Hi Joe, I’m 56 years old and I can’t handle the heat and the direct sun like I used to, but I have found out some things that help me deal with the heat better. I wear a wide brimmed hat that has ventilation at the top of the hat to let the heat and perspiration out and the wide brim to keep the sun off my face and neck. I wear a light colored long sleeve shirt that’s made of material that lets the sweat evaporate and allows air to circulate and keep me cool. I wear the Under Armor brand of shirts and there are other companies that make them . The most important tip is to drink lots of water the night before and in the morning before work and keep on drinking water during work and mix it up with a sports drink that’s high in electrolytes and stay away from soda and alcohol until your work day is over and you are out of the heat. We usually don’t have much of a spring here in Arkansas. Goes from cold to 90 in about 2 weeks. We are forecast to have 90s all week. Hits 90 about 10:30 in the morning, so we are starting our days at 5:30 am.
Things are looking great & I seen you are using some of the spoils for kindling but you mentioned in the heat of the day you feel it, my suggestion to you is maybe consider a pop up canopy, shading your work area. Happy Splitting 🪓
Hey Joe!! Love the intro with a view of your yard. You have a beautiful setup. I don’t get bored anymore since I got noise canceling headphones. Lots of great podcasts, books, and music to keep us entertained. I also like the idea that my wife/friends can contact me via text and phone.
We use a patio umbrella on our vertical splitter held on by 2 ratchet straps easy to rig up an works great just remember to crank the umbrella down at the end of the day add a fan an you will have it made in the shade

Morning Joe, I hear ya about the unusual warm weather, you just have to plan your day accordingly like you are. Cherry can get a little squirrelly from time to time.

I know the feeling Joe. Here at home i don't like running the lawnmower before 10am let alone the splitter so at about 6pm i will run the saws and splitter till dark all just to avoid the heat..😁👍

Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I always get hot and bothered while splitting in our temperare climate so I have experimented with various fan setups over the years. At present I am using an old kitchen extractor fan clamped to my splitter and it's the best solution yet. Perhaps your power pack could run a similar solution for you that will keep you calm, cool and collected - just like James Bond!
Hitting those 90's here in North Idaho as well. It's not that I'm not ready for it, it's that I just plain hate it.
I used to split with the "Axes" also. 😀 I had 2 and had to keep them good and sharp! Talk about getting dizzy on those hot and very humid days! 😰 😖 Have a Great Sunday

Stay hydrated over there. Chris from in the wood yard got me to buy some them mission cooling hats. Man do they help. About every thirty min put some more cold water on them. Keep up the good work.
Loved it Joe. Got a suggestion, you are wearing a dark shirt, in summer, wear white. 50+ years in ranching and construction I know the difference it can make. Just need to make shirts in white with your logo on them.
Joe I feel your pain. I can't take the heat like I used too. It's been hot and dry here too. It's been 15 day since we've had any rain and none in site. Stay safe my friend.
