The rent part and eating cereal almost made me tear up because no one talks about how hard it is to survive on the minimal money we get in todays growing inflation. Props to you. We’re going to be fine.
I love this so much. We don’t talk about failure and how hard this journey is enough. I have failed so many exams on my journey to becoming a pediatrician and it is rough. I always feel so defeated after medical exams. Thanks for being you man!
Failure is part of the process. Remember that God leads us in the areas that challenge us at every level, the first one being finances. I had my car repossessed and went thru bankruptcy my first year at Dartmouth (!!). I was humiliated but I was Blessed to be recruited into a well paying job my senior year and have worked as a consultant since, bought my parents a house and plan to retire early. God provides 🙏 I just finished Mba graduate school last week, ironically in Business and finance. There's a purpose so keep on keeping on
If you read this comment, I just want to let you know that your struggles will paid off in future. I know medical school is not an easy task but you have make it this far. Congrats. If it was easy anyone can becomes a doctor. The road is long and difficult. I remember how many times I regrets about medical school. How I thought it may not be right for me but I have gone this far. I did not want to quit. It was not because I did not make the grade. It was just too much time and commitment for studying. However looking back at my medical school journey, It has been 20 years past. I look back with no regrets. If I have to do it again I would do again in a heartbeat because I love what I do. I feel emotionally content about the whole profession. I enjoy science, medicine, and helping others. It is such a rewarding profession. Also know that you are struggling now but in the future your one month of work is somebody’s yearly income. I know we are not in this profession for money but it is definitely a nice bonus. The struggle that you are going through now only shape you to be stronger and more resilient for your future. I know you will be just fine. However, knowing about your struggles makes me want to help you out with your grocery and food. Nobody should be left a starving student. That is so not fair. If you are struggling and need a little help with small donations reach out and let me know. I would glad to Zelle for groceries. Good luck in school.
This is so enlightening to watch. I'm a PA student so I can understand a lot of what you're going through. No one talks about the financial aspect of medical programs and having to live off of barely any money from loans. Congrats on making it through your first semester, and go bucks! (Coming from an OSU alum)
Thank you for being so transparent and sharing your struggles with us. Most people don’t realize the trials and tribulations medical students go through in pursuing this path and you being so open hopefully is able to spark conversations. Wishing you good luck and success with the new year!
Dude I’m so proud of your grind, you are gonna be an amazing physician because your experiences are going to help your patients persevere! Keep pushing through the struggle, god is on your side and will guide you on your journey, and continue to share your story, you got this bro!
I’m also a first year medical student in Ohio and it’s so much more difficult than I could have ever prepared for. When I first began, the novelty of being a new medical student kept me from a bad mood but now that we are halfway through it’s a lot of being miserable with the little moment of happiness that get you through it. And while it sucks, those small good moments are when I shadow my future speciality and that’s how I know this path is for me.
Our stories are so similar - 5 gap years, 4 MCAT attempts and 3 cycles for me. I also just finished my first term and had so many failures but feeling so much better now. Thanks for your vulnerability and humility - we got this!! 💪
Hi! You probably qualify for food stamps; if you haven't talked to your financial office about how to apply, I would highly recommend doing that! No one should be hungry in that way. Best of luck with the next block, you've got this!
Hey thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately in Ohio, we need to be working 20 hours a week to qualify for them. That just wouldn't be possible with my already busy schedule.
Nice man you got a new sub! I'm in my second year of community college. I ended high school with a 1.9 gpa. After 8 years of maturing and getting life experience I went back to school and I am so far a 4.0 student. Hoping to start applying to med schools next year. When you trust in God you can't go wrong. Excited to watch your journey!
Congrats Bro!! I finished my 1st term of med school as well. You're 100% correct with everything you said. This journey is difficult but absolutely amazing. Good luck on term 2! Let's get this!! Class of 2027!!
This was incredibly inspiring to hear and I truly admire your persistency and strength to endure the hard time and stay collected as possible. If I were in your shoes 100% I would have not made it without taking a break from school. You are freaking awesome man. Keep doing your thang man
Thanks for reaching out! We do 4 years of undergrad then 4 of medical school and upwards of 7 years of residency. The length of residency varies between each specialty. I hope this helps!
I’m starting med school in the fall 🫣🫣 thanks for being so real about your experiences, it feels like everyone in med school has their life together. Good luck, you got this 😁
