During Covid I lost my job, I started watching your videos on TH-cam during lock down and I learnt so much ever since...I'm now working in my dream job designing kitchens using sketchup...thank you my friend...I knew back in lockdown my future self would thank me 😅
Great resource: for me the most important tips are: 0) the tip about how to properly draw (click and release, not click and drag). 1) the tip about avoid building "in place" with stickiness, use groups properly 2) the tip about using the move tool But I would say especially tip 1). I wish I had watched this before starting, it can get really frustrating if you don't know about this tip.
Im a newbie here, and im ready to learn all i can!! I've been asked to do something I've never done before, but im ready for the challenge! I figure no question is too crazy to ask when you're new at something... can SketchUp be used on a laptop? Yup, Im that new at this!!!
Yes, you can use SketchUp on a laptop! If you have any other questions at all, don't hesitate to send us a message at team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will be happy to help!
Been using Sketchup since way back for cabinetry and home remodeling. Just watched this video and actually learned somethings new. Great tutorials! Lokking forward to seeing how far you and your tutorials propell me into my design future. I'd rather swinging a mouse now instead of a hammer. Started using pro back around 2014.
Great simple introduction. My daughter has been making some incredible designs, but in Sims 4 and Roblox (Bloxberg and RoVille). Have you tried building in these? You should check them out and make comparison to Sketchup video. These kids are the future architects and interior designers of tomorrow. I tried Sketchup with my daughter, but as you mentioned in your video, if you don't know the basics you get frustrated. I really think a series aimed at kids and teenagers using the education version, to be able to create designs like they make in The Sims and Roblox could set them up for a future career. My daughter is really keen, but I think that I'll have to teach myself Sketchup first, then teach her.
@@SketchUpSchool So glad you think so. I've sat with my daughter as she constructs a house from scratch. I was amazed at the speed her mind works and how fast she controls the camera and tools to get what's in her head on to the screen in as little time possible
Hi sir Please make one vedio as an example that it show plan elevation done in autocad so how many step you required to import it in SketchUp to start working from starting Thanks 👍
Do you have a video on how to organize the interface of Sketchup with all the tools you have? When yo make your videos is so easy to identify the tools but on my MAC is a nightmare. I would love to get my workspace looking like yours :(
We do have lessons that cover arranging the interface, but those lessons are in the courses on our website (www.sketchupschool.com/). If you're not ready to invest in taking our courses, you can always follow this help article to get your toolbars set-up the way you'd like: help.sketchup.com/en/sketchup/customizing-your-workspace
Thinking of getting Sketchup Edu for my 17 year old daughter who wants to do some landscape design - we're planning on learning this together. Is Sketchup ok for Landscape design?
Yes, SketchUp is a great tool for landscape design! If you need more help with resources for getting started, please send a message to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will be happy to help
Hi! I am starting an interior design business however I don't have any formal training, would I benefit from learning sketcup for aesthetics even though I wouldn't be deciding architectual elements of a home (because i'm not licensed to do so) ? I think learning the vray would be awesome but I don't want to learn something that an architect would be doing for the client anyways, does that make sense?
Yes, you can definitely learn SketchUp to be able to take existing spaces and then design them - the same way that a homeowner might do if they wanted to reimagine a room in their house. SketchUp is a great tool for that sort of thing.
I'm using the free 2017 version of sketchup. Is there a way that I can put a button on a toolbar for 'delete guides'? I've added a short cut on the keyboard but at times it's a hassle having to reach for the keyboard. And going to the drag down menu is equally as clumsy. Any insight would be helpful. Thank you.
There isn't a way to add a custom button to the toolbar for Delete Guides. As you mentioned, the best way to streamline this would be to create a keyboard shortcut.
Need to know more about which mouse to buy. You say to get a 3 button mouse BUT the one you show has only 2 buttons (a right button and a left button ) and a scroll wheel. ??? Also will a tracker ball with more than 3 buttons work??
If you type "3-button scroll wheel mouse" into an online search, any result that has the scroll wheel will work. The tracker ball mouse is technically able to be used, but can be a bit tricky - I would go with the 3-button scroll wheel mouse instead. Here is the "3-button scroll wheel mouse" search result from Amazon, for instance: www.amazon.com/s?k=3+button+scroll+wheel+mouse&crid=2KUTU5WZ0E3IL&sprefix=3+button+scroll+wheel+mouse%2Caps%2C159&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
THIS VIDEO IS NOT ON THE SKETCHUP youtube page. Hey TOM. That sucks. I followed all the links in the how to create a floor plan. Nothing linked to here. (maybe waaay down in the playlists?) I have wanted to do a blueprint with furniture ofre years.) Grrr.
I am unable to scale my floor plan in SketchUp. I have paid for an education subscription and I have tried to follow all the tutorials (measuring the longest measurement, trying to adjust the measurement to suit) however it will not allow me to change the measurement to scale
My SketchUp does not look like this when I open a new template. I went through the steps and the tool bar on the left doesn’t appear and I cannot move my sketch. Do you know how I can reset my program? Looking for any advice. It’s very confusing.
You are half right on the mouse. Wither go w/ vert ergo or a comfortable trackball. geometry only 3 things? is the new version even more corrupted than I would have guest? MIDPOINTS. 🐂💩 on groups. Components are far more user-friendly.
Hi sir 💎Can i learn it that easily?…actually I graduated last 2 months .. i am really afraid when i want to learn something new 💎 I am an engineer but in my country everything it was in theory not in practical so tell me please .. I am now a surviving engineer without having any idea about sketchup 🥺💎
Learning anything new feels hard at first, but if you stick with it then eventually the progress will come. Learning SketchUp is the same and we try our best to make it as easy as possible.
It's the same for Mac and PC users: To turn something into a Group, select all the edges and faces, then right click on the selection and pick the option Make Group.
"You can continue to use Sketchup, but you will not be allowed to start a new file or open an existing file." Everything about this software is difficult. Why would I possibly pay $100?
Sorry to tell u this but this video is terrible. Why dont u give this to a novuce and observe how they struggle to follow your directions. U move so fast that I had to rewind 5 times and still could not follow because you cant slow down to see where u clucked to get to the next etc.
If you need a more methodical set of lessons, I recommend you take a look at our Complete Intro to SketchUp course which is a part of our Video Course Library (www.sketchupschool.com/video-course-library). We can't fit every step into a single TH-cam video, so you might find our longer-form courses to be more helpful.
We didn't mean for it to seem scornful - we love using our trackpad. It's just hard to use a trackpad with a 3D modeling tool like SketchUp. There are mice that cost as little as $10 that will work just fine if you are able to do that.
May I offer some well-meaning constructive criticism? At 1:45 you start to indicate this tutorial will be suitable for new Windows users; ....its Not. Why confuse things by running a tutorial in two very different operating systems? It would have been a kind and considered approach to do separate tutorials in Windows and another in Mac. At 2:15 you've clearly shown what a Mac user would do, but failed to give instruction as to what a windows user should do to open (or manipulate using tools) a new Template. 😞 You go on to say what someone using the free version would do... which seems strange because you are delivering this tutorial in SketchUp Pro. Woe is me... Another waste of time.
Sorry that you weren't able to use this video to follow along on a PC. We will definitely take your feedback into account when we update this video to try to make it more accessible. In the meantime, we'd love to help you get the most out of the time you spent watching this video: Just send a message to team@sketchupschool.com and an instructor will be glad to help!

Hello there! Is it possible to draw in SkechUP with a Wacom tablet?
It is possible, but not recommended. Many of the tools in SketchUp are more frustrating to try to work with using a Wacom.
@@SketchUpSchool thank you for your reply!
