    The Yamaha FZ-09 / MT-09 is an extremely popular motorcycle here in California. The stock suspension is fair-to-middling, but the bike actually deserves proper suspension bits.

    one MEGA thank U is not enough...!!!! There is always space for improvement! Everyone can move a step up in the ladder of moto-knowledge by watching and learning from you !!! Is the least I/we can say, for the knowledge and the deep details that you are transmitted to us via this TH-cam channel. Moral lesson: there is always space for improvement and with your experience, everyone can climb one step UP in the ladder of knowledge in the motorcycle world. "Discover" you almost 11 years ago by "on the throttle tv" and still learning and understanding the suspension environment...!!! Thank you very much from sunny Greece!!!

    Great ! What make of oil (10w) do you use ? There is a big difference in CST between makes for same weight. CST seems to be a better reference, wish manufactures would stamp that on bottles. Maybe I’m getting that wrong ?

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      cSt is a far better reference tool and if you look for the technical data by Googling a fork oil viscosity chart, you will find most fork oils aggregated.

      Hello Christian. Yes, a rear damper would be required so your choices are Nitron, K-Tech, Ohlins, Wilbers etc. Go with European brands for parts and servicing.

    Hello dave do you think a fzr600 from around 1990 is good for a first time trackbike?

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daniil. That era 600 had a great frame and reasonable engine. 20w or 30w in the forks with the correct springs would be a cheap and easy upgrade. Difficult part would be finding a more "modern" shock for it. The 06 GSXR 600/750 Shock (has a horizontal reservior and a yellow spring). Same goes for the 06 R6 shock (horizontal res and a red spring). Those two seem to be the best fit from what I can tell. But you may still have to swap spring because those shocks are coming from bikes that are much lighter than the 600.

    New rider. Just got my license. Looking at this bike as my first. Maybe a 7 instead of the nine. Should I avoid it due to the poor suspension? Or just figure replacing the suspension as part of the cost of purchase?

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome to our sport and congrats on passing your license! Budget bikes get budget suspension. Which one are you most comfortable on? Which one gives you more foot contact. Which one feel natural with the handlebars and levers? All questions that need to be answered.

    • @TheMcTimzo
      @TheMcTimzo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a 7 in the same situation as a new rider. I bought it used with about 7k km on it and the bike has 2 problems for me, really. The first is suspension and the other is on/off throttle jerkiness (because of the fueling). Both can be fixed, I did Dave's fix on the front forks and it is a must do if you get the bike. Rear shock has to be replaced - I am bouncing on the road with the stock one constantly. The throttle issues can be fixed with a tune. But, as Dave said, ride the bike(s), test them, see what fits best

    • @shannonchurchill4556

      I have a 2014 FZ-09 which had the terrible suspension. I spent the cash for a Penske rear shock, stiffer front springs with a revalve. The stock shock is junk. Period. The whole bike is much more confident than it was stock.

I live in the central valley about an hour os so east of San Fran. Would the f3 800 be a good bike for my first bike? When I get a bike, could I bring it to you for ergonomics and suspension fitting? Thnx.

    Can someone help me..? Just touching the suspension on my used 2021 MT-09 SP. basically stock, went to adjust slow speed compression on the front fork and only one side clicks, the other(right brake side) is stuck and turns the whole nut rather than click the inside adjuster. I don’t feel like that’s right or maybe I’m dumb. Read the entire manual and didn’t find anything on suspension.

    • @catalystreactionsbw
      @catalystreactionsbw  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The question is if the screw is stuck on the maximum or minimum setting? Hold the nut with a 14mm wrench/spanner and gently try clockwise or counter clockwise to free the screw. The metal is soft on the screw so get a tight fit with the screwdriver.

    I have to say it, It doesn't seem to me at all that you apply the same force on the back of the bike on 00:37 vs 1:14
    With that difference, of course, the guy doesn't bounce as much.
    But hey, they seem happy in the end.
