      what's rolling admission??

    • @MyDriftingDesk
      @MyDriftingDesk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rolling Admission is the way schools may run their admissions process. Rolling Admission means that they will evaluate applications as they get them and admit students until they don't have space anymore, there may not be a real deadline involved. With OSU for example, they do not have rolling admission. They have the November 1st deadline and the February 1st deadline. After that deadline they will evaluate everyone who applied by that deadline and give decisions all around the same time. If they did rolling admission people would just apply whenever they saw fit and then they would get a decision based on availability and other criteria. I hope that makes sense!

      Hello! I replied to your OSU guaranteed admissions video regarding out of state admissions. I’ve noticed that a “essay” is being asked for but when I filled out my application, there was a small block where I was asked to explain any academic interruptions I might’ve had as well as any talents. I wrote a short summary of what is expected of me as a potential OSU student & what things I did that demonstrate leadership. In my application, I never saw a essay attachment or anything. What I’m basically saying is, I just want to know in case I have to sit & write a better detailed summary so I can email it to the admissions office before it is reviewed.

      Thanks for the help! I'm going into my freshman year in the fall, I'm just wondering if you have any general tips for the first year or two of highschool. Also, how do I find what I really love "my passion", and is that even important to know right off the bat?

    I am so glad I never had to go through the SATS or all that nonsense. In fact, my school never talked to me about college because they thought I would be dead by 17.... so when I left to the alternative high school ( juvnile deliquent center my 11th grade assumed I had no future). I ended up getting my regents diploma and going to community college and getting my associates degree. Its rare for the kids who came from that alternative school to go on to college, I actually went back and said that I was close to getting my BA... the teachers were shook that i had made it that far. I went from flunking out to getting my regents diploma and then going onto college for 8 years. I couldve given up at age 17 but I persevered.

      @@greekchick104, yah, sometimes the traditional route isn't necessary to get into college. We live in a society where women especially feel pressured to finish a degree at this age and get married at this age and blah blah.... I realized a long time ago that I needed to do this on my own accord.

      @@MyDriftingDesk, just to show you don't always need to go the traditional route. And, yes I even had professors who said i would never make it in college, but here I am doing my own thing. Still living, still thriving, and still surviving. Ive been through a lot of shit in my 27 years of life and some of those things should've killed me in retro speck, but nope..... i remember even saying to my teachers that I was going to try to pass the regents diploma because they kept shoving the GED down my throat and i was like nah, i made it this far and you guys gave up on my life and you know what i deserve more in life. In fact when i passed my regents the school psychologist at my home town public high school was pissed off that i had passed... and i just laughed hysterically at his face. And, yes, i will be hand mailing a copy of my bachelors diploma to his house ( since I know where he lives). Or, I will hand dellver it to him and tell him to suck it.

    When I was applying for college my number one question was about the number of schools I was expected to apply to. Everyone always seemed to have a different opinion, I ended up applying to 5 - 1 reach school, 2 private, and 2 public.

      I ended up only applying to two school my dream school and a safety school. Depends on you really. For me these were the only two that I could afford, had the major I wanted and had a campus that I could see myself considering it to be home.

    • @MyDriftingDesk
      @MyDriftingDesk  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The number does vary depending on where you live, what your options are, what you can afford etc. but I only applied to 2 myself, but I know people who have applied to 10 just in case! I would say a safe number would be that 3-5 range. It gives you options!

    What if I just like to do many different activities? Like a lot of people tell you not to do it for the sake of doing it, but what if you genuinely enjoy doing it even if you might not be the best? How do you make sure it doesn’t come across as doing these activities for the sake of doing it

    • @jaimeojeda4780
      @jaimeojeda4780 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try it out and if you can manage so many activities at once while also balancing school work stay with it I guess. Make sure you are actually contributing to the activity and not just showing up without doing anything.

    • @MyDriftingDesk
      @MyDriftingDesk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think if you are interested in a lot of things, GO FOR IT! As long as you can handle all of them, that's totally fine. I think the way to come across that you're not just doing them to do them is when people ask you why you do them you say why or explain why and then people will know. But also, it of course looks good to be involved :)

    How does the fee waiver application works like we won't have to pay or like how does fee waiver for college application

    • @MyDriftingDesk
      @MyDriftingDesk  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      you would select that you have an application fee waiver on the application itself and then talk to your high school guidance counselor to actually GET the application fee waiver and they would send it into your schools that you have applied to. International students can't use fee waivers at Ohio State but I'm not sure about other schools and most schools should allow you to email in the waiver like Ohio State does!

    I wholeheartedly agree with all the points you made, but ESPECIALLY about fee waivers for the applications! College applications are (or at the very least can be) HELLA expensive, so when I was able to get few waivers it literally saved me, even when I did transfer applications! My senior year of high school, I didn't have to pay a single application fee because of those waivers but for transfer applications, I only had to pay for one application fee bc that school didn't have a fee waiver.
