valy0f actually it is about Gerard’s relationship with alcohol the term Jet Set life is a term for a social group of wealthily people who travel to participate in these social activities in which he is referring to the band because they’re constantly touring and during his early years of this he was going through bad depression in which he would abuse drugs and alcohol which almost made him commit suicide which is why the name of the song is “The Jetset Life Is Gonna Kill You” I found all this out through a very interesting documentary of MCR called Life on the murder scene you should check it out
Did you notice how almost every song leads into the next one? Interlude leading into Vemon, for example. Edit: I love how Gerard Way loses his shit just melting screaming his head off. You have Ray Toro and Frank Iero to thank for guitars. Also, the story is that a killer is sent to hell and he barters with the Devil for his lover's soul (Demolition Lovers, look it up). Her soul in exchange for the souls of 1000 evil men. He's getting his revenge on the ppl who killed them while trying to save her soul. He fails. Everything is muddled because the narrator is not only unreliable but absolutely insane. Some fans even theorize that all the albums connect into one big story.
I heard that in I never told you what i do for a living he discovers he is the last person he has to kill, because with killing all that evil people, he has become one. So he has to decide between staying alive or killing himself and saving her soul, knowing they'll never be back together. Also I heard that what killed her was the medications they used to take (thank you for the venom), and the man just dies in the end. If they were both dead from the beginning, when he dies they would be together in hell, so I guess it makes more sense.

20:35 the transition from the calm but growing, "never again, never again" from the crazy, desperate, "I CAN'T CLEAN THE BLOOD OFF THE SHEETS IN MY BED!" was immaculate, the chills were real.
oh wow this is a year late but: it’s also said that cemetery drive was written for a friend of Gerard’s who committed suicide (Maria Jose Santos). It’s written inside of the album that it was dedicated to her (alongside Elena). You might’ve known this but if u or others didn’t know that I just wanted to share. The song made a lil more sense after knowing this so :).
There are moments where this dude is so incredibly intuitive with lyrics, and then there's times where completely obvious messages just soar over his head
You should really watch a live performance of my chemical romance and just see the lead guitarist ripping apart the guitar! I think you would really love it considering that you kept saying in the video that you think the guitar is really really good 😆
When he said that the Jet-Set Life is Gonna Kill You is a love song it made me really sad because its true. It's about Gerard's addictions, which could absolutely be represented as a love song.
i just wanted to mention, the concept behind three cheers is particularly confusing to understand, and requires quite some research. unlike the black parade, mcr was much more vague in showing the meaning behind this album. the most supported theory though has a pretty awesome fictional element. it's about a man, and his lover gets shot and killed in a gunfight. he makes a deal with the devil to bring his her back to life by taking the lives of 1,000 evil men, to then find out he is the thousandth person, and him and girlfriend are both executed for his crimes. now it may be confusing to understand how it connects with the songs on the album, but after a couple listens and looking into the lyrics it makes a lot of sense. gerard also based the songs off of stories (ex. "to the end" was based off of a story called a rose for emily) and past experiences (helena was based off of his grandmother elena's death). ANYWAYS that was long but yeah even though its hard to dig out the story in the album its actually very interesting!
I still find it ironic when he mentions Radiohead influence on the interlude and uses Nude as an example but Three Cheers came out before In Rainbows lol
If you think the actual guitar is crazy and intense, you should see Frank Iero *playing* the guitar. Mother of Hottopic he is insane. A few things he's done while playing guitar: -kicked Gerard in the balls -bashed his guitar over a fair amount of heads -jumped off tall speakers *onto* people Just to name a few
Brad Taste in Music for example from this video you can pick out a song like thank you for the venom, try to interpret the lyrics on camera, and then going on genius.com or something and finding out what the artist was saying
Personnaly love the disorganization and craziness of this album. The Black Parade tells a complete story and lets you live in it. But Three Cheers gives you space to feel your own feelings and make sense of them
Funny enough, when Brad said "What is this, 210 BPM?" during Thank You for the Venom, he wasn't far off. The song is 212 BPM (according to the guitar tabs hehe :) )
Honestly probably not. Danger Days is more stripped back and not nearly as crazy and aggressive as the stuff on Black Parade and Three Cheers. I personally love it, but it's definitely a different, softer kind of album from the rest of their discography. Kind of an acquired taste I think.
YAASSS!!! Someone who appreciates the music for the MUSIC!!! Ray Toro is definitely one of the most underrated guitarists of all time. I've never heard his name mentioned in conversations about talented guitarists. What he did(and still does) was so amazing, and really it's one of the most obvious elements that carried the band. Also the drums. Everyone hates on Bob(and I don't actually remember if he recorded on this album- but I think he did... ) but he really did contribute so much to the band's sound. MCR wouldn't have been the same without his drum skills. Thanks for having an awesome- I mean- a Brad taste in music, Brad:)
Hey-o. Some context for the story in the album, you kinda got most of everything wrong. Our main character (who I will be calling "the Man") is killed along with his lover (they are believed to be the Demolition Lovers from MCR's first album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, who are killed at the end of the album). He makes a deal with the Devil, where is he brings the Devil the souls of 1000 evil men and women than he can be with his lover again. We can see signs of this in songs like You Know What They Do to Guys Like Me in Prison, where during the guitar solo, we hear the Man screaming that he is going to burn down a hotel in the hopes of raising the number of people he has killed. Also, during the time of recording this album, frontman Gerard Way was on a legendary alcoholic and drug abuse streak, and nearly killing himself. Drugs are mention in The Jetset Life is Gonna Kill You, where he says, "She bought the last line, of just the worst kind". The line is a line of cocaine, which Gerard was using at one point. There are also references to homosexuality throughout the album, such as in the chorus of You Know What They Do to Guys Like Me in Prison (Prison for short), where the Man says, "I don't know , How we're just two men as God had made us, Well, I can't, well, I can!" The Man is falling for another male in prison and begins to question his sexuality. He begins it to also question his mental stability in Prison, both because of his newfound attraction and because of the amount of killing he is doing, including the gunfight that got him arrested ("Am I losing myself?"). Now that we've brought it back to the 1000 souls he must bring, we can talk about I Never Told You What I Do For a Living. In this song, after taking 999 souls to the Devil, the Man realizes that the Devil (unsurprisingly) tricked him and that the 1000th evil soul the Man's own. He will be sent straight to Hell, while his lover will go to Heaven. He will never see her again, and he realizes that after all the atrocities he has committed, he knows that's how it is best. The Man says, "And it's better off this way, so much better off this way , I can't clean the blood off the sheets in my bed". He can't undo his actions. He doesn't deserve to be with her and she doesn't deserve to have to see the monster he's become. In the last line of the album, "And we're all dead, now", the Man has comes to terms with the fact that he, as well as the 999 people he has killed, are dead, and shall never walk the Earth ever again. They are no more, their stories are over.
I would actually be really interested to get your thoughts on bullets, though not necessarily in a reaction video (but c'mon, ya need that sweet yellow icon $$$). I don't think you'll enjoy it as much as these two last albums because it was... recorded in a basement... BUT I still enjoy to listen to it as a kinda weird proto-mychem record lmao
It's about his grandma, her death inspired the album. Helena was about her. She was the "she" in Welcome to the Black Parade. She was a big supporter of the band. She bought them a van when they started and bought Gerard his first guitar. She was a big artisic influence for the Way brothers. Also, Danger Days or other P!at stuff. Really enjoy your stuff, keep it up
Would love to see a Danger Days video. A lot of what twenty one pilots tries to do MCR nailed. Don't waste your time with their first album. It was a basement recording so they'd have something to sell at shows. Three Cheers really was the first album that got praise for them. The Black Parade is an iconic masterpiece. Danger Days is really solid though. It doesn't tell a story, but there is a theme. A radio station blast from 2019, that a gang of rebels listens to outside of a place called battery city. It really is a great album, with a lot more happy themes. Really need to check it out
Luke PixlerREVIEWS actually MCR only had bullets when they got big ...why do you think revenge sold so well when they released it? Because the people really liked bullets
The only lil dicky song I listen to is Molly ft Brendon Urie.... and it's surprisingly good!! I've listened to one other song of his and was immediately disappointed lmao
You’re a really good critic, you’re funny and honest and that’s why I watch you. I also love your editing and everything, I very much appreciate the time you put in to each video to make it the best it could be Sorry that was really cheesy Please react to Billie Eilish - don’t smile at me, it’s not explosive but I think it’s a really beautiful ep with a great sound and a great message also it’s not boring and it’s only got 8 songs so you won’t have to do much editing
you should react to "conventional weapons" by mcr. it was released as like 5 eps and idk what you use to listen to these albums but in its entirety its on youtube
So about the concept of the album, one thing that a lot of people don't know is that all of their first 3 albums are related in concept. On their first album, essentially there's a couple that are bandits and they get caught up in some shit and the girl ends up dying in a gunfight. Then the devil comes to the guy and tells him that they can be reunited if he takes the lives of 1000 evil men. "Three Cheers" is the story of him taking the lives of those evil men. It starts with the funeral of his partner and then shows him going after all of the people he's supposed to kill (Give Em Hell, Kid, Hang Em High, etc), evading the police (You Know What They Do...), and mourning her death (Ghost of You, Cemetary Drive). Then at the end, he finds out the last name on the list is his own name and he'll be joining her in hell. The Black Parade is more of a thematic followup to this as it deals with him approaching and accepting death. There are callbacks to this story on The Sharpest Lives, Sleep, Mama, and House of Wolves, but it also adds in the sickness/cancer theme and has a lot of reflecting back on the life he's led. The connection is pretty tenuous and The Black Parade works better as a standalone, but the connection is still there. Three Cheers could have done a better job at telling the story, but they were still learning how to make a concept album and the things they learned there directly inspired The Black Parade.
The whole concept of the album is kind of a retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice where the main character is a hitman whose wife dies in a gunfight. In order to bring her back, he makes a deal with the devil to bring him the souls of 1000 evil men and in the end, he finds out he's the last one. I interpret "I Never Told you What I Do for a Living" as the main character saying his goodbyes to the wife bc he knows he has to sacrifice himself to bring her back. He's essentially confessing his sins to her. In the end there's this cathartic scream of " I can't get the blood off the sheets in my bed" which I interpret as the speaker finally breaking down as he reckons with his guilty conscious over all the people he's killed. That's just how I see it though!
Actual words that Bradley said: Stay out my way, José or you'll pay, and you'll pray that the day never happened that you crossed my WAY. The pun probably wasn't intended but come on
The last song on this album always makes me cry a little and I’m kinda ashamed of it lol, but the ending is THAT powerful, the part when he screams I TRIED tears my heart apart
Jetset can be interpreted as being about Gerard’s past alcohol/drug dependence, but told in the story of a toxic relationship. Adds a whole other layer of depth to the song which I appreciate, especially because of how far he has come and recovered from it.
Yeah his voice is shit in those songs. Don't suger coat it. Still good because he's a great artist, but nonetheless, would be improved by a rerecording. I am a huge mcr fan, but I admit his voice failed in that album. It cracked in every high note. Still great tho. Just gotta say that
@@irisghorbani1537 I wouldn't be suprised if he was but I heard that he just had severe tooth pain, which is why he sounds like he is crying sometimes because he is in physical agony
As someone who has been a fan of My Chem for 13 years, I'm really enjoying your reactions to hearing the music for the first time. It really takes me back to the first time I heard it.
Gerard stated "the story of a man and a woman who are separated by death in a gunfight and he goes to hell only to realize by the devil telling him that she's still alive. The devil says he can be with her again if he brings the devil the souls of a thousand evil men and the man agrees to do it." But the 1000th soul ended up being his own, therefore, all of the people he killed ended up being in vain hence him yelling "I tried!" over and over again towards the end of the closing song as well as "I lied" because he promised her they would see each other again. Crushing shit. (Also great video, love your work)
Good video brad boy, it was worth the wait. Personally i still think Three Cheers is better than Black Parade, but its mainly cause of 2 aspects that don't really have to do with MCR and more so with me 1. I've always been a guy who prefers good ass instrumentals over clever lyrics. I will completely agree that the lyrics and writing of Three Cheers are not as strong as Black Parade, but the riffs and melodies in Three Cheers just hit me like a goddamn truck. The flow and vivacious energy in songs like You Know What They do to Guys Like us in Prison and Hang em' High just launch me into another dimension. While I adore Mama and Sleep, most of the songs off Black Parade just don't do that to me like the songs off Three Cheers do. 2. When I was getting into MCR (more specifically Three Cheers at that point) I was playing a game called Persona 3, which has since become one of my all time favorite games. I would constantly listen to it whilst playing, as the sound and general lyrics of Three Cheers really just worked with the drab melancholic atmosphere the game created, and its messages about death and such. So whenever I listen to it now, my brain connects it to Persona 3 and I just get hit with so many good vibes. It's just a symbiosis that my brain concocted. Honestly I feel like had I listened to Black Parade first like you did, I would probably not like Three Cheers as much as I do, cause I do think that in many ways Black Parade is an improvement. I just have an emotional connection with this album that I don't with Black Parade. (side note personal suggestion thing: Have you ever listened to A Day To Remember? They're a neat post-hardcore band with some elements of pop-punk in there too. A lot of their stuff is booming explosive music, but they also branch out into just deadass hard metal songs, or soft acoustic ballads. Personal favorites are their albums For Those Who Have Heart and Common Courtesy. I think you should check them out. You could react to them or just listen to them in your free time if you want)
I'm just waiting for his reaction of cemetery drive His reaction was exactly what I was hoping for, he made the album art connection and could here the emotional edge of the lyrics and vocals
You should check out their 2010 album “Danger Days: the True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys” it’s not quite as metal as the other albums by them but I think it’s under appreciated.
As a long time fan of MCR, (I am 33 years old btw), I really enjoyed your reaction to this album. This is my favorite album from MCR, as I was in high school when it came out so it had the biggest impact on me plus i love the rawness yet refined sound of this album. Thank you for making an entertaining video.
three cheers is one of those albums where you realize more and more that the message is more clear then the black parade. its put together to sound psychotic to give the vibes of hatred and anger and by the time you get to i never told you what i do for a living you realize the concept

I just wanted to say, dont know why. Cemetery Drive is written for Mikey Way, Gerard Way's brother.

So is The Ghost of You
Especially famous last words
oh wow this is a year late but: it’s also said that cemetery drive was written for a friend of Gerard’s who committed suicide (Maria Jose Santos).
Did he just understand that mcr isn't emo without being told, holy crap my level of respect for him quadrupled which I didn't think was possible
16:34 gerard: singing songs that make you slit your wrists
brad: THIS IS SO DELIGHTFUL!!!
You should really watch a live performance of my chemical romance and just see the lead guitarist ripping apart the guitar! I think you would really love it considering that you kept saying in the video that you think the guitar is really really good 😆
And Frank on the floor
Ray is a guitar god no cap
That aint a theory, its literally what its abt
@@jeremywaygay right didn't Gerard literally say "this is a story about a man, his lover, and a thousand evil souls"?
@@MCDreng rightt like he SAID flat out what the album was about 😭
Every time you thought they were going to stay together they do something different and break up
sammy 1433 😭😭😭😭😭😭
Uhm
I pictured Gerard as a carpenter, a laundromat owner, and a bouncer and I can't decide which is funniest.
I still find it ironic when he mentions Radiohead influence on the interlude and uses Nude as an example but Three Cheers came out before In Rainbows lol
Interlude does sound like Radiohead tho tbh lol
Weird though that the song he compared it to came out after this
@@patrickgibsonmusic interlude also sounds like something off of amnesiac or kid a too
If you think the actual guitar is crazy and intense, you should see Frank Iero *playing* the guitar. Mother of Hottopic he is insane. A few things he's done while playing guitar:
-kicked Gerard in the balls
-bashed his guitar over a fair amount of heads
-jumped off tall speakers *onto* people
Just to name a few
And the usual routine is spasming on the floor
A video of Brad slowly falling in love with Ray Toro
REACT TO I BROUGHT YOU MY BULLETS YOU BROUGHT YOUR LOVE
YES YES YES GOD HE WOULD LOVE IT
AGREEED
Jasdeep Singh no, stop
Danger days first
He wont like it
You should do a series where you try and break down the lyrics of songs that you've reviewed that caught your attention
Brad Taste in Music for example from this video you can pick out a song like thank you for the venom, try to interpret the lyrics on camera, and then going on genius.com or something and finding out what the artist was saying
Brad Taste in Music or you can pick out like 3 or 4 songs from an album and read the lyrics before making an album review
+Rudy Sanchez yes!!
i started laughing when you mentioned flute and auto tuned harmonica and haven’t yet stopped
all the emos screaming in the distance bc he finally uploaded this video
Andrea Marcano I've been waiting for this for so long
Emos in 2018?
I saw the pic and I thought I made a comment that I didn’t remember
Can you hear the emos? (In the distance) YAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSAS BRAAAAAD!!!!!!!!
Andrea Marcano not many left
I feel like in the songs Gerard is yelling at someone but he waits until they have left the room to curse them out
Personnaly love the disorganization and craziness of this album.
Danger Days? Would he like Danger Days?
CreatureSoul446. No
I feel like he'd like Bulletproof Heart, Save Yourself, Destroya and maybe Sing. The rest, I'm not sure. But that album isn't as "explosive" so idk
Yeah, personally I like it a lot, but I feel like he wouldn’t
Honestly probably not. Danger Days is more stripped back and not nearly as crazy and aggressive as the stuff on Black Parade and Three Cheers. I personally love it, but it's definitely a different, softer kind of album from the rest of their discography. Kind of an acquired taste I think.
I feel like he would like most of it.
How has this channel not blown up yet? XD
Interlude has kind of become one of my favorites songs on the album. It’s like a calming prayer before TYFTV. The words themselves is beautiful.
There are also references to homosexuality throughout the album, such as in the chorus of You Know What They Do to Guys Like Me in Prison (Prison for short), where the Man says, "I don't know
, How we're just two men as God had made us, Well, I can't, well, I can!" The Man is falling for another male in prison and begins to question his sexuality.
The Man says, "And it's better off this way, so much better off this way
, I can't clean the blood off the sheets in my bed".
Really enjoy your stuff, keep it up
The song: "Singing songs that make you slit your wrists..."
Brad: *"tHaT'S dElIgHtFuL!!!"*
3:05 ''It sounds like Radiohead''
that killed me, and now i see the Interlude in a new way xD
Would love to see a Danger Days video. A lot of what twenty one pilots tries to do MCR nailed.
Don't waste your time with their first album. It was a basement recording so they'd have something to sell at shows. Three Cheers really was the first album that got praise for them. The Black Parade is an iconic masterpiece.
Danger Days is really solid though. It doesn't tell a story, but there is a theme. A radio station blast from 2019, that a gang of rebels listens to outside of a place called battery city. It really is a great album, with a lot more happy themes. Really need to check it out
Luke PixlerREVIEWS their first album in the best imo but sure
shhh bullets is amazing
Luke PixlerREVIEWS actually MCR only had bullets when they got big
...why do you think revenge sold so well when they released it? Because the people really liked bullets
Bullets is superior to Danger Days by far
Bullets is horrible
Gerard really brought so much passion and I think his vocals are seriously underrated
I'm making this so I can come back to my favorite moments 😌:
5:24, 7:48, 9:09, 10:18, 11:20, 13:25, 13:54, 14:36, 16:26, 19:34, 20:33
The only lil dicky song I listen to is Molly ft Brendon Urie.... and it's surprisingly good!! I've listened to one other song of his and was immediately disappointed lmao
Lol, I don't think you heard the line 'singing song that make you wanna slight your wrists.' in cemetery drive
You’re a really good critic, you’re funny and honest and that’s why I watch you. I also love your editing and everything, I very much appreciate the time you put in to each video to make it the best it could be
Sorry that was really cheesy
Please react to Billie Eilish - don’t smile at me, it’s not explosive but I think it’s a really beautiful ep with a great sound and a great message also it’s not boring and it’s only got 8 songs so you won’t have to do much editing
you should react to "conventional weapons" by mcr. it was released as like 5 eps and idk what you use to listen to these albums but in its entirety its on youtube
Cemetery Drive is my second all time favorite MCR song next to Drowning Lessons
Pause at 19:29 and take note of the official orgasmic "I'm listening to MCR right now" face! 😆🤘
I feel like you would either really love or hate their song Demolition Lovers
he didn't like it :/ like hated all of bullets but I get that it's not for everybody
Old school brad :) one of the first videos i watched
Give us some green day
Omar Vizquel lol TB saga
honestly

this is the first thing i watched as soon as i woke up and now i'm so hyped thank you
The whole concept of the album is kind of a retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice where the main character is a hitman whose wife dies in a gunfight.
Actual words that Bradley said:
Stay out my way, José or you'll pay, and you'll pray that the day never happened that you crossed my WAY.
The pun probably wasn't intended but come on
14:15
"My Chemical Romance in general, they don't run out of ideas"
Aiight, who's gonna tell him?
who's gonna tell youuu
The last song on this album always makes me cry a little and I’m kinda ashamed of it lol, but the ending is THAT powerful, the part when he screams I TRIED tears my heart apart
Jetset can be interpreted as being about Gerard’s past alcohol/drug dependence, but told in the story of a toxic relationship. Adds a whole other layer of depth to the song which I appreciate, especially because of how far he has come and recovered from it.
Dude I literally watch your MCR reviews twice a month. These are amazing.
React to MCRs first album, it's the prequel to three cheers and it's absolutely amazing. (Though his vocal delivery in that album is a bit weird)
Yeah, Gerard was drunk during the recording of most of the songs. It's very...haunting? I like it.
@@burhbruhbruhbruhbruh4542 I know it's been 4 years but honestly I like the voice cracks it brings the emotion yk
@@sporkzzz goddamn bro thank you for bringing me back to this comment. was such a huge mcr fan back then.

I just loved to watch him ascending to oblivion while listening to Hang 'Em High
As someone who has been a fan of My Chem for 13 years, I'm really enjoying your reactions to hearing the music for the first time. It really takes me back to the first time I heard it.
"this is the most hot topic rock Ive ever heard"
me: THATS THE POINT
Personally i still think Three Cheers is better than Black Parade, but its mainly cause of 2 aspects that don't really have to do with MCR and more so with me
I'm just waiting for his reaction of cemetery drive
His reaction was exactly what I was hoping for, he made the album art connection and could here the emotional edge of the lyrics and vocals
