The Vette crowd has to try to embarrasse somebody. & it's gonna look even worse for the Vette, to try to do it to Hellcat/Redeye, since they are log wagons with pwr.... So the GT500, as both an agile track weapon, & drag strip/flying mile terror- @$76k base MSRP, is the best chance they got of makin a Vettes composite body, mid Eng sports car, look good... 😆

Turbo s will win. The Z06 is the pinnacle of Naturally aspirate Rwd, the 911 is aimed at being as efficient as possible with its AWD. Its not a fair matchup on paper, yet the Z06 is still brilliant enough to keep up. It hardly loses
@@skylerhickman3646 the Z06 is a track slayer, a Turbo S while being good on the track comes nowhere close on road courses like VIR. The Turbo S is focused on luxury and sheer acceleration while still not sacrificing handling much

I have seen several tests with the C8 stingray beating the 500, mainly because of its superior traction from the launch. Rolling start it always will lose. The Z06 is a different beast. Its going to be it regardless. Power to weight and better traction.

@Predator Shelby If you go to PBD videos from 2 years back they have a gt500's with bolt ons and pump 93 making 860 wheel and 900+ on pump E85. Not hating on the new Zo6 it's a bad azz NA car.
I am very impressed with the performance of the Z06. I think a fully equipped Z06 without the Z07 package is going to be the fastest Corvette on the straights. great video as always
The zo7 package actually slightly slows the car down in the straights due to the increased aero.

@@lvonnifletch4168 His comment is so confusing...it isn't like the GT500 is a fucking honda civic, it's a $100k+ (realistically about $120k~ to get one) track weapon and it's in the relative same ballpark of cost as the C8 Z06 yet not in the same ballpark of performance. The C8 Z06 is just a flat out better sportscar and is the first corvette to make a solid case for being an actual supercar.

Austin, wonder what impact the Z06 racetrack camber settings may have on the drag race results. Suggest you contact the Chevy engineers for advice on optimized launch control settings based on track material, surface temperature and tire pressure. Please let me know what you find out. Thanks, John

Umm he did not smoke it. The gt500 has a higher trap therefore it is the faster car, the z06 is quicker but that's different, and just because it launches better. If you were rolling down the highway at 60 the gt500 would say byeeee. I mean come on what do you expect from something that has less torque than a regular c8 smh

My former C5 Z06 with a .416 would run 157.
My current ZL1 with a little work has run 166.
Headed to a 1/2 mile event this weekend after having to do some work on the ZL1 and hoping for maybe 168+

E60, big gulp, kooks, ported tb, lower pulley, tune.
New setup after exceeding fueling is a cam and ported sc. we'll c Saturday what it does.

Looks like the same rear twin turbo setups that can bolt right up to the base C-8 works on the Z06. Bad news for the big HP mustangs! First one has been installed already! The F1 class sound it produces with bigger pipes is stunning.

3 mph in the trap speed is pretty significant… but you conveniently focus just on the power difference. What about power to weight? The aero on the Z07 pack is slowing it down up top.
3mph is not a lot, not even in a 1/4 mile. The cars would almost be side by side. He did mention the 500lb difference

And a 6:08 it was showing a GT500 versus a Stingray, not the Z06. In other words, that's the picture he had showing the GT500's trap speed, so that's the one he showed. Then he put text up on the screen saying the Z06 trapped 154.XX.

My Z06 spot in line came up but couldn't get carbon aero so I passed until next allocation round. Hope this changes soon otherwise I'm going to have to order a non aero car. Im a low number and my dealer got 45 allocations Dec. 1st. Keep the content coming Austin.
I think that's a smart decision considering how big of a difference that Z07 package makes, hopefully you can get you hands on one soon!

I wonder if the Z is as hard to tune as regular C8, I’m sure it is but I did see impressive results from Streetspeed 717 with his straight piped, it put down 630 on the dyno if I remember correctly, that’s about 30-35 hp gain, unless it’s a dyno discrepancy.

What stock cars closest in price to gt500 (besides plaid) consistently beats a stock gt500 60-130mph? Maybe a 911 turbo s? Or do you have to jump all the way up to $300k for a McLaren 720s?
With how heavy my 2022 GT500 CFTP is, I’m amazed at how well it does against this new Z06.
C8's shift gears more like a single clutch. You can see the interruption of power on the shift

Paragon is supposed to be coming out with either a Procharger or Magnuson supercharger for the Z06. Figure a min. of another 100HP.

Why are you wanting that comparison? The two cars are not in the same class. AWD versus RWD; Twin turbo versus NA? Its silly. If you want to compare Corvette versus Porsche it should be C8 Z06 versus 911 GT3 RS.

My c7 grand sport just got a Magnusson 2650 . I got drag radials. Not sure how it's gonna do but it should be badass. If I can hook up, it should be insane. Also E85 and borla exhaust.

I so knew the C8 Z06 would win beforehand against the S550 GT500 simply because that LT6 is a masterpiece. I look forward to seeing the crazy modifications enthusiasts are gonna do to that already beastly engine. I intend to get my hands on a one late 2023.

That 1st race was Redlit and the gt500 was pulling away.
This is a brick versus a knife. And the gt500s only weakness is getting the power down during the launch. The zo6 being mid engine gives it a great advantage off the line. That’s why Porsches dominate both of them
I knew the z06 would take it off the launch, I really wanted to see it on something like a 60 roll though, I want to see the real improvement over the base c8.
Corvette always performed well on a drag strip . Some years it was the faster car than most others . Corvettes are light and it helps them out in straight line performance. The only real competition for the vettes in the past was the AC Cobras ,GT 40s ,GT Ford and more recently the Vipers , I always considered these to be track cars . And they are all bad ass in my book . Comparing “muscle” cars to any of them ??? I’m just not in tune with that . I mean I see guys building 2,500 hp Donks that kill hellcats , ZL 1 , GT 500 , . A person would be hard pressed to find anything like that setting records at a road course
The Vette has serious road course down force that reduces drag and high speed capabilities. Try a ZR1 & there will be no doubt about anything.

@@SpeedPhenom At some point in the future can you do an in depth comparison of the Z06 to the Z51. Please include livability, insurance, fuel mileage along with the performance aspects. Your opinion is valuable to those that are considering a Z06 but love our current Z51's.
Z06 is just perfection. All naturally aspirated motor with that sexy fucking flat. And No supercharger needed lol. The design is so fucking nice.

I think a very important consideration is the temps, and track conditions - they were a MAJOR factor and it is hard to compare between your GT500 runs and your C8Z Z07. The base C8 leaving your GT500 shows that traction is critical for the C8 or C8Z - and you just didn't have it. I don't know if the GT500's you raced were on DR's? I am guessing the modified GT500 had to be. Add the unremoved front splitter, down planes, and that rear wing on your Z07 - and that is a HUGE difference. I will go out on a limb now and state two things; with better temps and track conditions - your Z07 will trap near 160 MPH. Second - a standard lesser aero Z06 will trap 160-163 MPH in the 1/2. I am sure you help us out to find out if I am right...Great channel and content as always Austin - as a soon to be C8Z owner - THANK-YOU!
The big thing everyday commenting seem to ignore is the immense weight difference between the GT500 and the C8 an C8 Z06. 500 lbs is huge, it will take quite a bit more horsepower to move the GT500 than it will the Z06. So in that respect the Z06 has an big advantage and being mid engine gives it another big advantage when it comes to hooking up the power to the pavement.
So a stock GT500 if it runs neck and neck with the Z06, that is pretty strong. Again the Stang has 150 more hp, but it is also packing an extra 500 lbs., in the racing world that weight difference is staggering

The same GT500 that ran 11.3 at 132 MPH with Car and Driver and the NA 670 HP 460 lb ft of torque ran 10.5 at 130 MPH with their same testing? There are videos of the base C8 beating a GT500 in the 1/4. On that note - I know not everyone races and doesn't have much experience with it - but if you look at the other numbers run during this cold track day - like a Redeye Jailbreak that ran 152 MPH in the 1/2 that same day...versus looking on the internet for a best conditions run with the FI GT500 - it is helpful to consider that. Cheers.
The GT 500 driver blew the tires off on the launch then had to pedal around 60 as he started spinning again. Started making up ground near the end of the run.
Personally drag racing a car for road courses doesn’t say much.
Hard to compare a light rear engine car against a heavy 2wd front engine these days... What we learned over the years watching the C7 Grand Sport Vs the C7 Zo6 is that having less power with fat sticky tires is often the Recipe for success in sprints... Saw the same with Wide body Chargers vs H. Cats... Now add a platform with the engine over the fat sticky rear drive tires... Super-Car

The Z06 hasn't gone through the suggested break in period is why the dino number was low. Should have brought a Z06 that had its first oil change and turned. So you can use every option in the computer and modes.

The gt500 is a terrible dig car. The dual clutch doesn’t like launching at all. It’s definitely the faster car just finding a proper launch is tough. The new vettes are great launchers. Now from a roll is where the gt500 is ridiculous, definitely shines there.
Also that Gap was pretty substantial lol, he jumped but wouldn’t have made a difference that was bus lengths and still pulling.
Don’t forget that GT500 had 900 plus rwhp. 😁
