Just got out of a cast with a broken bone at the base of my thumb. I have arthritis so keeping the hand still for so long the arthritis has creeped around the base of my thumb joint. I feel sharp pains when i accidentally move the wrist without thinking. I am hoping these exercises with help with that. Thanks so much for making this video available as getting into therapy will take a couple of months and by that time it will be a moot point.
I think these exercises are great. I had a distal fracture at the end of last year which is bad enough, but even worse because I play piano. When I had a cast on I found quite a lot of piano pieces for left hand only since I broke my right wrist. Now three months after the cast coming off and doing your exercises my fingers are much less stiff and I am playing piano with both hands again, although some positions on the piano are a bit painful. I´d like like to thank you for the exercises and say it´s great of you to help so many people.
Wow, I am so glad I have found you on here. To see you actually doing the exercises does make it easier to feel that I'm slowly improving. I broke the radius (fragments of radius)and the ulna of my right wrist, falling off a horse. Cast off two weeks now. No exercises from hospital, just a referral for physio. First appt not for a few weeks yet, so instead I have a wonderful osteopath who is treating me along with sciatica. He's the only therapist that has almost got rid of 30 years worth of sciatica, hence my faith in him. I think following your video's and his treatment will be the answer. I err expect , hope, pray I can ride in another 4 wks from now ! 😉
I just had my cast removed today. I don't really want to go to physio due to lack of time. Thanks God I found your channel. I will be following what you taught in your videos to recover from distal radius fracture. Thank you so much.
Your videos should be recommended by the physician because they have helped me so much more than the piece of paper they send you home with. Everyone who is referred to you should also subscribe! Thank you, Michelle! You are a Godsend.
Michelle, thank you for your work! You are a light in a long dark scary tunnel I'm in right now :( but you bring back the will to carry on :). Grace from Brisbane.
I'm with you there Michelle. I broke my distal radius 12 weeks ago. Feeling very frustrated with my progress, I found this channel and now I have more hope and determination that I will get through this. Noelene from Perth
Thank you so much, Michelle. I broke my wrist 6 weeks ago and just got the cast removed. I found your videos right after the injury and they've been super helpful for working on range of motion and smooth movement. I'm an accordionist so anxious to get back to playing.
How's your wrist now?? I also broke my 4rth metacatpal 5 weeks ago and had my cast removed today!! How much time post the 6 weeks does it takes to get back to normal??
I can’t thank you enough for this and your other videos! I got a plate and screws after a bad fall. My pinky looked like a hammer toe and was incredibly painful and stiff. 10 minutes of your stretches and my hand feels less stiff. I have hope my hand will eventually be restored to full motion!
This was so helpful- my cast was removed a few days ago and I'm surprised at just how stiff and sore my hand and fingers are - swollen and inflamed. However after trying these gentle exercises I see that there is hope on the horizon - thank you.
Dear Michelle Thank you so much! I really felt this and am sure it will, all get easier…. I am day 2 out of my cast and keen to do all the right things to help get going again. I am 62 a swimmer, cyclist and fast walker and have really felt the loss of my mobility- but this first video I’ve watched is fantastic, easy to follow and I’ll be doing my daily exercises religiously with the video. Fiona Kim,,Lincolnshire UK
Excellent, gentle instruction for my (dominant hand) radius fracture, five days after cast removal, and CRPS-2 diagnosis. In combination with my prescribed PT and OT, I am hoping that early exercise post-injury will lead to preventing type 1 CRPS. Subscribed to your page so I'll keep up with this daily!
Thanks for your excellent video. I broke my forearm I’m February and still trying to get my mobility back. I went to a month of sessions w a physiotherapist but did not start with hand and finger exercises. Your video is so well done. I’m glad I found your videos. Well done!
Thank you so much . Cast off this afternoon . Quite painful at present but I will persist with the exercises. Thank you for your advice and encouragement.
you are so amazing, thank you, was panicking after my cast was off a few hrs ago. watching you and some of the technique you use. is easy and helpful. thank you for your all the teachings. big hug.and lots of love to what you do.
Thank you for the exercises that I can add on my daily wrist-and-finger-gym on the right hand, where I had a PRC 6 weeks ago. Best wishes to all from Germany 🇩🇪
Hi Michelle.... I broke my wrist before Christmas and just had my cast removed. Will be starting physio next week. Found the exercises in this and another of your videos extremely helpful. Swelling has reduced, dexterity has improved and pain is subsidizing. Thank you for posting.
THANK YOU SOOO VERY MUCH!!! I had my cast removed today I am sooo very stiff and in pain but your gentle mouvements helped a bit I just need to practice them regularly...thank you again
Thanks so much for the videos Broke my ulna and radius and now I have a plate.i am seeing a physio therapist too. Just need to tell you that Your videos have been so helpful. Thanks so much, Penny
Hello Michelle. Thank you for your accompaniment in rehab. You have the ability to show the effort we go throuh and take the time to do it ataour pace. This is why I find your longer videos more useful than those in which the number of exercises is suggested. We cannot trick you while your are there! :)
Thank you!!!! I had my wrist/arm cast removed today and you were a savior to the awful pain I experienced after the cast removal. Very helpful excessives♥️
Thanks for your very effective videos. I just removed the cast from a fractured thumb. My thumb tip is not moving at all to downward. How many days it may take to move. Skin is so hard as well. Is it matter if worry?, I mean this hard skin? And no mobility of thumb’s tip to downward? Thanks in advance.
@virtualhandcare Thank you so much for these exercises! I found your channel shortly after getting my cast removed. Since I had one broken wrist and a severe contusion on the other, I have been using this video along with some of your other wrist videos for both wrists, I usually don't notice a difference until a few hours or a day later, but the improvement on both wrists has been significant compared to what I saw without these exercises. Thank you!!!
Thank you for the exercises instruction , my cast just removed a week ago. The fingers are beginning to look alive now, though I still have problem in thumb strength and numbness in little finger but I will follow this channel for more normal hands movement.
Thank you so much Michelle for this and your five thumb exercises. I’ve had a wrist fusion and cast off two days ago. I cannot believe how painful thumb is and can’t move it and how stiff and painful my hand is. Can’t do anything with it. But I found your videos which I can follow along with and you explain so clearly. You’re def an Angel and can now see there is hope. Don’t understand though why hand just goes back to be stiff after exercises. Guess that’s normal, I don’t know. Thank you so much again, Ann x😊
glad to find you! Have questions tho- here's a little "fly over" for context. Broke my wrist multiple places 9wks ago- in cast 8+wks. At Ortho office was in a HUGE hurry every visit. 1st cast was too high and at wrong angle (I didn't know was told at 2nd visit). All you could see of fingers or thumb were the nails. No one said move fingers etc but did my best to wiggle them anyway as I am a pianist and didn't want them too freeze up. 2nd visit repositioned wrist and lowered cast some but prob not enough per watching yr videos. I also had extra swelling complications due to post breast cancer lymphedema 3 mo prior. I was told by that surgeon NO arm movements or keyboard of any kind including computer until drains were out - for me, that was 2 months!! Needless to say I was already stiff from fingers to shoulder. Was just getting better motion when I fell and broke my wrist - during which time I was given 0 instruction on movements etc. Cast is off 5 days- can't get into therapy for another 2+ wks. Frustrated and trying not to be overwhelmed. I am working on this video- painful very little movement- o well. The swelling from lymphedema has increased is there something I should be adding or changing to your suggestion routine. Should note that prior to break I often had lymphedema swelling all the way to end of fingers. There are no openings for lymphedema PT in my area... I also have M.S. so already didn't have normal sensation or grip in hand - not complaining, just giving context and looking for help
Broke both wrists on July 1st. Plates installed on July 10th. Already switched to removable splints.Stitches removed yesterday. Wear splints while sleeping. Remove splints for wrist exercise. Iwas thinking I could stop the finger exercises as I have full finger motion. Realizing now that continuing the finger exercises will help the wrists. Pushing the exercises to the point of the pain.
I broke my left wrist dec 13 /21 doctor talked about surgery as an option but i decided not to do it I was in a splint for 2 weeks and 4 weeks in a cast. finally yesterday was removed . I found your channel and I love the way you explain the exercises. I can not do the rotation or circle but i will try them everyday . i will do my best, I have been so sad the last 3 weeks because the casts were so uncomfortable pain in my shoulder and elbow, but now i can extend my arm better, but not straighten it down i feel too much pressure :(
Thanks for the great video. I felt improvements on the spot. My issue is that I couldn’t do the wrist forward movement 10:24. The doctor said the bones displaced when I had the cast. And to fix that, I should have a surgery to break the bone and put it back in the right place. Question: is it OK if I don’t do the surgery, or is it a must.

Thanks. Have broken humerus and hand and forearm seized up. Have upper arm brace. 14weeks on, no operation. Wrist not fully working n I can't make a fist. 1st knuckle to fingertips not bending. Any exercises you can recommend
Mam My left hand wrist broken and operated with a plate. One week gone and i am with grib band. Doctor advised to do some excercises. But more pain occurs. Your videos are useful. Can i get my previous normal hand movements? By doing these execercises? Subscribed... Thank you!
I'm 52 broke my wrist but bone is healing well. Out of a cast and told to do these exercises now. I still have lots of pain and I figure it will take me longer to heal my tendons and ligaments I stretched. Do I keep pushing myself even though it hurts really bad ? I'm doing my own physical therapy cause I can't afford to go somewhere.
I have difficulty in kneading dough after 15 days of cast removal of my wrist fracture. Should I knead a dough or stop ? Pls reply. I dont feel strength in my hands.
My hand is still in the cast my doctor will remove it in 5 days and I can do most of these exercises with the cast 🤠 I never stopped moving my arm or my fingers so I guess that this helped a lot also my injury is not very serious.
Ugh! That doesn't really tell you much does it!. I do have a few elbow exercise videos. Here is a playlist of about 10 videos- th-cam.com/play/PLBVEMTUsRUvJ0s-xD0qZ48kwpE53M_EfG.html
After my cast was removed ive Been doing these exercises for 3 weeks. My thumb ang 2 long fingers can now function properly but my 2 smallest fingers still hurts. Is it normal? How long does the pain go away?
On March 14 exactly 2 months ago I met with an accident which fractured the radius bone of my left hand's wrist. I got my cast removed 10 days ago. I am currently undergoing physiotherapy but my hand still hurts and I avoid lifting anything heavy. Any idea by when my hand will restore its strength and grip completely as it used to have before accident?
Heyy Mam, How are you? Where r from? Iam from India myself Angel 18 years old I have one sister her name Olivia we like ur all videos full energetic nd smile, happy nd all ❤️ keep going mam God bless you abundantly 😊
6 weeks exactly since distal radius fracture and plate surgery. I am pretty desperate right now. I can do all the fingers with no pain except the pointer finger to thumb hurts mid arm at the tendon. I am terrified by this. Pronation is ok. Supination is 50% at best. Terrified to do the circles. Would love to know if I am normal. My hand and wrist is noticeably swollen compared to good hand. My palm does not feel normal to touch but I have feeling just feels puffed out weird. I am very tearful.
Same here Kay! I feel sooo alone!! Are you in AU, I had mine done via Brisbane Royal Women's Hospital, the surgery was good but Rehab has been left up to me,
@@kaypendergast5676 I was a bit like you after wrist surgery could not do any exercise it caused swelling, my fingers were like bananas. Then had carpal tunnel surgery which helped swelling now able to do some exercise but so stiff!! I just try daily but get very sad about my hand!
Thankyou so much for your video content, I am a kinesthetic learner so to follow along with you is a godsend. Been learning so much while my wrist was in cast which brightened my spirit. Cast removed 2 weeks, I have distal radius and styloid ulna fracture- I recently experienced pulsing intense pain in wrist in short bursts, is pain a warning I'm overdoing stuff like driving etc. Yes! Never thought I'd be able to drive so soon, although only doing very short journeys.
Is it normal to not able to do that position where we lift drum bells at gym, after removing the plaster.??? Cz, I am not able to rotate my hand properlt.
I'm a week away from 2 months in. Dr. Took cast off because fingers are unnormaly stiff.. I can't straiten all the way up and can't make a full fist. So he said o weight but do finger exercises. My question should I try and zip things too and any tips for me. I can't go to p.t. because a loved one has cancer. Please help me and thank you

For how many days I have to do this exercises after cast removal?

😊
6 weeks exactly since distal radius fracture and plate surgery. I am pretty desperate right now. I can do all the fingers with no pain except the pointer finger to thumb hurts mid arm at the tendon. I am terrified by this. Pronation is ok. Supination is 50% at best. Terrified to do the circles. Would love to know if I am normal. My hand and wrist is noticeably swollen compared to good hand. My palm does not feel normal to touch but I have feeling just feels puffed out weird. I am very tearful.
Same here Kay! I feel sooo alone!! Are you in AU, I had mine done via Brisbane Royal Women's Hospital, the surgery was good but Rehab has been left up to me,
@@ge2893 I am Australia too. Maybe we could chat?
@@kaypendergast5676 I was a bit like you after wrist surgery could not do any exercise it caused swelling, my fingers were like bananas. Then had carpal tunnel surgery which helped swelling now able to do some exercise but so stiff!! I just try daily but get very sad about my hand!
@@kaypendergast5676 i will try upload a video on youtube then we can try chat there, i'm just soo slow with this hand!!!
@@ge2893 Trying to work out how we can chat? Are you on Facebook
Please help with full first exercise... Can't do it... It's 1.6 year post surgery
Your videos are great but I have destroyed damaged all the tendons in my wrist without fracturing the bone
Is it OK to apply cold compress afterwards?
Yes, usually after exercising cold can feel good!
