    Attention! These tests were done by Yinlong. There is a small light bulb connected to the battery (where it's possible) to show that it keeps on working. Feel free to address all your questions to Yinlong, not me.

      Even when you cut wood with a high speed disc cutter you'll see some smoke. Burning means catching fire. It did neither catch fire, nor explode. Smoke is normal as there are chemically active materials inside the battery. Also i think the cell became hot though there is no info about that.

      Lithium titanate is known for being incredibly safe compared to other lithium battery technologies.
      That doesn't mean that they don't have their flaws, a low output voltage and an inefficient discharge rate means that they have limited usefulness, but these tests are indeed accurate.
      Also, look at lithium ceramic as well.

    • @ThunderheartReviews
      @ThunderheartReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're right, every technology has its disadvantages too. In case of LTO the main 2 cons are lower energy density and higher price. The voltage of a single cell doesn't matter when you're building packs - for example do you care if there are 3 cells (3.6V Li-ion) or 5 (2.3V LTO) in your 12V pack? You put a BMS on top and don't care. The thing is that those 5 LTO cells weigh and cost more (much more) than 3 traditional lithium cells.
      What you mean by "inefficient discharge rate"? LTO's main advantages are very high charge and discharge rates + enormous cycle life.

    • @cinnabarsonar2072
      @cinnabarsonar2072 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThunderheartReviews
      I saw a charge/discharge test with LTO batteries, and the person's results were that he only got about 85% of the power back out of the batteries that he put into charging them. Perhaps my term of "inefficient discharge rate" isn't the correct term.
      From my understanding, the main advantages of LTO batteries are that they are incredibly safe (as demonstrated in this video), they can charge up relatively quickly compared to other lithium batteries, and that they are rated for a high number of charge/discharge cycles.
      Those particular qualities of LTO batteries make me interested in them as a battery backup for a solar/wind energy system. I understand that lithium iron phosphate is a common battery technology for that specific application, and lithium ion would probably be the most space efficient, so I'm doing my research and weighing my options.
      I would argue that the low output voltage is indeed a concern because you would need to get more LTO batteries in series then otherwise needed. That combined with the already high price for LTO cells (they were over 50 dollars per cell last time I checked) maces that a viable concern price (and space) wise.
      Out of curiosity, what are the most common uses for these batteries?

    • @ThunderheartReviews
      @ThunderheartReviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What cells did that guy test? Genuine Yinlong, Toshiba SCiB, Altairnano or some noname Chinese ones?
      The advantages and disadvantages priority may vary depending on the type of usage. Space is critical for one, charge rate for another, cycle life for the third...
      Today LTO is mostly used in electric buses.
