Greetings from New Zealand! Really enjoying your vids but jealous at the same time! We own a 10 acre block in the west of Auckland, NZ's largest city. Normally have more than enough windfall on the farm to keep me in fire wood and thought I was going to have enough for the next five years a few months ago. In early Feb we got hit by a Tropical Cyclone and I suspect but cannot prove, a small twister, judging by some of the damage. We lost around 50 trees, from saplings through to a couple of 40ft Black Wattles (Australian hardwood) a 55ft Kanuka (NZ Hardwood, similar to Ti Tree) and a 65ft+ Old Man Pine! I've started to clean them up, but in the process (unbeknown to me at the time) have torn the meniscus in my left knee and a rotator cuff in my shoulder. So cannot use the chainsaw or splitter and as the property is quite steep and clay, no way that I can gather the wood! Have had to buy some in - very frustrating!

Trust me I know. It is good to see another quality piece of workmanship in the same price range is the Ultra.
I know there may be other splitters to compare to these two, but I have not seen them. Everything else it way higher or can be found at HD or Lowe's.
That is a massive jump up or down compared to Ultra and Semi-Pro.

A nice score removing the trees for a farmer and getting the wood. I've gotten wood by asking when I see it laying in someone's roadside yard from the highway dept. cutting trees. Often, the owner tells me someone else wanted it but never showed up. When given permission I return promptly. I tell them when I'll be back for it and I'm there when expected.

    Just a few thoughts.
    Pop Up Tent. Checked.
The levers. You have to reach over the first lever to get to the one you use alk the time. Can the hydrsulic lines be flipped so the first lever operates the ram.
The levers have wiggle room to shorten. Could they be shortened and rethreaded so your deltoid is not taking a pounding. Or reconfigure the pipe with a few nipples and 90s to lower the handle.
Also, a kiddie pool for the pup to cool off in during the hot spells. i have them at my place. I retrofitted two shut off valves to drain the pool. I connect a garden hose and use the pool water for the flowers.

I put up one yesterday. Got it for 70 dollars at Farm and Fleet. I had two 85 year old ash trees that shaded the house and garage from sun up to sun down.
Now my pop up is a new variety of ash tree.
I looked around and thought about how much money I would feel comfortable spending if I got one year of service.
If I use it seven months, taking the cloth off for storms, that is ten dollars a month.
When the fabric rips, I will use the remains as a pattern and use the tarp stuff that goes on garbage dumpsters to make a new one.
Last year I bought an expensive one. it held up good in the rain. we had a surprise snow rain mix. The fabric was beyond salvage. The frame is still good.

The wood looks more torn than split to me.

    • @InTheWoodyard

Fence line trees are usually full of limbs so the splits are not like straight grained clear logs are. So yes there is some tearing and shearing of the rounds.
