I just sold my Z3M roadster & replaced it with a low mileage R231 SL500 in hyacinth red with cream leather.
Not the AMG SL63 admittedly. But not much less power or performance. It's more than enough. In fact I'm in awe of it. The fact it takes an extra 200 or 300 milliseconds to reach the legal speed limit compared to the AMG is immaterial. 0 - 60 in 4.5 is fine with me.
I'm loving it to bits.
I considered an SLK55. But they're almost as expensive. A great little V8 roadster, but less car for the money. SLK55 £55k new. SL500 £85k new but only £3 or £4k more second hand for the SL. And it's an almost all aluminium engineering masterpiece

Cracking Review!
I miss our old one. I hope they have sorted the hardtop roof water issues. We only did 15k in her and water kept leaking into the boot and messing up the electrics.
Interesting how (at 2:55) the front wheel can seem to revolve slower, backwards or forward, because of the difference between the rotation of the wheel and the camera's shutter speed, in frames-per-second. Could also be seen in wagon wheels in early westerns.

I’m posting this very long time after you tested the car - but your finger was near the ABC active body control ... and I don’t recall you pushing the button or reviewing that. The car is a very comfortable sporty hard-drop-top and gives you the best of both worlds. Sporty feeling handling yet super comfortable to spend 40 hours a month in - that’s a full work week worth of time I spend in a car.
A beautiful and very capable GT...the tail light styling doesn't quite work...but nevertheless very desirable and great value....does anyone agree the rear end of the new 2022 SL looks like a Porsche 911 Cabriolet - and that isn't a compliment

Two totally different cars. I had a 2016 gts now have a 2014 sl 63 performance package .Love both .

SL's were always an East Coast thing since the first arrived in Manhattan in Hoffmanns Frank Lloyd Wright crafted glass showroom with he sold to Mercedes directly as a corporate dealership. Masculine expressions of mechanical machismo defined every SL from day one on these Manhattan streets where they were originally in demand and affordable.
Great Video! I own a 2017 550 - I would easily have owned a 450 but I want the amazing ABC suspension and finding an SL400/450 with that option is next to impossible- have to buy these as lease turn ins to take advantage of the depreciation slide. Evening finding 550's with ABC was tough- Found one in Brilliant Blue and it is well..brilliant! I love it- my one MAJOR gripe of the SL- is that on USA versions they "neuter" the back speakers!! If you play DVD-Audio you get the back speakers and sub. It sounds AWESOME but only with DVD. Pathetic on a 130-170k car. Other than that is perfect- the power is effortless (again would rather the 450 for the fuel economy) but its one of the best boulevard cruisers in a generation- after I put in like $5000 for proper back speakers and amplification.

Driving a V12 SL vs. a 6cyl at speed is like having a Venti Café Americano instead of Starbuck's Brewed decaf. It's just the full experience as intended by the creator. After that V12 get's to breathing, it's invincible past 60mph. No Tesla, no 911turbo, no AMG-GT can touch it at speed. Autobahn breeding at it's best.

An SL is a sublime car, but unfortunately the depreciation is horrendous. On the plus side that does make them a real bargain once they are roughly +8 years old.
I we are lucky maybe a eurocrat will drive by in one after we have signed over our country to brussels on the 23rd June and thank us by throwing us some cake. country for a cake fair exchange isn't it dave.
Badged as a 450 in America, badged as a 400 in the UK, uses a 3.0 litre engine. Mercedes logic FTW!

The car is still ill-proportioned with too much overhang fore-and-aft (large wheels/stance go some way to balance this but it's not enough). It's ungainly and the horizontally elongate and pinched front end doesn't work either. It's just unresolved in some key areas - odd!

Great car , but not very exciting looking . I'm surprised they don't make it more exciting for they used to fairly nice looking.

I think they've totally flopped it; the trapezium grille looks downbeat and frankly terrible, what a joke lol! *Luckily*, Mercedes still have the current newest CLK - now *that's* some car and why is it not given the same love as here??
@Mavro Yerimo No, I'm sure it will drive well (I'm not picky on the actual drive) I just want 3 things: 3 litre 6 pipe, great looks, great sound.
I don't like the grille on this at all, it looks miserable.
But the SLC is brilliant: and I have been in one, that's my favourite of these small convertible coupes

From the side and particularly the rear, it reminds me of that truly awful Lexus drop top of the naughties. Thankfully I've forgotten it's name. Both are worthy of the Al Pacino scene from the movie Heat, where he goes OTT about Charlize Theron's huge ass! :)
