Even though I knew a lot of this, it moved quick enough that I didn't feel compelled to fast forward through any of it. Very helpful, direct and a nice pace. Great job!

Hi, thank you for a very helpful video, I could easily sketch my bathroom. But how do I make the eraser not delete the tape measurement overlapping the same line? It's annoying having to re-measure it when I want to keep it after deleteing a line.
Very interesting video, something I can relate to. Been using VectorWorks for a few years till I upgraded my computer about 4 years ago. I was designing renovations and extensions then doing the work myself. The VectorWorks prices also went up. Not a big fan of subscriptions being that the bill could run into hundreds of dollars each week with everything that I do But Im looking at SketchUp as I would like to design and build again, from furniture to small buildings Cheers and thank you
How do you recommend that we show clients before and after layouts? For example, do you create two separate files? what can you do to draw the basic overview once and then show by removing some walls to display the new open concept and kitchen layout? Separate files or the same file. Seeking guidance.
There are pros and cons to either approach (separate file vs. same file). If you go with the separate file approach, one downside is that when you make a change in one of them you have to always think about whether that same change needs to be made in the other. However, the upside is that each file can sometimes feel more manageable than when you try to put both options into one file and try to manage them together. In general, we would usually recommend two files IF there aren't going to be a bunch of changes you have to keep making in both files as you go along. Otherwise, go with the same file approach.
You can either rotate the geometry in your model relative to the Green axis pointing more or less north. Or you can use the Solar North extension to modify the North direction: extensions.sketchup.com/extension/393f5153-ba5f-4f5f-849f-46b32cf64bd4/solar-north
This is the best channel for learning sketchup. Excellent explaining skills from the presenter. However, I cannot take another future self joke/ animation. That s just painful
Wow - thanks for the kind words! We edit the videos ourselves and when you count the total number of hours spent scripting, shooting and editing each video (across a few team members), a good guess is that we spend about 50-100 hours creating each video over a course of 4-8 weeks, with the editing probably taking up about half the total number of hours.
Hello i have repeated the 2nd step multiple times but still not certain, in your example is the stove wall the north side of the room? In other words, the sunrise would be seen from sink window?
Drawing the floor is not working as in your video. The rectangular I can draw, but then with the pushpull not a rectangular form is pulled, but the shape of the floor with the walls in it. How can this be prevented?
I've drawing an enclosed kitchen with four sides, with just one door & one window. I got to point 8 and put the kitchen ceiling on, but now I can't get inside! All I can do is peer through the window or door.
Hi I Need your small Help I am Using SketchUp's online version for practice . But When I Finish Drawing I Can't save it on my Laptop to Show other people. please help me As soon as possible
As someone who is moving from the VFX world to the Landscape design world, it is insane to me how Sketchup can exists as an industry standard amongst professionals. Sketchup is a terribly outdated piece of software evolving at a snails pace. It is a real shame that the developers have not teamed up with innovators in the design tech world such as Maxon or Autodesk to provide the Garden/ Landscape design industry with a decent set of tools. Channels like this make it clear how even the simplest tasks can be a bizarrely involved process that other software could do at the touch of a button. Something needs to change...
Hi@@burgessbc.I am currently studying at Kew Gardens here in the UK. After 6 months study, I am still working out what is the best workflow. As a VFX artist I used Cinema 4D for many years and am keen to keep using that as my main design tool. Cinema 4D is far more intuitive and easier to learn than Sketchup. There is a vast online community available for users and I would recommend anyone new to 3D to try it instead of Sketchup. As far as detailed construction designing goes, I recommend Vectorworks, which is at least one decent, robust piece of software the Landscape design industry is using. Hope that helps :)
Hi Luke - thanks for sharing your perspective and for helping others find tools to help them with their specific type of projects. It's refreshing to have people helping each other here in the comments. Thank you!
The problem is the price every other company whacks onto their software! Sketchup is the only decently-priced option :( Therefore im sure that is the reason this low-quality stuff remains the 'standard'
The video doesn't have you draw the floor until after we ask you to Group the walls. Perhaps you drew the floor first when we were saying that you should only use the Tape Measure tool to measure the overall space?

I learned from another vid, something I could apply here, and that is make copies of the lights and save as components! I think that would work.
the addition of tags and groups 😀
Punch Out tool: I learned to left click instead of pressing delete when punching-out an opening. Thanks.

This guide is very useful and straight to the point.
Glad to hear you liked the video!

I'm a programmer trying to start a hobby-Draw/plan which I love to do. Your video's are amazing and it helped me a lot! Thank you!
You're welcome! Glad you like the videos!
Great video, thanks. Helped me model my kitchen super fast. It boggles my mind that America still uses inches for architecture/construction!
You're welcome!
Great video, very clear and easy to follow/digest, thank you!!
You're welcome!
Loved the tips, thanks.

Thank you Alex for sharing!

In push-pull windows and doors won't be punched out, instead it thickens the selected portions of the walls! Any idea?

Got the same Problem... did you solve it?

Yeah, i started putting in one drawing. the landscape is massive and can build next to each other.@@SketchUpSchool
How do you change the orientation of North for your model?
You can either rotate the geometry in your model relative to the Green axis pointing more or less north. Or you can use the Solar North extension to modify the North direction: extensions.sketchup.com/extension/393f5153-ba5f-4f5f-849f-46b32cf64bd4/solar-north

@@SketchUpSchool its the repetitiveness of the specific joke i don't like. but no worries, thanks for the lessons. keep up the good work!
You are the best
Glad you think so!
I'm curious who does the editing and how long does it take. These videos are so well crafted.

Yes, that is the orientation for this particular room
Amazing

I thought your kitchen was a render architecture is hallucinatory 🤣😂😂😂👏

Assign Tags to the different Groups - walls, ceiling, floor - and then hide the visibility for the things you need to get out of the way.

Do you have a recommendation for a better program for landscape designers? I am also looking to enter the profession.

Hi - I'm using an older version of SketchUp Pro - does it have the "tags" feature? Thanks
In older versions of SketchUp, "Tags" used to be called "Layers". The feature works the same, it just had a different name before.
Could you do a 2 storey house
We'll add it to our list of possible future topics!
so U did not tell u about groups soon enough I had a floor as well as the walls and when yo u told us to select the walls the floor also gets selected
