      They are neat but take a look at the trailfinder 2. They body is the same but the chassis is lightyears better and has a massive aftermarket following and costs 1/3rd the price.

    I bought one of these after seeing your first video. as I'm sure many others did. The steering servo seams weak. I'm looking forward to seeing the upgrades you make on yours. Also looking forward to seeing how you paint yours. I am considering purchasing Bruiser decals or Mountaineer decals so that mine looks correct. Keep these videos coming they are greatly appreciated.

    • @AMPROEngineering

      No idea but the gearbox and chassis cannot. I would also say it cant even handle anything but the stock 540 or a crawler motor.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, I am also die hard Tamiya but this thing (or the one I have anyway) is amazing. I do not have a RERE bruiser to compare it to but comparing it to my vintage one, this is way better. Again, this truck is selling for $250 shipped. The Tamiya is $1200 at thier MSRP.

    I bit the bullet and ordered a black one from Banggood. Being a Back To The Future fan I thought it'd be cool to do it like the Hilux from the movie, if possible. Can you get the later model grille and headlights, roll bar and spotlights for these body's?

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh nice! Well I have seen people try and modernize these but the bodies are totally different but it can be done.

    • @keithrx3c

      @@AMPROEngineering Is the right year model body available? I think it would be '85 or '87.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so but in lexan and not ABS. I forgot who makes it but usually they are all black like the BTTF truck. Detail is "eh". I guess it could be worse.

    • @keithrx3c
      @keithrx3c 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AMPROEngineering Oh right, not being very familiar with the different models I thought it might be possible to just do an 85 grille/headlight piece for the stock ABS body, seems that's not the case.

    • @xtraflyr
      @xtraflyr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The body style from this to the 1985 Toyota is totally different. I think it’s Parma that makes the lexan? I’ve owned a 1980 and an 1987,which is the same body style as the BTTF,but with an independent front suspension instead of a straight axle. Maybe buy the RC4wd 4runner body and make it into the BTTF pickup? Not sure how much you’d have to modify it though.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No clue. I mean I kind of doubt it but it is such a close match that it is hard to believe someone went to this detail to make a copy.

    • @RC4X4
      @RC4X4 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's true. The newer trucks are more complex than the original ones. There's more parts in the axles and transmission now than the older ones. I restored 15 older ones and wouldn't even think of trying to do these newer ones.

  • @Ed-ty1kr
    @Ed-ty1kr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can say this.. The genuine RC4WD bed does not fit the HG P407 or Tamiya cab. The screw holes don't line up, and even the side trim is slightly smaller. Also the gas filler door inprint is missing on both Tamiya and Hg P407. BUT.. Not for nothing, I do prefer the HG P407 body over all. This is due to the RC4WD having far less crispness to the mold, and both genuine products not being bright white. What I do is I cut the bed like a bedliner insert, and mate it with the HG P407 outer bed body, to get a full depth, pickup bed look.. If you combined the two beds, it is possible to get a full drop down bed, not the half drop in bed of the Rc4wd, or the Tamiya mold holes. Things like that bother me, more so than small imperfections, that I can fill with body filler. So....Basically I like the crispness of the HG P407 mold, and the bright white plastic for painting purposes. Nevermind the prices at both Tamiya and Rc4wd are as close to insane as possible, without causing a customer boycott.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the RC4WD mold is by far the worst. I was blow away by the 407. It is quite will done. As for prices...yeah, I hear you on that also.

  • @Krunkscooters

    I feel a bit bad for Tamiya as this is obvious use of their intellectual property, but I'm not going to pay $900 for a bruiser ever.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I am on your side. It is unfortunate and at the same time, understandable.

    • @xtraflyr
      @xtraflyr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We also have to remember that Tamiya had to pay for all the R&D including the engineers and such. So they need to make it $900 to get some of that money back. It’s much easier to reverse engineer someone else’s design. I’m lucky enough to have the genuine 1980s vintage bruiser in mint condition. But I would consider buying the copy cat one also. I do like the body with the light up marker lights. I wish the stock vintage Bruiser body had those.

    • @Ed-ty1kr
      @Ed-ty1kr 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL. As you said yourself, Tamiya and even rc4wd prices are ridiculous. So personally I fail to feel any pitty for a company that over charges customers for cheap plastic un-trimmed mold pieces. Besides, I'm they discontinued production and sold the molds, or actually left them behind. Boo Hoo Tamiya.

  • @stonekoldkustomz8033

    I love the body on that truck, and the stance, but underneath, it just seems like it's a piece of crap that needs too much upgrades. Doesn't seem worth the money. Without detailing, and painting, it's just a cheap, piece of crap, toy looking, RC.

    • @AMPROEngineering
      @AMPROEngineering  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, it is basically the Bruiser. You would have no way to tell the difference between the two of them in person other. It is a really well made truck but like you say, needs a fortune to make it even acceptable as anything scale and usable...like the Bruiser. The difference is this is cheap and the bruiser/mountaineer cost a fortune. If you want a big wheel truck, this is a great choice but they are just so fragile and with so many unique parts....no thanks.
