Oh wow, thank you. That means a lot for you to say that. I always strive to make better and better tutorials and I’m really happy with what I’m making at the moment 😊 I’m looking forward to seeing what else I can do to eat better
For 4 years whenever a painting video said "thin your paints" I always wondered "by how much?" and never got that right. Until now lol thank you for actually explaining how these models get painted
When I started this channel, it was to create actual tutorials to learn how to paint miniatures in the games workshop/'easy metal style using actual citadel acrylics. It surprises me that this is a rare thing still ha I make tutorials I wish I had when learning to paint :) I'm glad I can help you
Amazing! I painted again for the first time since the 90’s when I had an Imperial Army set. Spent all afternoon with my 8 year old painting terrain. Thank you for helping us to keep inspired.
😃 that’s wicked. I’m glad I could provide the inspiration for yah. I get a lot of satisfaction from painting and I love sharing my passion with everyone. Keep it up and I hope I can continue to inspire
Hi Michael. Just want to thankyou for your content. Your channel was the first one I found getting back into Warhammer 40k after 20years. Your vids really helped get the passion back for this hobby.
That’s fantastic. No one ever truly leaves the hobby, they always come back ha I’m glad I’ve had some part in helping you, the whole reason I make these videos is to show people that painting good looking miniatures isn’t as tough as you think it is. It’s just practice and time 💪🏻
Brilliant. It always makes it worth while knowing my tutorials are really helping people paint their miniatures. Thanks for letting me know. I appreciate it 😊
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam The more content the better! I was considering getting into chaos, as it is what I played when I was younger. Do you have any vids on legionnaires?
If your new to painting make sure to practice on the extra bits as much as you can first. Take your time as well and try not to get discouraged if your struggling with highlighting. You can use magnifiers, I tend to use a pair of cheap reading glasses that help. It usually takes me 3 full days to paint one marine so don’t rush. You only have to paint these once 😁 good luck
You can never go too thin. Remember your not trying to cover in one go. I always go about 50/50 with water. Make sure to dab your brush on some paper towel as well with yellow. The pigment in yellow is very clumpy and doesn’t spread very well. You’ll probably do about 3 layers for best results
ooo yellow arms sounds cool. in the raven guard chapter, there veterans have white arms which I always liked. it adds character and its a great look that is explained in lore. maybe have a reason behind it :D
Thank you so much for this amazing guide, even including the different company color details at the end. It's helps me so much on deciding how to paint my IFs.
The quality of your vids is soooo good! You definitely deserve more recognition round here. Can I ask if you were ever a ''pro painter'' for magazines or anything like that?
Thank you. I appreciate your support for so long. I’ve never done this professionally previous to the channel. I’ve always just as a passion for miniature painting. I’ve also found that my painting skills have massively improved thanks for the channel because it’s making me push myself more and I never thought I was capable of what I’m now painting and I’m super happy I’m able to share this skills and that knowledge with you guys 😃
Been wondering whatt colour scheme to use for the new free flamer marines you can get from the Warhammer store. Finally decided on the Imperial Fists! And just as I wondered if your channel has a guide for this BAM its there and ready. A great help as always👊🔥
Thank you so much man, I’ve been struggling with them for a while and my first ones look terrible😂 thanks to this they are looking much better! Liked and subscribed🎉
I’ve struggled to paint imperial fists for about 15 years haha so I was happy to make a tutorial showing how best to do it. Especially brush painting as most people would go to airbrushing for imperial fists
I haven’t yet. I’ve seen those miniatures and I’m still a good couple of years away yet 😋 but thank you for thinking I’m that good. I am working towards it
I don't really expect to get a reply but this is sort of a hail Mary. I absolutely love the tutorial, the result looks better than any other imp fist tutorial I've seen. I'm having trouble with my yriel yellow. It isn't covering well at all, it's taking about 5 layers and I keep getting unwanted texture despite watering down to your parameters and waiting for each layer to dry fully. Love the video.
Yellow is a difficult colour. it has really clumpy pigment and its going to that that many layers unfortunatly and even then you can get texture. The miniature in this tutorial has texture in places. So don't worry too much, its not just you. I have going to be doing the kill team marines as imperial fists towards the end of the year, maybe you'llfnd that useful as well :D just keep going. i believe
I’m desperate to paint an imperial fist army! I didn’t even know yellow was a difficult colour to paint with until I started researching what colours I need. Now I’m a little scared. I was just about to order the imperial fist strike force. But I may just test your method on a few space marines first. Thank you for doing one of the best tutorials on this great chapter. 👍🏼
I’ve been working on the best way to paint imperial fists since I started this hobby 😋 this tutorial kind of shows whats possible. I found with painting marines, especially fists is to take your time with them and do them slowly. For example you could just work on getting all the base colours painted first for the strike force. Then slowly work on them doing shading and highlights as you get more confident with it. I’m still working on getting my own done the way I’ve painted them in this video. It’s only been a couple of years so far 😂
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam can I ask for your advice on how to remove paint from a model to repaint? I want to repaint my ultramarines into imperial fists. Thank you
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam I found Biostrip 20 all purpose stripper on Amazon. Apparently you leave it in there over night and then give it a toothpaste scrub and it’s cleared. 🤷♂️ maybe a future video?
it's not:) necessary, it just softens the transition. it kind of does the same thing as the chunky highlight does for th edge highlight. you may not see the impact but you would see the difference if it was there. try it out and see what you prefer
This is awesome and I love how you encourage confidence in us trying to either get back in the hobby or get better! As I'm trying to start building up the army again is it possible to see a tutorial on a predator tank? Thanks in advance from your neighbour from Canada!
I believe everyone is capable of painting to a good standard, it’s just a knowledge gap 🤷🏼♂️ I’m gonna be doing a general space marine vehicle tutorial in the future which should help 😃
Love your videos and want to try your techniques while painting. Just wondering how do you glue the model pieces to the foam block? And is it easy to remove the pieces from the foam after for final assembly? Is their residue from the foam block that makes it hard to glue again?
So they’re not foam, they’re actually wooden Jenga blocks. I have a tutorial called getting miniatures ready for painting. I go through everything in that 😃
could you make a tutorial how to layer yiriel yellow over averland sunset? since this is what is often used on official box art, or would you say it is a similar result when you use white scar/ wraithbone and then yiriel yellow?
the way I've painted the marine in this video will work on an averland sunset undercoat. White scar is the best undercoat to use though. I think your over thinking it and expecting too much. Even the marine I've panted here isn't perfect. no matter how you do it there will always be imperfections with anything you paint. you need to lower those expectations of yourself. get some fully painted imperial fists under your belt
Daft question - what's the 'best' way to get the fit of the arms/gun sub assembly right? When doing it they always seem a bit off when I come to fit them post-painting.
That isn’t a daft question. I struggled with this as well. I could never get the fit right. I now have both arms attached to the weapon so I don’t have to worry about lining them up properly later. It’s better if you leave the shoulder pads off aswell so they don’t get in the way. It also makes it easier to paint them. Pause the video when you see all the sub assemblies I made, I find this is typically the best way to separate a marine. Hope that helps 😁
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam that's the thing - even when attaching both arms to the weapon it seems a bit off, maybe because the plastic glue softens it up so the fit isn't right. Maybe that's a bit i should superglue for more accuracy .
Some plastic glues do take some time to set, super glue could be a solution. You could also use some blu tac and temporarily stick them in place on the body while the arm is glued to the glue. That’s what I use to do with the old marines before you had the little pegs. Make sure to check you have the right arms as well because I use to get that wrong as well haha
@@TableTopReadyTH-cam Good idea. I might look to blue tack the weapon to the front of the torso so I don't get a false measurement for the shoulder width by accidentally gap filling with blu tac.
I have a second channel I’m currently working on where I do none warhammer stuff. The problem with legion though, it’s hard to eat hold of in the UK at the moment. But something I wouldn’t mind doing
@TabletopReady How did you get the yriel so smooth? I've tried averland sunset as the base and yriel as a second layer, and it's really streaky no matter how I thin it down.
I talk about my whole process in the video. If your still finding it streaky then you havn't painted enough layers. the paint is more transparent when thinned so what your seeing is the ayers underneath still coming through
Imperial Fists are an awesome chapter, but also one that intimidates a lot of people. Painting yellow is scary. You got it looking great!
Thank you. Yeah they’ve always been pretty infamous to paint. It’s taken me a good 20 years to figure it out haha
