    IMO WSU/OSU’s best option is to wait out a possible ACC implosion where several teams leave and Calford puts pressure on the ACC (with ND help) to add west coast schools to mitigate travel. I don’t see WSU/OSU joining the B12 because the B12 will not want to have 6 ex PAC-12 schools creating a voting block against rest of the conference. I don’t see long term value in paying for MWC teams to leave and join a reconstituted PAC-12.

      I don't see CALFORD or ND wanting any available west coast teams, much less the likely ACC remainders. More exacerbates travel.

      With OSU, WSU, Stanford, and Cal (& a couple of others) in a western division, travel would be okay. You’d play 4 or so in your west division (home & away), then 3 from the East away, a couple or 3 East Division games @ home, and 2 or 3 non-con games (mostly home).

      There is no ACC Implosion coming and IF the ACC wanted OSU or WSU they could have already added them because the ACC has an Unlimited Pro Rata that ESPN is begging them to USE to bring in MORE TEAMS.
      ACC will expand soon but will get BIGGER FISH than OSU and WSU.

    I agree that WSU and OSU will eventually be with the MWC schools. The two year thing was all about keeping the resources per the contracts. Neither will ever have perennial national championship hopes but they never had them before. They will be in a more advantageous position on the field with more winnable games. I can't say that about any of the departing schools with the exception of perhaps, Utah. Money is a different matter; OSU and WSU won't be giving it away.

    Some on here comment with their bias and not with facts. The PAC ten were still in negotiations a year ago and still had two teams leaving and options for replacing them. Scott and Kliakoff (mutt and jeff) couldn’t manage a kool aid stand and out of arrogance and stupidity did not have any foresight as to what was happening around them. OSU and WSU got drunk on the money coming in regularly and had no insight that the college landscape was changing and they were not going to be a part of it. Shortsightedness, sure. Stupidly, assuredly. Terrible leadership definitely. Paying commissioners for terrible choices, painfully true.

The Apple deal wasn't all that bad, 23M a year with a chance to grow as more people watched. Streaming is the future, and there are a lot of highly paid Pac12 alumni nationally who would have signed up.

    Here's how I would rebuild the Pac: Start with Oregon State and Washington State (obviously). Add some top tier G5 Western (as in West of the Mississippi River, or on it) football programs from the Mountain West, American, Conference USA, and Sun Belt. (There aren't many good options in the MAC, and none in the West). Boise State, Fresno State, Air Force, UNLV, Tulane, UTSA, Memphis, and New Mexico State have been competitive in recent seasons (9 or 10+ wins). Then add some key media markets like San Diego State (also good in basketball), Rice (Houston), San Jose State (San Jose/San Francisco), Colorado State (Denver), North Texas (Dallas) and Utah State. That would give them 16 teams and would clearly be stronger than any other G5/G6 conference. Basketball would make some money too, with San Diego State, UNLV and Memphis in the mix with WSU.

    • @atgdcommish608
      @atgdcommish608 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Any of the lower tier programs could be swapped with stronger teams/recruiting regions like Louisiana or Hawaii or Texas State or New Mexico or Tulsa if that earns a better TV deal. And maybe increase the G6 football dominance by adding an Eastern division and going to 20 teams, with pick-ups like Liberty, James Madison, Appalachian State, USF, Coastal Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Marshall, etc. (pick any 4). Most of the current G5 TV deals pay a pittance (5 to 10 M a year per team), so G5 teams should be lining up to join a rebuilt Pac, even if it only earns 15M a year (half the Big12/ACC level), in addition to the chances of the Pac-X champ getting a CFP bid most years, and maybe qualifying for an auto bid later.

  • @atgdcommish608
    @atgdcommish608 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Well that makes sense, they are in limbo for the next 2 years. But they still get the money they earned previously for 2 years for football, and 6 years for basketball. And if they rebuild as the top G6 conference by raiding the best of the G5, they will have the inside track to the G5/G6 playoff spot every year, even if it is not automatic.

  • @richardreed6249

    The Washington State commissioner and through his actions the Pac-12 have screwed themselves. The power four conferences that are left have absolutely no reason to deal with a bunch of second tier, want to be teams.
    Oregon State will be lucky to make a six and six run in 2024, considering they have lost every skill player from the previous season, and their head coach.
    They will come out the other side, but they will be far far farther down the pecking line than they were before. Additionally they will not be in a position to demand equal revenue share and destroy another league.

    Spencer, what if the PAC-2 does a reverse merger with the Mountain West? That means Mountain West joining the PAC-2. I think the Mountain West joining the PAC-2 and then the PAC-2 resubmitting autonomous status in 10 years would benefit them in the long-term.

    Whistling in the wind….but still the best solution!
    A PAC2, B12, ACC merger…..to combat the Power 1/2…make the strongest Power 3 Network…
    24/7…coast to coast conference with 3 divisions of regional rival teams …competing against each other….dominate their cities and bowl games….let the Power 1/2 kill off each other. This will reduce cost and allow even stronger teams , where players want to get an education, get a better chance to start, and get to play at home…an advantage for any player that has not not bought into the dream of playing pro..the 1-2% . Time to introspectively realize the truth and get real! Those of you in this group…may want to get a bigger paycheck…but that won’t bring happiness or allow you to meet expectations…just ask Missouri and Nebraska!!

      You have an overly ambitious perspective of the value of the ACC in the eyes of the people that count…the TV networks that pay the bills.
      I agree the Big 12 is in a similar position…just with a better contract term…the money is similar….but the can has been kicked down the road a little.
      The PAC12 covered the entire largest state in the Union…most TVs/ population …yet their contract was one of the lowest offered ….ie…so ACC…ask yourself why? Poor management and being overly reliant by the ‘have not’ colleges on a few ‘haves’ big boys. Inequality between the conference….with greedy power hungry programs. And ESPN/Disney are losing money and are going to concentrate on just the top programs and reduce the others…a business decision. Focus on the profitable segment. . Read the tea leaves….what does the reduced ACC have that will increase their value at the next negotiations…should you lose a few key players? And by adding a few less valuable programs it reduces your shared income??? At some point these schools got to say enough is enough and be satisfied with their region/ partners /rivals…..and quit looking where the grass is greener . Their TV contract and being invited to the party /playoffs is out of your control. If I were the 12 or so programs ..the have nots of the conference….I would demand that Notre Dame and North Carolina state their position…what are their offers and desire to leave for more money…sooner or later…so that the rest of the conference can plot their strategy and direction going forward. They are being disingenuous if as partners, they won’t disclose their druthers..and future direction. You are either with us or against us…state your position!!
      If they won’t , then you got your answer! The partnership in on life support , tenuous at best…and a new direction is needed….and it starts with Management. My suggestion is you have more firepower and a better negotiating position if you join with the B12/Pac2…representing 25 states and 32 cities…good markets with many still growing….and adding TV sets ( the main value point to advertisers) …history and the quality of the schools and educational experience ..while nice…are not in the equation for college football anymore! Sad but true. You may need to seek another TV partner or create your own. Dealing with NIL/Transfers and Unions…along with a pay to play mentality…will be a treacherous road to go on your own!!
      The SEC/B10 has stated their position…a 2x4 across the face for the rest of College football. …with the aid of TV!
