I just started my two oldest with Mia and they both LOVE it. I will say that without the PDFs (which we use with every class) the material is a bit light, so I recommend doing the paper work and if needed, reinforce with videos or further instruction from you. I took us about 3 days to get into the rhythm of things, but overall I give this a thumbs up. Before this they did two years in Connections Academy and two years with the good and the beautiful. Connections really stressed my daughter out with the tests and projects, and it was definitely a bit intense for my son who was only in kindergarten when we started. Now, the good and the beautiful was a much better fit for us, but it can take a lot of time if you want to teach this properly, particularly the history and science portions. I think for us Mia is a happy middle at the moment. I hope they can have the best experience possible.
I love your reviews. So balanced. We did Mia for a year and half (1/2 of 2nd grade, all of 3rd), it really saved me from crisis mode of "WHAT AM I DOING?! AM I DOING A HORRIBLE JOB!?" and brought back my LOVE of the opportunity of home education. It was great to be able to pull up from grades below things that we missed or needed more reinforcement or pull down from the grade above for subjects she was excelling in. I will note that If you don't do the accompanying printables to reinforce each lesson it can be VERY LIGHT material, with the focus being highly on incredibly repetitive quizzes (for 2nd it felt appropriate, by 3rd it felt far too light). We are switching to Moving Beyond the Page for 4th and after seeing your review on that I'm SO excited to do so, but it feels great to have Mia in my back pocket if we need it to rescue us again!
Love your reviews. Fun and engaging editing. Thank you. Could you review Guest Hollow geography Jr and Nancy Larson Science? I’ve been looking for more information about these two for my rising 3rd grader. Thanks again.
We are starting homeschool for 2nd grade this year and I'm expecting a baby in February. I'm worried about not being able to keep up since I also work. What online option do you use personally?
@@rml022497 I have used a mix of online options. We did Zearn for math for a few years but have now switched to a book. My girls loved Zearn for 2nd grade. If I were to choose a complete online option at this point I would probably do MiAcademy. You could also check out Power Homeschool (I have a review coming out on that next week) but I think MiAcademy is a stronger option.
@@LearningLifeMBthank you so much for the quick response! I've definitely been looking into MiAcademy. The only concern I have is for the people saying it was too easy or not enough. But I figure we could probably jump up to the next grade level if that happens. Thank you!
@@rml022497 yes, you can always jump up if needs be. But you can also supplement with extra reading and some fun hands-on units (when you feel you have the capacity to do it). Night Zookeeper is also a good supplement for writing. My girls enjoy creating their own animals and then writing about them.
@@rml022497they have pdf printables that come with every lesson. Without these printables the course is light, but for some parents such as myself, I want the light option for various reasons. Either way works but without doing the pdfs that supplement every lesson then the workload is much lighter which you may feel is not enough

@@dorikate2640 thank you so much for sharing that. I hope that MBTP is a great experience for you.
Thanks so much ❤
In your opinion, what’s the difference between Miacademy and Monarch?
