I've been watching a bunch of pupusa videos and yours is the best one. I'm dying to make pupusas at home and I'm gonna follow your directions. I'm so nervous. Wish me luck!
My husband is Salvadoran 🥰 I definitely want to learn his culture more and make his comfort food. I’m a southern girl so I’m raised on fried chicken corn bread greens Mac n cheese pork chops and sweet tea. He loves it but I know there’s nothing like your home cooking. Thank you for the recipe - God Bless
@StraightUpTruthSalvadorans (Spanish: Salvadoreños), also known as Salvadorians, Salvi or Salvadoreans, are citizens of El Salvador. - I hope you have a blessed day. Make sure you start with that ❤️
I love this video. This person does this video with such patience and detail in how to make pupusas. I love it. God bless all the people that feeds others.
You don't have to make them out of pork, my wife makes them out of beef and they taste better even. You also don't need the lard, you can use vegetable oil.
I am Salvadorian and I got to say, she is pretty accurate with how she is making the pupusas. The only difference is that I cook the pork meat in a pot half way full with water and once it's cooked, I blend some tomatoes, green bell peppers, half an onion, and some garlic into a sauce to give it some more flavor and color, then I crush the meat while it has the sauce and I cook it until it is about dry. I also mix all the ingredients together for the revueltas, instead of adding them in one by one. Still, it was a good video :)
I’m Italian, first gen, & I SSSSOOOO want to make this recipe but use your technique! I love my culture’s food, but I also love the food of all cultures…& love finding the similarities & differences…with my friends too!!! 💗💗💗
9/24/23: After 10 long years, I went to a Salvadorian restaurant on yesterday and had some Pupusas. OMG, the flavor and texture brought back so many good memories. They've gotten expensive, though, $3.99 for one -- YIKES! Since I enjoy cooking a lot, I'm gonna make my own TODAY by following your recipe, and that way I can eat as many as I like. I've seen a few Pupusas recipes in the last hour or so, but I like yours the best. Thank you for sharing your technique. I can't wait...YUM!! 😋
I think it depends on the part of the world you are in. I'm in Arizona. And we love them here. I am so lucky to know Salvadoran people who will make them 💖
They are so freakin' good! Unfortunately hard to find in Australia, and i just can't make th m the same as in El Sal. The bits of cheese coming out of the pupusas as they cook, makes it extra tasty imho. Also gotta have cortido, with jalapeno. You can also put other things like grated zucchini, basil, chili etc
Latin America has a lot of great food you don't know about if you don't have access to their culture like al pastor, Mexico's greatest export second only to tequila.
I've made pupusas a few times now but am still a total newb and this is the best video so far. Not too long as to lose attention span but really comprehensive. Thank you so much! I think they will be much better next time thanks to this video.
I made these for my family tonight and they were amazing! Thank you for such a great and easy recipe to follow!!! Also I used wild hog meat my husband hunted instead of pork from the grocery store and it was great!
The best I had is in Quebec City's restaurant called La Salsas, my favorite Latin food place ever...from someone who lived almost 10 years in Costa Rica, Colombia and Honduras. Sounds like this video will motivate me to try this recipe. Muchas gracias Amor, Paz y Fuerza 💙🙏💙
Dang that’s some good hand work for the pupusas! Like a pro! I have failed so many times making them. Now I see people use oil on their hands and big balls to start.
I've seen a million different videos on how to make pupusas and this one is my favorite one. So simple to follow and its organized. I've made pupusas before but not so often so i need to rewatch a video to refresh my memory. Im so happy i came across this video. Looking forward to more
Thank you for this. I grew up with a Salvadoran best friend and her mom use to make this all the time and i absolutely loved it! This recipe came out so good!
Hola!! I miss pupusas!! My husband is Salvadoranio and I'm from Philippines... We don't have pupusas here. Your country is still in total lockdown.. Can't wait to be there.. I love your country.. And for the record, I can eat 8-10 pupusas..hahahha Sooo delicious... 😍❤️ Lots of love from Philippines!!
Yes, unfortunately we can’t go to El Salvador just yet but hopefully soon! Thank you for loving our culture! And wow that’s a lot of pupusas haha! Thanks for watching!!❤️🙏
Thank you for these recipes. I am half Salvadoran and no one was able to teach me these favorite dishes I grew up eating. Now as an adult I have a chance to enjoy them still.
My abuelita used to make nicaraguan rellenas which are literally pupusas just without the curtido. My siblings and I also love pizza so she would spread homemade pizza sauce and salami all over the rellena essentially modifying them into corn-based pizzas with chicharron fillings, cheese fillings, or both with the rellena revuelta. Ever since she's moved back to Nicaragua i've been eating pupusas non-stop, love salvadoran food, thank you 🙏
I agree with the others that your video is the best pupusas how to video. I came here to learn the proper way to make curtido, and I stayed for the entire pupusas revueltas instruction. Thank you!
I've tried making pupusas de arroz so many times and they always miss the mark. I'm now realizing, it's the texture of the filling. Thanks for this video. Love your voice.
Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge. Simple explanation. We could hear you. Did not have to listen to overpowering music. You are awesome !!!
When I was a kid there was a Salvadoran family at the markets that made papusas. We moved away when I was about 12 and have been wanting them ever since.Thank goodness for you and the internet, now I can make my own!
I shared this with my daughter and we are going to make these together along with my young granddaughters. I’m sure our pupusas won’t be as pretty as yours but it will be fun. 😁
I got a best friend and his whole family is from El Salvador and his birthday has always my favourite because his mom always made these and would always stuff my self
This recipe hit. First attempt came out alright. As I made more and more pupusas, I really got in the rhythm of shaping and keeping them intact. Some issues I had were with the cheese, idk how she got that consistency, I could not get to that point, but I won't give up. Also, I made my beans with no seasoning, big mistake, it was very bland for my family members that wanted just beans and cheese, so cook it with enough flavor to stand on its own. The curtido was perfection, it's honestly my favorite part of the meal, when I order it, and they don't give it to me I get so mad. Now I know how to make it. I did half regular vinegar and half red wine vinegar and let it soak for a good few hours. I prepped this recipe early in the day and made it for dinner. So the curtido really soaked in that vinegar and got all that flavor. I couldn't figure out how she was able to shred the cabbage like that, so I used a mandolin for that whole recipe lol. Overall, this is a good 8/10 recipe. I wish she gave a bit more information on certain parts of the recipe and how to accomplish it but I also understand she wants you to make it your own. It has become a request for tomorrow and I have quite a bit of everything left over, so will make my tweaks and hopefully my kids will give it a better scoring. Also, my middle child said the dough was bland, so I will add some salt to it and hope for the best. Thank you!
WOW! You made the chicharron, beans, curtido, cheese, salsa and flat the pupusas you are my kind girl, cook or chef right down to cook without no fuss no mass. I love it!!!!! Thank you! I can do pupusas after watching this awesome video.
Very nice demo, thank you! I love Pupusas but they are heavy in carbs so have it occasionally only. Very nice to understand all the Spanish words like Chicharron. Best Pupusas I had were in a small alley shop at Venice Beach. $2 each, delicious! When you deep fry anything like the pork pieces, the oil must be smoking hot or it will absorb into the meat and become greasy. Never use a metal tool on a Teflon pan or you will ingest bits of Teflon - unsafe. I liked your method of folding them and taking out the excess dough. Very good technique. Thanks!
Thank you! I had never heard of pupusas until yesterday! It's quite an art to make one! Not sure I will try it but I will order them in restaurants LOL thank you again
Thank you for this video I'm Guatemalan and we love pupusas but I get tiered of buying them only because in California it's a hit or miss at pupuserías. Girl you already have heads up with great southern cooking .
Skip the lard to fry the pork in, not needed, the meat itself will produce its own lard!
