- I got some hands on time with Anthem at EA Play, so let's do a crash course on some stuff that we learned about Anthem and some quick thoughts on what I thought on the time I had with the game, which was not very long.
If I were to sum up my thoughts into a couple of sentences, it would be: It was better than I was expecting it to be. I don't think anything really blew me away, but I had fun with what I got to play and look forward to the next time I get to play it and learn more about the game. It played a lot better than the on stage demo made it seem like it did. If you're new here, maybe because of this video, sorry, I'm very long winded in my videos.

EA/Bioware saw your disappointment with Destiny 2 and realized what an opportunity for them it would be if you were to influence people into going for Anthem next year?
Edit: Might need to spell this out to avoid misunderstandings, but I don't mean to offend you with the question. It just strikes me as peculiar that you are the one doing an Anthem video, specially since I've played through the entire "Mass Effect: Andromeda" fiasco situation, so I know how desperate Bioware is with this new IP.

There was no story in this. Here is some bad guys, go fight them. Looks fun, but was a very boring E3 showing. Cayde dying, now that is a heartbreaker.

I think no pvp will be huge in the power fantasy factor. I’m excited about that.
It looks like it's more akin to Borderlands than Destiny, especially since it's PvE-only.
Jacob Kern I think it has a warframe feel, but i haven’t played Borderlands so I wouldn’t know
But even in borderlands there are duels
Yeah, this game definitely looks like its more on the rpg side of things like borderlands compared to Destiny, which is a pro imo since Destiny 2 currently really lacks any depth
feels way to slow to be warframe like though
Warframe eventually becomes "Press 2 buttons and see how half the map dies" and has way faster movement

No PvP? BLESS. And if there is PvP, I hope nothing is locked to that mode, no guns or armor or anything. And if thsi ends up doing PvP, I pray that Borderlands 3 doesn't and just keeps it to the old mini 1v1. Finally, let's get some good ass PvE looter shooters in here.
MidnightChampion yup. Bungie catering to pvp players is single handedly responsible for the flop destiny 2 ended up being. Skill trees, the weapon system, and the boring guns were all intentional design decisions made to make the pvp easier to balance.
TheTinyTimmyTimTim they didn’t cater to PvP, the PvP is shit too. They tried to make the PvP balanced, rather than fun.
Iamishin yea, which is catering to pvp lol. They listened to everyone screaming about “THIS GUN IS OP BLAH BLAH BLAH” and “WOW ITS SO UNBALANCED, THIS SUPERS OP, THE GRENADES ARE OP”. Their response to them was to make everything “meh” in the name of balance.

Rustyburnz I know what you’re saying, but the Destiny crowd is a devoted one, almost to a fault, regardless of new trailers or info.... I know, I use to be one of them lol. Sucks that if you watch a streamer who maybe got popular on Destiny stream other games it seems like 80% of the chat is basically “Destiny when” or “this isn’t Destiny.” It’s inevitable to some extent, I guess. Not shitting on the game or community, it’s not for me anymore but a lot of people still enjoy it obviously. I feel for the streamers and content creators sometimes though.
eh honestly as interesting this is, albeit being a weaker ironman, it's still EA and Bioware, especially with everything that has happened so far in between it's first announcement and now, there's a good cause for concern

Every time I hear someone talk about their impressions of this game from the E3 demo, I get a little more skeptical. It doesn't seem like you or Arrekz were absolutely blown away from what you experienced. I hope they really sell us in the next 8 months, I want to trust that this won't disappoint us badly.
I wasn't completely blown away, but that's because there's only so many things a looter shooter game can do to make people go crazy. I was happy with what I played though, it was competent, I had fun with it. I think the biggest thing is gonna be fatigue with a lot of people. The Destiny crowd is always looking for the next looter shooter, but always come back. Can Anthem make enough of an impact with their game, can they make it feel different enough compared to other games in the genre? Time will tell. But that will be the key.
it's still EA and Bioware, so it's better to take the wait and see approach than to buy into the hype people are building

Are you someone who still plays desitiny? If the answer is yes then being disappointed by a game and what the devs screw up in it should have no effect on your opinion of the game considering all the let downs and disappointments that destiny has brought us.

Cool I hope he is. Awesome character but there needs to be some consequences for once. With that said they should've saved killing him for the actual game but whatever I'm still going to give them my money.

This game looks awesome, I just hope the setting & lore sucks me in like Destiny has. Also I’m super excited for Dying Light 2, Cyberpunk2077, RE2 & obviously Forsaken lol

My friends and I are really excited about what Anthem is at least trying to be but were nervous about the gunplay considering Mass Effect wasn't exactly known for it's shooting

oh please just let the enemies glow based on the combo they're primed for like Mass Effect rather than printing "COMBO!" and the damage value like it's a damn 2D arcade fighter.
I hope Anthem and Destiny can coexist. I think they are similar enough to attract a similar audience but different enough to be their own experiences. I hope that the games will coexist, compete and result in better content for everyone. Maybe some competition in the Sci-Fi Looter Shooter market will light a fire under Bungie's ass and make them really double down on making the game even better, plus Anthem looks cool so that means another looter shooter to enjoy when it drops.

The game engine means it takes so long to make content compared to other devs, its like a boxing match and Bungie has both hands tied behind its back lol

I’m kind of happy they don’t have pvp on release, or any real plans for it. Just make a fun looter shooter where we can go completely insane on power.
I'd love a borderlands like duel. Where while you wait for a friend for a bathroom break or crying baby you can 1v1 your buddy for kicks and giggles. Nothing serious nothing lengthy

Don't worry, he'll be "dead" for all of the first 2 missions, tops. Then he'll magically be alive again and cracking jokes for the the next 2 missions, which will be the last story missions in the expansion.

Cool stuff, I want some more story stuff to go along with this. One of the reasons I got into the Destiny Hype was the slow trickle of info on the story and enemies. I remember reading info on the collapse and the Traveler and being genuinely intrigued to know more. It would be wise of them to start working in the reason we fighting more going forward.

Tez Pool, you feel that way cause you’ve only played destiny, which is split between pvp and pve. Games with only one usually do very well. Like Skyrim or (most of) the Mass Effect series.

yesss i care more about where im shooting then i am about the damage.. it looks too cartoony for a bad ass game like this.
Don't know if you've noticed, but things like HUD including damage numbers are almost always different at E3 in comparison to the final release.
In the words of Phil from flex tape: “that’s a lot o damage”... the big numbers were tilting me pretty hard though
Death By Snu Snu you can toggle them on and off. A Dev confirmed this. They said the feature to toggle on and off damage numbers isn’t currently available but they are actively looking into making that a thing. Long story short, you can toggle it on and off

how do the guns feel? i absolutely loved playing the me3 multiplayer, but i almost exclusively focused on abilities because i just didnt enjoy how their guns felt. im hoping that anthems are better but if their abilities are just as good as me3s then ill be satisfied lol.

It's the evolution of ME, And ME3 and Andromeda had the best gameplay then both of those titles. Warframes flaw is the fire fights, in my opinion.

i love how objective you seem to keep this. you just tell us the facts straight up at the start. when you do voice your opinion, you justify it and it's not over the top. great video. Also, yay for anthem. Sure, it could go wrong, and EA does kinda suck, but what we've seen so far seems pretty damn good to me.
Seems like some positive stuff here. Between weapon slots, ability slots, and each javelin's individual stats, we could be looking at a pretty solid game as far as depth of customization. If javelins have really specific stats that can be altered or upgraded in some way, or if pilots have stats that can be upgraded, I will be immensely happy.

Ive been watching out for this game since its initial announcement and i was sold as soon as i saw it, i wasnt too worried at all and glad to see many peoples worries relieved since e3. I was already going to buy the game, but now that i hear there are sniper rifles, im going to preorder

So being a pilot in the Javelins is kinda like being Tony Stark flying his favourite Iron Man suit
I'm pretty sure they confirmed that you can matchmake for everything including strongholds. The quote was in response to a concern about having nobody to play with. They said something to the effect of, "There's matchmaking. We'll always fill your squad for you if you need it."
Okay, I’m not in tune with anything Anthem due to not wanting to be hyped nor wanting to give it any expectations. I want to give it a benefit of the doubt. Will it be good? Will it be bad. Who knows.
I do, however, have questions about the Javelins. I’m pretty sure you might have already said so but, is it giving you the chance to select your suit? Or is it “use this one until x destination in the game”? At 10:14 is that suit the Ranger? If so, I think I might make that my main suit! (Edit) it is not, went around to see what is what. Nope, storm or interceptor are gonna be my calls.
