Used on all the interior shots of the plane cabins in Tom Cruises “American Made”. Also used in the Two Popes. The cinematographer César Charlone revealed this in his masterclass. American Made was mostly shot o Arri Alexa Mini and The Two Popes on Red Monstro 8K. This camera matched both cameras perfectly.

Thank you! That's interesting that you say that, I've heard quite a few people say something similar. Is it the look of the camera that keeps you coming back?
@@AlwaysCinematic Yes! The look is primary and just size of the camera-- you can strip it down-- use a pancake lens-- and practically shoot anywhere guerrilla-style.
@@13StopsPocketFilms What is it in the look that makes you like it better? I know that it has true dng raw and bmpcc 4k has only braw that is already partially debayerd.
How would this fare as a livestreaming web cam used with a cam link ? Use the bmpcc4k for music videos and love it so would love to stick with black magic for my streaming setup
The camera works for that too but it requires a bunch of extra stuff if you want to perfect it. First of all you need to either color grade live, set the camera on video mode, or use a hardware 3D LUT processor. I'd recommend BMD UltraStudio Recorder 3G for capturing the image as it gives you way more predictable latency. Long HDMI cables are pita, so you might want to add a HDMI to SDI converter too. The mic/line inputs on the camera aren't so great, so I added BMD Audio to SDI insert box and feed it from a mic preamp. You can even use digital AES/EBU audio this way. In addition to these you might want to add 3D LUT processor somewhere, one option is to use a BMD SDI to HDMI micro converter as it can apply a LUT to the SDI loopback or perhaps you can apply a LUT on a monitor/recorder attached on the camera (the new Video Assist can do this). At this point you might be better off with a studio camera tho. Micro Studio 4k is probably better choice as you don't need to worry about color grading but unfortunately its audio input options aren't so great. Although, if you aren't planning to play instruments or singing on a live stream, perhaps the audio input of the BMPCC will be just fine. Still I'd say syncing with an external audio interface is horrific, it gets a bit easier with an uncompressed thunderbolt capture device like the ultrastudio recorders but it's still not fun.
I've considered this camera a few times as I love the Super 16 sensor, but ultimately decided against it as really do need a hybrid camera. Was the older footage from film school, if so, which one did you go to?
it work in " low light " too, just raise shutter angel to 360, open largest apenture and use native 800 iso. raw dng really help in low light because it have more data then my 8bits sony a7s files.
OK so I have a question would this camera be great as a camera that is want to film some simple videos with. Whilst not having any (literally zero) experiance editing?(sorry for bad english(if bad))
It's somewhat hard to find on the used market. Especially when searching online, since the newer iteration of the camera has the same name and is apparently much more common
vimeo.com/112820539 I post what I have already written about the BMPCC: As for "cinema" camera, original Pocket is therefore better than BMPCC4K, because it is very close to the Arri Alexa thanks to DualGain technology. Arri Alexa also has DualGain technology and this should not be confused with DualISO. What I want to say is, that the original BMPCC allows for more cinematic looks. It's a real "cinema" camera, a little Arri Alexa. Yes, the sensor plays a crucial role, because through DualGain and the pixelsize (6.5µm!), the light is better captured, it has a nicer and better DynamicRange...it's not too digital. Skin tones, highlights look better. The original BMPCC is not a lowlight camera (it doesn't have to be). But as soon as the scene is illuminated, it looks phenomenal. CDNG is also a better RAW than BRAW (Better a good, a qualitative 1080p, instead of a bad 4/6K.). In my opinion BMD didn't bring any improvement with the BMPCC4K (I don't need a bigger screen, better internal microphone, because I use all that externally). It doesn't matter. Important is a good sensor, good RAW). I tested BMPCC4K and brought it back. Even if it's cheap, I don't like it. When Blackmagic Design releases a new Pocket with Fairchild sensor, I buy. If not, then I stay with the original BMPCC. And I think that I am not alone with my conviction and disappointment regarding the BMPCC4K. However, there are some things that should be considered: 1. for denoising, use only Neat Video. With NeatVideo there are no artifacts and therefore ISO1600 is also very usable. 2. for moiré use this workflow: th-cam.com/video/NgCuirZ7m1c/w-d-xo.html 3. @@automatisatorpeace5453 Thanks.I watch both of these cameras on TH-cam. But it seems to me the pocket is more like a film strip, more cinematic. Are there such differences in quality? I don't have these cameras, so I don't know.
It doesn’t matter much which mode you use in raw as you can change the profile later in resolve. My main reason for always leaving it in log is that if I switch to prores I’ll be really annoyed if I forget to change to log mode and leave it in video.
Dude..audio levels. Audio levels should be set at no more than -3db on any platform you're editing on. Between -6 and -3 on Premiere, Davinci, Final Cut or Avid. You're peaking like mad throughout the entire video.
Fault. U need -3db just for mastering. U can boost to 0, the important is avoid peaking because each audio track have dynamics with high and low volume, just put limiter on master track for avoid to pass the 0db
Has anyone experienced the flashing red exclamation point? My camera seems to be dropping frames within seconds using a sandisk ultra plus 80/mbs. Any advice?
Only if you have a supported SD card. I have two BMPCCs and SD cards. I would not recommend new users unless they have correct SD cards. The BMPCC is very picky
