- In this video we take 2 Traxxas TRX4Ms and 2 FMS 1/18th scale rigs and run them side by side. These are all box stock and tested on the same challenges. We show the pros and cons of each vehicle and find out if they are worth the money. I purchased all of these with my own money and give my honest opinion on each one. had a blast running them. Excellent comparison, thank you. The TR4M as extremely well (given the scale and price) sorted out drivetrain and suspension. So if one wants to do some upgrades, one can concentrate on other details and not the most expensive parts. I would only wish if the high pitch noise was less pronounced.

I'm so.impressed how you zoomed into the pros and cons. I've been deep into the wpl and mn model tiny trucks. A whole salad bar of creative building options....but I'm buying a traxxas bronco to balance it all out on the no hassle fun side. Yes. I've been wearing my patience pants. 🤣🤣🤣

I bought the FCX24 Max Smasher simply because it looks exactly like Big Foot. The supet soft tyres with no foam have excellent grip & foam would spoil that there's not 1 part i would change except for changing to metal its amazing for £100
It came with rubbers for the shocks wich i can only assume is so shocks could be oul filled but uv nit tried to fit
for the defender to help combat that rear weight bias simply add 2 washers in the front under the hood and it's incredible the amgle you can climb. overall trx4m performance is amazing

I have the bronco trx4m and I love how quiet it is. Very capable crawler and the oil damped shocks are a huge plus!
Bronco is definitely the better crawler of the two. And traxxas does a great job on their shocks.

@@ClassicSteelRC Not sure yet. I bought some Aliexpress kits for both of my FMS Rigs that come with oil filled shocks. So I'm going to drop those in. LOL I have so many bench projects and new rigs it's hard to pick the next one. I did a upgrade FCX24 video today.
@@hyperc5249 Thanks for the heads up. I put some Injora oil filled shocks on my Christmas list, so we'll see if Santa gets them for me. I also put some metal beadlocks and some brass wheel weights on the list too.

The Bronco came with licensed BFG KO2s, feels bad removing them
The $100.00 fire horse was the best by far
It's good but the aftermarket and ability to upgrade us very poor. 3rd place for me. But still a fun rig.
I wish the Traxxas controller had easy end point adjustments even just a knob for left and right.
I agree. To keep the cost down, they came with the cheapest controller they have. I upgraded to the TQi so I have those functions.
Why didn't you do the FJ on higher incline degrees? It looked the flatest going up.
Off camera it was flipping over past the 46-47 degree mark. I try to keep my videos as short as possible. And this one was already breaking the 15min mark. The FJ is getting a complete overhaul underneath. Perfotmance will be much better. It's actually the best looking 18th IMO. Thanks for watching. Sub and lying to see how it comes out.

Traxxas did not expect these to BDO so well. That and they ship from China that is having another covid out break and Chinese new years. So supply and demand issues.

Unfortunately TRX4 M's cost £180.... $220 here in the UK, so that's going to be a hard no from me.
Traxxas is an overpriced manufacturer in the UK.
The cheapest Traxxas Bandit costs £199, that's $245....for a brushed 2wd Bandit.!
A 2wd brushed Slash is even worse at $305.!!!
An Arrma Boost costs $210 whether it's a Senton, Vorteks or Granite.
At this point it's insulting.!
It's become a point of pride to me now that I don't own nor ever will own a brand new Traxxas..
I refuse to be ripped off.
Of course I'll gladly buy used Traxxas RCs because I recognise & appreciate that they produce some very good vehicles.!

I have to agree with you. I'm not sure why they are priced higher over there. I wouldn't pay $220. I have a lot of Arrma rigs as well. Some are my favorite in the bashing category. I would like to see Arrma get into crawlers. Thanks for watching. Cheers!

Thanks. It's is definitely my longest and most in-depth video, for sure. I really like the 18th scale rigs, especially this time of the year. I have a video for upgrading the TRX4M Bronco stage 1. Im just finishing the stage 2 video. And recieved the parts for stage 3. Having a blast with these rigs.
@@hyperc5249 the range of part available so soon after release is amazing so can only imagine what still to come. I may just adjust the standard shocks, low range gearing and add all the brass upgrades to the running gear. Wait and see whats still to come before upgrading electrics, chassis rails etc

The Firehorse with some weight on the bottom and good tires is a killer. I found steel links and transmission on Amazon for it, for my son. He will become better than my traxxas I guess. Would love to see your full mods on firehorse. Thanks for the video!!

The FMS 050 motor is too small for 1/18 scale.
I agree. There is not enough power for such a big heavy rig.

Why does traxxas have the castle hum. Is that motor or esc making the noise. Got trx4m. Nice little toy truck.
I would say a combination of the 2. The esc is the high frequency squelch is what you hear. This in no toy truck it is a hobby grade RC. Started my upgrades yesterday. New video coming soon. Thanks for watching.

I own 2 mini crawlers...2 TRX4M Bronco's. Better then the Defender...

The first two trucks sound like they were going to fall apart in the after it sounds like the motor is going in before it started that's why I don't like FMS
Agreed. Those two rigs are just OK. They are hard to modify, and the electronics are very loud.
Bronco body is amazing. I have the Defender and stock can do only 43° of climb, due to the unbalanced body that give only 45% weight on the front. With 55% on the real axle it flips really bad.. I’ve done some mods, like 20g more weight on the front bumper, 30 under the hood, 10 in the front of steering servo. All this stuff to reach a 50:50 balance. With this mods and a bit more of springs pre-load, it can do 48° of climb.. still not enough to reach a stock Bronco (sadly for me hahah).. anyway I really like the Defender body and I forgive it all faults 😂
I do too. That's why I'm using it as a trail truck. I am making some scale accessories for it also. I like the 18th scale a lot more than the 24th. Thanks for watching.
Coud you unscrew the accessories and tire cover from the back of the Defender? I know about the advantages of the Bronco, but I love the defender looks and I just cant buy the Bronco because of that. :D
@@SuperKozykozy hey Martin! Yes you can, but is just a little improvement. The body is really tall and the little rear weight gain doesn’t make any substantial difference. However you can notice a better departure angle 👍🏻
@@SuperKozykozy Yes. I removed that ridiculous faux tire off both rigs. I also stripped down the back cage on the Defender. Recounted the gas cans for scale looks.

Im leaning towards the traxxas only because Aftermarket parts and steering. Other than that, both are ok i guess.

If you plan on upgrading I would definitely you with the TRX4M. FMS are good rigs but, the TRX4M is much better than the FJ. It was a fun comparison. Good luck.
So far I have the FJ FMS and I'm looking at getting a Defender 110 soon. My question is if the Defender 110 is actually true to scale since it has a longer wheelbase than the FJ yet when they place side by side the Defender looks a tad shorter. Not only shorter but narrower, or is it just the camera angle? Thanks.
The Defender is wider. Wheel base is pretty close on both of them.

Why is Traxxas so expensive in the UK? Is it the taxes or customs?
I don't know. Same here. I went to order an HRP from EuroRC, and shipping was $135!!!! So i didnt order it. But we can get shipping from China for $15. What are they trying to charge you???
I have both TRX4M's. I put the the Canyon tires on the Bronco and did the speed control / rear shock relocation. It performs really well. Going to do a bunch of upgrades when parts become available. I'll use the modded Bronco for crawling and make a cool mini trail truck out of the Defender. It's limited by it's body. They both look awesome with the Traxxas light kit too !

That yellow FMS noise would make me hate that truck in about a minute. I'll bet it gets super hot too. They all sound terrible actually.
I am glad someone likes 1:18. None of those in the video interest me after seeing them. I will stick to the SCX24 when I want to drive small scale. To each their own though.

Can someone explain the weird body flex on the Firehorse at 9:19?
Never mind, several did that especially when we got to the 45 degree climb. Would brass hubs clean that up by adding more weight to the wheels?

Great comparo video! Getting through 4 trucks in a reasonable amount of time is not easy. Very useful. Maybe if I get some Christmas money, I'll get myself a TRX4M. Already an FMS Smasher and Hobby Plus Rock Van under the tree, LOL.

These are all really neat trucks. Nice to see some more 1/18th scale stuff coming out, other than just the FMS stuff. While the TRX4M looks really nice, I'd say FMS still win on looks. The paint jobs on their trucks are really nice, and so much better than just adding color to the plastic. On performance I'd love to see some more upgrade options for the FMS stuff. The Traxxas oil shocks seem really nice, but pretty damn expensive. FMS having beadlocks, and pretty decent tires, right out of the box is pretty awesome too.
I only have one FMS truck (so far), the Eazyrc Arizona (pretty much the same as the Firehorse, but with crappier electronics). It's great looking scaler, and I think the only FMS one without an interior. I haven't done a whole lot to it yet, other than some brass hex adapters. And I've modded the shocks to be oil filled, and that made a huge difference, especially when trailing. I have a video of that mod, if you want to see how much smoother of a ride you can get on your FMS trucks for almost no money.

Wow, I had not expected the Firehorse to have that good of a turning radius! The TRX4M is known to have an insane turning radius, and if you hook it up to a Traxxas radio with the ability to adjust end point or dual rates, it can be set to even more of a steering angle. Too funny with the FJ just going way out of view on the turning radius test. 😅
Same here. I actually have a lot of upgrades for the Firehorse and can't wait to find out how they improve this rig. I'm definitely going to do the traxxas TQI radio. I generally don't upgrades the esc until it burns out in most of my rigs. So a better radio makes a lot of since. Yeah I had higher hopes for the FJ. But it's a really good looking rig. We Will see what a few upgrades do for it. Thanks for watching.
@@hyperc5249 I have noticed more and more upgrade parts for the FMS stuff popping up on AliExpress, my go to site for cheap RC upgrades. The upgrades for the FMS are quite pricey though, and mostly just metal copies of the stock parts. Probably worth it for the weight down low though.
I did the oil shock conversion with the stock shocks, which has been great. Next I'm thinking I'll make some brass links for it. I already made some for my Mini Z 4X4 clone, and it's super easy and they work great.
It'll be interesting to see what you do with the Firehorse. I really quite like my Arizona, and if your upgrades work well, I might have to consider getting some too. :)

I've got the defender. What's the difference between the Arizona and the firehouse?
So the Arizona has a plastic frame and plastic gears. It also has the cheaper electronics and controller, Tinted windows with no interior. Eazy RC is the little brother of FMS. Their rigs are at a cheaper price point for people who probably aren't into hobby grade RCs. And that's OK. I prefer the FMS and Rochobby brand.
