Apple VESA Mount Adapter Unboxing and Install

  • This is a how-to video for installing VESA mount adapter on any 24" or 27" iMac, Cinema Display or Thunderbolt display.
WARNING: If you do not rotate your display ALL the way forward AFTER releasing the internal spring, the internal bracket will not lock into place. If the bracket is not locked into place, once you remove the stand, the bracket will retract inside the monitor, making it impossible to install the mount.

Just FYI, it IS possible once the bracket attachment gets lost inside the monitor. It took me quite a while to figure out exactly how to do it but the best way is to get a wire-hanger for hanging clothes and untangle it and hook it through one of the holes. Then you'll need to find a pretty strong person to help you pull that sucker out.

On Friday the 24th I bought the 27 inch Cinema Display (refurbished from Apple so managed to save about $150 over the $100 savings I'd have managed with Apple's Friday-only special!). My intent is to wall-mount this with a standard monitor bracket. I knew Apple sold the 100mm x 100mm adapter, but became quite concerned after reading the one user-posted comment about it not mating with the display. Your video made ALL the difference. Thanks again.

beware!! once attached and hung to a wall for several years you will ruin the torq screws making it impossible to detach and put the original stand on. those shitty tools given with the product will wear down so better use professional tools. the force that has been put on the mount is huge (especially with older heavier models) so most likely you'll end up like me with the need to drill out the screws because i'm only able to remove 2 of them and the rest are ruined and stuck so be really careful!

Great video! Lousy adapter design! I'm sure it works fine, but it looks like a horribly, bulky, expensive kludge.
Reminds me (in spirit) of the original mount for the FW iSight camera--You had to first thread the cable through a clear plastic part, then put two plastic halves with metal clips around the connector, plug it into the iSight, then insert the whole contraption into the mount. Ugh. Later they came out with an elegant, single-piece design.
Hoping for a better solution down the road.
