Just got out of a cast with a broken bone at the base of my thumb. I have arthritis so keeping the hand still for so long the arthritis has creeped around the base of my thumb joint. I feel sharp pains when i accidentally move the wrist without thinking. I am hoping these exercises with help with that. Thanks so much for making this video available as getting into therapy will take a couple of months and by that time it will be a moot point.

Wow, I am so glad I have found you on here. To see you actually doing the exercises does make it easier to feel that I'm slowly improving. I broke the radius (fragments of radius)and the ulna of my right wrist, falling off a horse. Cast off two weeks now. No exercises from hospital, just a referral for physio. First appt not for a few weeks yet, so instead I have a wonderful osteopath who is treating me along with sciatica. He's the only therapist that has almost got rid of 30 years worth of sciatica, hence my faith in him. I think following your video's and his treatment will be the answer. I err expect , hope, pray I can ride in another 4 wks from now ! 😉

I just had my cast removed today. I don't really want to go to physio due to lack of time. Thanks God I found your channel. I will be following what you taught in your videos to recover from distal radius fracture. Thank you so much.

I think these exercises are great. I had a distal fracture at the end of last year which is bad enough, but even worse because I play piano. When I had a cast on I found quite a lot of piano pieces for left hand only since I broke my right wrist. Now three months after the cast coming off and doing your exercises my fingers are much less stiff and I am playing piano with both hands again, although some positions on the piano are a bit painful. I´d like like to thank you for the exercises and say it´s great of you to help so many people.

I noticed a typo in my comment where it said "though my wrist was broken" instead of "thought my wrist was broken." That may have been confusing.
I came back to your video to work on my hand a little more, and wanted to comment on your gentle smile. It's very nice; you are sensitive and empathetic to the hand experience (of course?), even caring for the little pinky! Really, you cover everything!
I'm just using video as a takeoff point now, since I'm fairly healed. Trying not to overdo at the same time. Still kind of sore because I am using my hand too much for texting and stuff and the doctor had told me devices are the worst until it's healed.
The things you say make so much sense. Leaving the fingers relaxed when flexing/extending the wrist, for example. I hope I don't break or sprain my wrist again, but if I do, I know where to go. Wouldn't look any further. - No need to reply again. Hope you have a happy and prosperous New Year. - Happy viewer.

@virtualhandcare Thank you so much for these exercises! I found your channel shortly after getting my cast removed. Since I had one broken wrist and a severe contusion on the other, I have been using this video along with some of your other wrist videos for both wrists, I usually don't notice a difference until a few hours or a day later, but the improvement on both wrists has been significant compared to what I saw without these exercises. Thank you!!!

Broke both wrists on July 1st. Plates installed on July 10th. Already switched to removable splints.Stitches removed yesterday. Wear splints while sleeping. Remove splints for wrist exercise. Iwas thinking I could stop the finger exercises as I have full finger motion. Realizing now that continuing the finger exercises will help the wrists. Pushing the exercises to the point of the pain.

I found your channel and I love the way you explain the exercises. I can not do the rotation or circle but i will try them everyday . i will do my best, I have been so sad the last 3 weeks because the casts were so uncomfortable pain in my shoulder and elbow, but now i can extend my arm better, but not straighten it down i feel too much pressure :(

Thanks for the great video. I felt improvements on the spot.
My issue is that I couldn’t do the wrist forward movement 10:24. The doctor said the bones displaced when I had the cast. And to fix that, I should have a surgery to break the bone and put it back in the right place.
Question: is it OK if I don’t do the surgery, or is it a must.

On March 14 exactly 2 months ago I met with an accident which fractured the radius bone of my left hand's wrist. I got my cast removed 10 days ago. I am currently undergoing physiotherapy but my hand still hurts and I avoid lifting anything heavy. Any idea by when my hand will restore its strength and grip completely as it used to have before accident?

Wow, thanks! Had wrist surgery, in Canada, there is no coverage for hands/wrists for anything beyond broken bones, so nobody would tell me any exercises to do after, and things just keep getting worse after the surgery.
Doctors seem to get so mad when we turn to the internets, but I would be lost without this. I can't thank you enough. I am an artist and it is plunging depression not to be able to art since the surgery.
Canada's medical insurance isn't quite as awesome as folk think.

Do these apply to recovering from a sprain as well? I'm doing them gently after getting out of a two, week splint and they seem very useful. Thought my wrist was broken but it wasn't (yay- I guess). You are very pleasant and skilled. Edit: I just saw a typo in my comment where it had "though my wrist was broken" instead of "thought my wrist was broken." That may have been a little confusing.
I came back to your video to work on my hand a little more, and I was going to comment on your gentle smile. It's very nice; you are sensitive to the hand experience, even caring for the little pinky. No need to answer again. Happy New Year.

Hi Michelle. I had a an acute, non-displaced, comminuted fracture of the distal radius. I had a cast on for six weeks and it was removed four days ago. While I have been doing a lot of various exercises I find that wrist extension is currently the most challenging for me, and at present I can barely do any extension at all. Is that common and/or to be expected at this point in my recovery, and considering what I have written here about my situation? Would it stand to reason that the actual swelling that is still present in the wrist area, combined with light bruising and some slight abrasion from the tight cast, might also explain this? And then as the swelling reduces, wrist extension should become easier? Note that in combination with the various PT/OT exercises, I am doing a lot of dry skin brushing in the direction towards my heart, and I am also massaging my entire arm, starting from the fingers, up the hand, wrist, forearm and trying to lightly push any fluid up towards the direction of my heart. Thank you!!

It is extremely common to have limited wrist extension, actually all movements will feel restricted at only 4 days after cast removal. The swelling can limit motion too but the active movement can help move the fluid too. Continue to do the exercises and the light massage. Give it time! You've got this!

Thank you so so much for these exercises. Cast removed yesterday & I asked about exercises. Was told there are none but just try to lift a plastic cup then once achieved add a little water to cup and lift, then keep adding more water as it becomes easier. I felt that my joints needed some kind of daily movement also when I found your video. Its scary being completely discharged after cast removal with very little advice on getting things moving. You have eased my mind. Thank you! 😊

With my tendon damage never any cast never any fracture can do damage only I am trying to do the finger movements that you're showing and I can get a move in when I'm in my warm Epsom salts after ice But the pain couple hours later it's so intense I got a hunch that the tendon's need more healing
