i have a feeling its vsync. The way the frames fluctuate around 60 makes it look like vsync
except its not, its a benchmark you can see top left that theres a mouse icon

Liam Connolly he had something like vsync on. The monitor isn't over 60hz. You can see that the fps locks in the 58-62fps framerate, I'm sure the computer can do more but the sync locks it at 60 to prevent tearing.

well they aren't killing themselves with bad PR, their shitty design is always an issue. My macbook pro (the first retina model) hinge was loose and i saw similar issue in almost all the apple forums. Also the macbook once won't turn on and a apple icare said it was liquid damage (i have never spilled anything on that $2500 thing, it was like the most expensive thing i had back then) and that motherboard and ssd needed replacement which would cost about $1000 so i gave up. Then i gave to to a trusted local repair guy he resoldered the mobo and i bought an adapter for using a 3rd party ssd like Samsung 850 evo msata drive which turned out fixing the macbook for under $100 (which is the cost of ssd) and the repair guy just told me to give $10 because he didn't do much. OMG! (That 2 years ago or something...it's my bro daily driver lap...still no prob)
To be fair Apple's MacBooks are much more reliable than any other brand.

I would never ever think about buying an imac pro. But a video from Linus tech tipps showed that they aren't that much overpriced if you pick similar retail-pc-parts. The issues are: not being able to upgrade and even do simple maintenance like getting rid of dust, which surely will have a noticeable impact on the life expectancy. (plus poor performance because of thermal issues) Apple nowadays is really garbage.
But they have shown us that the IMac cann run GTA V at 30 fps in 4k, while the gtx 1080 TI can double that
to be fair, the imac pro is not a gaming machine. GTA V is probably not a good tool for overall performance benchmark...

yeah it's way to overpriced and frankly not very good machines. I inherited a late 2013 imac from my dad last year... I use it for work, but only in memory of him. Those things just don't perform well at all, especially compared to a similar self-built windows machine. I dont get why people still buy these things like crazy...

Have you ever heard of frame cap and refresh rate? If you haven't I'll teach you. Refresh rate is the amount of times the frame refreshes per second. Imac pro has a 60hz refresh rate which means that the screen can only refresh 60 times per second. Frame cap is the amount of frames per second it's locked at. So even if you have 144hz it can still be locked at 60hz.
@@SaintAldrich Still, his argument is very valid. Let's say 3k for the hardware (and that is too much), 2k for the 60Hz refresh rate display.... Or even 1k for the display... 60Hz didn't belong in the '10's, and if you didn't notice, currently we are living in the 20's....
@@SimonLeBonbonbon True but the screen has a 5k resolution so it would be hard getting over 60 fps in some of the more demanding tasks. 120Hz or 144Hz would be nice though. I am disappointed about the build quality though.
Edit: An rtx 2080 ti doesn't even reach 120 fps in 4k in most games and that's a 1000$ dollar graphics card. Try to Imagine the performance in 5k. Rtx 2080 ti just barely reached 120 fps on Gta V in 4k.
@@SaintAldrich Totally agree with that. It would take a very powerful GPU. My last Apple was a IIc which was its time way ahead in hard- and software. Totally different era.
I can understand the frustration of the video poster and do agree with him you would expect some decent screws for that price. Personally, I would have searched for better screws myself, it is not that hard getting a screw with similar thread, especially with the original screws as an example.

Ok, I'm quite late here, but I think I know what is going on. No screw, no matter how crappy, will snap off just from unscrewing. The issue is not that they were too tight, it's that they were too LOOSE. Screws are designed to generate CLAMPING load - not to act as a structural element themselves. It's precisely because the clamping load was not enough that the connection between the stand/adapter and the mounting plate on the computer was not rigid, and was able to "work" instead. This resulted in a bending load on the screws (and possibly fatigue, if the computer was being jiggled). The screws did not break as you were unscrewing them. They were already broken, and all you did was to break the last sliver of metal that was left.
To prevent this from happening, always tighten screws with appropriate torque. You can use your feel and eyeball it. M5 and above, with about 5 millimetres of thread depth, in steel, you can probably tighten with as much torque as you can generate with a screwdriver (unless you are unusually strong). If you want to go sure, get a torque wrench or screwdriver with an appropriate range and use a torque chart to tighten to a torque recommended for this size of thread.
You can always buy your own screws. Stainless ones are not necessarily stronger than zinc-plated ones, it's rather the other way around. Just match the type of head (countersunk in this case), and you can buy higher quality ones that you can tighten even more. But the original ones are probably just fine.
Apple should provide instructions on the torque required, if it is an user-installable part, or at the very least, instruct their technicians on how to mount this properly. This is just crappy service.
By the way, if the mating surfaces are not reasonably flat and have a broad contact surface, it's just flawed design. Flawed design is a hallmark of Apple. Buy something else.

I seem to remember from a Linus video that the cost of the hardware is not far off if you bought the components yourself and put it together. I would rather do that tho, and have COMPLETE control of my computer, know how it works, fix it easily when something goes wrong etc. But what apple does, is to put state of the art hardware basically into laptop cases. This is so wrong in so many ways when it comes to reliability and stability. I own a high end music studio computer that I built myself (well, it was top of the line when I bought the components some years ago). The power that computer eats have me put the computer in a sound insulated cabinet with large silent fans. That wasn't enough, so I had to put the computer outside the studio area and run cables into the mixing room. It is relatively noisy, but does it break down? Not ONE single time have I had to made repairs on it. Every component inside it was chosen to specifically work with my audio hardware and software, and it runs on full power - ALL the time because it needs to.
If I was using that closed in shit - it would throttle on me faster than I could open the project files and start working.
the idea that buying the parts and putting them together at the same price is a complete lie, the components in 'low end' apple stuff are complete garbage that cost 4 times as much as buying them standalone.
Just to be clear - I'm not saying one should try to put together a mac :). Also, I am talking about the iMac pro which hasn't got lowend hardware at all. It's actually pretty good hardware - but the way they implemented it into the case etc - total waste of perfectly good hardware.
I decided to calculate how much it would cost to buy the iMac Pro parts separately here's what I got.
8 core xeon: £1,059.98
radeon vega 56: £399.98
32gb 2666mHz DDR4: £249.49
1TB SSD: £171.59
5120x2880 monitor: £863.99
Total £2744.93 iMac price on uk store:£4,899.00
I know I didn't include motherboard etc but those few parts aren't gonna add an extra £2000

Hello. I’m just blown away. I have an iMac Pro myself and while I love it and while it’s a heck of a machine, I completely agree with you that the vesa mount is a horrible design. I’ve had my iMac Pro on an arm for about a year now. Today I was rearranging some things on my desk to eliminate hardware and free up space so that I can put the OEM stand back on. During this process, once I got the vesa adapter off and started to put the stand back on, the screws just flat out broke once I put the card in, heard the latch click, started to lift up the stand to its original position (even though it was moving smoothly), and “snap” goes all the screws. I now have an unusable computer until I can find a place that sells those exact screws. Yes I was being careful and going slowly, but even though I did everything exactly right, it’s still a horrible design. I’m gonna see what apple says, now that I can text back and forth with them. Pls let me know if you have any thoughts or suggestions about how I can obtain a whole bunch of those screws just in case this keeps happening. I’m sorry that happened to you. I didn’t have any damage to the stand, but the iMac Pro is nicked in the same places where you showed in the video. Unbelievable 🙄

I don't need OSX or iOS for anything. I use software that is available for both Windows and OSX now. The only thing Apple has that keeps people on the platform is Logic. Final Cut got dumbed down and lost them a lot of users.

Complete sympathy! Just last week I had to take off a base because my iMac was delivered by a heavy headed ape! I took the logic board off, the power board, and cut all the foil tape to get at all the screws, I though that normal until I found out on a forum that I needn't have even opened the iMac because of the credit card trick! It sorta made sense that Apple wouldn't design two different hinges, one for the Vesa mount, and another for the base! But when I put the base back carefully i used a torque wrench set at 2Nm and even that was too much for the poor quality (zinc screws?) Two of the T10 screws broke off at the crown! Luckily I had a very small octo-socket drill head that could grip the remaining 1/4" sticking out! Yes, I replaced all the torq screws with ordinary steel ones so that will not happen again! Not doing this with Apple, after hearing your adventure! Well kept secret, that credit card trick!
I'm not an Apple hater like some here in the comments. Indeed, I've been a Mac fan since my 128k in 1984. I've even owned AAPL since 1999, never having sold a single share. But despite that, your video pissed me off. No, not at you. At Apple. This is totally inexcusable and even though I don't even own an iMac Pro I intend to let Apple know my displeasure about their inadequate product quality and ill-trained staff via their feedback page. I think every Apple fan should be obligated to do the same to ensure that Tim Cook starts to take his own "I LOVE the Mac" sentiments seriously. Actions speak louder than words.

Ahh I love Australian consume law. Here, as a customer, your warranty is not with the manufacturer, its with the supplier, the company that SUPPLIED YOU with the product. If someone else made it, that's their problem not yours.

I only complaint for this video is, I believe no matter if you buy pro or an iPhone 1, you deserve customer service. Personally from all I know, I would never buy an apple product. I'm sure every other company has issue but apple just irks me.

The question I'd be asking what did they do to it to cause that much damage to it?
They did a number on my iMac too. Power supply blew out, taking logic board with it. I took it in for AppleCare service, and admitted I didn't have a current backup. They promised to save my data if at all possible. They returned it a week later, saying it was fixed. I tried to boot it, but got black screen every time. Booted into Recovery, but can't use Restore to clone the drive. Apple says, all we can do is wipe the drive and reinstall, your data is gone.
So I took the iMac to a data recovery service. They ran a single command with dskutil, and found the SSD portion of the Fusion drive was not responding.
So I took the iMac back to Apple. They opened it up, and found they'd reassembled the iMac without installing the Fusion drive's SSD. They'd left my SSD -- half the Fusion drive -- on the now-recycled logic board, and threw it in the trash. I asked if they could look for it. "It's already ground up by now."
and then what? did you get a replacement? can you ask them for compensation?
@@keselekbakiak they told me I had to give them the 2 TB drive so they can fix the Mac. But I'm planning to send the drive to Drive Savers to see if they can get my data. That'll cost me $800-$2000 from what I've read.
After an appeal to a manager, Apple agreed to install a new 2 TB drive to get the iMac working. I'm not going to ask them yet to pay for the data recovery, as there's no charge if the recovery fails. If it succeeds, I'll see what my options are. I know they disclaim responsibility for data loss, but I don't know if that holds up in the case of straight-up negligence.
I should get the iMac back this week, but the verdict on the recovery drive won't be in for a while.

@@hotcrispysausageroll3105 I sent the drive to Drive Savers. The trashed SSD means even they can't get the data. And they certainly would if they could -- the bill was going to be about $2600 (no charge though since nothing was recovered).
So I took the iMac back to Apple to reassemble. They returned it, "It's fixed. Sorry for the trouble." Now leery, I booted it in the store, verified the right processor and RAM, all good. Shut it down, took it home.
Plugged it in. As long as it works... I booted, no problem, start reconfiguring the machine. Plug in the USB-C cable for my backup drive. Wait, it won't go in. Try the other slot. No. Try a different cable. No. Flashlight says... logic board is installed slightly off center so the ports don't line up with the hole in the case. And all this is right near a new dent on the case...
Back to the apple store. They took it in back, came out and told me "we can fix the ports right now but we'll have to order in case parts to fix that. You'll have to bring it back in a few weeks and let us keep it then for a day or two. Umm, you'll want to back up your data." Yeah, that was my plan...
I sat a total of 45 minutes and a tech walks out, "Good news! This is your new iMac!" He said they decided to replace rather than repair. That's fine, I said. Is it the same spec? We looked, same processor, same model, same RAM. Wait, are we sure? I had 40 GB of RAM in there (32 GB was aftermarket).
They'd left the RAM in the old machine, which was on the way to the woodchipper. He ran back, rescued it, put it in the new machine, and we rebooted. I installed my account, and all looks ok for now.
I have no issue with how nice and sympathetic they were. I ended up with a new machine and a brand new AppleCare warranty starting yesterday. I scored a new power cable that came with the new machine, as well as a new keyboard and mouse. Given the initial mistakes, not sure what else they could have done.
But those initial mistakes... let's just say I will be VERY cautious about trusting apple service, and I've learned my lesson about keeping a current backup.
Apple: "If any teenager can fix a PC, how hard can this be? ... Oops! Sorry for destroying your work and wasting your time."
Apple lover: "I'll forgive anything as long as you don't scratch my Apple logo."

I never in my life had any screw breaking as I was screwing them in, even the cheapest shits ever made. The most common with cheap ones is that the screw head gets worn so the screw driver won't be able to spin it anymore.
I never had Apple products and I'll never purchase anything from them. To me ANY of their products seem overpriced from a mile away and some of them feel really cheap. I don't understand why there's so much fuss about Apple products.

The only things they're 'good' at is having hardware that's been cherry picked. Not because it benefits the consumer in terms of performance, but because they have to cherry pick it to accommodate for their awful design decisions that only allow for sub par cooling solutions.
The OS is also pretty well made on an efficiency and stability level.
But these things make it an amazing computer for day to day office work, which really isn't worth the price.

Zero computer have been made that are perfect like you think. Tbh I've had more major issues with pc based computers than Apple machines. If you do; theres a difference between paying more than it cost to make it, and paying more for a product that gets outperformed by cheaper products in most if not all departments. 300 dollar pc vs 400 dollar console, the pc will outperform the console in pretty much everything. 800 dollar homebuilt pc vs 1500 dollar imac pc and youll see the homebuilt beats it every time. Not only does it run faster and is way more durable, you can also repair it yourself if you ever need to.
Edit: its not about being perfect, or opinions. Its about hard facts shown by benchmarks and based on physics, the way hardware works and build quality. The only redeeming thing about apple products is that the iOS is very efficient
But that doesnt make up for its lack of user control and bad usability.
Also, you can walk into most if not all tech repair stores with a pc. Even some normal tech stores like mediamarkt

If something like that happens again, bring it to a hobby machinist, they'll have you sorted in no time. Also, the screws were probably manufactured properly but weren't designed to hold at only 5 points and the vesa mount might also cause greater sheer stress on the screws
I know what your talking about. I made my own out of aircraft aluminum, and just ordered Japan grade stainless steel screws. I sourced screws directly from a screw manufacturer, and they only offered in lots of 50 or 100 minimum. But price was like 5 bucks for 50.
