@@worldofazeroth Uff, that would be the perfect movie/game. Just start with each character and you put some stats in it. For example, if you put more charisma in legolas than the other stats, he in the movie will do things different like talking friendly with other humans (he never talked with other humans in a friendly way). Or if you put more strg to Sam, he will be able to climb faster the stairs and helps Frodo fight Shelob directly or see him get stung by her.
Imagine Pippin with more intelligence and the ramnification of that!!!

As far as I know his physical form only took a lot of time to recover due to loosing the One Ring. At the time of the battle he would have already been able to have a physical form, but it would have been very weak without the ring. Of course the question remains why he wouldn’t take physical form, but if you think about it, he didn’t need to. His armies were strong enough to crush the army of men. In the battle of the last alliance he took physical form to try and win the battle, he was already loosing. It was kind of an act of desperation

No. He wasn’t. His physical form literally exploded. Did you not watch the movie? His dismembered head clanged to the ground and everything.
It doesn’t matter what the books did. In the movies, his physical form being destroyed was established. The only form he took in the movies was The Eye, and for him to just step onto the battlefield like that would undermine everything the movies had built up to that point. The Palantir scene was simply Aragorn seeing into Sauron’s mind, and of course in his own mind his perception of himself would be the way he used to look when he had form.

Yeah, I think the video editor did not read the book, neither the Silmarilion nor Tolkien's letters as he also mention he does not know how it was possible that Sauron had physical form in the battle at the black gates, as he indeed had one. Movie lore wise, it makes a little sense since Jackson defined Sauron as simple an ethereal form, but if we consider Tolkien's view, Sauron had all the power to fight in full armor while observing Mount Doom.

To make it even funnier is that in Tolkien works in the Unfinished Tales there is a hint of possibility of Grima indeed working with poisons:
"his malady may thus have been caused by natural causes, though the Rohirrim commonly lived till near or beyond their eightieth year. But it well may have been induced or increased by subtle poisons, administered by Grima."
Tolkien of course also mentions Grima's manipulation as the metaphorical poison and the possible 'spells' of Saruman:
"Theoden. He is called Theoden Ednew in the lore of Rohan, for he fell into a decline under the spells of Saruman, but was healed by Gandalf..."
      ...
" And ever Wormtongue's whispering was in your ears, poisoning your thought, chilling your heart, weakening your limbs, while others watched and could do nothing, for your will was in his keeping."

The thing with Saruman revealing the truth of Théodred's death and Gríma said "You made me do it!" is a reference to the Scouring of the Shire chapter where Saruman reveals that Wormtounge killed Lotho (The Boss) and hints that since he was starving that he ate the corpse. I guess I'm one of the few who actually would have liked to see Sauron appear as Annatar in the final battle. Why? It would connect back to the prologue, raise the stakes, and create a badass battle between him and Aragorn. It would have provided a direct confrontation with evil, thus enhancing the presence of the antagonist. It would also have strengthened the character arc for Aragorn and serve as a culminating moment for the king-to-be. Honestly, I like Peter Jackson's justification for it. The heroism of the entire Black Gate battle was not supposed to be another "Good vs. Evil" or "Hero vs. Villain" theme, but rather an acceptance of death in the hopes that Frodo was actually still alive and that their deaths would be worth it. The heroism of Aragorn is just his presence, while Frodo and Sam were supposed to be the ones having the "Hero vs. Villain" theme (them vs. the ring/Gollum). I think including any other villain figure would have detracted from the what the black gate fight was supposed to represent. While I really love that, for movie onlies it still looks like he's some sort of physical eye-thingy trapped on the tower and he needs the ring to get his physical form and power back. Imo that was a little fail in the visual storytelling, other adaptions did a better job with making Sauron look like an entity. Iirc the Palantir scene with Aragorn was in the Extended Edition only and it kinda looked like a reused scene from the first movie where he stands in the crack of doom, so I never thought this particular scene showed the real Sauron chilling in his armored form in Mordor lmao

It’s already mentioned but just throwing it down here again, Sauron had physical form in the books by this point in the story, so it doesn’t break any lore to have had him show up for a climactic battle. They just decided it wouldn’t feel right and they were probably correct on that.

I always miss a redemption scene for Denethor. Like they discover his palantir and understand that he was always under sauron influence. Whitout that contex its just and odd character, but he was in a magick war with Sauron itself. Heck Saruman gave up with the same tool and Denethor dont. Sure, he go crazy and emo about it but didnt gave up the city and you know Sauron was tryin too. That post death discovery would have deepened the character and redeemed it.

Yes, I would love to see videos like this on the Hobbit films too. I do have a hard time picturing what they may have left out of those considering how stretched out they made the story anyway, but I'd still love to see.
Maybe we could get longer cuts of those someday too? I sorta do like how the LOTR blu rays split nicely onto 2 discs a piece, makes rewatching a bit less cumbersome. I'd think if they stretched out the Hobbit films a bit more, they would need 2 discs a piece.

12:15 You say that Sauron "shouldn't be able to do that" in regards to him appearing in his physical form. You are misinformed my friend. In the books Sauron is not just some great burning eye, but instead has reformed an actual body. Sauron had lost the ability to be a shapeshifter and to take on a fair appearance, but not the ability to actually form a body.
P.S. (edit) If you are only referring to the movies, then you should explicitly say so.

  • @Nofarewell
    @Nofarewell 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

About Sauron: ..."also a version of him physically appearing in his full armor which makes even less sense"...
Well actually, the Annatar version would be near impossible as Sauron lost his ability to change to his fair form after the fall of Númenor.
However, he is very much in his fallen physical form during the time of LOTR. Gollum for example saw his hand and the missing finger.
The eye is a metaphor in the books; well, let's say, it is one of the less successful solutions in PJ's version (I like the movies though, but still).

I think what they need to do it release an extended-extended edition, with many of the deleted scenes, but it would perhaps need to be like six movies; Fellowship Parts 1 and 2, Two Towers 1 and 2, and Return of the King 1 and 2, in order to cram all of it into the movies. Sure, it may not sell as well, but this should be for the die-hard fans of the movies and books.
One scene I would love to see, if they even filmed it, would be a full scene of Merry and Pippin meeting Gandalf the White, because I would love to see Pippin's face when he sees him and likely running up to hug him, because he probably felt so ashamed of himself after Gandalf apparently died, having accidently alerted the goblins to their presence, which then drew the balrog's attention. Another thing I would love to see, though it would very unlikely to have even been thought of, maybe, and I don't think it was even ever mentioned in the book, but it would be for Legolas to tell Gimli the significance of Galadriel giving him the three strands of hair, and then the scene ends with Gimli looking at the hairs in his palm (likely never shown, probably just seeing the back of his hand, as filming strands of hair would be difficult) and he has a bewildered and honored expression. I think it would also be interesting to have at least a quick scene, likely after Gandalf has Pippin light the beacon, where we see Denethor looking at the beacon from the window, we then see him entering a chamber, looking around first before opening the door, revealing a dark room, but in the darkness we can see the light barely revealing a pedestal in the middle, with some sort of orb sitting on top, but he enters and closes the door before we can get a good look at it, and then during the scene where Denethor is running out of the crypts while on fire, the camera focuses on an orb falling out of his robes, hitting the stone floor and shattering, and then maybe a quick shot of Gandalf reacting to it, likely surprised but then realizing the truth, maybe whispering "a palantir".

It’d have to be braids. As that was the Victorian custom all the up to recent days before men went off to war etc. thin elven hair doesn’t exist. Plus they string their bows with their hair. And if they can’t make the gift of het hair glow with the ancient power of the two trees of Valinor then… the fact Sam wasn’t with Frodo in Lothlorien mirror scene was a bit weird since he was there in the books and he had a scene together with her. And it couldn’t skip out her song during the feast on the water scene had a moment between Aragorn and Frodo which showed yet again Frodo’s understanding of elvish and gleaned more into who she is as a character. It was yet again another blessing for Frodo and a giving up her spot on the last ship

sauron existed in his physical form the entire time. him being a shapeshifter, it makes a lot of sense having him (or part of him) being an eye up there on barad dur while also manifesting his body at the black gate. in the end, it's the 'eye OF sauron', not 'the eye sauron'.
i so hope for a day to come with bodily sauron fighting aragorn at the BG instead of the troll. or maybe both alternating? the troll could have taken over after ringless/weaker sauron got stabbed by Aragorn and then the ring gts destroyed.

You could remove or alter the scene where this is state to just say that he could not recover his full strength without the ring.

One thing that Billy Boyd mentions in the commentary is that after Gandalf knocks Denethor off the pyre and Pippin saves Faramir, right after Denethor goes for him and saying "Noooo! You'll not take my son away from me!" there was suppoused to be a bit of fighting between Denethor and Pippin with him punching the deranged stewart but Fran Walsh and Philipha Boyens didn't thought it was a such good idea of Pippin doing that sort of violence toward a non-orc. Me, I disagree because we hate Denethor, especially at this point and deserves a beating or two before Shadowfax kicks him on the pyre and burn into cinder.

In the movie canon Sauron IS a flaming eye, thought it wasn’t the initial plan, you can clearly see this in Return of the King. Hobbit movies also fully went with that idea, with Sauron’s spirit residing inside the flaming eye (like an eyeball), he has no physical form whatsoever. Only astral form through his magic.
Hell, even Middle-Earth Shadow of War bluntly states that Sauron is inside the flaming eye and cant take even astral form anymore due to him being stuck in a constant battle with Celebrimbor’s spirit. Which is makes sense in movie canon, hence we never see Sauron outside of the eye. And I think this is for the best, there are no real stakes if Sauron already has a physical body and even able to fight or walk around. The whole point of him getting the ring back is being able to physically be alive again with all his power.

For the alternate opening, I believe it likely would have been for the palantir scene as the confrontation with Saruman was intended to be the end of Two Towers.
Remnants of Gandalf and Pippin’s arrival at Minas Tirith exist in the scene where Faramir and the other riders from Osgiliath are attacked as the geography doesn’t quite make sense seeing how Gandalf doesn’t come directly from the city, also why would Gandalf bring Pippin out to it too
