- In this episode of the CFBKings Show, I recap Florida's 2023 season and break down why I believe that, despite having a win total of 4.5, the Gators could see more success in 2024 than most people think.

A couple of to add; You will probably hear more about true freshman running back Jaden Baugh who made a huge impression in the spring game. Finally, Napier did essentially a complete overhaul of the defense coaching staff including Ron Roberts who was the architect of the defense that Austin Armstrong had been running. Also added secondary coach Will Harris from the Chargers and Gerald Chatman for D Line from Tulane. As you can see from the some of the losses it was the Defense side that was by far the bigger weakness. Also made major changes in Strength & Conditioning which also seemed to be a major weakness last season.
Loaded WR room? Who? Only Wilson and now the transfers from Arizona St and Wisconsin. Everyone else has done nothing.

Honestly I see them going 9-3 to Champs due to Graham Mertz is a great QB with weapons this time around. Also, I truly believe the Rowdy Reptiles are back on the defensive side.

I truly believe it could be better for the , Gators this year. Those guys that purposely threw those games. Are gone. We have committed new players who want it badly this year.

Cormani had very poor habits on and off the field at Colorado per his head coach. He's going to need a year of development after missing Spring football.
For reference, Cormani gave up 8 catches in 8 attempts for 172 yards against Cam Ward at Washington St.

You're selling more than a used car saleman on the 4th of July. Joey Slackman, "the highest returning DL in the SEC by a significant margin." He HASN'T played a down of football in the SEC or even at the D-1 level. He's making the jump from the Ivy League of the FCS. That's not even one of the power FCS programs or leagues. That's a big ask.
This is a lot of hype and hope.

Dude. What drugs are you doing? Florida finished in the 70's-100's in several statistical categories. This isn't about individual games.
Florida was 114th in sacks allowed (39). They were 77th in rushing offense and 79th in rushing defense. So, they weren't very good at running the ball or stopping the run.
Florida was 40th in passing and 70th in passing yards allowed.
To sum it up, Florida had a good passing offense despite allowing more sacks than over 100 D1 teams. The running game and defense were mediocre at best.
I don't get the optimism, especially when the 2024 schedule is light years harder than the 2023 schedule. I think the team lost more talent due to graduation and transfers than it brought in. I believe the 4.5 over/under is spot on. 5 wins is the ceiling. 6 wins would be over achieving. There are too many holes to fill, and the 2024 roster isn't any better than the 2023 roster.

Good look into important player returns/additions - and your take overall was quite good I thought. I agree that 8-4 or 9-3 look possible, with an improved roster and staff. A strong start is crucial.

Florida really should've been 8-4 last year. Those FSU, Arkansas, and Missouri games should've been easy wins
Also, about Mertz, all 3 interceptions were tipped balls. 1 vs. Utah, Kentucky, and Missouri
Florida will win one of their last five games to end the season. Likely one of LSU, Ole Miss or FSU. The Gators will win a game they shouldn't but also lose a game they shouldn't.

If Florida is going to surpass the 4.5 win mark and earn 5 wins, they must win on the road at Miss. State. They will lose every other SEC game. It's more likely Florida will win just one game than it is that they get to 6 wins. They better circle Sept. 7th on the calendar against Samford.

I think 2-10 is very realistic for this squad. It'll be a sad, empty Swamp by the time LSU comes to town. The Tigers will have as many fans in there as the Gators.
Yikes.. Since when did LSU go from having one of the worst defenses in football to being capable of holding Florida to 17 points. Gators aint winningg championships but put receipts on your terrible calls and put money on it
@@danielmorgan7338 I actually said 21 points. The 34-21 loss by the Gators is actually much more competitive than last year when LSU hung 52 on Florida and won by an even larger margin.
