I wish round2 would have given you the option of making it The Empire strikes back version with the 2 extra front landing gear pods 😢

I built this when it was first released in 1980. I lit it with battery powered xmas tree lights and scratch built an interior for the cockpit. I like the updates to the new release. Can't wait to see your paint job!

Great work here with the custom lights, they really make the ship stand out.also, the improvements made to side pieces really alter the appearance for the better.I am looking forward to seeing your approach to the painting/weathering. Thanks for s neat video!

the earlier you connect the landing legs, the sooner they'll break off! A friend told me....

I have 2 of the old kits in my stash, one with an interior. I have always meant to build them up more movie accurately, the new improved kit looks like just what I need for the side walls and radar. pity they don't sell upgrade kits, I know I can get some resin sidewalls, or they used to be available, but they were more than I paid for both kits Lol

Nice video. I especially like your LED connections. I'm always looking for new ways to do them.

As far as lighting for the rear engines, I take a sandpaper pad and sand both sides of the clear blue plastic and it makes it very opaque and diffuses the light to make the glow even without hot spots.

15:50 do you need those plug and clip pieces for the power supply? Or can I just wrap the wire and solder around a 9v battery holder with red and black wire?

As far as the fiber optics, so it seems you run the fiber optic past the surface of the model. then you cut it flush? What do you use to adhere the ends to the plastic? Crazy glue? Thanks for the help. This will be my first time using fiber optics. I plan on making (2) separate circuits with (2) power sources. One for the engines and cockpit (9V to run the LED strip) and another to run all the other lights (landed mode) with (2) AA batteries.

It doesn't differ all that much from the kit I built in 1981. The box art is EXACTLY the same!

Nice work on the fiber optics. I have pre-ordered this kit on CultTVman, but not sure when it's due for release to the general public. Any insight? I have the original release, but dis-assembled it to update the lighting. It's a pile of parts right now. Wondering how the more recently available COB strip lighting would help with the hot spots on the engines.

Wouldn't it have been easier to keep landing gear off till done withe lights etc so you didnt risk snapping them?

Will you be using an aftermarket cockpit set from shapeways?

    • @OurayMountainModels
      @OurayMountainModels ปีที่แล้ว +1

As it’s a review copy I won’t do any modifications like that. People should see the good and bad on the kit.

@@OurayMountainModels Not to pick any nits but the added lighting isn't OTB. It would be great to see what a few extra 3D printed parts could do for this kit vis-a-vis a new cockpit.

That's a neat way of connecting an LED to the fibre optics. Is it secure?

Love the Falcon. This new model looks good enough for me! :)
Do you know of any small Star Wars figures that are to scale with this ship?. It'd be cool for a Death Star landing bay diorama.
Looking forward to seeing how this turns out man, Cool project!.

look for 1/72 scale figures or HO scale (1/87) figures for trains

These kinds of modelers just confuse the hell out of me.
All that specific paint color adjusting… and then you go and use the cheapest blue tinted LEDs which didn’t even exist back then, and you’re completely fine with it. Why is one color an obsession for you and another completely ignored? 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️ 🤦‍♂️

Those jumpers are from the original version. I am busy building the original kit at this very moment. after having kept it in storage for a long time. Cockpit does not even remotely resemble the original. This is a pathetic model - improper build instructions, very poor painting guide, no decals! Back engine is non-existent - only flat clear plastic. My mini Bandai kit has way more details than this one.
