Gaston - great information, great review. I have the Leica Q2 Monochrome and love it. Love those native, Raw, B & W images I get from that camera. The Q2M eats high ISO images for a snack. I considered purchasing the Q3 because of my fondness of the Q2M. After a week or so of mulling over it, I decided not to because of my Sony A1 with either my 35MM or 24MM f1.4 prime lenses that I have. Sony has done a phenomenal job with their latest iteration of prime lenses. Simply outstanding. I also have the 24-70 GMII; however, when I'm trying to shrink things down, I take the battery grip off the A1, use 1 of the 2 aforementioned prime lens. Sony setup easily gets the job done in a major way. I see zero gain owning the Q3. I think several are in the same situation as me. Would I love to have the Q3? Oh, you know it! Think that I'd be stepping all over myself considering the existing Sony set up. That's a lot of $money$ for a camera that could potentially collect some dust, but there's no doubt Leica has a winner on their hands. Thanks again for the great information.
@@walterlee3839 yeah, the Q3 is great but the Q2 is as good. To me the main deal was Optical IS and the screen as I shoot from the waist down a lot but I got G.A.Sed I dont care for videos specs IMO although the 4k and 8K is incredible. I may do another video about it.
@@GastonShutters I've been G. A. Sed so many times it's ridiculous. I'm doing well in recovery, but the itch remains every once in a while. But in the end, it's the man in the mirror, right? Lol. Regarding Optical IS, at least for still images, is it really necessary for a fixed 28mm lens? Meaning, that's not really important to me, at least. Heck, put the camera in manual mode, SS on 1/250, pick your aperture (for desired outcome) and let the camera set the ISO. I can easily get away with that all day long and night with the monochrome with usable ISO's up to 25,000. It's amazing. I'm certainly no expert, but the MP's in the Q2 seem way more than enough. Too many MP's and a tripod becomes your best friend; or, high ISO to bump the SS avoiding camera shake (on a color sensor) and you have noise. They won't tell you all that, will they? They meaning the marketers selling you a new camera. Always a trade-off. Always.
Great, thorough, review. I love my Q2. Also still shooting with an X2. Something about the simplicity of that camera keeps me reaching into my bag for it.
Thank you very much for this realistic and expert review of the Q3. The question whether this camera is worth a € 5990, is actualy a very strange question. Getting the Q3 because I can afford it. Maybe not worth 6k USD, but I want a workhorse for travel and street. You actually convinced me :) BTW, nice AP, mate!
Just wanted to throw out there that the q2 sensor is not a BSI CMOS sensor. The q3 is the first of the q sensors that are back side illuminated. Something not a lot of people are mentioning…great review!
Great user review. I knew a lot already, but your areas of emphasis were perfect. I don’t get why others insist on referring to it as a point and shoot. It easily shoots all manual, or priority in any mode, just like all of the other leading brands! A point and shoot is a camera that practically speaking shoots nothing but automatic, leaving the settings in the hands of the camera, so to speak! Geoff
Lots of arguments can be made but boils down to cost vs use case equals value. This is a great synopsis of the factors for decision options. For me it’s keeping the 2. Thanks.
I purchased the camera knowing fair well its for photography. Anyone looking at this for video should re-consider. Yeah it produces great video but its not a video camera. For photos its superb. As a Sony and Canon shooter for work, this camera is my EDC for personal photography only. Thanks for making the video.
Live my Q2, don’t do video, fast action and tracking object, so I’m ok with the slow processing, no USB port…for that beautiful Leica red. The only thing attracts me to upgrade to Q3 is the tilt screen, which is very desired when I shots macro.
I borrowed a friends Leica Q2 monochrome model. I was in love it blew me away. I'd never shot exclusively in black and white and it forced me to look at images in a different way. The level of sharpness is above what I'd experienced before. I shot over a thousand images over a few days as I was trying to master it before I had to return it. Bottom line I'm going to buy a monochrome Q2 and a color Q3 sometime in the future. I love the fixed lens, the ease of use and I also like the ability to do macro shots. I don't do video so I don't care about that. For me this is the ultimage grab and go solution.
16:20 I wish Leica would borrow Fuji’s extended DR mode. It should be called “shifted DR” mode since moves the DR sensitivity to account for highlight detail in lieu of shadow detail. The dr400 mode, in short, distributes the exposure more evenly thru the exposure of the images, removing the necessity of underexposing for highlights. It does this by requiring you to shoot at iso 640 or higher. This allows the camera to underexpose the hi lights of an image while boosting the mid tones and shadows…. basically what you eventually do in post if you underexposed your images. It does all of these calculations prior to the analog to digital conversion, so it works in RAW!
It works in RAW and jpg because the camera does all of this on the sensor before it’s converted to digital. It requires a minimal iso of 640 because your hilights are processed at iso 160, but your mids and shadows (overall exposure) are process at iso 640. This gives you two stops of highlight range in raw, once in linear form in lightroom it becomes 3-5 stops in lightroom! But this is not a hardware thing it’s a software thing. If Leica did this, the m11 and m11 monochroms & Q’s would be the PERFECT street cameras! 😊 Below are two great videos with detailed explanation and samples! Details how the camera achieves this: th-cam.com/video/RjjCa73XxsY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3cDnXCeQ2lWGSirO Great samples in lightroom. th-cam.com/video/HsuIApe6gvI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=lV8A8NSNNswWeLg0 With the dr400 mode in fuji, you no longer need to underexpose an image and later boost your blacks and mid in post production, causing useless and underexposed jpgs. The camera does that for you with ever shutter press! Great looking jpgs and raw with detail in blown highlights!
Great review, thanks very much. Did you notice if the Q3 re-focuses in-between shots in AFC mode, even with AF locked? In Q2, even when I lock AF (AF-L) with the back button, if I am in AFC mode, when keeping the shutter pressed for multiple continuous shots, the camera "loses" the AF-L and keeps refocusing between each shot. Needless to say this makes AFC practically useless (given the relatively slow AF of Q2). It is actually much more reliable (in Q2 at least) to stay in AFS mode, lock AF with the back button, and keep the shutter half-depressed between shots (which prevents the camera from trying to re-focus after each shot, as the AF-L only works for one full shutter depression by default) and just keep re-shooting manually, "simulating" AFC. I hope this makes sense. So I was wondering if the Q3 has fixed this, or improved it in any way. Many thanks!
I agree with him. I know that lots of Leica purists don't like it, but it does make low shots much easier, especially for us older folks with not the best backs.
The Leica Q3 stands out as one of the finest cameras I've had the pleasure of owning. It embodies the essence of traditional photography, eschewing audio inputs and focusing purely on capturing breathtaking stills. For video work, I turn to my trusty Sony gear, which excels in that realm. So, if you prefer modern features and versatility, Sony, NIkon or Canon might be more your speed. Personally, I appreciate having both worlds at my disposal-I've got a complete Sony setup with top-of-the-line full-frame cameras and GM lenses, each serving a distinct purpose in my photography toolkit. It's all about having the right tool for the job.
Great video and some nice images, Especially the B&W portraits ! Yeah, I like a flip Screen too, but a 'used Q2 is a tempting ‘bargain’ in comparison to the Q3 ….
Hi Gaston, great video! I’ve got the Q2 (which I love!) and have ordered the Q3. I don’t expect it to arrive anytime soon. I also have the R5 with several L Lenses & X100V. I wanted the Q3 as all round camera for capturing travel photos and video. I’ll give my Q2 to my daughter.
You will be happy with the Q3, if you can afford it go for it. I'm not saying it's a bad camera. It's superior in some way to the Q2 but the Q2 is almost the same for half of the money. To me the screen and the optical IS was what got me G.A.Sed
Well, very good review. I would say though that Ricoh gr iii app, although not aesthetically pleasing as Leica, works perfect, just the transfer times much slower of course. I had a problem to pair first time with q3 and I had many times problems with connecting to the camera, which disappeared now after first firmware update. Thank you for your great works and very professional review!
Glad you enjoyed the review it took me a few days to put together. I just added my BW Leica Presets for free download, you can find it at the bottom of the description
If I had a Q or a Q2, I wouldn't probably have bought a Q3. I don't think that the upgrade would be great enough to justify the price. But I didn't have either of those cameras so when the Q3 was announced, I called every Leica Store in the States, and Great Britain and I had one in about 3 months. I LOVE this camera. I have 2 other Leicas so I know what they can do and how they do it. I am normally a Nikon guy and have been using Nikon exclusively for 40 years as a commercial photographer. I bought a Sony a6500 for travel and upgraded it recently for the s6700. But the Leicas I have I inherited from my dad and he had bought them as a reward for his retirement from his own photography career, so when everyone started buzzing about the Q3, I took the plunge. Again, I don't think this is enough of an upgrade from the Q2. It might be a good upgrade for someone who has the original Q, but maybe not. But if you can swing the money without screwing up your finances, it's a great first Q camera. And the backlit sensor gives you so much dynamic range, and so much better low light exposure, you will be amazed at the situations that you can shoot in and you won't wind up with a big, noisy mess of a file.
Indeed. If you own a Q or Q2 you already have a great camera. The lens is the same. Between the Q and Q3 there are more noticeable differences. But to me the tilt screen did it for me
@@GastonShutters The tilt screen is important to me too. I like to be less intrusive when I take pictures of people in public, and when using the tilt screen with the camera at my waist, it’s not screaming “I’m taking your picture!!!”. I’m not a Leica Purist Collector who is having an anxiety attack because Leica put their first ever tilt screen on this camera.
Okay, I tried the Q3... but it's not for me. What I want when I photograph is to compose my picture at capture, not by cropping afterwards. So I need a compact with Zoom AND excellent lens quality (as good as the sum micron 28mm f1,7 ??). What would you recommend?
Some of the LUMIX micro fourth options. Or Sony RX 100 line. But all those cameras are going to be smaller sensors and that may not be an issue for you.
I adore the Q2 minimalism and image quality. But speed is not its strong suite. My Canon 5Diii is far superior for fast work, and low light. The Leica only stands out for me as a slow-approach experience. In that it feels superior. The Q3 flip screen is interesting, but strays from the minimalist aesthetic. 60MP is good. But the Q2 47MP Q2 was a quantum leap over what I was doing. These cameras do adequate pro video, and with recording wireless microphones, there isn’t much concern in using it.
I actually feel the Q3 is much more versatile with the tilt screen. It saved me from throwing myself on the floor many times. No mic recording option as of yet. But the readout is too slow for most run and gunning situations which is a shame because the quality is great. But to me video is it a must in this camera.
Hi, I really like the video and the entire review and photos. One of the best and I really mean the entire show (presenting, explaining, editing, shots, and more!) The video itself looks very good. which video camera did use? Too bad you don't have a flicker. I really want to zoom in and see how this compares to x100v I got Can you please also add the Amazon link or name for the accessories? What about editing Captureone or lightroom or other?
www.amazon.com/dp/B088KVC7T2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share this one is the one for Fuji but it’s the one I have in the video. And this one is the new one, is a new one for the Q3 and it fits better. a.co/d/93JCoqE
Hi, Gaston! Could you be so kind to send me the link for the articulated thumb grip you bought in Amazon for the Leica Q3? Thank you so much, have a great day!
I have the q2. I just ordered the q3 for extra speed, tilt screen, and higher megapixels which allows me to crop and have decent 50mm images. is it worth $3k cost to upgrade? to me it is.
➡️ Very good point, thank you. That profile thing at 15:07 is something I never understood and is the same problem of all Leica models. - All (!) other brands deliver their complete set of in body profiles with the raw, Leica doesn’t. According to the replies of the support, I’m afraid they do not understand the problem and dump all of our mails concerning that severe issue instead of forwarding it to the firmware team.
Good for portraits, if you want a 10 m pix output. That crop is massive. Leicas new sensor, aka Sony. Noise more like film grain🤪I love Leicas, this camera is very limited for the money. I guess that’s par for the course, but there’s no rangefinder here so …. Probably not worth it?
Thanks for a great review about a camera brand that most of us don't consider. This Leica camera, at $6000.00, is very expensive, and, honestly, very limited in what it can do due to the lack of being able to mount any lenses (except what it has premounted-28mm). So, that said, LEICA strikes me as the equivalent of specialized watches that guys like that are super expensive, and what the guy wants is the name and a sense of hand-made quality, even though the watch itself is really old school and has 1/10th the functionality of a modern electronic watch.
Hi Gaston, is your bw preset for lightroom missing ? Thank you for your work, i wish leica create a preset for lightroom for the leica looks even!! I got the q3, and sold the sony a7iv, i feel the same as you, simplicity and amazing image quality in a small body that i bring always with me. The lens is fantastic, even if some distortion remains, but the cropping possibilities are really cool, and i don’t feel the lack of a changable lens.
Great video. I have a Q2, which I absolutely adore. I shoot Sony for weddings, love them- but the Q2 is for me, and goes everywhere with me. The recent AF update to include eye AF on the Q2 was also a nice touch. I will get a Q3 at some point, to be honest if I didnt have weddings I would sell everything and just have a Q3.
@@GastonShutters maybe so, my experience with my Q2 tells me that if I didn’t have weddings or work I’d just have a Q and be done with it all. Well, maybe an M too 😂
If you are not used to Leica and not familiar with this format, better to choose a Leica Q than a Q2 which is expensive too as a first experience. A lot of leicaists will probably go to this Q3 reselling their very well build Q making the price of this original Q to go to 1500-1750$ shortly and remember that for this price you get a 4k$ Leica lense. At this price you can use it for one year and resell it at the same price as Leica is probably the gear which loose very few value with the years. So it becomes a free experience. The only danger is that finding it so cute and good and practical you will be tempted to invest in the Q3 next year :).
Question. Did they fix the eye auto focus issue?. I am thinking next year of getting a q3 as a second camera for my weddings, I use a Sony atm. Do you think it’s worth getter a q2 or stick just with my one sony
Sorry but that’s dumb and I’ve had all 3 of the Q’s. At the moment a Q2 is only about £1k or so less than the Q3 but the Q3 is a big leap up ranging from USB-C (and wireless charging), an EVF to play with the best, crop modes from 35 to 90mm, PDAF AF, a much more powerful processor for future firmware stuff, the fastest Wi-Fi to phone DNG & JPEG transfer of any camera, a flip screen etc. Why buy an immaculate Q2 for not much less at this price point?
Nice Q3 review. I have one on order now from B&H for 2 months. Where do you sell your equipment? I have a D5 low clic count was for personal use that I am looking to sell.
@@GastonShutters I love the xe4 so much I paid 50% over MSRP for a used one! 😱 Paired it with a new 2023 f2 27mm (40mm on aps-c) manual focus voigtlander, complete with focusing tab, that is a native mount to the fuji! Turn the focus and it automatically zooms into your focus point! In feb, they will be releasing an 18mm version (27mm equiv). This will be my poor man’s Q3! 😂
people should stop worrying about the 28mm being two wide. The crop mode to 35mm is perfect. Gives you Rangefinder like framelines. And you still get like 40 megapixels. You can treat it as a 35 F2 fixed lens FULLframe camera that has 40megapixels. That on emergency can go 28mm F1.7 at 60mp.
Not if you think you’re going to get the same subject separation as you would at those focal lengths natively. People neglect to realize that it’s just cropping
I might be wrong, but I don't see this distorion even when I get really close. Just compared my two very similar images one taken with Q3, the other with Mamiya RB67 140mm medium format film camera and do not see any difference. I think I am blind ;-)
Ohhh there is a trick! Get floss, double it and pass it through the peak design hoop, then pass the floss through the metallic hoop on the M11 and voila! You can use fishing line too.
The Q2 does weird things in low light the original Q is actually amazing value now and the smartest buy IMHO. Same lens. 61MP is ridiculously unnecessary. Not a video platform.
thanks@@GastonShutters , I have current camera set to AFC and BBF as it lets you track moving objects ( Brides / Street ) whilst continually taking pics . Many thanks in advance
No. All you’ve got is AF-L, which is as close as you can get to BF. It’s a software fix, and a very popular request, so I don’t see Leica making this possible anytime soon.
I don’t understand why they continue to keep evf without any eyecup, it is extremely uncomfortable to use it during bright sunny hours unless you have a baseball cap to get some shade…
Only one memory card slot is a dealbreaker for me. I was going to get one today until I realised it only has the one slot and no internal memory, shame because I really could have lived with that lens and sensor with the digital zoom.
I wished they included internal memory like on the M11 but the single card slot hasn’t stopped me from enjoying it. Use Sony tough cards and you’ll be good.
No it’s definitely different in my opinion and better on the Q3. I remember with my Q2 I would get some times a low contrast image that was pretty strange. This was depending the lighting situation. The Q3 seems to be way more accurate at color representation.
Amazon. a.co/d/02afc1e be gentle with it because all the force is on that hot shoe mount. This one doesn’t res on the body like the Leica one. But being gentle with it I had no issues and can access the two buttons
A Leica is not for everybody, come to think of it, so is a Rolex, or Ferrari. After all, what’s life’s purpose at all? Don’t you think you should reward yourself once in a while?
I don’t think so, they should have both options, Q3 28mm and Q3 35mm and sell them at different prices and that the customer decides which one he will use. I don’t even dislike the idea of including a Q3 50mm.
funny thing is you desibale that crop feature yet you recommend shooting from further away when you are intending to croi the 28mm image. If you enabled that framelin crop feature, you would even have to think about the allowance for backing up. you just frame it according to the frame-line.
Crop only affect jpg and I edit raws. So I have no gain from using the crop tool in camera as I can crop in post and re adjust the framing to suit my liking.
@@GastonShutters but it is cropped when you view in lightroom.just that you can disable the crop. Which to most people is even better. You get to frame exactly as how you want it while shooting. And then you can actually “expand” it in post.
A good photo is on the photographer not the gear alone. I bet no one could tell what gear is used with just a photo. As long it makes u happy holding expensive gear, go with it. I will stick to my old full frame dslr. Is all marketing gimmick and too overpriced
Have you ever visited the Leica factory in Germany, seeing their cameras and lenses being put together by hand, not by robots? I guess not, because if you did and felt the enthusiasm that is put into each camera they assemble you would not ask if the price tag is reasonable. Is a Rolex watch woth xK $? This question makes the same sense - none at all. 😉
I will never charge a battery inside a camera, using the camera as a charger again. I did that with a brand new Nikon D850 and we had a power surge and failure and it BRICKED the camera. Luckily it was still under warranty and Nikon replaced it no problem. But I will never do that with my Q3. Get a battery charger, and charge your batteries OUTSIDE your camera.
@@GastonShutters Well, I’ve only done that one time, and it was the first camera I had ever done that with. I was very lucky that the camera was brand new and so Nikon replaced it, no charge. But if it had happened after the warranty expired, it would have been a big financial hit for me. I will never connect my cameras to a charger and then to the wall mains again, and I try to warn others not to do it either.
There should be ZERO and specify ZERO still or video Issues with this camera. For the price it's LACKING in a huge way. No good LEICA. Will go Fujifilm GFX 100 II. 102MP medium format. Huge array of GFX lenses.over 9 million ppi EVF
I used gfx50sII till a few days ago and use gfx100s now as EDC, point and shoot camera! Cheaper used than Q3 and the most ultimate overkill outside of exotic cameras :) Would be nice if Fujifilm make a compact gf35 f2.8 or f4 lens.
Sony color science is so bad it will ruin all the good of a Voigtlander. But many people are color blind and don’t know truly good color. Sony has the worst oranges and reds of all cameras ever.
I rend to grade all my pictures. So that never bothered me that much. But I hear you. I really like the fuji and Leica SOOC colors. Shoot withthose systems as well.@@morganmiller7777

How the hell can a q2 not have a tilt screen or charging in body, a q3 not have audio input etc at the sort of money we are talking here. No ibis either ! @@GastonShutters yep, at about €200 at a guess … I mean really. I’d actually buy one for all the reasons you give if not for the fact that a) I’m not rich enough to just say to hell with it and b) I didn’t think this is verging on taking the piss … reality is that when there is a q4 or whatever, I’ll wait a bit and probably buy a q3 anyway second hand for the reasons you gave … but sod the hell off at list plus right now.
Ha! You realize it’s made in Germany and Leica is not targeting mass market like the other brands (so development costs have to be spread over less units), and they pretty much only make camera gear. They also have stores etc. Their margins are going to be a little higher than other brands… but probably not as much as you think.
Are you better off with an iPhone? No, I didn’t think so. Take a Q3 out for a test drive and you will fall in love with it - that is, if you are an actual photographer.

Great review. One of the best currently out there. I´m about to get my Q3 in two days. Cant wait :)
Glad you enjoyed it. Sub for more Leica content I have scheduled to release.
Geoff
Glad you enjoy it. It’s a great camera.
Lots of arguments can be made but boils down to cost vs use case equals value. This is a great synopsis of the factors for decision options. For me it’s keeping the 2. Thanks.
Thanks for your input
I purchased the camera knowing fair well its for photography. Anyone looking at this for video should re-consider. Yeah it produces great video but its not a video camera. For photos its superb. As a Sony and Canon shooter for work, this camera is my EDC for personal photography only. Thanks for making the video.
Thank you for stopping back and feedback
Yes, the price of the Q3 (bought new) is insane, but you forgot to mention the high ISO performance, which doesn't compare to the Q2.
That is true thank you for bringing it up. 👌
@@GastonShuttersnot to troll..but….😅
Live my Q2, don’t do video, fast action and tracking object, so I’m ok with the slow processing, no USB port…for that beautiful Leica red. The only thing attracts me to upgrade to Q3 is the tilt screen, which is very desired when I shots macro.
I use that tilt screen so much!
External audio synchronization is post is super easy and better than any dongle. I learned that way back in the Canon 5Dii days. Still true.
Thanks for sharing!
Shooting with a monochrome is fun! I picked up the M11M
In terms of better value and performance for the money you are right. But there is something about shooting with a Leica that keeps us all hooked.
I own the Q2M and love it. It improves my artwork and simplifies the process.
Glad to hear !
@@phillipbanes5484 the sony its another level..

I wish Leica would borrow Fuji’s extended DR mode.
Is this done in raw and not in JPG
It works in RAW and jpg because the camera does all of this on the sensor before it’s converted to digital. It requires a minimal iso of 640 because your hilights are processed at iso 160, but your mids and shadows (overall exposure) are process at iso 640. This gives you two stops of highlight range in raw, once in linear form in lightroom it becomes 3-5 stops in lightroom! But this is not a hardware thing it’s a software thing.
If Leica did this, the m11 and m11 monochroms & Q’s would be the PERFECT street cameras! 😊
Below are two great videos with detailed explanation and samples!

With the dr400 mode in fuji, you no longer need to underexpose an image and later boost your blacks and mid in post production, causing useless and underexposed jpgs. The camera does that for you with ever shutter press! Great looking jpgs and raw with detail in blown highlights!
Interesting. Thanks for sharing
There's only ONE way to justify the price tag of a Leica - You wanted a Leica.
Oh yeah. GAS. And I’m infected by it. 😂
You can do lens correction too and geometry stuff in post processing
Yes
Good for you: expressing your desire for a flippy screen on the M11!!!
Glad you are enjoying your Q3
Great video and some nice images, Especially the B&W portraits ! Yeah, I like a flip Screen too, but a 'used Q2 is a tempting ‘bargain’ in comparison to the Q3 ….
Good call!
Can you adopt me? 😋
Not taking adaptions just yet 😄
Well, very good review. I would say though that Ricoh gr iii app, although not aesthetically pleasing as Leica, works perfect, just the transfer times much slower of course. I had a problem to pair first time with q3 and I had many times problems with connecting to the camera, which disappeared now after first firmware update. Thank you for your great works and very professional review!
Glad you enjoyed the review it took me a few days to put together. I just added my BW Leica Presets for free download, you can find it at the bottom of the description
IIRC, the Q2’s 47 MP sensor is not BSI (~ 2:36).
Right, so not just more resolution with the Q3, but also better dynamic range and color depth similar to the M11, which shares the same base sensor.
Not a purist neither! Looking forward for an M. Body with tilt screen and evf! I can see some Leica purists having a panic attack after my statement.
Thanks for a very enjoyable review. Lots of my favorite currently working phtographers have also endorsed this camera for their personal use.
Glad you enjoyed it. I have more Q3 content coming up. Hope I’ve earned your sub 🤞
Дякую! Чудове відео! Мені прийшла лейка але ціна вже 7000 🙈
Slow approach? Haha. You should see what I got with the Q..user is slow
Hi, I really like the video and the entire review and photos. One of the best and I really mean the entire show (presenting, explaining, editing, shots, and more!)
The video itself looks very good. which video camera did use? Too bad you don't have a flicker. I really want to zoom in and see how this compares to x100v I got
Can you please also add the Amazon link or name for the accessories?
What about editing Captureone or lightroom or other?

Not that I would get one but those shocked at the price need to realise the Len’s on its own costs more than the q3
true
When people talk about color science on cameras and they grade de hell out of all pictures like I do, is amusing the color science talk 😅
Well, I only grade images heavily if they need that work. Almost never with the Q3. All the time with my Sony a6700. Not so much with my Nikon D800e.
Can anybody share some of the gadget or ways to backup Q3 photo on the go? since it is only 1 card slot. TY
DJI makes a backup hard drive that allows you to put your card in it and download files without the need to connecting the HD to a computer.

Could you be so kind to send me the link for the articulated thumb grip you bought in Amazon for the Leica Q3?
Thank you so much, have a great day!
You mean for the Fuji? Its clalled “ens mate x100 hinged thumb rest”.
I have the q2. I just ordered the q3 for extra speed, tilt screen, and higher megapixels which allows me to crop and have decent 50mm images. is it worth $3k cost to upgrade? to me it is.
I enjoy the Q3. To me what did it was the flip screen which I use a lot for low angles.
Good point!
Great video..directly to the point👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it.
If it was full frame with a 21mm lens I’d be interested.
Too wide for most situation but why not.
Lovely camera nonetheless
Thanks for a great review about a camera brand that most of us don't consider. This Leica camera, at $6000.00, is very expensive, and, honestly, very limited in what it can do due to the lack of being able to mount any lenses (except what it has premounted-28mm). So, that said, LEICA strikes me as the equivalent of specialized watches that guys like that are super expensive, and what the guy wants is the name and a sense of hand-made quality, even though the watch itself is really old school and has 1/10th the functionality of a modern electronic watch.
Glad you enjoyed it
Other cameras are getting this expensive Z9 $5500 etc…
Crazy
Its crop zoom feature is like having a bag full of lenses. Only you aren't carrying all that heavy glass.
Shoot. I’ll post it in a few. Went to the gym😁
So you have a overexpensive cam and want a preset to run your images through? 😂😂😂
Yeah.
I got both q3 and x100vi. X100vi is actually better for real world travel photography but I just like the Leica because of its a Leica …

Q3 is lots of fun but nowhere near as the fun of shooting with a range finder manual focus camera 📸
@@GastonShutters maybe so, my experience with my Q2 tells me that if I didn’t have weddings or work I’d just have a Q and be done with it all. Well, maybe an M too 😂
My M11 is my daily driver. ❤️
@@GastonShutters yeah I watched the video. Nice. My friend has the silver one, I’ve had a few plays with it. Beautiful
That M11 silvers is really pretty. A bit heavier and the only reason why I didn’t get it.
That’s true. Thank you for stopping by
Can you point where I can buy Leica Q typ 116 under 2k$?

Thank you.
You're welcome!
Question. Did they fix the eye auto focus issue?. I am thinking next year of getting a q3 as a second camera for my weddings, I use a Sony atm. Do you think it’s worth getter a q2 or stick just with my one sony
In full in rated in Leica from an Ex Sony shooter for 13 years. Sony’s are more precise. Leicas are more fun. Fun is where is at for me.
Thank you for your feedback.
Well done,, but I don't understand why no companies have installed an FHD screen for their camera yet🤔!

Glad you enjoyed it. That’s a whole topic that I’m planning to cover in another video. Thanks
people should stop worrying about the 28mm being two wide. The crop mode to 35mm is perfect. Gives you Rangefinder like framelines. And you still get like 40 megapixels. You can treat it as a 35 F2 fixed lens FULLframe camera that has 40megapixels. That on emergency can go 28mm F1.7 at 60mp.
Yeah the 28mm pretty flexible
Not if you think you’re going to get the same subject separation as you would at those focal lengths natively. People neglect to realize that it’s just cropping
@@michaell5806 if you read my comment i clearly said like 35 F2 , NOT 35mm F1.7 .
Do your math.
The 28mm is actually more like 24mm by the way.
@@GastonShutters I always wonder why Leica call it a 28 when its clearly a lot wider
I might be wrong, but I don't see this distorion even when I get really close. Just compared my two very similar images one taken with Q3, the other with Mamiya RB67 140mm medium format film camera and do not see any difference. I think I am blind ;-)
This lens has very little barrel distortion. Is literally the best 28mm out there
How did you manged to fit the Peak Design thing on your Q3... Mine didnt fit
Ohhh there is a trick! Get floss, double it and pass it through the peak design hoop, then pass the floss through the metallic hoop on the M11 and voila! You can use fishing line too.
Nice photos of St Tropez :-)
Many thanks!
The Q2 does weird things in low light the original Q is actually amazing value now and the smartest buy IMHO. Same lens. 61MP is ridiculously unnecessary. Not a video platform.
Yeah the Q could be more than enough.
Agree 100%
I like to make 60x40 prints and 60mp works great!!
Can you assign a button to back button focus ?
Let me check when I get back and I’ll let you know. I always use shutter half press.

No. All you’ve got is AF-L, which is as close as you can get to BF. It’s a software fix, and a very popular request, so I don’t see Leica making this possible anytime soon.
Yep. No way to configure it.
I don’t understand why they continue to keep evf without any eyecup, it is extremely uncomfortable to use it during bright sunny hours unless you have a baseball cap to get some shade…

Thats why i only use rangefinders, you see what you will get

Very informative.

Do you think the color science of Q2 is the same like Q3?
No it’s definitely different in my opinion and better on the Q3. I remember with my Q2 I would get some times a low contrast image that was pretty strange. This was depending the lighting situation. The Q3 seems to be way more accurate at color representation.
Can I use a Q2 battery in a Q3? I haven’t found the answer anywhere.
Yes you can. And viceversa
Yes you can, but the Q3 battery has greater capacity.
Do you recommend Q3 or Sony A7RV?
A7RV! Much versatile
That was a great hinged thumb grip you had... where can you get those?
Amazon. a.co/d/02afc1e be gentle with it because all the force is on that hot shoe mount. This one doesn’t res on the body like the Leica one. But being gentle with it I had no issues and can access the two buttons
I bought this one today to try. Is for the Q2 but I think it will work best. a.co/d/hhl7r6m
Thumb grips aren’t needed for a Q series camera, maybe for small hands
A Leica is not for everybody, come to think of it, so is a Rolex, or Ferrari. After all, what’s life’s purpose at all? Don’t you think you should reward yourself once in a while?
Hell yes. Reward yourself. One life !
A 35mm Q camera would be a massive mistake.
I don’t think so, they should have both options, Q3 28mm and Q3 35mm and sell them at different prices and that the customer decides which one he will use. I don’t even dislike the idea of including a Q3 50mm.
I would jump on it right away lol
Indeed a 50 mm would be so cool. And rock the 28 and 50. I don’t need anything else
funny thing is you desibale that crop feature yet you recommend shooting from further away when you are intending to croi the 28mm image.
No. It’s not cropped. You will see the crop mark on the uncroopped DNG when you select the crop tool. You can disregard, move it around or adjust it.
Overpriced. Could get two Sony cameras that will do just as good job. I love Leica, but it's unnecessary to spend that much for amazing photography.
Thanks for sharing
A good photo is on the photographer not the gear alone. I bet no one could tell what gear is used with just a photo. As long it makes u happy holding expensive gear, go with it. I will stick to my old full frame dslr. Is all marketing gimmick and too overpriced

Is the image quality worth the money?
Honestly. Is anything better than any of the cameras released in the past 5 years. That means it’s a good image quality.
Simple answer? No.
In other words 😂
@@GastonShutters I disagree. If you print large, it can be breathtakingly worth it.
I loved the factory tour in Wetzlar. All the Leica employees you meet are so proud of their company.
I thought you were in love ❤️ with your q 2 the q3 is for photo 📸 not video 🤔 😐 🎉🎉
I am. If you watched the video until the end you’ll hear my conclusions and why I still recommend it.
That seems rear. Owned several cameras throughout the years and never had such issue. But with tech, everything is possible
Thanks for the tip
Is 6000 a mistake or not
Hell No!
There should be ZERO and specify ZERO still or video Issues with this camera. For the price it's LACKING in a huge way. No good LEICA.

Yeah that mic input is a big mishap and no camera with video features should avoid it. Makes no sense. I can shoot 8K but no audio?....
Point and shoot for $6,000??? No, thank you.
Its actually a $1500 cam. Rest is profit.
If you mean point and shoot with a Leica for 5975 - it‘s inexpensive
Ha! You realize it’s made in Germany and Leica is not targeting mass market like the other brands (so development costs have to be spread over less units), and they pretty much only make camera gear. They also have stores etc. Their margins are going to be a little higher than other brands… but probably not as much as you think.
Close minded people always make comments like this. 👎
Are you better off with an iPhone? No, I didn’t think so. Take a Q3 out for a test drive and you will fall in love with it - that is, if you are an actual photographer.
Get a a7c instead
That would work too
28mm isn't good for portrait.
Leica q q2 q3 is a mistake.
What may be good for one, may not be for other
