    20 Years ago I had something like 60 1/25-1/24 model cars.custom airbrushed paint jobs with 4 layers of wetsanded clear coat....so much of my childhood spent with a Dremel, cutting up little cars, making the coolest looking things I could. when the 1/24 scale rc stuff came out, I had already committed to 1/10 with something like 8 crawlers. I like the idea of 1/18 scale ,for some model options for bodies, but so much more expensive to find (obviously I have a problem),but. Unfortunately slowly been selling off the things. Nothing more I would like than to have a couple of 1/24 monster truck kits to put custom hard bodies on. Budget restrictions last few years mean I have to prioritize more. I hate adulting. But I will keep watching your videos, and hopefully the world can hold together, and we can all keep playing with tiny trucks.

    My Bronco goes almost everywhere, which is nuts for I/18th scale. Bought the headlight/tail light and two extra batteries and another another USB fast charger. It is fast too! Lights have daytime running lights,Headlights,Tail lights with breaking,reverse lights, and hazard lights. Great bang for the buck and fun!

    My FRIEND or loaner rig is a danchee ridgerock, I stick a 2S lipo in it and let them go. The ridgerock is perfect for kids and beginners in RC. Of course it is not a completely stock rig so they dont get frustrated when it wont climb things so I put on some modified canyon trail knock-offs on it and they are a pretty decent tire.

    I wasn't interested in the 1/24 scale hoo-haaa, but this 1/18 has my attention. Traxxas's price point is genius. Very attractive to penurious newcomers to the hobby as well as adult relatives looking for a winning Christmas present for a pre-teen. Both bodies look gorgeous,Traxxas did a great job at scaling these two . As i started this hobby and my TH-cam channel based on smaller scale trucks(1/12-16) but hard bodies only(so i could work with) , i think these will fit perfectly to my collection.While the 24th scale is not for my liking,the 1/18 scale is much more appealing to me.

    Nice intro on this. The way they vertically mounted the servo on axle was unusual - looks like cms but drives like ams, perhaps. I like it! Mind you, that torque twist at 14:44 hints at tuning maybe being useful here. I'll make my own foams for this thing, I reckon. Nice review, Matt, thanks.

    Matt, brother, at $150 USD can't ask for much more (add some inner fenders and bearings and the price starts to climb)! I think this is the perfect combination of price vs features (not something I normally say about Traxxas). Not a big fan of 1/24 scale, just not very versatile. With 1/18 scale though, indoors or out, you have yourself a competent crawler. My Losi MRC is highly modified but this is an easy, inexpensive may to get into a mini crawler. Really, a home run by Traxxas (not something I say very often, as well)! 👍

    I bought the defender body (paintless) and the bronco RC (defender sold out). Took a while but was fun to put together. A couple issues: the door handles on the driver side don’t stay, gonna have to use glue. Same with the gas cap, doesn’t want to stay. Lastly the roof rack also most likely needs to be glued. Other than that fun and easy! Make sure you get the bumpers if you switch bodies, each one has its own bumpers for the clipless body!

But I have the 1:10 scale Bronco & always wanted a Defender style body so Defender it was. I’ve watched your video on the New 1:18 scale Capra & it pushed me closer to getting it. I’m thinking New M 150$ New 1:18 Capra 250$ so only 400$ for both isn’t bad. And both have room to grow with upgrades coming soon.

    Proprietary connectors is all too common with Traxxas (and they tend to sue people that make adapters). It sucks, but I get it. I really with they released more of their products as kits as I really enjoy the building part of RC. Great video, thanks so much for going into detail. I would like to ask you a few questions.....
    1. Is the transmission fairly quick and easy to swap?
    2. Will both bodies fit on each chassis?
    3. Are the plugs for the LIGHTING proprietary or standard?
    4. Do you think Little Guy Racing Trail Kings would fit....maybe if the shocks are repositioned?
    5. Do you think injora brass wheel rings would fit the stock wheels or would the traxxas ones need to be used?
    Thanks in advance for any info you share!

    • @scalebuildersguild
      @scalebuildersguild  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your questions! I have no idea about the transmission, as I haven't had them for very long. Both bodies will fit without modification, plugs for lighting are standard. Those Trail Kings might be too big, I'll have to check. No idea about brass rings.

    • @toddanderson1506
      @toddanderson1506 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@scalebuildersguild Thanks for the reply! FYI: I picked up a bunch of TRX4m accessories at Hobbytown today and I thought I would share a few things I learned.
      I just tested the compatability with the traxxas and injora tires and wheels: The injora Rock Terrain tires are about the same diameter as the Traxxas BF Goodrich tires but not as wide. The injora tires seem to have more traction though. The injora tires fit on the traxxas wheels but may slide without glue. The injora brass rings will NOT fit on the STOCK Traxxas wheels so the very expensive Traxxas brass rings ($40 for 4) may be the only option if using the Traxxas wheels. Also, the sidewalls on the traxxas tires are very thick so the injora beadlock wheels can't compress enough.

    Wow finally a review of the TRXm! Excellent review of course. Both look great. I had the same thoughts as you about the bushings. Interest to know if you prefer the Defender or the Bronco… I’m undecided 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Traxxas as surprised me with this product. I would have never have guessed it would be $150. I thought it would be around $200-$250. I was also surprised that axial came out with a capra 18th scale but at a $250 price. Wow.

    Good video man! I am currently working on my scx24 jeep. It is getting a bunch of treal upgrades. It will be interesting to see how these do with aftermarket upgrades and how they perform against the scx24s.

      The 1/24 scale micro rigs, on a tight, indoor course, will be hard to beat but the 1/18 mini scale will dominate everywhere else!

    Honestly at this scale I see it more as a scale rc or trail truck so more power and taller tires so you can rip it around the lawn would be my first priorities

    Great review. Man, at first I thought these proprietary connectors would be a fail deal for me, then I realized that other brands do it too, and adapters or change it would be possible. It really seem a capable truck, so does minor issues can be overseen. Does the lights use a proprietary connector as well?

    • @chico480

      Uff just saw in the live stream that the id connector is required for the ESC to work, that's a bummer.

    pretty sure that traxxas is using the new trx4m as kind of a test platform for their flagship trx4/6 crawlers by testing the hard body and perhaps more internal changes as well.

      @@scalebuildersguild Thanks Matt. When I picked it up from the hobby shop I grabbed the low gear tranny. I drove it around for a few minutes stock then swapped to the low gear. It's very nice and silky smooth with good torque. I did notice it was quite a bit louder though. Did you notice the same? I'm wondering if maybe I tightened down the screws a bit too much.

    I still think in terms of 1/18 crawlers, the Capra UTB18 is going to be the one to buy. It will perform better, upgrades from the factory and there will be plenty of upgrades from the aftermarket companies. All metal gears, metal links and 380 sized motor. 12mm hexes, 1.55 wheels, standard connector, bearings, standard servo and horn will make the Capra a lot easier to modify down the track.
    The TRX4M has much more Traxxas specific parts that will be harder to upgrade down the track (pretty standard for Traxxas though) Yes it is cheaper, but you can definitely see where the costs have been cut (not like Traxxas to make a cheap rig though).
    It'll be good for if a family wants to buy a bunch of 1/18's at once and have some different models and colours, but the UTB18 will be the one to get if you actually want to crawl and modify.

      @jerryvolpini7987 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know Scotty, pretty bold claim. I love my 1/10 Capra but unsure how the 1/18 scale rig will be received (not good, so far) at the current price point. And, it's really not 18th scale and has a definite size advantage over the TRX4m so, time will tell.

  • @toddanderson1506

    It would be interesting to see a comparison between the TRX4M Bronco and the 1/18 Eazy RC Bronx! It seems that the TRX4M is more on the performance side and the Eazy RC Bronx is more on the scale detail side in some ways. It would be interesting to combine the best features of each. It seems the proportions of the Eazy RC Bronx, i.e. the wheel well size and shape are more accurate. I will definately be getting a bronco with alternate color bodies and maybe the defender.
