Idk i have a stock HD 6speed i like it never had a problem with it . I guess it depends on your riding style to need to have a baker transmission. It looks nice ide probably put it in a display case and sit it on the living room shelf .🙂
I’m glad I learned this now as I won’t bother looking for a six speed Twin Cam. If I find a cheap five speed I’ll just swap out the gears. Thanks for the detailed info👍
Yep, lost 3rd in my 17 ultra, and got black flagged for my tmax tuner! Went dds7 per recommendation, but wouldn't have today, 6 is enough with bigger motors! Thx!
The Baker has straight cut gears, the Harley has Helical gears, interesting. Straight cut produce that whine you hear in race cars for instance, but they are the strongest gearing you can get. Helical gears are made to reduce that noise or remove it completely, but they dont hold up to a ton of power, which is why race cars / bikes typically will have a straight cut gear trans in it. Just some fyi lol
Within the first minute these guys have shown they don't know what they are talking about. The main difference is right in front of you - straight cut vs helical gears. Helical gears are much quieter but introduce thrust loads on bearings.
If you actually paid attention, we covered all of that. Clearly you’re not very good at paying attention. Clearly you don’t know what you’re talking about clearly you’re not an actual mechanic.
@@kruesioriginals Clearly you are another brain-dead opinionated troll. A lot of mechanics have poor engineering comprehension, so you might actually be one, but if you are that misinformed I wouldn't advertise it on social media.
Is no one gonna talk about the gears themselves? Those Baker’s gotta be loud as hell, but straight cuts with that tooth thickness… that can handle quite a few go-fast goodies. I will give HD this, those gears in combination with the thinner dogs and ball bearings are smooth, but that’s probably also a choke point for people who want to make TC HD with some muscle.
Y'all must have vagina's worrying about noise. The big block chevy guys go ape shit for the muncie rock crusher trans. They isn skeered of noise, in fact the 1st n 2nd gear whine is nice. I have an 07 ultra classic with 96ci and 6 speed never had any issues matched up well…now if I was going to change out motors with more cubic inches yes I can see doing a baker 6 speed but I also have a Titan sidewinder with a 113 ci and a Jim’s fat 5 if I feel the need for hitting gears hard….I would never put a transmission like a baker 6 speed with an average motor ….if your going with big motors then yes but don’t waste your money on a bullet proof transmission on stock motors
Ive got a Jims OD 6 speed in my TC FXR and geared it exactly as described, super short with 6th gear as an (Aus) highway gear... only issue is 1st gear has become literally useless.
My 07 fxdb sometimes pops out of 3rd if I'm running through the gears hot rodding and it's a stock cam 96". Only does it when I'm power shifting (not using the clutch lever). I've been running spectro 6 speed oil like baker recommends hoping to prolong the stock harley 6 speed. Maybe one day I can afford one of those badass Baker 6 speeds. Might have to sell my Silverado for it or one of my kidneys.
Mine '13 Ultra has lots of metalflakes on the drainplug, and with the rear wheel of the ground and turn it around, the transmission makes a soft scraping noise. Is that also a sign that it's gonna fail one of these days?
Harleys ceased to be "premium" motorcycles with the end of the Evo line. They're great because they're so easy to REbuild with quality aftermarket parts. (Happy Baker owner here.)
Is this for all harley 6spd?what year did harley start making the 6spd ? Is it found in the 5spd gear boxes too(cheap parts) and if so what year did it start..thanks in advance...just bought on with the 6spd '07 CVO
The six speed starred in all Harley Davidson models in 2007. It’s just a junk transmission and you can’t get parts for them at all anymore they’re completely obsolete
Problem with beautiful looking components like that Baker transmission is that once it's installed you'll never get to look at it again. One question though...do the straight cut gears create added noise that could be considered annoying on longer rides? Or is the noise not really an issue?
But i already know that u have removed the kushdrive and probably have a chain conversion and it was never designed for that shock load nor were they intended to pop 12 o'clock wheelies

Not a Harley rider here, but this seems like a comparison with a bit of bias. Baker is legendary in the community.... but you're comparing stock to a purpose built racing transmission. That grudge box has straight cut gears... and the stock one has helical cut. Its like comparing a rock to a .50 cal... because they both can be considered lethal projectiles
