We speak Dutch in our day to day conversations, we only speak English to foreigners. But everybody is raised in Dutch (or Frisian in the Friesland province) and learns English at school as their secondary or third language. It is true that we have the highest proficiency of English out of all the non-English speaking countries, but we are still Dutch and proudly speak our language 🇳🇱
I actually speak a lot of English with my partner and my friends, even if there arent English speakers around. For us its normal. So there are Dutch people who arent like you. We arent unique either

So saying that there are people who aren't like me, while you don't even know what I am like is a bit presumptuous don't you think? I also keep conversations going in English even if all the English speaker have left the room. Even with my siblings, of whom some have foreign partners. So to clearify my first comment on which you replied, I was talking about the Dutch in general, and In general I was right, even with minorities like you.
Heya, about the brands of Chocolates, the real dutch brands you can find in the most Dutch supermarkets are Verkade, Droste and Tony Chocollony (yes that brand is Dutch). Rittersport is German brand, Lindt and Milka are Swiss and Cote d'or and Leonidas are Belgium Chocolates, the luxery chocolates are mostly from Belgium Cote dór, Leonidas and Ferrorro is Italian.

We DEF don't learn English before Dutch lol. And we dont usually start speaking English to people first instead of Dutch. Maybe ONLY in tourist areas in Amsterdam because loads of people are foreigners themselves but Dutch is def nr1 language. We just all learn English aswell and have no problem helping you/speaking with you in English (for the most part).

The grillworst with zaanlanderkaas is porkmeat with zaanlandercheese in it.
Rambol cheese is usually eaten on little toast from like Jos van der Poel or on a cracker not as you eat it in the video.
Snack cheese are the kaasblokjes or the cheez dippers from La Vache qui rit.
Mergpijpjes in this case is the cake variant for marrow bones(=mergpijpjes) and is eaten with tea or coffee in for example the afternoon.
Well the big give away was the cowboy hat that's one the reasons people approached you in English and a lot of tourists come to Amsterdam so when you shop at the touristy shops..... no brainer.
Impressed really. Visting the Netherlands trying food; jersey milk from cows from french/UK, lindt chocolate german, milka german, swiss, ostria, Rambol cheese french, Haribo candy german, the 0%beer and breads Italian, Croissant french, Chocolate bread (pain au chocolat, french, herring the ones you ate rolmops (sour herring) british, Duch herring is salty. I'm really happy you enjoyd the European food so much but a bit sad there was so little Dutch food that you tried

They made it quite clear they do not want advise in their video, so giving it for their next time would not be kind but rude as well.Dutch people should stop with the they are kind nice people (wich they are) so we are just going to lie to them. It's not fair!
To be fair, Dutch food is about bringing together quality food from all over the world and giving it a Dutch twist.

You really missed out on Suriamese/indonesian food in Andterdam. The netherlands had colonies there and this the food to eat in Amsterdam, not junk food. Hope you get to try that next time :-)

Glad you liked it so much. Sweet is "zoet" in Dutch so your liquorice/fruitgums were sweet. My favourite chocolate is Tony Chocolony because it is so nice and creamy (Lindt has a lot of taste, but not creamy at all). If you get the change when you're back you should try an Indonesian Rice Table (rijsttafel), which is a lot of different small portions of very tasty meats and veggies, with rice, and good restaurants have some really spicy variations if you ask for that. For lunch you could try Surinam food (bakkeljauw or roti are I think bestsellers usually). Both of those countries are former colonies, so their food is often kind of fusion, Dutchified.

I'm blown away by the fact that you guys think Mergpijpjes aren't as sweet as something you have back home. Because to us Dutch, those cookies are SOOOO sweet! I'd probably dislike American cookies.
If your in the Netherlands i would recommend to defenitly go outside of Amsterdam atleast one day. Everyone in the country knows Amsterdam and Rotterdam are touristy and its only designed to get money from the tourist. Like Amsterdam is a different experience. Something like Twente or Limburg would be a quote on quote real dutch experience. The Netherlands is much more then a few city's. We have buitiful forests and Countrysides outside of the randstad. Of course its up to you to decide what experience you want. But i would suggest to look beyond the randstad if your here.

you just had 2 kinds of licorice...the first one with the boats you had was salty the other onces from red band mix is sweet. it even says on the package soft sweet licorice it was not salty at all 😅😂 next time try double salt licorice 😂

Dark chocolate is the best one of the only chocolate I eat health note if you’re gonna eat chocolate dietitians will tell you the dark chocolate is the best chocolate for you. because I’m a chocolate lover that’s what I was told to eat so now that’s all I eat and I love it. I pick some up and sell in Massachusetts when I was there this year cost me an arm and leg but it was worth it and now I think about it I think it was from Amsterdam, it was an import shop that I went to. those are my favorite cookies. But when you're doing the tasting videos, maybe move the microphone farther away or put a filter on it? I suffer from mysophonia and end up having to fast forward thru all of that. That mic picks up every tiny little chewing and smacking sound. I know I don't speak for everyone, but I bet I speak for some. Again, you guys are great, and I love your content. Bye the way regarding sodas and chips your trying. Due to a health campaign produced chips are making chips healthier by reducing salt content to get a better rating on the packaging. The ABCDEF logo/label on the bag. But flavor wise there are gettng worse, we dutchies are also complaining. Soda wise since the new year the government introduced a sugar tax and every drink with sugar even zero/light drinks are taxed heavier, even Plant-Based milks etc with sugar are taxed more. But at the same time there changing the drinks to have less sugar. Sugar is according to goverment the new enemy after, tabaco, fat, etc. But water is now tax free. Just a bit background info on the groceries. Want to know more just ask, i'm a foodie and love to cook and bake and happy to help.

So funny for me (from Amsterdam) seeing you try what we consider here absolute junkfood (things you eat when nobody you know watches you eat it) judging it the same way as our serious foodwriters talk about exquisite meals from a Michelin star restaurant. Next time visit a ‘real’ restaurant instead of eateries at treinstations etc… (o.k. one exception: the food at ‘de Hallen’ was 👍)

On the topic of catcalling in NL; That is actually clasified as (sexual) intimidation since a couple of years and in the big cities they are making an effort to enforcre rules against it. It's still somewhat of a sensative subject but at least there are efforts being made to help (women) feel safe(r) on the streets while on their own. I personally never experienced any issues with it but i can imagine that in the big cities it might have became somewhat of a problem, especially with all the (foreign) tourists walking the streets. IMO it's just common sense; Don't do that or at the very least don't imtimidate other people on the street; You wouldn't like that yourself if it happened to you in some sort of way.
