I am new to homeschooling. I was forced to pull my son from high school due to our school not providing enough academic support and the drug and alcohol issues at school. Your videos are so helpful
I just want to tell you that I learned about the Excelsior program from this video this morning, signed up this afternoon, and we start our first class tomorrow. It's going to be an excellent fit for our family this year and I would never have known about it otherwise. Thank you for taking the time to put this information out there, I'm so grateful!
Thabl you for this video it was very helpful! I use to Google homeschooling options and all the options they show are the mainstreamed programs that just aren't a good fit for my kids I tried k12 and I'd never recommend it to anyone! Very difficult for kids to navigate and requires so much of my over seeing of things that I did not habe time to do my own classes ans get hpuse work done. Your a life saver! 😊
I pulled my daughter out of a private school here in Ecuador and now she has started online schooling. Your videos are very informative and useful. Thank you so much❤
I would love to see more on Ron Paul Curriculum. I have already been researching RPC because it does look very interesting, especially for science and history!
Miacademy/MiaPrep also includes PDFs with Guided Notes, lesson practice, etc. that is intended to be used along with the videos and quizzes, so there is another component that was not mentioned in the video. Many of the science lessons also have online lab simulations.
Just remember, for the most part only a school can be accredited, not a curriculum. Some curriculums come from accredited schools, but all that really means is that a 3rd party has reviewed the school and found that it meets a certain set of standards. With homeschooling just pick the curriculum that best suits your child, whether that's a print curriculum or online, and don't worry too much about the accredited label. Good luck!
I have a 9-year-old daughter and I am just starting homeschooling. I plan to be involved full-time with her. What would be the best curriculum for me, or what steps do you recommend for building one? Thank you so much.
I for one would like to see a review of the Ron Paul Curriculum. I created the early math courses for grades 1-4 for the RPC. The high school curriculum is amazing.
I am completely brand new to homeschooling and am going to use power homeschool starting within a few weeks. I know from in school my kids struggled with on level reading. Are there any additional programs or websites I can use to help them excel with reading at grade level to catch up?
IXL is good, Readability Tutor, Night Zookeeper. Or Readarific which is something really special that my daughter did over the summer. I made a video about it at the start of summer and I am planning a follow up with the results very soon!
I am interested in an updated walk through of function as well as their social option. I am very interested in if the social aspect is active etc. 🙏Also if the tutoring is an additional cost
My son is with k12 but he’s behind and failing and hates it I’m thinking of continuing with miacademy. My only thing is it doesn’t go toward credits but I know that highschool credits are really where it begins to matter . My son has a difficult time with reading and staying on track for long periods of time and it’s boring for him with the k12 middle school videos they have. My daughter who is 5 is also in k12 but I actually like it for her age then his..
Yes before high school I would not worry about credits at all. And depending where you live it doesn't matter for high school either unless there's a chance your child will be transferring from homeschool to public or private school after starting 9th grade.
Hello, I need help. I want to change my son from public school to homeschooling but only for 8th grade, and then transfer him to high school. They did a scan, and it’s complicated for me to manage him at school. But from what I see in the videos, most accredited online homeschools have a time limit to finish, so I don’t know how to proceed. Any advice, please?
You don't have to worry about anything accredited until high school. If he's just missing 8th grade, you can just homeschool him and then enroll him in 9th grade. You shouldn't need any transcripts or anything like that. Just make sure to follow the homeschool laws for your state. It's only once high school starts that you need to worry about transfer credits.
Have you looked into brilliant microschool? I've also heard time 4 learning is good for this. Anything truly self paced is going to be good. I'd stay away from power homeschool though because the lesson videos are a little long.
Are there any other programs with dual credit options for college with accommodations with reading out loud for kids with dyslexia? I really appreciate your time. Thank you!
For dual credits mostly you will be looking at online schools rather than online homeschooling programs. So then it depends on the curriculum software they are using whether it has a read aloud option.
I am considering to do home schooling to my daughter she is 8 years old. She is public school and she is not learning at all. She failed all her classes and according with her teacher she is not behaving. She is a very sweet and good girl in my house. I hired a tutor to help her. I cried every day because l feel so sad she doesn’t get the help she needs. We live in Georgia can l pull her out of public school on the middle of the school year or do l have to wait?
Hey also ga mom!! I actually pulled out at Thanksgiving a few years back call the main office ours even gave me the withdrawal form and sent it to board of education for me
Which program would u recommend for my student who no one has taught her? Nothing in school she is behind, like kindergarten level she is 15 in the 9th, but not on the high level. im seeking help
That is such a tough question. You can send me an email if you need more help, but I would start by using something adaptive to assess her levels such as IXL. That will be able to determine her levels in math and reading and help close the gaps. Otherwise I would start her at the beginning and have her go through everything and then you can skip over things if you need to. Maybe try Miacademy and just set all the grades at a low grade level to start?
We've fallen behind at times too and I know it's stressful and can make you feel a lot of scary things but just breath and take it one step at a time. It's never too late for her to learn and catch up! I was very far behind at 15 but no one would ever know that now. Focus on having her read 60 minutes every day. Pick a new book each week. You can stick with the classics if you're unsure. Have her write, journal style, prompt questions, copy work from books, etc. You can have her start memorizing facts to help with foundational knowledge of a multitude of subjects. There are specific lists you can look up. And then with math, start from the ground up, just take an assessment to see where she's at. You got this. Good luck!
I need something my fast learning 4 year old could do that will work with her school but also push her to learn in a different way or just fly past everything
It's the same thing as power homeschool except they are considered a school so you can get transcripts and a diploma. Otherwise it's the exact same thing.
I will go with time for learning for my 1st grader and kindergartner. But how to tranfer from public schools to homeschooling? They go back to school in 12 days , but i want to home school. Do i just keep them home and homeschool? Or do i need some sort of forms first maybe ? I need help transferring from public to homeschool...
What state do you live in? Send me an email and I'll try to help. Or go to hslda.org/legal and pick your state. If your kids are already enrolled in school, you'll need to withdraw them first, but it's a simple process in most cases.
What do you know about Connections Academy / Pearson Education? Would you recommend it comparing to others. Something where they issue transcript and diploma.
Pearson is a private online school which is very different from an online homeschooling program. I would compare it to K12 because they have both public and private school options. There will be a mix of live, teacher-led online classes and offline work so you will have a flexible schedule. But it's a school, so there will be grades and transcripts and a diploma upon graduation. With homeschooling, the parent is usually responsible for these items.
I was interested in these programs too but they aren't available in every state. Unfortunately my state doesn't offer any of these tuition free options.

No, except for excelsior classes. For the most part, an online homeschooling program is just a curriculum that happens to be done online. A curriculum cannot be accredited.
Anyone can use these to learn, but if you're looking for an actual US diploma, you'll want an online school instead of an online homeschooling program.
Honestly I don't even recommend doing anything for Pre K if you're going to homeschool just let the kids play and teach through just going about your daily life. For Kindergarten I would take it slow as well. But if you're looking for an online program, either Time 4 Learning or Homeschool+.
