    Congratulations Joe! Get Log Hauler Jesse’s ideas on the layout of the yard. As your friend, a truck driver and a person that has seen many, many yards he will have great ideas.

    Go Joe. Grow and Prosper. I am looking for a woodyard, myself. In my area there are few places to buy firewood. There was an old man in the area that sold wood and he passed, so I am told. We are going for bundles and regular firewood. Best of luck and I know you will be very happy with your new wood yard. Go, Grow Joe.

    As a truck driver, I'd suggest making it a drive-through for the log trucks. They will love you

  • @section8374

    Joe, built a circle driveway for the log trucks. Here ,on my ranch, I get product moved before others, because, semis can pull in, load, pull out very easily. These loads are 105,000#, 4 season access. Once the truckers know your set up correctly, they will want to go to your place first, that's how it works here, they have told me so.

    Good going, because it's commercial and you can let trucks have 24 hour access that's great flexibility for the trucker and from the looks of everything you'll have a very organized yard. Good luck.

    Congratulations! It's a big step, but, IMHO, the right one. Of course, you will outgrow the little Bobcat tractor and need to get either a skid steer or small wheel loader. And then, of course a bigger processor and perhaps a more automated stacking system. Small steps keep getting bigger! Looking forward to seeing you grow. An old time logger and firewood guy from Colorado, started life near Hinckley, Ohio, not too far from you. Oh yeah, if you wait until mid June I hope to be back in your country to help my aunt celebrate her 101st birthday!

    G'day Joe, Don't forget about the two dump trailers, as soon as I saw that igloo I thought he's pulled the trigger on the yard he's been talking about and I immediately imagined it full of logs and processed firewood, never let a chance go by I always say. You could have a separate small yard with street access for bundled wood that would allow you to sell high value high volume small units unattended I think it's a win win 👍.

    Hi Joe - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I'm delighted with your news. My first thought was tge security risk for your equipment but you're already on the case in that regard. I agree with you about the risk to your splits. The same point was made to me about my stock of exposed firewood but my retort was that thieves over here look for easier pickings and wouldn't spend the energy nicking it.

    @danahasson2892 ปีที่แล้ว

    Congratulations Joe on the new location one suggestion I could give you is use 20' storage containers over the 40 or 53' containers and the reason why is the longer containers the back half end up becoming long term storage and is hard to get supplies and equipment out of. I started with a 53' container at my site for my tree care and landscape business and ended up getting rid of it and I run 4 20' containers now to store equipment in.

  • @AroundTheYard-MN
    @AroundTheYard-MN ปีที่แล้ว

    Congratulations Joe! This will add opportunities for your business to grow, I have no doubt about it. I was following what you were talking about on your lay out of the yard. If it were me, I would go with 2 gates (entrance / exit) so your log trucks don’t have to back up. By having a loop, the log trucks could enter and unload to the far side of the yard (closest to the highway) and then leave on a circle drive. By having the logs on the perimeter it would allow you several stacks, possibly one for each species of wood (Oak, Maple, Hickory, Beach, Ash, etc). Use Log Hauler Jesse’s truck to figure out your drive aisle and turning radius, and try to plan for a bigger truck someday. Use the middle (in between the entrances) as your #1 stacking yard. A second stacking yard could be located on the SW corner, backing up to a process station for the Axis and trailer parking beyond. The Japa 405 could be set to the NW of the hoop house with the live deck closest to the hoop house. In this orientation you’d be backing trailers up to the conveyor, but you could maximize your usable area. Just a thought though. When I work on projects similar to this I like to take an arial snap shot and then color code / draw over the top using my iPad, this gives me a good visual of what its going to take. After I am satisfied with the layout I use CAD or hand draw it to scale and confirm it works for me or my client. I would be happy to go over your layout in greater detail, in the mean time enjoy your day Around the Yard! - Brent

    There is a lot of pros and cons here with this set up. Unless this is very secure it’s probably best that you only deliver and not have customers picking up. You don’t want customers stopping by when you are not there.
    All the best with the new yard. Even though there is challenges it’s still better than working out of a cubicle.

    I did this in 2010.
    Power and internet will work for security cameras linked to your house. Some sort of a bathroom, a office of some type, a trailer hook up for a night watchman / day laborer. 2- 20 foot containers rather than a 40.If it is not locked up it's not insured. A fuel storage container and work shop for spare parts and some tools. A dry cooking wood shed, More covered storage, You may need a fire control system, your local fire dept. will stop by and and tell you what they want. Ya, your going to be busy and hemorrhaging money for awhile. Call the old renters and ask about the neighborhood. Remember ,if you want to get any work done, you will lock the gate behind you..

    Have been following you for about 2 years. It has been enjoyable to see you succeed from sheer force of work ethic and commitment to delivering a superior product. We are on the northern border of Vermont, probably too far to come for your grand opening, but we will be there in spirit. And we will be praying for your continued success.

    Exciting to see where you are at and where you came from. Made the decision this year to start with selling specialty lumber from my Woodmizer and begin a firewood business. I am 61 and looking to retire in a few years but love doing this and how of stuff. I am going to start at my camp where I have 50 acres of mostly wooded property. Mixed softwood and hardwood. You definitely inspire me.

    you can get a office trailer ( used) and run power to it for a break room/office or in out of the cold. Moving to this lot is a good idea for years to come. Good luck.

    Be sure and put GPS trackers on all your gear in the new yard. Will not stop the gear from being stolen but give you a chance to track it if it is. Good luck on the new location

    Wow congratulations Joe. Delighted for you. Seems a shame you couldn’t move the hoop house forward so live deck is exposed for loading but the control area was covered from both sun snow and rain. But that yard looks fantastic
