That has to be the most striking Abaddon I have ever seen! Everything on him just pops! Those second edition codexes are a great source of inspiration. Would also love to see how you do your Black Legion. That retro inspired colour scheme looks the business.
wow, thank you very much for the kind words. Its great that you think so. I work really hard to make the best tutorials I can and I'm always striving to make them better
I used to collect Chaos as a child in the 90s. I had Abaddon, who at the time was one of the most expensive single miniatures (a whopping £9!). It is great to see retro paints like this, and although my Abaddon was a disgusting blob monster this had brought the memories right back. Thank you.
I had the old mini Abaddon as well, me and him went through a lot together and killed many things. I've absolutely loved doing this scheme and it really hit me where I feel
According to the creator of Abaddon at GW, it's pronounced the way you are saying it. If the character's creator pronounces it that way then everyone else is wrong.
OMG! Black and Silver Black Legion! I knew I wasn't crazy! >XD. I had painted my 3rd edition Chaos as them when I was a kid and getting back into the hobby as an adult everything on them was Black and Gold threw me for a loop lol.
I've always pronounced Abaddon as A-bad-un too. Great video as always, it always gives me joy to see the new miniatures painted in "retro" colour schemes; although they just seem like normal colours to me, since 2nd Edition is when I joined the hobby :D
As soon as I can get my hands on some, I will be doing a tutorial. I'll be doing a few bits for the new Cadian stuff because I want an army for myself :D
This doesn't apply to this video specifically but would you recommend using a sable brush for highlights and details such as eyes or visors? Right now i'm having trouble with keeping paint on my brush for highlights and i don't know if its an issue with me or using a synthetic brush. (Also your video about the beginner guide totally gave me that last push to get into this hobby. ty!)
I’m really glad you’ve decided to get into the hobby. I hope you get as much out of it as I have. A sable brush is the proffered type of brush because it gives a nice point. Unfortunately your not gonna be able to do anything about running out of paint in your brush ha it always ends up in the miniature. You’ll get use to it and having to replenish. I find that using a wet pallet helps as it keeps your paint wet. Remember when it comes to getting sharp highlights, you actually want less paint on your brush. This is why I say to wipe some of it off on some paper towel. Other than that, just practice because the more you do it, the more experience you get and you start to find your own ways 👍🏻
love Your content mate - the way You present all different parts , technics and video editing . Great looking model and great looking army ! keep up a great job
I had planned to do more, this wasn’t very popular though. I will revisit this concept of painting retro cover art styles in the future though. Just because it was a lot of fun
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam would encourage you to join the Infernal Brush discord and follow his TH-cam dude 🤘I only levelled up after seeing that. I've still got loads to learn. Happy to have a natter about painting etc whenever too 😁 always open to messages on insta.
It’s not on the helmet. I had to go look after seeing this comment 🤔 it’s actually a little spike on the rack so rest easy. If it was a mistake in the video then be assured there is no mistake any more ha
I see it as a missed opportunity. everyone is just recreating old schemes with old models and paints. I want to do it with new models and new paints :D
I’ll 100% be doing this scheme. Probably my favourite for deathguard. Probably won’t be till middle of next year though as I have so many things to do before that 😁
Thank you. I definitely feel this video is another step up for sure and I'm looking forward to seeing what else I can do. Maybe not in such a lengthy video next time though ha
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam the length of the video doesn’t bother me in the slightest mate! Not sure how much work it is but time stamping the video might enhance longer videos so if we’re following along we can skip to the right steps? Was great to see your thought process and use of the colour overlays to give yourself an idea as to the finished product! I’m waiting for chaos knights to come in stock then will be using some of your tips for sure!
After a few days TH-cam break up the videos into chapters, so you’re able to scrub through it. It’s something I am thinking about doing but I keep forgetting to do it. I really want to paint a knight myself
There is nothing more warhammer to me than an english bloke painting second edition warhammer on a saturday. Thank you very much! /🇸🇪
I am a very English bloke I will admit haha

Would also love to see how you do your Black Legion. That retro inspired colour scheme looks the business.
Thank you. I really want to do some of the others as well. Especially the Eldar 😁
I’m thinking I’ll do a short form tutorial on Instagram for the black legion
In my opinion, you're the best miniature-painting-tutorial creator on this platform. Bravissimo 🇮🇹
wow, thank you very much for the kind words. Its great that you think so. I work really hard to make the best tutorials I can and I'm always striving to make them better
Let's go. I love 2nd edition
So do I
I used to collect Chaos as a child in the 90s. I had Abaddon, who at the time was one of the most expensive single miniatures (a whopping £9!). It is great to see retro paints like this, and although my Abaddon was a disgusting blob monster this had brought the memories right back. Thank you.

Bravo. Love oldhammer styles, just something about the big colorful personalities in so many of those older schemes.
I gree. I want to do more retro style videos in the future
YES! I've been waiting for this all week!
I've been waiting months :P haha hope it was worth the wait
According to the creator of Abaddon at GW, it's pronounced the way you are saying it. If the character's creator pronounces it that way then everyone else is wrong.
That’s awsome. I didn’t know that. Now I have a good argument for it 😁
oh man, this would have been brilliant if you got the old 2e mini. But I love the painting done on this new mini
I do have one but wanted to apply it to the new one 😁 which I’m glad I did
OMG! Black and Silver Black Legion! I knew I wasn't crazy! >XD. I had painted my 3rd edition Chaos as them when I was a kid and getting back into the hobby as an adult everything on them was Black and Gold threw me for a loop lol.
yeah, the gold came in with the 3.5 edition of the codex. so you must have been out the hobby for a very long time haha
Awesome video! It would be cool to see more retro styled painting videos! Like 2nd edition Eldar or perhaps 2nd edition Orks!
This is just the start :D
I totally get what you're saying about the 2nd edition codex cover art, there is something special about that era.
I felt very nostalgic going through the codex again. I'm looking forward to do some of the other books as well now
I've always pronounced Abaddon as A-bad-un too. Great video as always, it always gives me joy to see the new miniatures painted in "retro" colour schemes; although they just seem like normal colours to me, since 2nd Edition is when I joined the hobby :D
I love the vibrancy. I really want to do more
What software did you use for the plan
I used photoshop for what you see in the video
Really well produced video!
Thank you, I'm really happy with this one and plenty I've learned to make the next ones even better
I screen shot 1:07 because the OSL is crazy lol
Nailed it mate, the nostalgia is real
Thank you. I was really happy with how well it worked
Congratulations on finally having the confidence to paint ABADON THE DESPOILER, he looks amazing
Thank you. Onwards and upwards. I want to see what else I can do now 😁
Totally agree with your pronunciation of Abaddon ( A-bad-un ) 👍
Thank you 😁
I often think of him as Stabbadon. Especially when he's wearing the Talon of Horus.
Ooo Stabbadon 😃 that’s good
excellent video - change up the soundtrack as well! i love the videos - and keep watching repeatedly. Hence the request.
I really want to and I go through a bunch to see if I like anything, but its tough to find stuff that matches. I am working on it don't worry ha
Nice video, gives us tips on armour, metallic areas, faces, cloaks and furs all in one
thank you :D this one was a lot of fun
I am a xenos player, but ..great job, i like it ;) Insane result
Thank you :D
He is one of the best looking GW miniatures
I gotta agree with yah
will you paint the new kasrkin? they are wonderful and with your art they would be worthy of the sinister future
As soon as I can get my hands on some, I will be doing a tutorial. I'll be doing a few bits for the new Cadian stuff because I want an army for myself :D
Nice paint scheme!
Using tmm instead of good olde leather brown nmm is insulting for retropainters.
I don’t like nmm, it’s not really my style.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate that ☺️
Finally someone who says it right
I've always remembered it being said that way. I don't know when it suddenly changed. probably Americans haha
This makes me want to at least make a Black Legion kill team with the retro paint scheme.
They do look really good and stand out on the table top

Abbadon without the armor looks so silly
🤔 would you say that to his face ha but yes he does
I don't like capes on my marines either.
covers everything up ha
Edge highlights are looking great! 🤌 Excellent video overall ❤

Like to mention GW no longer sells or makes dawnstone
You scared me but I was in a store today and asked just to make sure. They still do dawnstone 😄 don’t worry
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam WHAT THEY NO LONGER SELL IT IN ANY OF MY LOCALS EVEN THE ONE THATS MUCH MORE OF A PAINTING STORE 😭
