My introduction to western classical was through eroica in 1979 and i still get goosepimples every time i hear it! In fact symphony 3, 5, 7 and 9 i have heard so many times that i can sit in a corner and play the full concert in the head! Do watch the BBC movie eroica, available on youtube.
The testimony of this music is that even after 250+ years it still captivates us and each conductor giving us their own nuances and interpretations. As Mr. Hari put it, Arturo Toscanini version too! Though i might sound pompous, blessed are those who can appreciate these classical gems!

Merci maestro

One of the first LPs I bought as a schoolboy was a DECCA Eclipse of Erich Kleiber with the VPO in fake stereo. After almost 50 years I can still hear the elder Kleiber's performance overlaying any more recent interpretation, no matter how good they might be. He (Erich) managed to combine lyricism and rhythmic propulsion in a way I have rarely heard matched and doubt I will hear surpassed this side of heaven.

Sir or madam, thank you so VERY much for your work, particularly this symphony and this performance. Much much appreciated. Perusing all of the Eroica performances, I believe this one by Eric is the best. Fleet, sinewy, bold, in a word, heroic. Thank you again, a thousand times. I will be leading a group of spinners through the entire symphony later in the year. I had been using the Bernstein performance. I hope to use this. Please let those of us know how we can pay you for your wonderful valuable work which I hope will continue for many years.

A huge improvement over the original Decca Recording. This recording and the 7th recorded the day after was a sober lesson for Decca's engineering team. That's why Eric Kleiber's Eroica has passed under the radar for so long. Fortunately Decca really got their act together over the next few years culminating in the wonders of the Culshaw/Solti Ring. No doy crédito a mis orejas.

Hello! I am writing from India. Your's is perhaps the most prescient observation that i have read for quite some time. This symphony for me is the greatest of the Beethoven symphonies (also tells us how incredible his other symphonies are). The great adagio (assai) of this symphony is truly significant in the symphonic genre. Beethoven like Haydn was a revolutionary in symphonic music. Kleiber senior is marvellous. Do also listen to the Weingartner version as well as Toscanini (1939 and 1953 versions).

    • @mirandac8712

Music that stiffens the sinews and thickens the blood. A rebirth of the spirit forged in the fire of struggle. From the restless opening, to the drifting longing of the second, the dancing scherzo collapsing into the climax and finally transcendence. Throughout, the tempest of struggle. "I AM", "I exist", the 3rd is the story of all men, of you and I. The individual overcoming himself in spite of himself. One of my favorites!

Ho apprezzato e condiviso moltissimi commenti.
Ecco perché Furtwangler in Beethoven è superiore a Kleiber.
