Anyone else vote for a restoration on this Grand Prix? Love that grill man!
I like the “hockey stick” taillights as well.
Vote all you want, but HE has to provide the labor and money!
The Pontiac Grand Prix has a great looking design imo, and this one doesn't seem to even have a dent anywhere, super clean!
This car is from back when Pontiac really did “build excitement.” Do a full resto on this. Great car!
Agree.. the 68's sold so badly, they are now very rare!!! it was never my favorite style, I have a 66, but it is definitely a keeper..
You know it's safe to just go ahead and hit like long before finishing the video lol.
I haven’t regretted a like right off the bat yet!
I already had the spark plugs pulled, even before I hit the like button.
Thank you! I do hope you enjoy it ☺️
@@BudgetBuildz I always do!

Probably one of the sexiest cars of the sixties. Coke-bottle side view, bucket seats, console, hidden headlights,Pontiac beak, skirts...
so nice to see Father and Son working together you cant imagine what that means to a pop
It took me a while to believe they were father and son, such a lovely, warm relationship going on there, just having good old fashioned fun, what's not to like?
Amen to that. And to the son. I lost my dad when i was 22 and he was 52. Far too young for a lovely man to go. I miss him every day and I am 76 now.
Seeing these two lads caring and sharing all this fun doing what they love to do is brilliant.
Just for a reference. All Pontiac blocks are the same size. From the 326 to 455. You can check the side of the block and some have the engine size cast into them. Otherwise, you can check the code on the front flat one the passenger front of the block below the head. It should be a two letter code like YS or something. The heads have a code on the center ports. They should be Cast 62 for And air car with a 400 Cu engine if its the original one.
Thank you for pointing that out! It’s a bad habit I have, calling them Big Blocks 🤦♂️ This car being a 400, our Bonneville and Starchief being 389s. I just kind of think big block compared to everything else we mess with. Great info, I really appreciate it!
Having looked at the engine a bit better. I am guessing that you have a later Pontiac 400. The Brackets are around 1973 or so. The Carb is a Chevy one. Pontiac Q-jets for Pontiac are center fill not off to the side like Chevy used, The engine might smoke because the valve seals on the valves might have dried out and cracked. Its common on cars that have sat for years. You can replace them if your handy and have a Piece of rope and a valve spring compressor. The center console looked like it was mounted wrong. But. You will have to lift the car with someone in it and have them shift the shifter and watch the Trans mount for the shifter and the bracket. It might be mounted backwards. If your lucky the Grand Prix has Disk brakes (it was and option as were the famous 8 lug aluminum drum wheels) If you need any more information I am a moderator for one of the biggest Pontiac forums. Built many many cars over the years.
@@1gatomon Good eye! Yeap it’s a ‘72 date code. A bit of a bummer over the original ‘68 but someone atleast took the time to install the 4 barrel intake. I still need to dig into the trans some more and hopefully we can get it figured out 🙂 I really appreciate that! I will let you know what we run into and keep you in mind. We’re hunting a reasonable and decent front valance currently.
@@1gatomon first thing I noticed was engine being painted wrong color. Those were prone to stripping the nylon timing gear
I'm taking a shot that the engine being painted Chevy red gives it a chance at being rebuilt. If the timing chain is original it will show up later when the timing light will not be steady when giving it a tune up. Its not hard to pull the timing cover and replace it with a nice double roller set. The big Pontiac have such a huge engine bay. @@michaelcoonce6694
Very cool car, you don’t see many of those pontiacs around anymore and that one actually looks to be in pretty decent shape. Can’t wait to see what’s up with that transmission, may be the reason she was parked.
I love these cars. They just have an awesome look to them. This one could be really cool if you put a little time into it. It seems to be in really good overall condition, considering that it has been sitting for years.
Love how you two enjoy what you’re doing as a father and son! A pleasure to follow your channel!
It's not charging - totally misses that the exciter wire isnt plugged in. Does sound good though - hope the trans isn't fubared.
😩 Lol When going back with the original alternator I have to wire in the right plug and completely forgot I hadn’t done that 😅 Good eye! I hope so as well!
I love the old Pontiacs, I love all of those old body styles the bigger the better 😎😎
Wowzers, the boot (trunk) on that is almost as big as most of the cars here in the UK 🇬🇧
Don’t know, but it kinda looks like you didn’t plug the harness back into the alternator. Maybe that’s why it wasn’t charging?
Cool video! Love watching you guys .
I was just going to write a comment about that. Should be a connector laying there that's not plugged in for the relay.
👍👌👏 Looks and sounds great. Might need less work than your forest rescues. Congratulations 🎉 for this purchase. 2) Not far away from hitting a quarter million subscribers. Hope you reach it to be a nice Christmas gift.
Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all of you.
Never seen an orange Pontiac engine. I always thought they were blue.
You’d be correct! Someone got happy with the Chevy Engine Paint 😬 It will be the OE Pontiac Blue Metallic soon!
That’s a really cool grand prix, definitely worth restoring or fixing up. It’s sad it was abandoned for so long, they’re really cool cruisers and very overlooked.
Michael I am absolutely blown away by that classic car I’m jealous I can’t wait to see you get it driving again
I love that you are saving the Pontiacs
Agreed, I can't get used to old gas smell 🤢
I'm new to this channel,,....but got to say,,,I need too high five u guys, more then five times,,,u guy r awesome ,,,that ride is SUPER COOL,,,,,, from El Paso Texas,,,,,,,
68 GP my favorite year, there was one also in goodfellas, my dads got a 73 GP 455 SJ Valencia gold, parchment interior, white vinyl top, A/C power sunroof, car is loaded and mostly original has the numbers matching 455 block in it has 6x heads, roller rockers and 2004R 4 speed auto trans which i dont like as much but it runs and looks great
cant wait to see an update on the firebird, would love to see it repainted, maybe trans am clone?
That one there looks like a nice rescue body wise looks good with a good clean it will look great 👍 looking forward for the next video
Let’s clean it up and get it driving. Definitely worth the save. Can’t wait for the finish of the big camper
I use to have one just like that and it was same color with black interior and it had a 428 with a turbo 400 trans. The car was fast and it was nice. If you ever watch the movie Goodfellas the car Ray was driving with the guy in the trunk was a 1968 Pontiac GP
Why such unloyal fans??? Seriously... you guys put out such great content, have a huge viewership.... so why cant viewers trouble themselves enough to hit the thumbs up??? Just blows my mind every week.
Just scrolling through the comments and realised I hadn't! Thumbs now upwards!
Thanks for taking time to show your son! That is what life is all about! I also admire your channel for being versatile for your choices of vintage cars to getting operating once more!! A++++++
I’ve had several Grand Prix’s. My favorite car. Miss my Pontiacs. Make it run.
What. Unique Save & Rescue, Great Save Gentleman.. Hope You Both& Families Had. Wonderful Thanksgiving, Can’t Wait To See What’s Next, God Bless Guys, Be Well!!
She is definitely a runner, possibly a 428? I had a 66 Bonneville, 428, and she was a boat that would float.
Would love to see you continue to refine this car and get her on the road.
Might be a cool car to restore and give it to your son to drive to high school, he would be the star attraction.
421. 428 came out in 67.
I'm a huge fan of Pontiacs from the 60s. Nice video.
🗿my neighbor had a 66 2+2, 4spd car that sparked my interest eary on. Glad you are the one putting this one back on the road. Thanks for sharing 👍💯
Hi Guys nice video 📹 and workmanship looks super fast for how it sounds I'm sure I'll little more effort it will sound like a top fuel ⛽️
i want to mount that rear end. that is ahead of its time. keep the L shaped tail lights with LEDs. cars back then used circle and square HL and tail lights. not these guys. now we have just lines as head lights. ahead of it's time
My quess from a good look of the power plaint that is powered with a 428 big block. Good luck with this rare classic Pontiac.
just two minutes in and I'm already on board. this is gonna be a good one. structurally it looks solid. love the car
Hi new subscriber. What kind of oil did you use and would you add zinc too?
First car you've had that has an intact exhaust! Nice save, I love these style of Grand Prixes
My first car was a 1976 Pontiac Catalina, with a 400 in it. The exhaust was so quiet on that thing, I could start it in the early mornings , on them cold mornings, to let it warm up, and, sometimes, when I came back outside, to leave, I could almost forget it was running, because it was as so stinking quiet and smooth.
Nice job getting that Pontiac running. The engine is sounding nice. I had a '68 Catalina with the 400 back in the day & it was a really fine automobile. Keep an eye on the timing chain. They tend to snap around 100k. Mine did. Good luck with her & looking forward to seeing more.
Looking forward to the clean up on this one.
Fun video to watch, always enjoy them. You and Dad should swing by whatever airport that seems to be close by. Maybe do a video on this big radials I keep hearing overhead. 😂
That is an awesome old Pontiac! Can't wait for the restoration
love this rescue please finish her interesting body style for the Grand Prix
Man. nice now you need to put on some cherry bomb glass packs !
This would make a nice daily driver all fixed up
Good to see you and your dad working together.
Pontiac didn’t have “small blocks” and “big blocks”. They all have a 10.24” deck height, and a 6.625” rod. The only differences in the blocks were main journal diameter.
@29:28 It’s not going to charge with the field wires disconnected. A 68 has an externally regulated alternator. You put an internally regulated alternator on it. Wire it up correctly and it’ll charge.
Great car. Looking forward to seeing it running and cleaned up.
Looks like it had a Maaco Special paint job. Apart from that looks solid and complete and has all the trim. Being out of manufacture for some time Pontiacs are now more rare and desirable. I agree the steering wheel looks great.
Beautiful Pontiac. She definitely deserves the love you are giving her.
Looks like it'll clean up pretty nice, too - 👍
Love you guys and your videos. I still wish your dad was more talkative but it's all good. You guys are awesome
"It sure doesn't taste good..." LOL! Love it! Great vid as usual! What do you do with all these cars? Thanks for the great content!
Определять состояние моторного масла на вкус-это сверхспособность!)))Как всегда отличное видео, посмотрел с удовольствием.
I love the 68 GP...last B body full size GP. Such a massive presence, so much style. Nice example...a/c, buckets and floor shift, tilt. FYI Pontiac did not have small and big blocks, like chevys...same block structure...someone converted this one to HEI
That's one awesome Grand Prix. You guys do some great work I can't wait to see what's coming next for the Pontiac. 👍✌️🇺🇲
Excellent work my friend but you really can work using a watch on cause I can not even with the ring on my finger, God bless you
Thank you! I do take it off often and it’s still scratched up 😅 The reason I like to wear it, is my phone notifications come up on it. Keeps me from having to dig in my pocket with greasy hands to see who’s calling etc.
Budget Buildz father and son great job , on getting this classic Pontiac up and running again , can't wait Until you guys get her transmission , Figured out so she can be on the road again, and possible a light Restore because she deserves it 🇺🇸🇺🇸💪💪🙏🙏🙏🙏
You had me at Pontiac! My Dad bought an '81 GP brand new - it was a much smaller car than yours. About a decade or so later, I found a '70 Catalina in a dealer's "budget" section. Should've known there was trouble ahead: the previous owner had replaced the heater hoses with garden hose🤦♂️
Hopefully this car will accept being given another chance to run the roads again. Looking forward to episode #2!
My Dad bought an '80 GP brand new 😀
I was telling my sister today why it is your channel that I'm always looking forward to.
Your ability to take a long abandoned and buried vehicle from some scrap yard or elsewhere and once you have it in your yard (versus a well appointed shop)* you and your father take what seems to be a ugly duckling to a life it had left long ago in a state of suspended animation just waiting for a rebirthing so to speak.
The entire video is well edited and the story told along the way has grown to be better each time over the many uploads. You two are humble but way deserving of much in the way of engine revival accolades most duely deserved.
*such as VGG or JYDigs, and more in line with another favorite of mine but so polar opposite from yours is Dal'un at PBG.
One sweet car! Don't know how you find these gems.. Anything I find even close to what y'all do , they always has a hole through side of block or transmission in 10 pieces lol
And we, your viewers and subscribers appreciate your efforts with getting these forgotten gems to run and live again, thank you Michael and dad 👍🙂
I enjoy watching you give these old cars a second chance. If this car could talk imagine the stories it could tell?
What a cool car. My grandfather worked for GM/Fisher Body for 43 years. That GM period from 1963-70 was a great era for all of GM. Seeing you work on that Grand Prix really “hit home” with me and my son. Is that engine a 389, 400, 421 or a 428? We really enjoy all of your reclamation projects and builds. Thanks for sharing through your TH-cam channel. We’re looking forward to more videos on that Pontiac Grand Prix . . . a lot.
Great looking car and in good condition well worth restoring.
Great save. Way cool, under rated car. Can’t wait for the next installment on this one.
Why don't you just let the car run for a couple of minutes without trying to rev it straight away!??Especially when it's been stood for a long time 🙄
My obsession is cars and I know most well. I had never seen this one. What year is it and madel please. It must be low production
Awesome! This is a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix ✌️
@@BudgetBuildz thanks guys
@@BudgetBuildz 31 700 odd coups made does it have the base 400
Nice That Pontiac deserves to be back on the road!
What a privilege to be able to work on a car like that... greetings from Monterrey Mexico.
What's the video you were talking me about at Cars and Coffee about going to Carolina Driveline?

Should be this one here 😃
Another great find! Bring her back and have fun!! Onward!
Love to see that old '68 GP back on the road. Best to all your family and a great holiday season and New Year!!!
Hi bro from west Alabama
Hey Bro!! 😊
@@BudgetBuildz what up
It’s going to look great cleaned up!
Yah buddy
😃 I hope you enjoy!
That car is a beauty! Great video!
Sorry friend,no Pontiac big blocks, just Pontiac
You sir are correct, and I could’ve worded that differently sorry! It’s a bad habit I have! I think of them as “Big” compared to most of what we mess with sometimes 😅
Love this channel so so much! You guys always make these fun and do everything properly, which is really nice to see. This old car as well, holy heck, I have not seen one of these in years! A neighbour had one (and a massive Winnebago) here in Wales, UK, and it was bright green and pretty darn nice. Beautiful old cars! :D
Awesome job fellers can't wait to see more please please let see the ponys run I hope u all do a video on buffing that panot i bet that red would totally pop
Looks like it’s aChevy engine. Unless they just painted it 🤔🤷🏻Wow... that sounds amazing with the all the new bits on it... she is running nicely...
I really like your approach/style of reviving long forgotten automobiles.
Bringing them home versus attempting to drive them home.
Your methodical break down of the engine's systems in order to diagnose the reason a vehicle was abandoned is always superlative and compelling in my humble opinion.
I watch just a few of these resue channels and it is yours along with a select few that are No Nonsense Know How tutorials that pique my mechanical enthusiasm.
I've always loved Grand prixs as they're with ease my favourite Pontiac and for ages, 69-72s were my pick. the more I looked at 68s, they became my favourite. Gimme a 400 any old day and I'd be stoked.
Also 5:15 there's no such thing as Pontiac Big or small block. every block from a 265 to a 455 are all the same size blocks. Now there is small and large Journal Pontiac engines
What a cool car. Can’t wait to see this one go through the stages.
Pontiac "Blocks" weren't ""Big Blocks " contrary to popular belief😂 they were all the same 326 to 455.
Man, I love that old Falcon wagon over there, in the background!!
When are you dropping another video?
Old gas and gear oil are both bad smells you will never forget
Is a third one if you ever dealt with Swiss manufacturers equipment. The lube used in a CS-420's main indexer gear box is worse combination of baby puke and baby diarrhea smells put together😮. Instant puuuuke 😮😮
When I was 13 (1976) my dad bought a Grand Prix. When I was 14 my mother made my father trade it in because it was to fast. They got a Bonneville and I took my driver's test in it, the only car I could parallel park. When I was 18 (1981) I bought a 1977 Grand Prix, my mom was not trilled.
If You Want To You Could Use It Behind You're RV Camper If You Still Have It Still
Looks like a big GTO. I had a 68 LeMans and a 70 Judge.. wish I still had them..... pex
Pontiac never made a big block.
All the blocks are the same outside dimensions.
301 all the way up to 455. Same block size.
The shift pattern on those may be P-N-D-S-L-R versus the normal P-R-N-D-S-L
I had a 64 Pontiac station wagon when I was 16, and I remember that reverse was at the bottom of the shift pattern. Kinda weird.
A PROPER PONCHO! These came with the magnificent 428 as the optioned' up engine! What does this one have? Engine code? Head casting numbers?
Just gained a new sub and rung that bell! Hello from Sneads Ferry, NC! Is that the 428 motor or the 400? Thanks for getting another classic out of the junk yard to hopefully back on the road! Will you guys be selling this one? I have a 72 Grand Prix, huge fan of the old Pontiac's! Definitely wanna see more of this one!
It's just TOO long between episodes!! Doing a great job! Thanks for the education. I learn a lot from watching you.
Great video! Love my 68 LeMans. Did notice you’ve got the wire from the starter hooked to the wrong post on the alternator. Which is why it’s not charging. Good luck with that beauty!
Alternator Might Work Better If You Plug In The Wires
Like content. I have nothing against happiness and laughter but WOW. All that chucking reminds me of a Kamala Harris interview. Hard to watch.
I don’t get it. Carb, plugs, water pump, fuel pump, alternator all replaced on speculation?? Feels like you’re just creating content.
I still hate you. My wife may block Marketplace and Craigslist. What a great car! Some wheels and a buff job on the paint. I'd do a full Craigslist rebuild and get that motor back to Pontiac blue. I sure appreciate one torqueing to spec, the old German torque specs. Gud Enuff. Keep your videos coming to us and thanks for letting us tag along.
