They should come film some videos in San Francisco or Los Angeles, call it the "armed robbery" edition! Watching them just walk the streets with $10,000 USD in gear, is amazing! Nobody even tried to rob them or looked at them as a target, lol. Just strolling around with all that gear, Leica none the less, but criminals probably don't know what Leica is, but they know cameras are expensive, because everyone knows just a new iPhone Max costs $1400 USD! I love how we can just watch and enjoy the entire reviews, because if you shot a review in San Francisco we'd probably only get a 1/4 review, and then you'd be robbed at rusty knife point.

The S5II was the first camera with L² technology (I think it was regarding the image processing and propably autofocus too) - which is basically a joint venture of Leica and Panasonic.
So it's no wonder that Leica also takes advantage of this partnership.

Owned the Q2. Point-n-shoot, unrepairable-anything body & lens. The little plastic auto focus lock button broke. Leica said, can't be fixed. Whole lens assembly replaced, $2,500. Also if you get any dust on the sensor, bill to clean is enormous. That camera can not handle any dust and if you got dust issues, there's no warranty (even though Leica claims quite the opposite about the ruggedness). Buy it, just know it's probably less repairable than an iPhone.

The Q3 is priced way, way beyond any mass market camera! (I saw a review titled 'Leica Q3 - the perfect everyday camera' NO it's f**king not)

I use my Q3 with the battery grip, thumb grip and finger loop…works perfectly for one hand shooting especially when using the Q2 leather holster (fits fine) which is way better than having an annoying fixed strap.
Absolutely love the camera, a big improvement on the Q2.
Image quality and dynamic range is unbelievably good, the build quality and ergonomic design is second to none.
I think it’s sad that a lot of people put this camera down as a ‘rich kids toy’…as they are missing out on experiencing a photographic gem.
Or comparing it to a Fuji (I own an Xpro 3) etc as something that can compete with it 😂, it’s like comparing a Steinway piano to a Yamaha, a Gibson electric guitar to an Epiphone…anyone who has genuinely used and experienced the real thing knows these comparisons hold no water.
I sold my Canon R5 and pro lenses to purchase the Q3 and I have zero regrets, the R5s image quality is way behind this, then there’s the user experience of the Q3 which is such a joy, I’m motivated to take it everywhere with me.

  • @paulsehstedt6275

I've the Q as a backup camera, for short video shootings and macro, nothing else. I was the first customer in Denmark to hold and test the Q3, but I wouldn't use it more often as I do my Q. The tilt screen is a big plus. Furthermore, I'll stick to my M240s because of the possibility to change lenses. Anyway, very stylish review of the Q3.

The Q3 hybrid AF has CDAF, DFD, and PDAF, and it is the borrowed-from-Panasonic DFD that gives it the lightning fast AF not the PDAF. PDAF is perhaps better at tracking and recognition. However CDAF is always used to finalise and lock focus because it is the most accurate (and as you noted, in low light). Hybrid because all three are integrated and work together.

  • @DonFather

Honestly I think most Q3 buyers are going to buy a thumb grip and you can always wrap that neck strap around your wrist several times so that it goes nowhere. So weight & slipperiness are non issues. If you like that camera & can afford it, go get her!

But about the camera: when you punch into 50 mm it seems the Q3 basically gives you the same experience as a Panasonic GX9 with a 25 mm Sumilux and by the time you go for the 90 mm view it's way lower resolution than the GX9 with a Nocticron... (but I suppose that the wireless charging is still neat) 😉

Kai, Lok is right. It’s bloody huge! Just look at the Sony RX1 MII for compact full frame goodness! I know it’s older than the universe and so has less functionality but It’s an order of magnitude smaller than the Q3 (I may be exaggerating but only slightly). Maybe the lens isn’t quite as good as the Zeiss on the Sony but then again it’s not five and a half grand! I reckon if Sony updated it, Leica may have some competition on its hands with the more hard-up end of the photographer spectrum (and I use that word cautiously)!

    I sold my Q2 Monochrom after I got a Q1.
I fell in love with the Q1 over the Q2M along with other M bodies.
Recently I got a Q-P for a long time use since I love the Q1 which I listed for sale.
Q-P is beautiful and absolutely the best looking Q among all the Q series including limited editions.
I don’t like the Ghost edition, Reporter edition, Dawn edition, etc.
    Finally Q3 came out.
    Unfortunately nothing special.
Same lens (Q1, Q2, Q3 all same lens)
    I don’t need that huge 60MP.
24MP with my Q-P is pretty enough.
    I don’t like a tilting screen.
    I don’t need 8k video as I don’t shoot video.
I will buy a Sony camera for video if I’m in need of one for shooting video.
And the design is identical to Q2.
    It’s just like upgrading a few functions so I would say it’s a Q2U(pgrade), not Q3.
    Price is $5995.
    Around $6500 after tax.
No reason to upgrade at all.
I will keep my lovely Q-P and then
    1)
I will use $6500 for other electronics such as Samsung 85” TV, iMac, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook for about $3500.
And I will buy Sony/Canon camera and lens + accessories for video for about $3000.
    Or,
    2)
I will use $6500 to buy a SL2/SL2-S and SL 24-90mm lens while I keep my lovely Q-P.
Answer is quite clear about the Q3.

I can't get excited usually about Leica or the ethos they drive, their adverts to street users are only just recently getting there. I hate to confess this review could easily sway me to buy one, its makes sense and looks brilliant to use, functional , practical and smart. I think I'd still use a X100T or x100F or Ricoh GR, or Epson RD-1 over the Leica. It's still a show off brand, but arguably perfect all round lifestyle camera. Great video reviews as always, God bless.

What lavalier mic do you use for your Rode Wireless Go? It sounds amazing in that loud place. Cheers!

Was lucky to grab a black Pen-f last week.. that thing is a real beauty.. I have my EM1-Mk3 as a main camera but, pen-f is beautiful.... Yes megapixel is a factor... But zooming using digital crop is not the same as zooming using actual focal length, field of view may match but not the perspective.. anyways it's a Leica and some people need this....

Kai I am so confused, you mentioned and put on screen 28 mm when talking about what camera shows you. I understood Q3 is 43 mm , I think I am missing something

Looks like a nice camera, but i don't understand why you can digital crop in video with an upscale in resolution yet no interpolation and upscale jpg when shooting stills? Great to see you guys at work as always! 😊

@@gewglesux When the Q3m comes out, it will be my first Leica, I'll really be pushing my budget for it. Do you have any regrets when it comes to getting monochrome. My main reason will be to have a camera with unrivaled low light performance. Also, this is the first BSI sensor on a Q.

    • @gewglesux
      @gewglesux ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@codeofcodedotorg Congrats on your upcoming purchase!
I purchased the Q2M as soon a s it came out after the Q2. I have NOT found ONE regret since my purchases. The Q3 has a few trivial things that i don't like but that is in NO way a deal breaker to most people. The ONE thing i love about the Q3 is the ability to screw in a manual remote release- as i love to play around with long exposures..
If the Q3M is anything like the Q2M i guarantee that you will love it.

I dunno. I mean, I am sure it IS better, but although I could afford it, I am not sure I would trade in my X-T5 for it. The problem with it is, which is never really discussed is you have a massively expensive and recognisable camera around your neck. So by that, I mean, it could BE amazing for street photography, but there are certain streets in certain places if you took it out to take photos you wouldn't have it for very long, and then you have no camera at all as It is like having a target on you back. I guess "street photography" is ok if you are just going to relatively safe places. I will just stay with my cheaper camera TBH - it is not all about specs.

Exactly. Which is why the whole « street photography » marketing of Leica is such a joke.
Yea sure Henri Cartier Bresson used a Leica, but it didn’t cost even remotely the money it costs today.
