In this video, we'll create a basic room from a sketch in the free web-based version of SketchUp. In the next video, I'll create furniture for the room and access the 3D Warehouse.
These videos have been created for glass artists, but the skills are relevant for anyone who would like to organize their space.
Kat (Kramer) Adair was the former narrator of Google/Trimble's official SketchUp Toolbar Videos.

Thanks, Michele! Check out the other “console table” tutorial to get a good handle on components. Especially if you’re designing furniture or a room, it makes SketchUp run more efficiently, and makes it so objects don’t “stick” together. Enjoy! You’re going to have fun with this. 😃

My son wants to remodel his kitchen, I have designed my own home, drew and submitted the plans, then built my home, that was in '87 when it was done my hand, a long and tedious process. I'm excited at the prospect of using SketchUp for this project and showing him I did it the easy way! I can't wait to start now. Thank you so much for this, I didn't look for it, it just popped up on my feed.

I'm a commercial Carpenter looking to stay ahead of the curve in these ever-changing times. After spending thousands on power tools, I reasoned that I could stand to gain some computer-based, design skills. That's when I found and bought SketchUp.
I'd spent hours watching tutorial videos, but I was struggling to make it through the videos until I found Kat's channel. Your videos are awesome and just what I need to learn SketchUp.
    Thank you!

    • @KatAdair
      @KatAdair  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Thanks so much! The thousands on power tools is probably the most fun part of carpentry, but SketchUp for me is a close second. At one point, I had so much fun designing I quit building furniture…less cleanup and no sawdust!
You’ll find that it’s great for joinery. There is also something called a dynamic component that allows you to draw out things like the framing of joists in a floor by literally clicking and dragging. It automatically adjusts the number of joists…super cool.
I’m about to upload a video on creating a console table that shows how to use components effectively, so they can be counted or used for material lists.
Which version did you purchase? If you have access to Layout, it’s a great tool for presenting ideas to customers.
Anyway, welcome! And thank you for your kind words.

As a complete beginner with CAD/Sketchup, I found your tutorial for beginners so helpful. As someone from the UK, I really appreciate your clear and calm voice, together with concise instructions (The shortcuts were especially useful), which have enabled me to create an exact 3D model / floorplan of a loft room which I'm planning to renovate. This'll give me a blank canvas with all the dimensions on which to try out ideas, and print out for help with planning materials like flooring etc, rather than my usual drawings & measurements(...or doodles!) on a notepad. I look forward to your follow up, as I've painted the walls, but I'm not sure how to go about adding furniture or textures (I'm using the FREE web only version).
Thanks so much Kat, great video. I just wonder if you can help with one issue. I have managed to work out how to add the roof protrusions in the room using the tape measure, drawing a line to complete a triangle, select and then pull this shape out to the required distance, however I've realised when trying to add a carpet that I don't have a floor! how do we add this? Thanks!

TY So much for your Excellent Gold Standard Teaching ability and presentation.
We downloaded this browser version and after failing to use it thought it was useless.
U make all the confusion INSTANTLY disappear. Designing a simple bathroom to add onto the side of a house on the porch interior; and your showing keystrokes and guides and shortcuts literally erases the learning curve of this browser based sketchup. You have also convinced us that this is good for product design and 3D printer Extrusion usages..
This channel is a veritable teaching ministry. Subscribed with All !! :-)

I do a lot of jewelry tutorials and we use metric for stone sizes…and cooking?? OMG, how in the world do you measure a “tablespoon of fresh cilantro?” I’m totally with you. We need to convert.
