My videos are a bit mixed up this week. If you watched my livestream you know we just got a new puppy so my life is topsy turvy. I hope you enjoy these fast and easy ways to use up those left over strips at the end of your quilt project. They can even be combined together. Have a great week.
Sort of Newbie here, I really like @ 6:20. Thanks for always making it all seem doable, even for nervous newbies like me. 🙂. Hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend.
I have just started quilting after a few years of making toys and clothes, and I have to say your videos are amazing!! Such great advice, perfect amount of detail and so happy and positive! Thank you!!
Karen… you are tops, bar none. Your tutorials move at the perfect tempo and you’re a stellar inspirational instructor. Natural, humorous, and you tell like it is. Have been watching your channel to catch up… ❤
37 years ago I made my first quilt. I took my sisters to an alley where a garment factory used to throw away fabric scraps. The quilt was hideous, but I had a blast doing it. I enjoyed using the quilt for the longest time. I wish I could go back dumpster diving for scraps again.
"Embrace the Wonk if it goes Wonky" Best advice Ever! I love your videos! Such great, Useful and Practical tips and advice!! I vote Karen Brown as Chief of the Quilt Police!! 😀
Brilliant! So many easy-to-do blocks in only 8 minutes. Great tip to make some blocks when you're done with a quilt because it gives you a head start on making another quilt and the task of the "leftover strips" quilt seems less daunting. Btw, I love your graphics. The visual is so easy to follow and you don't take up a lot of time showing us the steps. The pace of your videos is great; some are too slow, but when you zip right through, it keeps my interest, and I can pause it when I need you to slow down so I can do what you're doing.
I’m not the best sewer but I do love creating quilts. My seams were ‘irregular’ at times but THE LEDGE really works. It’s made keeping even seams so much easier! Thanks so much for that tip from another video. I’ll pass that tip on to friends of mine who also sew. It’s easy, cheap and brilliant ( at least for this wannabe). 😀
When I first moved to the Island I joined the Parksville Quilt Guild and vividly remember a Trunk show of a Member’s Scrappy quilts. They were simply stunning! But how to make one myself was beyond me. 20 years and dozens of baby quilts later I had a huge tub of left over flannel. So I simply started sewing and learned a lesson carved in stone! Leftovers organically reproduce in the quiet of the night! As fast as I did a scrappy quilt the pile never seemed to reduce in size. The quilts gradually improved as I concentrated on Value rather than colour and I also revised my thinking these quilts were of reduced worth as they were “just leftovers”. The Scrappy quilt became my to go to quilt when there was a person in need of comfort and now I spend equal time on “new” quilts and those satisfying Scrappy ones. I’m eternally grateful for this video for more ways to use up the leftovers make stunning quilts. Keep the Tips, Tricks & Strategies coming!
Mix your videos up as much like...🙃it doesnt matter...I learn something new in every one of them,no matter what the topic is !thank you so much Karen 💕
And....saved! Love these block ideas. I don’t buy jelly rolls but do have random strips. I tell my husband that I’m going to quilt with my new best friend Karen and head off to my sewing room 😄
I love doing more intricate patterns, but boy there are days when all you want is something simple and easy, and just to play with the fabric. These all seem perfect for that. Thanks!
I love your upbeat and helpful tutorials. I have found your scrap block videos especially fun.! Thank you so much for the way to keep organized in the sewing room. I'm still working on this as I have almost finished my plans for quilts for family and friends back in 2015. Only have 9 tops left to bat and back. Arthritis has begun causing problems with being able to cut and sew, so, I may just make bigger sampler blocks ( 10") once the the quilts are done. These strip blocks are great! May God bless you and your family.
Look at you, Karen... Toronto gal made good - you’re up to 242K subscribers. Congratulations!!! Guess you’d better start planning your party 🎉 for 250K. That’s a Quarter of a Million people subscribed to your channel. You are a quilting Rock Star!!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ~Diana K (a big fan)
I am about ready to start my first quilt. I have spent weeks watching your videos. I cannot thank you enough for the education and free patterns. Now the decision of determining the pattern for my first quilt!
Good Morning, whata way to start my morning after meditation/prayer time. I love every video you share with your yt family and the clear instructions. Blessings and Grace be with you
I'm a complete newbie at 50, and I loved your "how to cut straight" video--though I still struggle a little. And this video is great inspiration! And an excuse to buy more fabric! :D
Also, thank you for using many different colorways for your digital examples. Those of us still new to using our imaginations with fabric appreciate the help!
These are such simple blocks but so wonderful and look great in a quilt. Such perfect blocks for charity quilts. Thank you for showing us these very cool blocks.
You so cheer me up with my growing Mt Stashmoure. I soon plan my first ever quilt with leftover of sewing childrens clothes from old clothes (no straight edges) I love your positive way of talking and it gibes me al lot of strength these days Love from Germany
This is super! I took the clutter challenge and got my sewing room organized. And then a week or so ago I just spent a couple of days organizing my scraps and now I have two big piles of 2 1/2 inch strips. I am already to utilize this video and make some thing fun! The only thing that I have left to do in my sewing room is deal with the batting scraps. I am turning my 1- 1-1/2” strips into rope and saving my strings to bring on vacation to sew to interfacing and a roll of linen I have. I did buy the Robert Kaufman linen fabric and it is beautiful!! I hope to utilize my scrappy squares with that and make some placemats. Thanks for all of your useful ideas! And May the puppy bring you great joy this year!!😁
@@rachelburgener819 don’t know what happened to my reply but I’ll try again: I am making rope with the 1-1/2 inch-ish (giveor take) strips which I learned from the video below. It’s fun and I feel I’m doing something useful as I sit with my husband whether he is watching tv or we r sitting outside etc. there are probably other uses, but the video discusses trivets and placemats that you can make and they look really pretty and unusual and one of a kind LOL. Look up the TH-cam video of lorrie nunemaker “how to make fabric twine /rope”. I don’t know how to attach it here from my phone :)
Hi Karen! I’m Karen Smith, I just love your videos. I have recently started piecing and quilting. I have watched soooo many of your videos for guidance and ideas. Thank you!
thankyou so much for all your tips and tricks, you are such a GREAT teacher!!! Enjoy your new addition (puppy) to the family, they can be such great joy and stress release. Take care Lisa xx
I recently indulged in jelly rolls (binge!) I opened all of them and they fill a laundry basket. I bought 4 solids. I can run my fingers thru my strips! The rainbow of solids are so pretty. I like the way you make a few blocks and bag them. I get discouraged if I don’t have time to make a whole bunch of blocks. Good patterns. Thanx
So many blocks Karen, so little time. These are some of my fav videos. I love 2.5 inch strips. You are making me a big block fan. Easy Peasy. Thank you so much for sharing your ingenuity. You’re so giving.
Karen! Thank you so very much for offering the tea mug and travel cup. I am so very excited. I ordered both. It was easy for me to do using PayPal. Thanks again.
Wow my head is spinning! What great ideas. Thanks Karen. I learn so much from you in a short time. Will watch this a few times. Hope you are enjoying your new puppy.
Thank you for this video. I'm newish to quilting and I currently use jelly rolls to quilt with. I'm a clothing/doll clothes/toys sewer so THIS is challenging at times for me. BUT you make it all seem so easy. Bless you ❤️
Simply love your videos, sometimes you just want something simple to do and I always go to you for good advice - thanks for all that you do and keep the videos flowing for us all in the UK

What a breath of fresh air this video was for me! I'm a beginner and in my search for doable patterns, I get completely lost in the forest of information. Thank you so much for this fantastic informative tutorial! Enjoy your new puppy!
Perfect timing! I realized on Saturday that I don't have quite enough of a backing material so I need to add length to it. Some of these blocks styles will be a perfect use of my leftover strips from the top to expand the back.
I have lots of jelly rolls and scraps that I really need to sit down and do something with. Just need to force myself to get started. Thank you again for some great tips and ideas.
Thank You, Karen! "Embrace the wonky" is my new mantra. Love all of these block ideas and look forward to using them as I whittle my store-bought stash of strips and build up my original block prints on fabric. Best regards!
thank you Karen! Going to my first chapter sew day in , well...feels like FOREVER! , next week. I think I will peruse the jelly roll drawer and pick one out....
oh wow! I love the simple cuts, etc. I have leftover but enough for those. And also I bought jellyrolls, and was not too sure what I can do about this. That is most brilliant idea!! Thank you for the pattern handout!!
Thanks for this! I tend to get stuck thinking I have to have a plan when I'm making blocks. This seems so relaxing and I feel like in the end you will end up with a unique one of a kind quilt!
You are amazing! Just the video I needed to keep my new passion going. I learned how to quilt last September and have not been ready to do another lap quilt or bigger. Thanks for the inspiration and wonderful instruction to "Get it Done"! Going to the sewing machine now!
I am so glad I found you! Our brains work exactly the same. Your tutorial on cutting straight has been so helpful.
