I’m a guitarist that just crashed my motorcycle and had a multiple wrist fracture. I have the outer metal Rod holding in place screwed in and only 5 days removed and starting this. I can’t do all the rings probably until I’m in the brace in 2 weeks but this is super helpful. I can’t lose my ability to play and this is great to help me be proactive.

the first time I broke my wrist I wasn't told about these exercises. I was very shocked with how stiff my hand & fingers were. I have now broken my other wrist. This time I want to try to work my fingers as much as I can. Thanks for this video - very helpful.

Thank you for your video. I broke my distal radius four weeks ago and are currently still in the cast. Luckily the hospital advised me well about exercising: not just wiggling, but extending, flexing and spreading the hand every hour, but I wanted to know if I could do more and I found your video. All the other videos are about what to do after the cast is removed, but I want to avoid atrophy. Your video is one of the rare videos for in-cast exercise. Now I have a fresh exercise regime 💪 So thank you for your very clear explanation!

same foe me with the distal radius fracture and my large wrist bone was also displaced. My cast is a little higher on my hand but not so much that I can at least do all of the exercises to some extent. I was told just to move my fingers without any other exercises that I can do for my knuckles and hand. I slowly turn my arm towards the inside to lay flat because I can't use the fingers that are out of my cast because my arm and hand, when facing forward is with my thumb facing upward with palm in.

Thank you for this. I had ORIF wrist surgery 3 weeks ago. I was only told to "move my fingers". Yesterday my whole hand was stiff and painful. I started doing your exercises last night and they are so effective. My hand almost feels normal today. Except for my thumb which is still really painful, although improved as well. Thanks again!

Thank you for making these videos available. I had a very ill fitting full cast from the hospital last year, mid Dec. Fingers felt like they were in a pickle jar. Had very poor range of motion with fingers for first 5 days. Thanks to your videos, on the 6th day, I got my surgeons office to replace it with a better fitting 1/2 cast. I'm a woman in my 60's that had distal radius surgery with Volar plate, screws and 2 pins below my thumb 5 weeks ago. Cast is off, replaced with removable brace, but pins don't come out till next week. I was wondering, is it normal to get intense muscle spasm pain down the back of my arm (opposite side from surgery site) when I first do these finger blocking exercises? I'm applying moist heat before doing exercises, as you suggested, but the pain is intense.

I really appreciate these videos because with the population growing so exponential Lee it was like fast food when I got my cast on in the orthopaedic text did a horrible job they were cutting into my toes and the one on the hand at the hospital dear was also a screwup but of course they were a whole screwup to begin with because they didn’t admit me and I had multiple broken bones in different places of my body nevertheless the orthopaedic surgeon only told me to pull my two broken fingers down towards my palm nothing more I found so much more on TH-cam we really have to take our own health into our hands now because we could end up in such a mess if we did nothing but follow what little directions they gave us… I’ve got an essential oils one bottle was $100 in itself but it is great for healing of bones… There’s even food you can eat to help your bones heal more quickly… Do you have any video specifically about a fractured hand and fingers?

I didn’t realize I had a concussion until I was five days in and having huge head pain, memory glitches, sleep disturbance and VERTIGO. No one told me to even ice the wrist, although I knew to do that. If course they didn’t tell me to move my fingers and the cast was very tight around my hand. Went in to 3rd xray and they are doing aurgery. My hand was killing me after taking it out of the cast… and probably from not moving. Surgery is tomorrow, and I am thankful Inwas able go atart mohing my fingers! Unbelivable how they not only ignored my consuaion but also post cast recovery.
Pretty shocking! I am seeing a hand specialist, so hope for no more mysteries!

I just got out of my cast yesterday and indeed I was told to just wiggle. The stiffness is unbelievable in my fingers, and I barely have movement in the wrist. The exercises you show here and on the wrist video look good and I will see how I can improve my motion by doing them. My question is: is it useful to use my non-injured hand to help? For example, my thumb is almost entirely incapable of reaching my ring finger. Would holding it into the stretch with my good hand be of help or am I likely to overdo it?

Sorry to hear about your finger! There are some things you can do however it is beyond what I can explain on here. If you have not exercised consistently 3 or 4 times a day then I would start there. I do offer affordable online consults that can also help your stiffness which I can go in greater detail- go to virtualhandcare.com to set up an appointment. Wish I had seen this video months ago. My index finger is now so stiff I cannot even bend it with the help of my other hand. I wasn't given exercises by my PT until a month out from the injury, and I am now paying the price ☹️

Usually 2-3 times a day is good however you may want to customize that to what you need.

Thank you for the tips. I broke my left wrist when I was in hospital after a fall. It had to be manipulated and 2 weeks later is still painful. I wasn't given any exercises but have been using my fingers because I need to living on my own and I'm 71. One finger and my thumb is still numb in places but against n I wasn't given any advise or help.

    Thank you, so much. ❤
Three weeks in and I just found out about moving more than "wiggle fingers" 🙄 (from Dr.)
Hopefully, three weeks more, I can make them move, more.
But cast does not let all fingers touch thumb so I will manually move, as much as I can.

I had a cast on for 36 days from breaking two bones. Dr wasn't very helpful in telling me what physical therapy to do or to go to actual PT. I can't move my fingers at all. My bone is healed but it's off center. He said that doesn't affect the fingers. I have PT set up for next week. It's very depressing. I'm right handed, live alone. Such a challenge to do stuff alone with one hand,

  • @ninjaiscool7352

I broke my wrist recently, an from my experience, it’s best to keep excruciating your arm but not too much.
Day 1 you should relax the arm as much as possible, wiggle your fingers a bit
Day 2 try to splay your fingers but not too much, when it hurts go back to the resting position and try again about 10 more times, also move your upper arm a bit and keep your back straight. Let your cast hang for few seconds if possible.
Day 3 let your cast hang longer. Do some half bicep curls with your free hand to lightly help support. Splay your fingers more and keep moving arm but stop when there’s pain
Day 4 and so on you should keep working but not too hard, the goal is to keep atrophy to a minimum
