An Interview with Dr. Paul Mason - Dr. Mason answers questions about vegan and carnivore diets

  • In December 2020, Dr Paul Mason was interviewed by SBS TV (a national broadcaster in South Korea) for a documentary on nutrition. The purpose of this documentary is to assess the science behind plant based diets. This in the context of increasing popularity of these diets (in part driven by a wildly popular pro-vegetarian program from the same broadcaster 10 years prior) to see whether the health claims of plant based diets stack up.
Since the recording of this interview, a recently published systematic review (www.cochranelibrary.com/cdsr/...) on vegan diets has found that there have been zero randomised controlled trials evaluating clinical outcomes on pure plant based diets. This finding at the very least, should bring into question the validity of claims made regarding the health benefits of vegan diets.

Plant-based docs also does that... however, they're so reliant on biased/junk questionaire studies & barely touching Keto with 30-40% macros as 'low-carb' & barely discerning was that grains (high GI) or vegetables (low GI)

This video is edited for our benefit, sure. But that doesn't mean the original interview was edited heavily.
We would need a link to the original to judge that. Do you have that ?
As for the questions being known in advance, there's no problem with that (it allows for a well formulated answer, which is what he's providing).
The problem would be if certain questions were not allowed to be asked. Is that your concern ?

Awesome presentation, I love hearing the truth! For many years I believed in the low fat, low meat diet and my health suffered terribly. An incident from a dog bite wound not healing showed me clearly how deficient this diet was and I then began transforming my diet into a fat and meat protein rich one. My healing was staggering, wound healed in 3 weeks that had not healed in 6 months. Keep preaching Dr Mason!

She reports I think 30% wanting to reduce meat. No "reducing carbs" anywhere in sight. Robinson then sets the seal on this ignorance by quipping jauntily at the end "oh dear. I just ordered a meat pizza. I guess that's my last". (Not last PIZZA 🍕 but last MEAT 🥩.) cheesh!!! Eat beef, not pizza!

Excellent discourse of objective factual information, except that I suspect the good Dr misspoke at 27:54 when he said “animal foods really don’t contain any B12”. I’m certain, given the context and actual facts, that he meant to say “vegetable foods”.

The blue zone book author admits they deliberately left out the evidence of meat eating in "blue zones". Okinawans, for example, get the majority of their calories from pork (pork fat especially). Greek people get most of their calories from dairy, lamb and goat meat. The seventh day adventists are actually the only group in the book that are ovo-lacto vegetarian or vegan and they found no additional all-cause mortality between those two groups.

That _blue zone_ thing is just a myth from de 1980's. For example, Sardinia in Italy is supposed to be one of them. Well, according to Eurostat, the EU's institute for statistics, it does not make even the top five in Europe, wich are the Madrid region in Spain (85.5), the canton of Ticino in Switzerland (85.2), the autonomous province of Trento in Italy (84.6), Île-de-France (Paris region) in France (84.5) and Navarre in Spain (84.4). Btw, only Trento could be considered a "Mediterranean" area. The rest are all interior regions with traditional beef/pork based diets.

According to Joseph Everett, the TH-camr from What I’ve Learned, Okinawa was the site of the most deadly battle in the Pacific. Roughly one third of the population was killed. For the years following the war, people were forced to rely on sweet potatoes to avoid starvation. A study done in 1949, four years after the war, noted this dependence upon sweet potatoes. A 2016 study compared this starvation diet with one used to increase lifespan in rodents. A 2019 journalist cherry picked the info, and pushed the vegan agenda. The Blue Zones author ignored the fact that pork is an essential part of the Okinawan diet. It is always served at their festivals. I doubt that we will ever know what kind of diet led to the high number of centenarians in Okinawa. The topic has become too politicized.
