Just in case you didn't know the concept for the album, it's loosely based on a man and woman who die in a gunfight and are separated by death. The man goes to hell and learns from the devil that his love is still alive, but he can only be with her again if he brings the devil the souls of 1,000 evil men. The man agrees and the devil gives him a gun. However, after the reaping of the 999th soul, the man realizes that the thousandth soul he has to kill is himself - staying separated from his love for all eternity. What I wouldn't give to see this as a stage play 😢
3:06 Gerard Way, the lead singer, is the one who drew the cover art! He's actually a really talented artist and has written multiple comic books, including The Umbrella Academy which got turned into a show in 2019 and just ended this year.
this album and the black parade are the most famous and loved albums, but the "I Brought You My Bullets, You Brouthy Me Your Love" and the "Danger Days" are two great albums too!! i recommend these for your reaction!! big beijo from brasil ❤ (beijo means kiss)
My high school years were so flooded with MCR, AFI, and Rise Against. Having become more of a metal-core guy in my mid-30s, Architects' Lost Forever // Lost Together is such a massive album I'd recommend it to anyone keen on going a touch heavier.
@kawaiwatermelon My mistake. Bob did do the drumming on arguably their best album Welcome to the Black Parade. But you are right there was a different Drummer.
That entire reaction to Thank You For The Venom was very relatable, and I loved your connection to the lyrics throughout the album! Please if you can EVER get tickets to go see these guys, do yourself a favour, the energy is insane and you’ll never forget it❤ Seeing that you really enjoyed Gerard’s crazy vocals and the punk-ier guitar on this album, you might actually enjoy their first album Bullets a lot! Bullets is what people often call an unrefined version of Revenge, but in truth it’s just a moodier sort of sound, and a little more lofi due to them being on an independent label at the time. The fourth album “Danger Days” is sort of like, a cyberpunk rock n roll radio show. Very different to what you enjoyed here, but amazing guitar and a fun time all the same. Keep in mind, despite changes in sound, MCR has always done what they wanted to and been an authentic band. They just pull from different influences each time :))
Ima do their first album next ! & I have to watch their show you’re right I’m loving Them this is amazing !!! & Thank you for the venom is top tier 🤦🏾♂️🔥
danger days is awesome if you want something very different from black parade and three cheers! their first album bullets is great if you want a more ruff around the edges or early sound from them, theres some good B sides or extra songs that are good too
You need to listen their first album. BULLETS. To me, the best album of them. It's raw and kinda brutal as it was made right after 09/11 which Gerard actually testified.
as a hugee mcr fan . a couple notes for u in response to some stuff u said - the album cover is actually drawn by gerard way who is responsible for a popular comic book series n adaptation called the umbrella academy . personally id call it too melodramatic compared to mcr and the reason being is simply that i don't think his comic writing (for this series at least) has enough character or life to Elevate the drama in the way that the band's music does . - i dont know if this album has any songs id drop from the tracklisting but i totally understand feeling that way and if i had to remove any to cut it down i could definitely most easily do without im not okay and cemetery drive . if u wanna take out a third id say jetset life . theyre all good songs but as somebody who has heard this album Hundreds of times to me these are easily the ones from three cheers that have the least meat on the bone and i get tired of them much more easily than the rest - if you wanna know where to look next with mcr's discography i would either listen to Bullets orrrr check out The Black Parade is Dead on youtube ! its official footage of both the final show of the black parade tour (if you arent big on mama or sleep this is where theyd win u over cause gerard loves performing those two in particular and it shows) and then a smaller more intimate show at a venue they played at for some of their first shows ever . other than that... there are two three cheers era b sides, with one being a demo that sounds very much like a demo with some good ideas and its called bury me in black . the other song, called desert song, is one of my personal mcr favorites . just one or two guitars and gerards voice and it was never really meant to be released but its about basically his experience touring n being in the band and being suicidal n also a bunch of drug problems he used to have . the band part if u ask me is lowkey corny but his vocal performance on that song is something u dont really get to hear from him on anynother song . he just kinda recorded it wasted appologies for being long winded but listen bro if u ask im gonna tell
Yoooo na you’re the best thanks for the insight fr! WOW umbrella academy?! I watch that show that’s odee & yea you’re right after the like 5th listen I’m LOVING this album in shock at the replay value !!
You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison is genuinely one of my favourite things ever recorded - basically, it's about gay sex, and the way the songwriting utilizes gender ambiguity all throughout, and plays with tropes of queer-coded action film villainy in the first verse, is just masterful. There are *many* ways one can reasonably interpret the several relationships portrayed here that I won't weigh in on, but the lyrics make it pretty explicit that this isn't being played straight or even for plausible deniability - the narrator really is discovering their sexuality over the course of the song. Above all, though, I just love the incredible density of the story being told here. In under three minutes, we get a dramatic speech, an arrest, a whole narrative arc about the things the narrator learns about himself in prison, (it's left ambiguous) either a prison escape by burning the prison down or adding some more bodies to his kill count by burning a hotel down, and even an emotional resolution in the final chorus where the narrator makes peace with himself.
Love you breaking it down so well. You really GET it. I’m sticking around for sure. Also, looking forward to your reaction to SOAD they are my favorite
I was born in 01 and as soon as I was about 5, my dad showed me MCR, and I fell in love. I’m 22 now, and I still love them, they have such an intricate and beautiful way of weaving narratives throughout not only their songs, but their albums as a whole. It really seemed like someone giving a voice to those young, angst filled feelings. Thanks for reviewing and commentating on it brother.
in "you know what they do to guys like us in prison" it's about the horrible things going on in prison, knowing from the title itself🕊️ gerard had talked about it before
Honestly subscribed when you started breaking down the bar about "this whole you put me on wasn't deep enough" and " I've lost my fear of falling" heart analysis bro
MCR's first album I Brought You Bullets is great, but you can definitely tell it was their first. Danger Days is their other major, as well as their last album. It's the least favorite generally, and a lot of people straight up don't like it because it differs so much from their established sound. When I first tried to listen back when I was in middle school I didn't like it either, but now I actually enjoy the album! I think it's fun and a nice reprieve from their usual stuff. It does suffer from being a bit too long imo tho. Oh also The Light Behind Your Eyes from Conventional Weapons is worth a listen.
it was such a joy to watch you react to this album! would be so interested to see you react to some live performances. If you're looking for another album to do, Danger Days is great - and very different from the two you've already done!
There are two more albums you should react to! Danger days which is their last/ most recent album and I brought you my bullets you brought me your love which is their first album! They also have an EP collection called conventional weapons that I recommend listening to also! Also, all the albums have a backstory ! There really long so I can’t explain it in detail in one comment but three cheers is about two lovers that died in a gunfight and got separated in the afterlife, the guy makes a deal with the devil that if he kills 1000 evil men then he can be reunited with his lover, so the album is about him trying to kill everyone but at the last song (I never told you what I do for a living) he figures out that the 1000th evil man is himself and so he is forever separated from his lover (hence the repetition of I tried in the last verse and also “never again, never again , they gave us two shots to the back of the head and we’re all dead now”)
I love this. A true concept album. This is the best way to experience this band in my opinion. Just 100% bangers from start to finish. So unique but they fit together like a glove.
Their catalog isn't large however, they made some of the best music videos. You should honestly give them a look. Ghost of You video is probably my favorite but, honestly they are all top teir.
This album; Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, has earned my number one spot alongside System Of A Down, for best vocal performance ever. Gerard is simply amazing, even after he hurted his voice alot from screaming the wrong way in the first album “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love” which is basically about a guy thats forced to kill his wife. Fun fact, the lead singer Gerard Way, actually drew the album cover for Three Cheers himself!
I wish you would react to their videos, they’re so amazing! Gerard Way is a very visual artist as well and their visual aesthetic is a huge part of their performance. (He also did the album art) Helena is by far my favorite.
You should check out Bring Me the Horizon! Start with their album Sempiternal! BMtH is a band like Linkin Park that has gone through major evolutions throughout their career and Sempiternal is the perfect middle ground between the old and new eras of the band
If we want to stick with the theme following the conclusion of the MCR deep dive... two other emo legends, both worthy of full discographical deep dives, would be Brand New and American Football. Brand New are closer to MCR in sound (but still very distinct), whereas American Football is an ENTIRELY different animal. They created a whole new genre in fact, known as Midwest Emo, which has been chasing their sound for decades. It is nothing like typical Emo and a lot more melancholic and subdued, known for its twinkly guitars and softer vocals.
Bro if you’re digging all the guitar stuff def check out this band Queens of the Stone Age. Their albums “Songs for the Deaf” and “Like Clockwork” are must listens respectively Love the content you put out bro keep it up 💪🤝
PLEASE indulge us with MCR’s Danger Days album. It pulls you in a bit of a different direction, a different vibe, but I think it’s stellar. Maybe do a little reading on the concept (which was turned into a small comic by the same name) so you can better understand what’s happening. Your reactions are so fun to watch btw. Keep doing what makes you happy!
5:00 this part made me laugh because MCR and rock band were genuinely my two biggest inspirations for starting guitar when i was 14. you should definitely do it!! playing instruments is literally my therapy like it has saved my life if you want to listen to another MCR album, i'd suggest danger days! it's pretty different from their other albums and is honestly unlike any other album i know. it has elements of pop/dance music but is still very much rock and roll with dark themes and deep storytelling. it has some of the most high energy songs they've ever made, and i think you'd love it. i'd also love to see you watch MCR in concert for the first time. their most iconic ones are the black parade is dead from 2007 th-cam.com/video/Ud2eziOjjTo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gRmPry0yX4yaogU- and reading 2011 th-cam.com/video/uNsPusX5WtM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=7D5SJLVSqE20HP0Q

You should try out Ocean Avenue by Yellowcard, great pop punk band and album and super underrated (even though it's Yellowcard's most popular album, it's still insanely underrated). Super underrated drummer and guitarist too
I've never listened to this album proper before. Just the main hits. (Love I'm not okay) Helena is fun. Not too bad. Don't love it but can see why they were huge. Great musicians. Counting down the days for your next Linkin Park reaction dude.
also another emo album you could check out is sempiternal by bring me the horizon, they're just like linkin park and they're really a huge band, you'll probably love them! ❤
Pleaseeee please please react to the Bad Vibrations album by A Day to Remember it will be a really diverse listening experience, since you’ve been breaking into the rock scene with the MCR and Linkin Park reactions!!!!
love this album, great reaction! if you liked this album I would suggest listening to teens of denial by car seat headrest and worry. by jeff rosenstock😁
I’m here to once again ask you to react to Fall Out Boy Albums: infinity on high Foile a deux So much for stardust They have more but to dip your toes in haha Also YESSIE by Jessie Reyez Thank you thank youuuu
I want to listen to them badddd I just have to finish a few discographies first so towards the end of the year I’ll start them I appreciate you! & Jessie Reyez too!!
Nah! 13 songs are not enough for this album. Why people nowadays get bored so easily?! This generation are incapable of enjoying deep and long stuffs. Most of them are all about quick and simple shit
their album before this, bullets, is my personal favourite. After Black Parade, nothing is worth listening to from them, to be brutally honest. that transition from ghost of you to the jetset life was my favourite when I was 13 😭
Just in case you didn't know the concept for the album, it's loosely based on a man and woman who die in a gunfight and are separated by death. Green Day!
And Fall Out Boy!
Nah! 13 songs are not enough for this album. Why people nowadays get bored so easily?! This generation are incapable of enjoying deep and long stuffs. Most of them are all about quick and simple shit
their album before this, bullets, is my personal favourite. After Black Parade, nothing is worth listening to from them, to be brutally honest. that transition from ghost of you to the jetset life was my favourite when I was 13 😭
Lmaoo that’s real! Ima listen to their first one then be done !
