4 classes, because usually classes are 3 credit hours, but you can find some for more or less) they essentially signify how "hard" the class will be. the higher th credit hour, the harder the class.
Wait? How long do you have to live in Ohio for to be a "resident"? Also my mom and dad were both born in Ohio but We are a Military Family, so I am technically a Resident?

Out of state students can not attend a regional campus. Only in state students. And only freshman are guaranteed admission to a regional campus if denied Columbus or if they just apply to a regional. Transfer students aren’t GUARANTEED admission to a regional even if they’re in state, because that guarantee is only offered to freshman. But there is no minimum GPA for applicants to Ohio state. Students looking to transfer to OSU can apply with any GPA, however on their website it says transfer students are considered competitive with a 2.5 GPA at least. I hope that helps!!

If by ECA you mean like college credit plus classes?? Yes. I didn't take any CCP classes, only AP and still got in!

It depends, some applications you write it IN the application, if not (at least with OSU) you're able to email a PDF of your essay to admissions and they will attach it to your application. If you don't know how, Google it. If you're applying for Fall 2021 then you have (Early Action) until November 1st to submit your transcripts, so just keep bugging them, and until (Regular Decision) February 1st.
