Keep that ole slant six, that thing sounds absolutely killer!!!!! Really looking forward to hearing that thing screaming down the road wide open, especially if it has a cam like you think it does!
Love the old Slant Sixes! Had a bunch of them. You definitely need to adjust the valves, Michael. When they are set right, you can't barely hear them! I also love my old Super Six 225 with the Carter BBD 2 barrel set up from a 318. They ran really strong also.
Really cool lil duster, I’d leave the slant 6 in it and fix it up. Everybody does the v8 swaps anymore honestly, it’s cool seeing a hopped up slant 6 still in it. Glad you guys saved it, honestly it doesn’t look too bad definitely worth fixing up.
In 1974 when I was 16 years old I delivered a brand new 6 cylinder Duster from Denver to a dealership in Montrose, Colorado. I was in heaven driving a brand new car at 16 years old! Not sure how my dad arranged for me to do so but I certainly wasn’t about to object! The drive there was a lot more fun than the Greyhound bus ride back to Denver. I sure enjoy your videos! My in-laws had a GMC motorhome back in the 80’s. It brings back some great family memories.
Whoever owned that Duster before loved it with the 6 banger. I would just improve it and leave the same engine in it. The guy was definitely into High Performance😊😊😊
Agreed. I'm on for a V8, but as someone has cherished this car, I think it'd be a crime to take the 6 out. Especially will the rare high performance equipment ..and she sound so good too!
you're so right with your comment "using the old stuff is better than using new stuff". after replacing the dist-rotor, -cap and wiring on my good old Opel Commodore he runs like a "bag of nuts", as we say in German. i've searched days for the fault, checked everything. than i bought new "old" genuine parts from Opel/Bosch (rotor, cap and wirings) and - my good old pal runs as new. new parts, manufactured today, are often crap =( BTW: i like how you bring good old cars back to life and your vid's. keep going on to rescue little pieces of the good old times before they're crushed and forgotten forever. always cute to see when your kid's are working also on the old stuff, thumbs up ^_^.
First truck had the 225 leaning tower of power. When that one died we put a Super Slant 6 called the 275 we pulled it out of a 1970’s Duster. All I’m saying is let it ride my man.
Normally I would say it has to have a V8. But this 225 is an exception. That thing sounds fantastic and I bet you it has some nice power as well. Do it up man!
I totally appreciate your methodology of getting engines back to life especially after seeing the debris in the intake manifold. Nice work! Keep the slant 6 👍🏼
The good old days before the country went insane. I loved the 80s. 90s wasn’t bad but since then, It seems people have lost all common sense and getting worse.
Keep the 6 because it's unusual. You never see a Duster with a 6 anymore. I had a 1970 Duster in 1970 with a 6 and I put a 4 barrel on it also. It was orange and the color name was Vitamin C. Good stuff!
Take the Spark plug gaskets off on these drool tube engines.....just thought you might like to know. Nice find, very cool to see that someone liked the Slant 6 this much. I like it alot!!!!!! I would do a V24 hood treatment stripe with the engine Callout "225". Leave this one a 6 cylinder....you can always get another for a V8 build.
Keep the slant 6. You can't kill'm and I think that once you get it rolling on the road, you'll be surprised at the power with the 4bbl and the header.👍✌
Hate to burst your bubble. You can definitely kill them! The one I owned left me and my younger brother stranded 2 1/2 miles from home in below zero weather when it broke a connecting rod. And when I was a kid I got to watch my dad swap out 3 or 4 slant 6's that blew up. And two were in the same car. The original engine blew up and he swapped in a used engine and it made it 20 miles and blew up too. But it's cool to see a modified inline 6.
My first car was a 1971 duster just like this, well all stock anyway. Brings back tons of memories. in the 6 years I drove it that car NEVER left me stranded. The few times it broke it did it as I would pull into my driveway.
Let that Slant-sixxer live! shes definitely been warmed over a bit, and deserves a second chance! I think i can speak for many other mopar folks, we need to see that 225 slant peelin some tires!!
paint that black and you are the coolest dude in town for a very limited time before adulthood kicks in,i feel that engine deserves to stay in the car somebody loved this timecapsule
I remember Splitfire plugs from the 80's, I had a set on my Toyota pickup. They were supposed to be the hottest thing around. Thanks for the memory on that! Nice work getting the old girl running!
I have a 1970 Plymouth Duster . I have a 225 slant six. Mine has the one barrel Holly carburetor model 1920 . I have the stock exhaust manifold. The 904 torqueflight transmisson. I still enjoy driving it on the weekends. Glad to see you will have that one back on the road soon.
Same as mine also. I have different wheel covers on mine. Also in 1970 mine was called the Valiant Duster. Then in 1971 they dropped Valiant from the model name.
Looks almost exactly like my best friends car that we cruised around in in the early 80's. He did it up all nice, and the chicks dug it !Clean it up, and leave it as is , is my thought.
Great work ! I am on my 13th Duster. Been building Mopars over 50 yrs going. Like your channel. I drag raced a Duster 6 yrs with a JB welded radiator. Very methodical and practical repairs you are making. Keep it going, keeps us all sane !
When you get this slant 6 engine, also affectionately known by Mopar guys as the "leaning tower of power", dialed in right, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. The four barrel, headers, and dual exhaust will make a difference!
Back in high school those dusters with the slant 6 was the car to have. They were economical and very easy and inexpensive to fix. Which is exactly what a high school kid working part-time in fast food needed. The slant 6 was the best engine.
Love this little Duster! Honestly, I'd keep the slant 6... it gives the car more character. This doesn't mean that the slanty can't get a nice intake... exhaust... turbo. That's what I'd do with it, anyway.
Dear Budget Builders. 👍👌👏 Well done again (video and work). That's a really nice shaped vehicle and I like 6 cyl. inline engines much better than V8 engines anyway. Yours is a 3.6 litre. In Germany this would still be called a really big engine. But especially in the 1960's and 1970's! So please, Sirs, please keep it. This six banger should be more than strong enough for such a relatively small car. The gas mileage is better too. Additionally I love how much space is under the hood. Makes it easy to work on everything. If you are able to get rid of the rattling/clanking noise and free the clogged muffler, you will have fun with this orange Plymouth. I don't know why but somehow I think that the car needs racing numbers and black stripes. As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing. Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.
The Rage Monster at 17:30 was terrific. Even the Maestro gets frustrated sometimes. Bravo good Sir! You just went up even more in every viewer's estimation.
Keep the 6 . If you want to play turbo it . That is the sweetest /6 I've ever heard . I know back in the day my dad's truck with a slanty would pull a 350 auto van every time . The six would just Rev faster and the 3 on the tree added to it . I so love this one so much . I remember my mom's 76 dart and my 6'4" big butt 300+ at the time tring to fit in back seat... with dad having the seat back all the way ... Thank you the memories you just brought back wow . Pluss you are going to make bank on this car . They go for so much now. Watch out for the 904 transmission with the extra power . Always Cary an extra Ballesteros resistor. Trust me I know . Napa has the bushing rebuild kit for the windshield wipers... you will need it . I think that might be a 7 1/4 rear if so an upgrade to an 8 Ford or a 8.8 out of an explorer ( disk brakes ) would be a good call. I can't wait until the clean up video Did I mention I want this car so bad .....I'm 54 and it makes me feel like a kid again ❤❤❤ thanks again I love your channel and that you and your dad do it together
Just want to say after watching several of your videos I like your gentle approach to turning the motor by hand feeling it out. I believe the process you use gives the motor an honest chance of running as well as it can. So much damage is done by others just hitting the starter and see what’s happens which is so immature mechanics.
I'd also say, keep the sixer. with all these parts it's a shame to throw it out. :D I remember those US army trucks from my earlier days, when US forces were looking after us germans. there is a barracks not far from ym place. these trucks would whistle through the streets of a german village and leave a string of smoke in like 3 meters altitude that would stay there forever until some wind would shove it away. XD
Yeah Brothers, you just can't kill those slant 6's - I had one in a '80 Volare and the more I pounded on it the better it ran - very dependable! Great video!
Good morning from Cape Cod 🦈 my father had a 74 gold duster with the alligator top, underpowered and underperforming but it ran for a couple hundred thousand miles, then he traded it in. With all the performance goodies I would say get her roadworthy and see what it'll do. That military trucks certainly was a treat 👍 Temper, temper Mike 😂 bad camera. Keep up the great work guys and the awesome content ✌️🇺🇲
Didn't knew the Plymouth came out as a coupe too, - exact same color as in the 1971 Spielberg thriller "Duel", - looking far better than the sedan version in that movie !
The first new car I bought was this one's younger cousin, a '75 Dodge Dart Sport. Loved it, wish it was still around. Great work getting this going, will be looking for it to hit the pavement 👍
That 225 slant six was never a power house. But you can't kill those motors. Good car, good motor. I worked on many of those when I was your age. Enjoy the car. Best of luck.
When you pulled those plugs I said throw them in the garbage! My 69 Chevelle ate 2 sets of them in about 3 months. Junk! Love what you guys do and keep that 6 cylinder.♥️👍🏼🙏
Gotta love a good old duster...My dad ordered a brand new one back in 74. I remember him telling me about all the options he got on it. Including a 360/ 4 speed. It was like $3,600 brand new...LOL I miss the good old days...
oh wow! a mostly intact Duster decal is still on the back of this thing. My brother then I had a 74 with the 318 V8, ran like a champ. Had to replace it when the rear passenger spring shackle came up through the trunk, gotta love upper midwest rust. My vote is to keep the 6! Thanks for the content guys!
Al Bundy would approve, and so do I. That camera yeet was epic, and I think that's what convinced the 225 to run😁 You gotta clean this one up, run dual glasspacks out the back, & give that rear end a boost so you can run Cragar SS and Cooper Cobras. That 5 ton was a nice bonus - I had an opportunity to drive a Deuce and a half many moons ago, and that exhaust note never gets old. You're missing out on double clutching it, though.👍
That Plymouth Duster is on the same platform as the Plymouth Valiant and the Plymouth Barracuda. My dad had a 61 Valiant (with a factory three speed on the floor) a 63 (which he rescued from some kid who thought he had a hot rod) a 69 which he bought with only a year on the clock, and a 1980 Plymouth Volare station wagon which he traded in the 69 (this was the first new car that he bought). All of the cars carried the slant six and they performed very well. They had the Volare station wagon for twenty years. Mother told me that they had it so long that one time when they went to renew the tag the girl behind the counter had never heard of a Volare. Though mother was senile and did not know what she was talking about. Clean that car up and rush it to the selling floor.
Dang, split fire, spark plugs! This sounds like a JC Whitney mobile! Being a veteran of the teenage hot rod years of the early 70s, I can see this being the same thing.
A Slant 6 with headers and a 4 barrel carb? Yes!
😃😃😃
Levee the six in we need more six cylinder on the road nice car I wish I had it good luck 👍
Gettin’ the most out of that 6-pack!
Absolutely mate
That us crazy about those Splitfire plugs😮. I had used them in a pickup that subsequently had its engine break rings internally 😮😊
Keep the 6 cylinder engine! Brings back memories of my High School Days! You and your Dad are putting out some awesome videos!!!!
I agree
Drove a 71 dart NYC 😅. To. LA got 26 mpg in Aug. 1986
Keep that ole slant six, that thing sounds absolutely killer!!!!! Really looking forward to hearing that thing screaming down the road wide open, especially if it has a cam like you think it does!
Of course it runs, it's a slant six. Keep the slant six! Don't fix what's not broken.
Dang slant sixes are "bullet proof"!
Had a '72 Duster with the slant six and that engine was indestructible.
But the oil pumps fail
Score hyper pack
Please keep the Leaning Tower of Power!! It sounds awesome!
Those slant sixes are good engines. I'd keep it as is.
This car, cleaned up with some aluminum slots, big in the back and little up front is basically my dream mopar
Keep it as is. It's a snapshot in time. Slant 6's run forever and the vintage speed parts make it even cooler.
Love the old Slant Sixes! Had a bunch of them. You definitely need to adjust the valves, Michael. When they are set right, you can't barely hear them! I also love my old Super Six 225 with the Carter BBD 2 barrel set up from a 318. They ran really strong also.
Build her with that ole 225!! It deserves to live on!!
Keep the slant six! Make her road ready!

Oh man! You have to give that slant 6 a chance to shine.
Whoever owned that Duster before loved it with the 6 banger.
I would just improve it and leave the same engine in it. The guy was definitely into High Performance😊😊😊
Most definitely! Sounds like a good plan 😃

That bit at the end with the army truck was cool. I bet your neighbors are never surprised by anything they see you drive past their houses anymore. 🤣
Leaning Tower of Power always never disappoint. A keeper.
Wow! The leaning tower of power. With all those add on goodies too. I love it. Can't wait to see you guys bring this one back to life.
My first car in 1972 without all the goodies. $2295 financed for 3 years paid for working building pump jack panels. Thanks for the memories.
Leave the slant 6 for sure. BTW, I really hope that the Pagoda at 29:30 makes an appearance on the channel!
Keep it a 6,cool truck😊
Sounds like a good plan! ☺️

Gotta keep the “hillside hemi” it sounds great ! Nice twister special, love the seat material.
Those little old dusters are so light, I bet the 6banger pushes it around pretty good
Normally I would say it has to have a V8. But this 225 is an exception. That thing sounds fantastic and I bet you it has some nice power as well. Do it up man!
I’m 54 born in 69. Older I get I see that the older cars and trucks are better than the new stuff.
Yep!
I totally appreciate your methodology of getting engines back to life especially after seeing the debris in the intake manifold. Nice work! Keep the slant 6 👍🏼
Had the exact Duster, down to the nice orange plaid bench seat. It had a 318 and 3speed on the floor. A hundred bucks in 79... :)
Too awesome!!! 😃 Bet that was fun! Talk about bang for the buck!
The good old days before the country went insane. I loved the 80s. 90s wasn’t bad but since then, It seems people have lost all common sense and getting worse.
oh to have one them now
Yes, an A body mopar! Really excited to see this come back to life!
I just love the sound of inline sixes
Same!! 😊
Super happy about the hopped up Slant 6. Keep it and bring the rest of the car around.
Keep the 6 because it's unusual. You never see a Duster with a 6 anymore. I had a 1970 Duster in 1970 with a 6 and I put a 4 barrel on it also. It was orange and the color name was Vitamin C. Good stuff!
Same "watermelon" hubcaps as the 71 Plymouth Valiant in Duel, by Steven Spielberg haha! Hello from Brazil 👏
Haha Yeap!! 👋 Thanks for watching 🙂 Hope you enjoyed!
The camera slam was epic
he felt a lot better 😂😂😂
🤣🤣

Slant Sixes were some of the best engines made. Keep it with this car.
Leave the six if you wanna play turbo charge it. Love the content keep it coming.
Let that Slant-sixxer live! shes definitely been warmed over a bit, and deserves a second chance! I think i can speak for many other mopar folks, we need to see that 225 slant peelin some tires!!
you're saving my day. just what i needed, a rescue video from BB. Making the world a better place - one car at a time. thanks!
☺️☺️
I haven't seen splitfire spark plugs in like 25 years. Talk about a throwback!
Those things never made any sense.
Yeah my dad ran split fires on his old C10. Still got them in the garage...lol
Yep i remember those.
Always a gift to see you and dad doing another video. What a cool looking slant 6 hot rod. Very cool. 👍👍✌️🧡
I forgot they ever existed
paint that black and you are the coolest dude in town for a very limited time before adulthood kicks in,i feel that engine deserves to stay in the car somebody loved this timecapsule
I love those slant 6s. Very underrated.
Always wanted a Duster. Expensive in NZ
I remember Splitfire plugs from the 80's, I had a set on my Toyota pickup. They were supposed to be the hottest thing around. Thanks for the memory on that! Nice work getting the old girl running!
I put a set of split-fire spark plugs in my 1988 Escort GT's engine!! Back in 1988!!!! 15 more hp and 15 lbs of torque!!!! LOL
Same configuration as my ‘72 Duster.😮
Same as mine also. I have different wheel covers on mine. Also in 1970 mine was called the Valiant Duster. Then in 1971 they dropped Valiant from the model name.
I think you should keep the slant 6 -- Mostly because I carry around a lot of guilt for blowing up the slant 6 in my old '64 Dart.
Nice!you and your Dad always bring the best content! Thanks 👍
Thank you so much for the kind comment!! Really glad you’re enjoying ☺️
Looks almost exactly like my best friends car that we cruised around in in the early 80's. He did it up all nice, and the chicks dug it !Clean it up, and leave it as is , is my thought.

Keep the 6 banger. This is a survivor, and a time capsule of the car scene that itbwas apart of way back when.
Great work ! I am on my 13th Duster. Been building Mopars over 50 yrs going. Like your channel. I drag raced a Duster 6 yrs with a JB welded radiator. Very methodical and practical repairs you are making. Keep it going, keeps us all sane !
Another great video and the Plymouth is cool, I'm looking forward to more videos.
The military truck was amazing, the sound nice
That's a Plymouth and I live in Plymouth. A very cool looking car I love the styling especially the tail lights.
Great job.
Do you live in Plymouth Michigan or Plymouth Massachusetts?

I’m sure! 😃 We’re really excited for it!!
Really enjoyed the getting it running. Keep it original and clean it up as best you can to restore the pride it once had. Cheers from New Zealand.
For what it's worth, keep the six. It reminds me of the '74 Duster I owned.
Nice 5 ton, my last MOS in the Guard was driving one of these or a fifth wheel tractor. I love the old 5 speed fifth wheel.
I had a friend and she only wanted Dodge and Plymouth cars with 6's. This was Deja vu. I'd keep it with the slant-6.
Better to hear birds than dogs,so be lucky for that🙏🙏🇬🇧🇬🇧
That 945 5ton is a great rig, almost impossible to get stuck with the CTIS. drove one for years
Good.job.nice plymouth.Duster good show 👍👍👏👏👏👏😍
Ihad a 72 Duster in High School with the slant 6. Keep the leaning tower of power, fix up the car and Iwill watch every episode.👍

A lot of guys had these old Plymouth 6 bangers in high school. We called them Plymouth clickets.
Awesome build...keep the slant 6 for sure!👍
oh wow! a mostly intact Duster decal is still on the back of this thing. My brother then I had a 74 with the 318 V8, ran like a champ. Had to replace it when the rear passenger spring shackle came up through the trunk, gotta love upper midwest rust. My vote is to keep the 6! Thanks for the content guys!
That military truck is the titanic on 6 wheels lol
Al Bundy would approve, and so do I. That camera yeet was epic, and I think that's what convinced the 225 to run😁
You gotta clean this one up, run dual glasspacks out the back, & give that rear end a boost so you can run Cragar SS and Cooper Cobras.
That 5 ton was a nice bonus - I had an opportunity to drive a Deuce and a half many moons ago, and that exhaust note never gets old. You're missing out on double clutching it, though.👍
Can imagine how much it would cost to replace all six tires on that Army truck 🚚 😮😮😮😮😮😂😂😂
Chad's craftsmanship is really beyond compare.. He really deserved the Gonzo from Paul, I'm very sure he will restore it to a prestige condition.
Dang, split fire, spark plugs! This sounds like a JC Whitney mobile! Being a veteran of the teenage hot rod years of the early 70s, I can see this being the same thing.
