Mindfulness in the Worst Moments

  • Bringing mindfulness into your worst moments (to the worst versions of yourself well) assumes that you are there to bring something to them. But isn't it precisely that in your worst moments you lose your self? That's the problem. The problem isn't that you aren't "mindful" in your worst moments, it's that you aren't really you--whatever that means.

    i visualise it like a see-saw
like when the pain loads heavy, walk towards the happiness
and when the happiness gets heavy again reflect back towards your pain(and try to keep fixing them)
    I hope it's right

Sometimes when you reference how the different parts of ourselves or our personalities or thoughts or emotions need to meet I picture different talking heads I guess you could say. 😆
It's not quite that literal but that's close.
But as you were describing this it made me go back to thinking of teaching my son to float. Trying to encourage him to relax and balance because when one part is tense he will sink.
So if I instead just see six or seven floating color dots in a line.... and if one gets out of alignment I need to be sensitive enough and relax enough and be quiet enough to invite that part of me back to make sure they are floating in a straight line.
To me I think that speaks to what you were saying about not burying one part of your emotion or forsaking one part but inviting it back. There's a delicate balance in not pushing something away but being calm and quiet enough to listen for it.
I found this entire video helpful and very true even on the small amounts I've practiced this!
    Awesome video! 🤗
I liked the very last part of what you were saying about suffering honestly vs. unnecessarily.
You said that's for another video and I think I understand your meaning and I liked what it implied. But that would be a very interesting video as well!
If we are going to suffer... Why not do it honestly so we can do it in a real way that will bring something good out of the suffering and not just continually feel a perpetuated pain because of only going halfway with our suffering?
Regarding a woman in labor.... There is an article that's really hard to find now. It's called something like "the rule of 10 vs ancient wisdom".
Essentially it was written by midwives who observed that a woman can go through hours and hours up to 10 hours of extra non productive labor because she has non-productive contractions because she doesn't relax. The body will still have contractions but they will not open the cervix so that the baby can come out.
Whereas if she will relax and even let out an audible yell or a deep groan from deep within....she can dilate her cervix up to 5 cm in *a moment* vs over 5 - 9 hours!!
And I think That is something so natural that proves the point of productive suffering versus non-productive suffering.

Awesome comment. I love the visual of the colored dots on the line. It's a ceaseless journey to keep them all in alignment. I guess that's why people talk about "protecting their peace". It's like, "I work hard to keep this stuff in line, you're not going to ruin that! Only I can ruin that!" lol.
It does sound like you're learning to listen to yourself more and more. :)
The woman in labor story is just awesome. And a great analogy for the productive suffering vs. non-productive suffering. There are ways in which each of us do the exact thing. We strain and strain where it simply might not be necessary. But, isn't this the journey... to figure this stuff out..
