It's completely a rich person luxury.
As an M3 shooter, only two things will make me switch to a digital M: being back 0.9x view finder and permanently remove any red dot on any future M.
My first M was an M8 a few years ago. Sold it after shooting it for only a year because I started worrying about mechanical and/or electrical failures. I realized that I was mostly converting to black-and-white, I favor the 50 mm focal length, and I really enjoyed the process of using an M. This led me to a single stroke M3. Once you get used to that wonderful M3 view finder it’s tough to go back to anything else. I look at any digital M camera knowing if it lasts 20 years it will be a miracle. I know this M3 will be around much longer than I will.
@Bernard I have an A7. I got it precisely because I can shoot all my Leica lenses on digital that way without shelling out digital Leica prices. Glass is forever that's where I'd rather put my money 👍

@Jack Burton There are certainly people who will buy it and enjoy it for what it is. I agree that price is relative, but most people would argue that it's too expensive for what it offers. I understand that Leica is an old brand with history behind them and that they appeal to a smaller group of people who are invested in the whole thing.
@Jack Burton I've shot with Leica since 1968. I've had my current M3 for going on 40 years. Shooting with a Leica is a love/hate experience. I now shoot with Fuji X-E cameras and have tried the Fuji X-Pro2. My X-E cameras are almost exactly the same size as my M3 and just as much fun, if not more fun to use. If you want an OVF experience then the X-Pro series is terrific, what the Leica digital should have been. The true rangefinder as used by Leica is really usable with three focal lengths - 35, 50 and 90mm. Rangefinder focusing can be very finicky. With Fuji, if you want, you can hang their 100-400 on an X-Pro, switch to EVF and not miss a beat. Technical reviews and my own experience show Fuji lenses can stand toe to toe with Leica lenses at a fraction of the cost.
Leicas seem like really great picture-making devices with plenty of added silliness just to make them unique. The thing they do best is cash in on their corporate image. Gotta admire that I guess. There’s nothing like a Leica, but I don’t care.
Fuji has the real camera look and Leica the perfect image.
For the life of me. I don’t know why I’d ever spend that kind of money on that camera.

Plus glass!! I'd be happy with a leica M8. It gives enough Leica goodness. Its not like AF speed has improved over time and the sensor at 60 mp doesn't give you much for a street / walkabout camera anyway!
If I was rich I'd get a flagship DSLR or mirrorless like eos-1d x mk III , or D6, Z9. Those are a bit cheaper that this despite being many times better in all aspects and having all the bells and whistles. But I guess for the Leica folk "having all the bells and whistles" is a negative :)) oh well...
Yeap, with no AF, single card slot, no IBIS whatever. And each lens costs like a car.

Actually it was Leica that invented the 35mm format (some still call it Leica format). Or what we call Full Frame today, in digital era. But other than that (and fantastic optical marvel), it's pretty much in a league of its own and competing with itself.

Back in the 1980´s I tried a Leica M camera, that was the first and last time I wanted to work with a Leica M camera ! Many years ago a horse wagon was the big thing, do you see anyone (beside royal´s) driving horse wagons today !?

@Jack Burton AF are for weak eyed photographers, AF haver never and will never be my thing for me and many others, often when I have tried AF, it did not catch the exact spot I wanted to focus at and for macro work AF are totally no go, with MF focus are always where I WANT it to be !

Funny how all these “reviewers/fanboys” will complain about a $1.5K camera not having every single bell and whistle, yet will totally wet themselves over a $9K camera with a “big sensor” and a red dot. With 3K you can get the same results with any other camera. If you think that’s impossible, then you need to work on your photography skills.

Kai Wong is just a playboy. He uses a 7500.00 gbp camera and a 6500.00 gbp lens (14,000.00 gbp) to take a photo of a pigeon on a telephone box with another older M & lens strapped diagonally over his chest - the obligatory Billingham swaying at the side. The same photos could be taken with a Canon S95. Sorry, I don't get spending 14,000.00 to make street work. There are better cheaper choices available to do the job Kai.

I'm 5 min into the video and I have no idea why anyone should get this camera .. other than it's Leica. It's says something about a manufacturer and camera when the name alone is the primary draw.
Kai + Lok = a very good and creative team imo - my favorite digital Leica M is the "Leica M10 Monochrom", this camera plus a Leica M 35 mm + 75 mm lenses would be all I need for my photography, if I could afford them
One really great aspect of the M11 and that lens is that they really don't see you coming. It's tiny in hand and doesn't appear like a professional camera to the uneducated eye. Great for stealthing around and not becoming the center of attention. With the body and lens, that's $16,000 US. Worth it? I think so, for the pro, on the go... the more you know.

Kai, this video was funnier 2 days ago when you inadvertently released it…. 6 minutes before you seem to get into it. The whole section on fading/rubbing off on the bottom is silly…..oh 60 mp….and the telephone booths and pigeons looked just as funny as two days ago….
The only thing I learned about M11 versus M10 is the that finish is inferior.
Just a thought, but they are using a pre-production camera. I'm sure the actual production versions with be up to normal Leica standards. Worth noting.
M10-P in silver, black or olive will go down as the best Leica digital M ever made and hold it's money well I feel.

In truth, I don’t think there will be any problem with the finish at all, but it seemed to be the only focus of this video.

The irony of…the major base plate redesign breaking 60 years of tradition in order to make battery changes easier and faster…and then bestowing the camera with a much longer life battery that doesn’t require changing anywhere near as often, and even having the ability to charge the battery in the camera….isn’t entirely lost on me
Plus, I have an M-240 and I can change the SD card without taking off the bottom plate...
Agreed Lawrence. Also I question some of these arguments about speed in real world usage. Removing the base plate takes a second and isn't the whole point of Leica to slowdown anyway? Also I would much rather have a replaceable piece of brass there than an exposed usb -c
Also, while the new battery compartment "hatch" design makes it easier to change the battery, the close proximity of the tripod mount to the lock/unlock switch means you still can't open it without removing a tripod plate, which to me, would have been the biggest benefit of such a design.

Outside of Leica's other product lines, the M series is the only modern rangefinder camera. If there was more competition it might cost a little less.... but also probably not lol.
@@cb2721 Auto focus killed the rangefinder. Had an M3, M2, lastly a black M4, then a CL. Loved my CL for everyday carry. Leica should design the glass, and let Panny do the body & haptic ergonomics.

It's weird that they have the nerve to charge the same price for the aluminium anodised version as the brass version. But not surprising. It just seems obvious to me that black paint, black chrome, and silver chrome is what customers expect in an M body. Aluminium should be for the lower spec/older spec versions, or at least cheaper. No doubt there will be a black paint option at a higher price

I give Leica credit for their very long history in photography, and for having a unique identity. As well as carving out a niche audience/market that pays the crazy prices for their cameras. It's an interesting business and marketing strategy. But their cameras are way out of reach for most people. Or certainly what most people are willing to pay. Especially when there are such good Japanese cameras at a fraction of the cost that can do much of the same or much more in many cases. Beautiful cameras for sure. But also far behind in features and innovation.
This is what I thought. Leica has its style and design, but I am doubtful of its features and innovation compared to other competitor's

You oldsters might remember that black bodies USED TO be more expensive than chrome - by about $20-$35US…
