Back in the old days… we didn’t have bare metal foil. We had to use the inside of candy bar wrappers. Just YOU try that detail work with a Hershey’s induced sugar high!
You can roll a ROLO on your plane
I have used it before when covering my 1/72 Academy B-17G. The BMF cost more than the kit. It was a great experience. Thank you for the tips.
Oh thanks man. I do build a lot of car models. I was always scared of bare metal foil. But now I am not. I really appreciate you guys taking the time to explain how to do that.
Nothing to be scared of. I was afraid of all kinds of stuff before I used it but it's very forgiving.
I’ve used BMF before. I like this method for windows; I’d been using strips for each side instead of one big piece for the entire window. I’ve also been using metallic “masking foil” from AK or Ammo by Mig, can’t remember which company.
Excelent....❤
I'm doing a P-51D with reynolds wrap and metal foil adhesive.
Excellent work as always 👍👍
Very neat, thanks!
Thanks! excellent video.
Great video Tim, ive heard of bare metal foil, never used it myself. I think i will look into it. Thank you
Great info thank you 👍🏿
Great video for using the foil. The back window application is the "correct" one. I never wanted to do it this way, as it creates a lot of waste. Using 4 strips instead creates seams, which, believe it or not, are visible.
I might give this a try outside of scale modelling and see how effective it may be for wargaming or model railways. Depending upon how easy or difficult to get it is in the uk.
Thanks for a interesting video.
I would say glass last as the window trim needs to wrap around & trimmed.
Good video, but some questions were ignored. You said that the product doesn't like clearcoat over it. What about decals? It would suck to do an entire Mustang and not be able to put markings on it because the BareMetal doesn't like decals. Is there a special technique for applying decals over the BareMetal Foil? How would you go about using it to do a camouflaged F-100 Super Sabre afterburner housing, where the paint is scorched and flaking off of the surface?
Hi Tim. This was a great tutorial for foil application. Just wondering, are you guys not doing kits (new) kits reviews?
I’ve tried applying foil like that, but my old shaky fingers ruined the paint job too many times.
5:12 - sorry, that too small looking, black ring is distracting.
It certainly beats the pain in the ass that is aluminium tape from the hardware store.
