I recently dicovored your channel, after watching your video "10 extensions every architect should know" where I after having used Sketchup for like 8 years now, learned some new features. Now I've been watching most of your videos, even though i consider myself being on an advanced level. But as i'm self taught in the program, i thought maybe i could still learn a few things from watching how you use Sketchup. And i love these small "tips and tricks" you give in most video, some have really improved my workflow! So thanks! I'd love too see a future video, where you went over a bunch of "tips and tricks" that adavanced/self taught users might have missed, or bad drawing habits that could be done more efficiently. And perhaps also a video going over many of the "hidden" keyboard/mouse shortcuts, that really helps with using the program efficiently. An example being pressing "b" for bucket tool, and then holding "alt" to quickly access the color/texture picker. or shift to replace. these shortcuts have all been things i have first learned years inbetween and along the way. and would be great to see a video covering this. For instance, I just first learned today, that you can just double click after a push/pull movement. (Bonus tip 06:05) 😄I thought i was already being efficient with just clicking once on the next rectangle, and then just move the curser too the first door frame, and click again. But this is even faster! Thanks again for creating all this content, and making these fun, easy to follow videos. I will certainly keep watching! 👍
Hi my name is Amin I am 73 , worked with freehand , Corel draw , photo shop and I design, I love this software, oh! I am from Cape Town South Africa, would love to master this software, thanks 😊
Really good tutorial. Notice that BEFORE you cut the doors / windows, it is very important to establish the total HEIGHT of the house / floor. If you get that wrong, and try to scale / push/pull the walls, all the doors / windows will have a wrong size.
Hi Alex, I did learn a tip from you today! We deal with hand drawn schematic plans a lot and I did not know that you could scale the image by just typing in the dimension that it should be. I will be using that all the time now! I think it is wonderful what you are providing here, thank you!
I do this sort of thing all the time but like to see your videos for new ideas or a fresh approach. My methods are not the same, but you cover a lot that people can use to develop their work flow. Thank you! On an aside, I'd suggest you change the sound effects /transitions in your videos.
Thank you for the very informative video. Perhaps you could help me, lets say I have CAD drawings of 4 different house units for the estate I am planning. Can the steps be replicated on the subsequent unit types after I have done all the steps on the first model?
If I understand your question, yes - you can replicate the steps for subsequent unit types. Of course, if you run into any further questions, please send a message to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will be happy to help.
I'm not a design professional, but I need to turn a 2D paper floor plan into a nice image that can be uploaded to a website so that people can see the room layout of what size house or flat. What do I need?
Need help from eperienced users please: I tried to import a png file and resize but it just simply doesn't work. What I am doing wrong? measure a known distance, Sketchup writes how long it is (according to Scketchup) but I can not overwrite the numbers for the correct measurement: can not click into the cell. Any idea?
Once you measure, there is no need to click in the Measurements box... just type the measurement on your keyboard and press Enter/Return. If you continue to have trouble, please send a message to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will help.
Thanks I was having this same issue but I entered the value and pressed enter instead of trying to click into the measurement cell and it worked !! Thanks so much.
Hi - I am not sure I understand the question. It would be best if you could send this message with more details about what you need to do to team@sketchupschool.com and one of our instructors can try to help you.
Too bad nothing is easy in Sketchup. "Just import the pdf!" Because Sketchup doesn't support pdf. You have to install plugins first. Why on earth wouldn't it just work with pdf by default. Also, the advice to use a door opening in a potato resolution floorplan as a scale reference is absolute garbage. Go for the longest dimension in your floorplan to have some semblance of accuracy.
You can import PDFs on Mac, just not PC due to the different file architecture there). You can take a screenshot of the PDF on a PC though and import as an image. And for using the door opening, you can actually use any dimension you like. That's because you are still specifying accurate dimensions as you go... the underlying plan will always be a little bit off since it is a raster image - whether you use a long or short dimension. But it's just a reference, so it's OK that it's not perfect (which it won't be with your proposed method either).

Hi Lorelei - you're very welcome! 😊
Glad to hear that you learned something new that you can use on the job!
One of the best thing i ever learned........
Glad it was helpful!
wow, architecture school really didnt teach me nothing about all this, now that i actually need it i have to relearn it again
Hopefully you find our videos helpful!
What a fantastic tutorial video. Many thanks for producing.
You're welcome! Glad you enjoyed it.

So helpful, thanks Alex
you're welcome!
Is this feature only available in studio plan? Or can I do this is Pro /Go plan too? ^^
You can import 2D images into SketchUp Pro or Go and use them as the basis for creating a 3D model
These tips are awesome.... keep it up 😀👍🏻
Excellent video
Glad you liked it!
Excelente explicación. Thanks
You're welcome!
nice thanks for share

Great video!
Glad you liked it!
godlike
Glad you liked the video!
Would I be able to import a design that was created in softplan into sketchup?
Yes, you can import a .dwg/.dxf file that was created in another software like Softplan.
I'm not a design professional, but I need to turn a 2D paper floor plan into a nice image that can be uploaded to a website so that people can see the room layout of what size house or flat. What do I need?

ALEX is the best
Glad you think so!
good explaination. keep it up, but please little slow
Glad you liked the video!
Can we import pdf for 2021 version?
You can import PDF on a Mac. On a PC, take a screenshot of your PDF and then import that as an image file.
Need help from eperienced users please: I tried to import a png file and resize but it just simply doesn't work. I am using Sketch up pro and it doens't let me import any pdf files but can import dwg files. What could be the issue?
You can only import PDFs using SketchUp on a Mac. For PC users, take a screenshot of your PDF and then import that image file as a workaround.
hello, can u explane to me how to get out from auto cad after i import a model in skech up, thank u and have a nice day 😇

What are the minimum system requirements (hardware) for sketch up free?
You can find the system requirements for SketchUp Free (also known as SketchUp for Web) here: help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/system-requirements
U can use it with i5 processor and 1650 graphic card. Don't go lower than this
Help! I can't type the measurement in the length box.
Please send this message to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will try to help.
thank you@@SketchUpSchool
It's a nice software, but so pricey. There are a lot of apps which do almost the same job at fraction of the price.
Depending on what you need to use SketchUp for, you can always try the free web-based version here: app.sketchup.com/app?hl=en
I need one help if you possible
Please email us at team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will try to help with whatever questions you have.
苦练十年,不如名师一点。
Please can you offer me the sketch up pro?
You can get the free trial of SketchUp Pro here: www.sketchup.com/try-sketchup
Cant type anything after tape measure xD Thats how far I got
Ok I managed ;)
Glad you figured it out! If you have further questions, please send them to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will try to help.
Free?
If you're looking for a free version of SketchUp, take a look at the free, web-based version here: app.sketchup.com/app?hl=en

NOPE!
TRACING IS THE SLOWEST WAY TO MAKE 2D TO 3D. :)
so which one is fast?
Doing it any other way can seem fast at first, but will create problems down the road.
An nice and informative video. Very annoying and excessive transitions sounds tho.
Glad you liked the video (and sorry about the transitions... we'll work on that for future videos!)
Glad you liked the video!
Very helpful, thanks Alex
